Sophia Anderson The Surf Club Restaurant 123 Fictional Lane Miami, FL 33101

Dear Ms. Anderson,

As a sommelier, my goal is to enrich culinary journeys with the perfect wine, a value The Surf Club Restaurant embodies relentlessly. Reading reviews from food critics extolling your exceptional dining experience appealed to my conviction that your restaurant upholds the values of excellence, in-depth wine knowledge, and hospitality.

The Forge entrusted me with the opportunity to showcase my food and wine pairing prowess. I managed a dynamic menu, advising on pairings that reflected seasonal trends and guests’ preferences. Consequently, we noticed a 27% increase in wine sales.

As head sommelier at Vinya Wine, my role involved creating a diverse wine list featuring handpicked choices from 476 vineyards worldwide. Guests were enthralled by the exquisite union of rare and distinctive vintages, accompanied by enlightening educational sessions that fueled a 41% surge in wine sales.

As a Vinos at the Venetian wine auction’s overseer, I meticulously ensured that all featured wines complied with federal and state regulations. My watchful approach fostered integrity across seven successive events without a single violation.

I’m confident I can enhance the superb atmosphere at The Surf Club Restaurant. I look forward to discussing how my skills fit in your establishment. Thank you for considering my application.

I bring a rich blend of expertise in labor forecasting, food cost analysis, supply chain optimization, and a dash of familiar Tucson charm to the role of restaurant general manager at Red Lobster.

I have honed a practical, hands-on management style over six dynamic years in restaurant leadership, climaxing in my role as a manager at Tucson’s very own The Parish. I utilized savvy tools like FastCasual and advanced labor forecasting to direct a team of 79, slicing overtime by an impressive 24% and maintaining high service quality. As a seasoned professional in food cost analysis, I significantly improved bottom-line results by a staggering 23% at Wildflower. I optimized the supply-demand balance using software such as PeachWorks and Ctuit, minimizing expenses and waste.

My foray into supply chain optimization was transformative at RA Sushi Bar Restaurant, where we witnessed a substantial 19% reduction in stock-out instances. How to prepare an effective restaurant cover letter.

Salesperson pops out of computer screen to depict outselling the competition with sales cover letter

Preparing a restaurant cover letter is like tailoring your service and cooking style to the needs of each customer. However, when applying to jobs, it’s not quite as simple as asking how someone wants their steak done or which sides they’d like.

Instead, review what they outline in the job description to understand each company’s needs and customize your cover letter accordingly. For instance, if you were applying to be a cook at a barbecue restaurant, your ability to operate grills, fryers, and broilers would be essential to emphasize in your cover letter.

Write a tailored greeting and intro for your restaurant cover letter

The first thing to do in your restaurant cover letter is greet the hiring manager by name. You can often find a contact person listed in the restaurant’s job description or on their website. However, if you can’t, simply leading with “Dear [name of restaurant] hiring staff” will work well too.

The next step is to relate to the restaurant’s mission and the essential skills they’re seeking in the first paragraph. For example, someone applying to be a waiter or waitress could explain how they want to use their customer service skills to help the restaurant achieve great tableside service that creates lasting memories for their guests.

The example below doesn’t do a great job since the applicant doesn’t greet anyone by name or relate to the restaurant’s specific mission or goals.

Lacking some details here!

I was pleased to see your job opening for a kitchen supervisor. This looks like a great restaurant to work for, and I would be eager to use my five years of experience to help out in this role.

Instead, aim for an opener like the one below that shows the applicant’s passion for helping The Surf Club Restaurant achieve a great customer experience with in-depth wine knowledge.

A great opener relating to company values!

As a sommelier, I aim to enrich culinary journeys with the perfect wine, a value The Surf Club Restaurant embodies relentlessly. Reading reviews from food critics extolling your exceptional dining experience appealed to my conviction that your restaurant upholds the values of excellence, in-depth wine knowledge, and hospitality.

How to make the body of your restaurant cover letter more impactful

When you get into the body of your restaurant cover letter, it’s time to show how your work experiences and skills will make you successful in the role.

One of the best ways to do so would be to detail metrics-based achievements that will be important to restaurants. For example, you could write about how you helped boost customer satisfaction ratings or used new cooking techniques to get orders prepared 15% faster.

You could also focus on transferable skills if you don’t have much restaurant-related experience. For instance, many jobs in other industries will help you build customer service skills or accurate performance while multitasking.

A great results-based body paragraph!

example of job application letter in a restaurant

Come to a memorable closing of your restaurant cover letter

As you close your restaurant cover letter, making a lasting impression on hiring managers will be important.

A great way to do so is by relating to the restaurant’s mission and the top skills like kitchen sanitization or tableside service that you emphasized earlier.

Then, it’s a good idea to thank the hiring manager for their time and end with a light call to action, such as “I look forward to discussing this restaurant host position with you further.”

The closer below doesn’t do a great job since it doesn’t relate to any key details about the restaurant’s mission or the skills they seek.

Not a strong closer!

Thank you for reviewing my qualifications. I believe my skills will make me a great fit for your restaurant, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Jack Thompson

A better option is the closer below that relates to the meaningful connections and collaborative work experience that Red Lobster wants to achieve.

A closer that’s relevant to the restaurant’s needs!

These experiences have refined my abilities to adapt quickly, work collaboratively, deliver high-quality results on time, and make meaningful connections. Red Lobster stands out as the next chapter in my journey, where I can continue serving fantastic seafood dining experiences for every guest. I am looking forward to detailing how I can contribute to your team. Thank you for considering my application.

You should always submit a cover letter with your resume and application, even if the restaurant lists it as optional. It’ll help you stand out by relating to their mission and the specific customer and food service skills they seek.

Restaurants are fast-paced, which means hiring managers review applications quickly. Therefore, you should keep your cover letter to a single page. It’ll help emphasize key skills, like food handling and kitchen safety, stand out.

The best way to optimize the tone of your restaurant cover letter is to try to match the job description’s tone. For instance, if you’re applying to a family-friendly restaurant with an energetic tone, matching that would show how you fit in with their culture. You could even mention how you’ll bring friendly and positive service with a smile while answering all customer questions.

Restaurant Manager Cover Letter Sample

Eric M. Ronald

Assistant Restaurant Manager

2556 Pinewood Avenue

Lansing, MI 48910

July 1, 2019 Josefine D. Knudsen

Owner & Manager

Knudsen’s & Sons Bar & Grill

3181 Kimberly Way

Grand Rapids, MI 49512

Dear Josefine, I’ve been a patron of Knudsen’s & Sons Bar & Grill several times now, and it’s always the highlight of any trip I take into Grand Rapids. Being a restaurant assistant manager myself over in Lansing, I am excited about the opportunity you’re putting forth to find someone else to manage your restaurant.

I’ve had a lot of experience so far in commercial kitchens. I advanced to the head chef position at Darby’s Restaurant after leaving culinary school, and about 2 years ago, I took the job as assistant manager at Mackenzie’s on Main. During my culinary career thus far, I’m proud to have achieved several notable wins, including:

  • Reduced overhead costs by 15%, including back office stationery and front-of-house decor.
  • Overhauled menu offerings, food vendors, and dining room seating to increase revenue by 33% and accommodate a 10% increase in dining guests.
  • Assisted in earning the “Outstanding Restaurant” James Beard Award for 2017.

I have much respect for great service, delicious food, restaurant optimization, and cost-cutting without lowering standards. On top of that, I am sure I have the managerial skills required to usher the restaurant, menu, and staff into the coming years.

I would be thrilled for the chance to talk about handover plans and also to give you a preliminary plan on how I would go about taking the reins at Knudsen’s & Sons.

P.S.—Would you care to meet for lunch one afternoon? I’d love to take you to my favorite burger joint in Grand Rapids and explain how I brought about that 15% overhead reduction. I’ll be happy to also give you a rundown of my management methods.

That was our take on the ideal cover letter for management jobs at a restaurant.

Now, just continue scrolling down for tasty tips on how to write yours.

However—

Keep in mind that, like mashed potatoes without gravy, an awesome cover letter is useless if it’s not attached to a great restaurant manager resume. Check our guide to check yours before sending it off: Restaurant Manager Resume Sample and Writing Guide

Restaurant Manager Cover Letter Template

Here’s how to make a restaurant general manager cover letter:

1. Use the Proper Format on a Restaurant Manager Cover Letter

  • Stick with the default 1” margin all around your cover letter restaurant manager template.
  • Use 1.00–1.15 line spacing. Don’t double-space just to fill up your cover letter.
  • Choose an appropriate font for your restaurant manager resume cover letter, using 11pt or 12pt font size.
  • Align all your text to the left, including each address (yours and theirs) at the top. Don’t use the justified alignment, as it just looks terrible.

Read more: How to Pick the Best Cover Letter Format

2. Create a Professional Restaurant Manager Cover Letter Header

  • Even at a restaurant, the cover letter is a formal document. So, use formal or business letter format when writing.
  • In the top left corner of your cover letter for restaurant manager jobs, add your full name and mailing address.
  • Leave a space, then add the date of writing, followed by another space.
  • Finally, their info. Include first the owner’s name or the name of the district manager. Next, add their title, then the restaurant’s name, and, lastly, the establishment’s address.

Read more: How to Write an Address on a Cover Letter

3. Start With a Greeting and a Captivating Intro Paragraph

  • In your greeting (salutation), use a standard wording choice, such as “dear.”
  • Address the restaurant owner or district manager by name (never say “dear sir or ma’am,” because they hate universal cover letters like they hate returned dishes).
  • In your opening paragraph, introduce yourself briefly, and state exactly the position (the management of the restaurant) you’re applying for. Don’t make them guess.

Read more: How to Start Cover Letters the Right Way (Examples)

4. Show Them You’re the Right Choice for This Restaurant Manager Job

  • Go back to the internet job posting or newspaper clipping and find the original job requirements. That is the exact recipe for their ideal hire.
  • Detail how you meet and exceed all their expectations.
  • Talk up your restaurant skills and supervisory expertise, and use quantifiable achievements (“increased dinner guests by 15%”) to prove it all.

Don’t make it too lengthy (or too short): How Long is the Perfect Cover Letter?

5. Explain Why You Want to Work for This Particular Restaurant

  • You’ve told them why you are the best manager for their restaurant. Now, show them why this restaurant is the perfect place for you.
  • Write using enthusiasm for this exact restaurant management opportunity.

Don’t think you have enough experience to be their top choice? Consider earning an online certificate , such as this one from Cornell in strategic restaurant revenue management.

6. Make The Restaurant Owner an Offer They Can’t Refuse

  • Bring it all to a close in one or two short sentences.
  • Reiterate your interest in the job, and highlight your value proposition.
  • Whip up a mouthwatering call to action before ending the restaurant manager application letter.

Read more: How to Close Out a Cover Letter (10+ Examples)

7. End the Cover Letter for Restaurant Managers With a Professional Sign-Off

  • In the complimentary closing, use a standard farewell, such as “sincerely.”
  • Leave a line break, then follow it with your full name.
  • If you want to hand sign it (such as if you want to print it out), leave extra spacing between the farewell and your name.
  • To give your cover letter an extra kick, consider adding a postscript below your signature.

Amur Restaurant

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

The service here is excellent, even by American standards. I wanted a Daiquiri and even though it wasn’t in the menu, they went out of their way and prepared it for me. The food is great quality and the prices aren’t disproportionate. I recommend it... to anyone who wishes to try some local cousine while enjoying established drinks. Next time I visit Khabarovsk I’ll definitely come here again. More

As always great! Fast and friendly service, delicious food. I took a cream soup of 3 types of mushrooms - excellent. Roast with porcini mushrooms, fern and venison Sous vide was not particularly impressive. The portion is small, satisfying, but the venison was thinly sliced,... its taste was hard to feel. Overall excellent. More

example of job application letter in a restaurant

The restaurant is located on the first floor of the Amur Hotel. There is a summer terrace decorated with flowers and pumpkins. The room is large and elongated. Tables for two are quite close to each other. When fully loaded, and the restaurant seems to... be popular, it is not very comfortable, and in COVID-19 it is also unsafe. The service is fast, polite. Solyanka with smoked reindeer heart is rich, very thick, meaty, with a pronounced smoked aroma, set off by the aroma of rosemary. Beautifully served in a wooden box with brown paper and toasted lemon. Deer fillet with apple demiglas turned out to be two pieces the size of a matchbox, though tasty and juicy. As a result, I gave 1460 rubles for 2 dishes. Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19: thermometry at the entrance - no, the requirement to maintain social distance - was hardly 1.5 meters, wear a mask, hand sanitizers on the tables, employees in masks. If the review was helpful to you, please like it! More

example of job application letter in a restaurant

For sure a modern restaurant with good food but portions are really minimal. I tried the salmon pelmeni definitely well prepared and good but just 5 pieces no one more. Same result with the Kamchatka salmon. The impression is that they want to replicate the... haute-cuisine in quantity and prices but unfortunately the quality is just good not excellent. More

example of job application letter in a restaurant

It was my second visit to this place. The 1st was in the autumn 2012. And when I v been in this restaraunt first time - I was really happy about this place. But now I m in schok! Staff was very very lasy -... I didn t have menu for 10 minutes. Most of all tables were reserved - but people took a seat after 2,5 hours (after our departure) - I could take a cup of coffee and anything else for this time. But The Administrator said that - no. you can't. We ordered latte with caramel syrup. They brought a cup of cappucino without syrup. Administrator argued with me that this is latte... Staff were so pathetic! They looked at clients like we all must give them money. Prices: carrot juice 0.2 - 7$, latte - 7$. Staff, if you don't like your job, please look for another work! More

We hope you will accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience when you been an in our restaurant. I know it was important for you to have a latte., and the failure of our waiters is a frustration to us all. Thank you for your... More

We had very many dinners in restaurant Amur durig winter 2014-2015 and it was excellent every single time. The interior is classy but still cosy, you can have your privacy if needed, the staff could a little English and the food was excellent. I had... the best meat ever in here. An excellent choice for everyone! More

We went there on a Tuesday night with a couple of friends. After being greeted by a hostess, we were taken to our table. The stuff was attentive and accommodating; however, the drinks were not as good as they should have been at an upscale... restaurant. My Manhattan was not even close to what I normally get in the US. Overall, this is a nice place to visit but I would not say it is the best in town. More

Was staying at the hotel, the restaurant serves a great breakfast so tried the evening meal...excellent. This is the best as well as the highest priced

During our trip to Chabarovsk we had nice dinner In Amur restaurant. Food was very nice, service could be a little better. Wine we had was served without tasting.

It was a business visit. Service was excellent! Best stake I ever tasted in Khabarovsk. Will rate it very high.

I went today for lunch to the Amur Restaurant, as I had been told by friends that it was good but expensive, so I had to try. The atmosphere seems correct, modern but comfortable. Though Russians tend to be somewhat obsessed about interior design in... restaurants, I would not consider this restaurant upscale in terms of that. It is elegant and practical, but for instance having such thick glasses looks old and out of the context of the real hero of the restaurant, the food. Service is made by several young ladies in their 18-20s quite attractive, elegant, and more importantly always moving (which is something not so usual in this town). Today was Orthodox Easter and they had a free service of eggs to be painted, particularly interesting for kids. Then the food, The menu is quite large, but at the same time well arranged so that each page contains between 6 and 10 items. Descriptions are provided both in Russian and English. I would not qualify the mix of cuisines as strange, but it reads to be like a logical evolution of the Russian cuisine, with certain influences from other countries (Thailand, Italy, . The menu contains omelets to be done to the taste of the client with a choice of almost 20 items, specialties from the Far East (king crab, scallops, Olivé salad, etc.), a large and interesting choice of fish and shellfish, meat, original salads, few soups, and a wide range of birds. I found some of the items specially attractive as they are not usual in Khabarovsk, things like octopus, rabbit, mussels, etc. I tried the grilled octopus and it was perfectly cooked. The minestrone soup was tasty, and the broth rich, but I missed the tomato. As dessert I tried the cheesecake following the advice of the waitress. All was excellent. The price is of course at the same level. All the above was 40 EUR, but well spent. I will return for sure. More

There is nothing wrong about this restaurant, starting from decoration, impeccable and very friendly service and, of course, very tasty food. You have different choices - local fusion style seefood dishes, Italian, steaks and Russian. Normally this kind of mix would seem strange. But here... it works. It is not cheap, but would not cost you a fortune. Highly recommended. More

It's definitely the best restaurant in Khabarovsk. We liked everything. English-speaking staff, pleasant atmosphere.

Beautiful atmosphere, great menu, been there twice and want to stay forever! Pike, soups, non-alcoholic drinks, salads are great! Super highly recommended)
