Facilitating advances in medical care

GMRF’s Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is providing patients with access to new and emerging medications in an effort to advance medical care for all.

Our team of specialist research nurses and scientists provide our research partners with first-class conduct, management and coordination of multi-centre national and international clinical research trials. With patient-focussed care at the heart of everything they do.

Information for prospective trial participants

All CTU trials are run under strict conditions. Our Clinical Trial Coordinators ensure that you are treated with the utmost care, while our Data Manager oversees the meticulous data entry for each of your participant visits. In addition, trial monitors from each company involved in our trials visit us regularly and double-check we are following instructions correctly to ensure the trial is run properly.

Participation in any trial is voluntary. All medication, tests and medical care required as part of the trial is provided to you free of charge. Our aim is to provide the ability for people to have access to treatments that would not usually be available and contribute to the research of how well they work. By doing that, we can together improve future health outcomes for all Australians and the wider global community.

All trials run at GMRF have been reviewed by a Human Research Ethics Committee.

Information for the medical community

The CTU team manages all documentation of clinical trials including paper and computer-based case record forms. We also assist with study design, regulatory affairs, database maintenance, and participant recruitment. The CTU takes responsibility for liaising between the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation, the Ramsay Research Governance Unit and ethics committees.

Future plans for the unit include increasing our capacity to assist more clinical researchers with the management of clinical trials.  Our dedicated CTU facilities are based on the campus of Greenslopes Private Hospital and we can support any investigator accredited to consult at the hospital. We have a well-equipped facility and have longstanding relationships and agreements with third-party providers within GPH and surrounding suburbs. Our staff develop successful partnerships with pharmaceutical companies and research organisations - large and small -which is proven through numerous successful sponsor and CRO audits.

We provide our research partners with first-class conduct, management and coordination of multi-centre national and international clinical research trials as evident by our very successful EMEA and FDA audits. Our aim is to deliver clinicians and patients with access to new and emerging medications in an effort to advance medical care for all.

The Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation works to enhance the health and wellbeing of veterans, their families and the broader Australian community through the highest quality research. The research spans from laboratory basic science research in liver disease, respiratory disease and liver cancer to research into the understanding the comorbidities and genetics of PTSD. GMRF also leads the way in psychosocial research in veteran health and wellbeing and clinical trials. GMRF has a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to translating research outcomes into real world treatments and interventions. GMRF is recognised as a leader in its fields of endeavour.

• Associate Professor Rachel Thomson —A/Prof Thomson is an expert on the epidemiology, host susceptibility and treatment of pulmonary nontuberculous mycobacterial infections.
• Associate Professor Victoria Atkinson —A/Prof Atkinson’s is an expert in Melanoma Oncology. She has extensive experience in clinical trials, targeted agents and immunotherapies.
