Ang larawang sanaysay ay isang pagsasalaysay na binubuo ng mga salita at imahe na nagbibigay buhay sa mga pangarap, emosyon, at mga pagmumuni-muni ng manunulat.

Ito ay isang porma ng sining sa pagsusulat na naglalayong maghatid ng masidhing damdamin at mensahe sa mga mambabasa gamit ang malikhaing pagkakalahad.

Sa larawang sanaysay, ang mga salita ay hindi lamang simpleng mga letra at parirala; sila’y nagiging instrumento upang higit na maipahayag ang kaisipan at damdamin ng manunulat.

Isang paglalahad ng isang tahimik na gabi sa bukid, kung saan ang manunulat ay naglalakad sa ilalim ng malamlam na buwan.

Sa pamamagitan ng mga salita, nailarawan ang ganda at katahimikan ng kalikasan, pati na rin ang mga personal na pagnanasa at pangarap ng manunulat.

Ang Kolor ng Pasko

Isang paglalarawan ng makulay at masiglang kapistahan ng Pasko sa Pilipinas.

Binubuo ito ng mga salita at imahe na nagpapakita ng kasiyahan, pagmamahal sa pamilya, at kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng mga tradisyon.

Sa Mata ng Bata

Isang larawang sanaysay na nagpapakita ng karanasan ng isang bata habang naglalaro sa kanyang paboritong pook.

Sa pamamagitan ng malikhaing pagsusuri at paglalahad, ipinapakita nito ang mga bagay na makikita lamang sa mata ng isang bata.

• Imahe : Ang mga imahe ay nagbibigay buhay sa sanaysay. Ito’y maaaring literal na mga larawan o mental na imahinasyon na nagpapakita ng mga detalye at karanasan.
• Emosyon : Mahalaga ang damdamin at emosyon sa larawang sanaysay. Ito’y nagdadagdag ng kalaliman sa kwento at nagpapahayag ng pagkakaugnay ng manunulat sa kanyang mga pagnanasa o pangarap.
• Pag-aangkop : Ang pag-aangkop ng mga salita at imahe ay nagbibigay saysay sa sanaysay. Ito’y nagpapakita ng pagiging detalyado at malikhaing pag-iisip ng manunulat.
• Pagkakabukas-loob : Ang pagiging bukas-loob ng manunulat sa pagpapahayag ng kanyang mga damdamin at karanasan ay nagbibigay-kulay sa larawang sanaysay. Ito’y nagpapakita ng personal na pagkakakilanlan ng manunulat.

Layunin ng Larawang Sanaysay

Sa likod ng bawat larawang sanaysay, may layunin na nais makamtan ang manunulat.

Maaring ito’y magpahayag ng pagmamahal sa kalikasan, magbigay-galang sa kultura at tradisyon, o magbigay-aliw at inspirasyon sa mga mambabasa.

Ang mahalaga, ang layunin ay nagdadala ng kahulugan sa bawat pahina ng larawang sanaysay.

Paglikha ng Larawang Sanaysay

Narito ang mga hakbang sa paglikha ng isang mahusay na larawang sanaysay:

• Pumili ng Tema: Pumili ng temang makakaugnay sa inyong karanasan o damdamin. Ito’y magiging pundasyon ng inyong larawang sanaysay.
• Magbuo ng Balangkas: Organisahin ang mga ideya at karanasan sa isang maayos na balangkas. Dapat itong naglalaman ng simula, gitna, at wakas ng inyong kwento.
• Gamitin ang mga Salita at Imahe: Magamit ang mga salita at imahe upang maging buhay ang inyong larawang sanaysay. Ito’y makakatulong sa mga mambabasa na maisip at maunawaan ang inyong mensahe.
• Magpakatotoo: Huwag matakot na magpakatotoo sa inyong pagsusulat. Ang pagiging bukas-loob sa inyong damdamin at karanasan ay nagbibigay buhay sa inyong larawang sanaysay.
• Rebyuhin at I-edit: Huwag kalimutan na rebyuhin at i-edit ang inyong sanaysay bago ito ilathala o ipamahagi sa iba. Ito’y magbibigay daan upang mapabuti pa ang inyong gawaing panulat.

Paglago ng Larawang Sanaysay

Sa kasalukuyang panahon, patuloy ang paglago ng larawang sanaysay sa Pilipinas.

Dahil sa mga social media platform, mas napapadali ang pagpapakalat ng mga larawang sanaysay sa madla.

Maaaring makita ang mga ito sa mga blog, Facebook, Instagram, at iba pang online na plataporma.

Ang larawang sanaysay ay nagsisilbing daan upang mas mapalapit ang mga manunulat sa kanilang mga mambabasa.

Ito’y isang paraan ng pagpapahayag na mas personal at mas makabuluhan kaysa sa simpleng paglalahad ng mga pangyayari.

PHOTO ESSAY – In this topic, we will now talk about the definition of a photo essay, its following uses and characteristics, and more.

Photo Essay: My Spring 2024 Semester at CDS

Hi there! My name is Isabella Boncser, and I'm currently a sophomore in the six-year Accelerated BS/DPT program in Boston University's Sargent College (2026/2028). In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a passion for photography, and am currently the CDS student event photographer. I love capturing student life within CDS, whether that be taking pictures of students studying in the building on a rainy day, attending 24-hour civic tech hackathon on the 17th floor, or a faculty and staff appreciation event. Over this past semester, I had the honor of working with the CDS communications team, led by Maureen McCarthy , director, and Alessandra Augusto , events & communications manager.

I was asked to highlight some of my best and brightest work from the semester. The following images were captured this spring, and are some of my favorite images. They showcase the versatility of student life within CDS and BU Spark !

BU Spark! hosted a Tech For Change Civic Tech Hackathon , where students spent 24 hours at BU to developed a new project with teamwork and technical skills at the forefront. I had the opportunity to meet students from 19 different schools, all of whom spent (literally) day and night on the 17th floor of the Center for Computing & Data Sciences working together and using their hacking skills to create a difference in the world. Pictured here are two students celebrating after discussing their individual projects and asking for some advice regarding their presentations.

CDS serves as home for a variety of people and their furry friends! This image shows Miss Belle, the beautiful English Setter (who loves birds) who shares office space with her owner, Chris DeVits, CDS Director of Administration.

The Center for Computing & Data Sciences truly has a place for everyone at BU. The main level has become the campus living room, where students can meet to chat over coffee, or catch up on emails on the staircase. On a rainy day, students can find a " cozy corner " and focus on their work in a relaxing environment. This is a glimpse of the "sit steps" - the large staircase with over two dozen conversation spaces that has become popular for students to relax and get some work done between classes.

You may have heard people refer to the Center for Computing & Data Sciences as the "Jenga Building" because of its Jenga-like architecture. The building, which is home to the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences, the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics and Computer Sciences, and the renowned Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computation Science & Engineering, embraces its beautiful yet fun architecture while focusing on community! Next time you are craving a fun study break, join the CDS Events Team for a night of Jenga and try some delicious popcorn!

Driving down Commonwealth Avenue, the building stands out amongst its peers and shines bright along the Boston city skyline. Illuminating the streets during dusk, the building is one of my favorites the photograph. The 17th floor is home to many events hosted by CDS faculty and staff, as well as the general BU community.

The students pictured had been working tirelessly on their TFC Civic Tech Hackathon project. This photo exemplifies teamwork, collaboration, and partnership. Although students were working on their projects for 24 hours on the 17th floor of CDS, they were all smiles for the camera during final presentations!

Yoga at the Top of BU has become a staple for students to come and enjoy a one-hour yoga session. The class is open to all students across BU, and is a great way to take a study break and get your body moving. If you are a zen master, or have never taken a yoga class before, come join us for the next session!

The BU Spark! team gathered for a group picture during the Civic Tech Hackathon which took place on the 17th floor in February. Over the Spring 2024 semester, I've had the pleasure of getting to know the ambassadors from each track, and their passion for their work within the BU community is truly inspiring. BU Spark! hosts numerous events, talks, and community-building programs like Cookie O'clock, town halls, and much more. Visit the BU Spark! space on the second floor to learn more about their involvement on campus!

Computational Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences ( CHASS ) hosted a variety of tutorials ranging from "An Analysis on Emerson's Work" to large language model discussions throughout the Spring 2024 semester. These sessions are a great way to learn about the data science industry and how your skills will be used in the real world. Check out the CHASS video tutorial library on YouTube .

I am heading to Dublin, Ireland to live and study abroad for the Fall 2024 semester! I am so thankful to Maureen McCarthy who gave me the opportunity to work with and celebrate the CDS community. PHOTO ESSAY | Pro-Palestinian Protesters Mark 76th Anniversary of the Nakba

On Saturday, May 11, hundreds gathered in Westlake Park for a rally and march to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Nakba , which refers to the displacement of Palestinian people by Zionist settlers, and later the Israeli government and the Israel Defense Forces, during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. 

Speakers at the local event included representatives from multiple organizations, a Jewish grandmother, and an Indigenous spoken-word poet. As they addressed the crowd, approximately 25 activists began painting a mural on the ground at Westlake Park. Outlined with chalk and painted with nontoxic and water-soluble paint, the activist-artists finished a large mural that read from top to bottom, “Remember – Long Live Palestinian Resistance – Return” with a red poppy painted in the center. Activists marched a few blocks and returned to Westlake. 

“Nakba” translates to “catastrophe” in English. During the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, more than 750,000 Palestinians were forced to uproot their lives, 500 towns and villages were destroyed or renamed by Israeli settlers, and more than 15,000 Palestinians were killed, Palestinian women raped, and hundreds of homes looted. 

Since 1948, Palestinians have been denied the right to travel freely, and for those abroad, the right to return to their homeland. This has led to several of the symbols seen during demonstrations: the watermelon, an artistic response to a ban of colors of the Palestinian flag; and the keffiyeh, a type of traditional Palestinian scarf with black and white patterns of olive leaves, fishing nets, and bold lines for the Silk Road. 

There were no arrests or incidents of violence during the event. The mural has been removed by the City of Seattle.

‘So much death and upset’: the nurses quitting the NHS after Covid – a photo essay

Working as a nurse in the NHS through the Covid pandemic gave Hannah Grace Deller a unique perspective on the hardship faced by her profession. She has photographed several nurses as they decided post-Covid to leave the service

H annah Grace Deller works as a paediatric matron at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington, central London. She is also a trained photographer, and during the Covid crisis she began to photograph the conditions in which she and her nursing colleagues were working. Some of her images were published widely and exhibited at the time, earning praise from Grayson Perry, Martin Parr and others, and inspiring an album by Chris Difford, of Squeeze.

She has now published a book, Working on the Frontline , documenting the experiences of nurses and the reaction of the public during the crisis and since.

Before the pandemic, I had never really taken photographs at work – just a few snaps if someone was leaving to say goodbye, that kind of thing. I had never really looked at my job in that way at all. Work was work, and my camera came out when I left the hospital as my way to relax. It’s like a form of meditation for me.

Then one day at the start of the pandemic, I was responding to a bleep when I saw a cleaner, in full PPE, trapped behind a door, and asked to take his picture . After that I thought, something is beginning here. We didn’t know how long it would last, I thought maybe a month. But, with permission from my colleagues, I thought I would document what was happening. I didn’t bring in a camera, that wouldn’t have been appropriate; I’d just take pictures on my phone and use my real camera outside work to document everything else.

This was around the time that people were clapping for NHS workers, and that was sweet – though most nurses didn’t get out of work before 8pm to hear it. As time went on, I think lots of nurses began to wonder how much that goodwill was worth.

Nurses started protesting about pay and recognition during the pandemic. At one fair pay protest I started chatting with a nurse who said: “I’ve had enough, I’m going”. We’d had a pay offer of 1% and she said: “Surely, after everything, we are worth more than 1%.”

Thousands of nurses protested on 29 July 2020 to call for a pay rise, saying workers had been ‘on their knees’ during the pandemic.

I’ve always had an interest in photographing protests. It’s that spirit that you see in people, regardless of whether I agree with what they are protesting about. But with the nursing protests, it felt a bit different.

I began talking to other nurses on the protests, from all different hospitals, who had had enough. One of the people I spoke to was Camille, who is French but had lived in Britain for ever. With Brexit and then the pandemic, it was like a double insult to her, and she told me she was leaving nursing completely.

Nurse Camille moved to France post-Covid. She said: ‘What with Brexit, Covid and the lack of appreciation in the UK for nurses from the government, I’m done.’ She now runs an Airbnb in France with her wife and son.

We arranged that after taking her picture I would take her uniforms back as she had moved out of London, but when I got to her house, she had decided to burn them; she said it felt really therapeutic. There is a lot of trauma that can be held in clothing. A lot of the stains you just can’t get out of the uniforms, no matter how hot you wash them. As she was turning them she said: “There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears in that fire.”

Nurse Anna left the NHS and moved to New Zealand. She wanted to fold her uniform and bring it back to her workplace to say goodbye.

Nurse Natasha left after the pandemic because of burnout and disappointment around the pay dispute with the government. She decided to travel with her husband. She washed her uniforms and hung them on the line as if for the last time. Natasha used to play her instrument to the Covid patients and sometimes when someone was dying she would play music on the ward.

There was also Mila – she wrote “RIP nursing” on the back of her dress. She now works on Portobello Road, in London, selling jewellery.

Ellie also worked through the pandemic but had had enough; I took a few pictures of her handing her nursing uniform back. She was in her 20s and she said: “I’m just too young to experience this, so much death and upset. I just want to go to Australia and lie on the beach.” There are so many untold stories like this.

There is an image of nurses in which we are expected to be submissive and sweet, never raising our voices, just getting on with the job. We are not supposed to get angry, to speak up. But there is a lot of anger in these photographs.

Nurses throw their uniforms outside No 10 Downing Street to protest against the vaccine mandates in January 2022. ‘Clapped and sacked’ was the mantra; many felt they wanted to make their own decisions around vaccines.

Of course I feel that way too sometimes, but if I’m ever upset, or feel that I want to leave, I’ll often just go round and chat to the patients on the ward. And then I’ll remember, ah, that’s why I’m here.

Photo essay: Annual house walk opens doors of historic homes

The Evanston History Center held its 49th Annual Mother’s Day House Walk on Sunday, allowing residents to learn about and explore five historically and architecturally significant homes in southeast Evanston’s Lakeshore Historic District.

Walkers were guided by thick pamphlets with detailed information on each home’s history that also served as their tickets. The historical info was compiled by Evanston native Kris Hartzell, the center’s director of facilities, visitor services and collections since 2007, who told the RoundTable that putting together the event each year is her “favorite part of this job.”

“I’ve walked by all these houses all my life; To know the history of them is such a joy and an enhancement of your appreciation of them,” Hartzell said. “So I’m always happy to give a voice to the architects, and the families that lived in them and the styles, because stylistically they show how Evanston has evolved over time.”

Participants were allowed to walk through designated parts of each house (sometimes with protective booties over their shoes to prevent tracking in dirt), but interior photography was not allowed. A Reflection on Asian Culture

UConn Health Pharmacist Tiana Tran shares an essay for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Growing up as a Vietnamese American, Vietnamese culture was perpetually ingrained into my home life. While both my sister and I were born in America, our parents made sure to include our culture in our childhoods. We were raised speaking Vietnamese and we spent quality time with our grandparents, which helped to solidify our language skills. We listened to Vietnamese music, played Vietnamese board games, and learned the history of our family. We enjoyed Vietnamese dishes nearly every day and celebrated Vietnamese traditions such as welcoming our departed ancestors home to eat dinner with us as well as colorful Lunar New Year festivities with family. As a result, my culture is very integral to my identity and I am proud of who I am.

Today, my family and I still perpetuate these traditions; just this February, my family got together and celebrated Tết, the Lunar New Year, in our own special way. I feel very grateful that my family and my culture are so present in my life.

A large part of my culture, and most East Asian, Southeast Asian, and South Asian cultures, revolves around community and family. In the spring, we celebrate Tết with our loved ones. We welcome the new year, full of new beginnings and good fortune, with our community. The celebrations are a chance for everyone to become closer and for communities to get together. It’s a chance for us to appreciate our roots, pay respects to our ancestors, and share well wishes for the new year with our loved ones.

With May’s arrival and spring in full bloom, I reflect upon the community I am a part of at UConn Health, and the immense pride I feel for working in and with a health system that truly cares for everyone. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have received that allowed me to contribute to the health care system as a pharmacist. This spring, I reflect on my identity and my culture, and how I am so proud of my heritage because it has made me the person I am today.

This May, I reflect on my roots, how my loved ones, my ancestors, and my culture have led me to where I am now. To everyone who has Asian or Pacific Islander heritage, I am so proud to see us represented at UConn Health, where we work together to cultivate a community of care in our health care system.

And to everyone in general, I invite you to do the same and reflect on your roots, and how they have led you to where you are today. Happy Asian American Heritage Month!
