To write a school bus driver resume, you’ll need to gather your credentials, certifications, and expertise in things like passenger safety, route planning, and vehicle maintenance. Experienced school bus drivers can include information from their past bus-driving jobs. New school bus drivers may need to rely on transferable skills, such as safety management, in previous roles.

Once you have all the information, combine it to create a well-formatted, easy-to-read resume. This guide provides specific advice for each section of your resume as well as some action verbs and relevant skills you may want to include.

1. Write a dynamic profile summarizing your school bus driver qualifications

The profile summary is a short paragraph or bullet list that hints at your accomplishments and invites the reader to dig deeper into your resume. Include relevant facts, such as your tenure as a school bus driver, especially if you have a few years or more of experience.

Use this section to align yourself with the mission and vision of the school system in question. Include your commitment to student safety, for instance, and write in a way that demonstrates an approachable, friendly, but professional demeanor.

Senior-Level Profile Example

Entry-level profile example, 2. add a compelling section featuring your school bus driver experience.

Approach your professional experience section with a formula that combines action verbs, accomplishments, and relevant skills and knowledge into powerful bullet points. While it’s great to mention you’re experienced in transporting children to and from school, think of accomplishments that might differentiate you from other experienced bus drivers.

For example, you might note specifics about your experience in training other drivers or your work in developing the most efficient routes to minimize the time each child has to spend on the bus.

Senior-Level Professional Experience Example

School Bus Driver, Penn Alexander Elementary School ,  Philadelphia, PA   April 2018 to Present

Entry-Level Professional Experience Example

School Bus Driver, Student Transportation of America (STA), Minneapolis, MN   April 2021 to Present

3. Include your school bus driver-related education and certifications

Including your education on a resume supports your viability as a candidate, especially because most employers have some minimum requirements in this regard. Ensuring your education and certifications are easy to spot on your resume increases the chance that it’s sorted into the consideration pile when someone vets applications.

If you have any certifications that may help you stand out as a school bus driver applicant, such as a CPR credential, make sure to list those too.

  • [Degree Name]
  • [School Name], [City, State Abbreviation] | [Graduation Year]
  • High-School Graduate
  • Southwest Senior High, Minneapolis, MN | 2020

Certifications

  • [Certification Name], [Awarding Organization], [Completion Year]
  • Certified Transportation Professional, National Private Truck Council, 2020

4. List your key school bus driver skills and proficiencies

Listing relevant key skills that are in demand for your profession has multiple benefits for your resume. First, it helps increase your chance of getting through applicant tracking systems (ATS). These are automated programs designed to pass through only those resumes that meet minimum relevance scores. So, if a school board wants bus drivers with passenger safety and route scheduling experience, the ATS may not pass through resumes that don’t mention those things.

You can also better capture the hiring manager’s attention when you include relevant key skills. The skills below are common on school bus driver resumes, but you can also mine the employer’s job listing for others.

Key Skills and Proficiencies
Cross-departmental collaboration Driving safety regulations
Passenger well-being Passenger safety
Route mapping Route scheduling
Time management Traffic laws
Vehicle maintenance Verbal communication

How To Pick the Best School Bus Driver Resume Template

Start by selecting a template that looks professional. Some basic requirements include consistent fonts, a lack of unnecessary design details, and plenty of organization that separates the summary, education, skills, and work history sections.

Look for a template that you can easily update and customize, which means thinking about the program you’ll need to work in. Many people prefer templates for Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Consider your own technical and software skills, too. If you don’t normally use word processing programs, a simple template you can just click and type into may be best.

School Bus Driver resume examples & templates

School bus drivers are the backbone of the American school system, providing safe and reliable transportation for students in all grade levels. If you’re looking for a job as a school bus driver, you’re in luck! There’s a growing demand for qualified and reliable drivers across the country. A well-organized resume that highlights your skills and experience can help you land your next great school bus driver position.

Luckily, Resume.io is here to help. With 300+ resume examples for a variety of occupations, we’re an expert resource for job seekers everywhere. Here’s what we’ll cover in this resume guide, along with the corresponding school bus driver resume example:

What does a school bus driver do?

  • How to write a school bus driver resume (tips and tricks)
  • The best format for a school bus driver resume
  • Advice on each section of your resume (summary, work history, education, skills)
  • Professional resume layout and design hints

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for bus drivers (including school bus drivers) to increase by 12% over the coming decade – that’s much faster than average for most jobs!

School bus drivers are responsible for the safe transportation of school-aged children to and from their educational establishments. Unlike city bus drivers, school bus drivers most often make stops at individual houses or pick-up points in neighborhoods and work in urban as well as rural environments.

School bus drivers are responsible for memorizing their routes and noting which children are present on their buses each day. They are also required to bring the bus to the depot at the end of the day or to service points for gas and other maintenance.

How to write a school bus driver resume

The very first step in writing your school bus driver is understanding what sections to include. Your CV should contain the following elements:

  • The resume header
  • The resume summary (aka profile or personal statement)
  • The employment history section
  • The resume skills section
  • The education section

As well as highlighting the driving and safety skills needed for the job, school bus drivers should also aim to come across as friendly and responsible on their resumes. After all, parents are entrusting them to create a safe and positive environment as their children are transported to school.

While most bus driver positions will require similar skill sets, it is still important to read the job description and take note of any particularities of the school system or position. Make sure to customize your resume to the school bus driver job description whenever possible.

Choosing the best resume format for a school bus driver

School bus drivers should generally stick with the reverse chronological resume format. This standard structure is the best choice for professional industries, including education and transportation. This format focuses on the employment history section where you can include your previous relevant positions starting from the most recent and working backward through the past 10 years of experience.

If you are making a career change or just starting out in the workforce, you may consider an alternative resume format, such as the hybrid model which begins with your skills and features a shorter employment history section further down the page. However, this option is not recommended for those with previous bus driver positions to show as it may make a candidate appear inexperienced.

Resume summary example

The resume summary is the first section at the top of the resume meant to attract the hiring manager’s attention and introduce the reasons why you’re a great candidate. These 3-5 sentences should be concise and focus on your most relevant experience and skills relating to the role. 1. Scan the bus driver job description for resume keywords

When applying for a bus driver position, you should tailor your resume to each job opening and bus company. The job listing usually includes a list of desired qualifications and skills for your resume , so make sure to include those resume keywords when describing your previous bus driving experience.

Below is a bus driver job ad with relevant resume keywords highlighted in bold:

An example of a bus driver job description with relevant resume keywords highlighted in bold text

And here’s an example of how to incorporate resume keywords into your resume bullet points :

Operated a 50+ passenger bus while ensuring passenger safety and providing professional customer service.

By including keywords in your work experience section, you show employers that you understand the demands of the job and improve your chances of getting invited for an interview.

Another reason to add keywords to your resume is that it makes it more ATS-friendly , reducing the risk of your application getting automatically rejected before it reaches the hiring manager’s desk.

2. Highlight your bus driver skills

As a bus driver, you’ll need a wide range of hard skills and soft skills to be successful. Besides knowing how to safely operate a bus, you’ll need to be able to think on your feet and know how to handle tricky situations involving everything from traffic accidents to stressed passengers.

A well-rounded skill set will help you stand out from the competition, so bring attention to the skills that’ll make you an asset to the bus company.

Here are some examples of skills to include on your bus driver resume:

  • Knowledge of traffic laws
  • Customer service skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Communication skills
  • Friendliness
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Defensive driving
  • Dependability
  • Pre-trip inspection
  • Responsibility
  • Stress management

3. Write an eye-catching resume objective

As a bus driver, your resume objective should highlight your track record of transporting passengers safely and on time. It’s also important to show employers that you possess the specific skills required for the position you’re applying for.

For example, if the job advertised is for a position in a metropolitan area, talk about your experience driving a bus through crowded city streets. Or, if the company is located in a state that gets heavy snowfall in the winter, mention your experience driving in difficult weather conditions.

Here’s a good example of a bus driver resume objective:

To become a bus driver, you need a commercial driver license (CDL) as well as an endorsement from the DMV. Highlight these in your resume objective to show employers you meet the basic requirements for the job.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Writing a School Bus Driver Resume

In this competitive job market, employers receive an average of 180 applications for each open position. To process these resumes, companies often rely on automated applicant tracking systems, which can sift through resumes and eliminate the least qualified applicants. If your resume is among the few that make it past these bots, it must still impress the recruiter or hiring manager. With so many applications coming in, recruiters typically give each resume only 5 seconds of their attention before deciding whether to discard it. Considering this, it's best to avoid including any distracting information on your application that could cause it to be thrown away. To help make sure your resume stands out, review the list below of what you should not include on your job application.

  • Not including a cover letter. A cover letter is a great way to explain why you are the best candidate for the job and why you want the position.
  • Using too much jargon. Hiring managers do not want to read a resume full of technical terms that they do not understand.
  • Omitting important details. Make sure to include your contact information, educational background, job history, and any relevant skills and experiences.
  • Using a generic template. Take the time to customize your resume to the job you are applying for. This will show the employer that you are serious about the position.
  • Spelling and grammar errors. Always double-check your resume for typos, spelling mistakes, and grammar errors.
  • Focusing too much on duties. Make sure to include accomplishments and successes to show the employer that you are a great candidate.
  • Including personal information. Avoid including any personal information such as age, marital status, or religious beliefs.

Key takeaways for a School Bus Driver resume

  • Highlight your safety record and any awards or certifications you have received as a bus driver.

Just as performing safety checks is essential before driving, preparing before drafting a resume is key. The following suggestions can ensure you are on the right lane of your resume-writing journey:

  • Read the job posting and note down the skills, responsibilities and qualifications required for the role, such as first aid training, conflict resolution and performing routine safety checks. You should note the ones you possess to add them word-for-word on your resume.
  • Check whether you need to update or acquire any license or certification for the job. Have your previous employment details, educational details (i.e., degrees or diplomas) and relevant dates (i.e., hiring and graduation) handy to build accurate and verifiable resume sections.
  • Think back on your career accomplishments you can quantify with numbers, percentages or dollar amounts, for example, the number of passengers you transported or the percentage of delays you reduced.
  • Hiring managers may use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to scan your resume. To make your resume ATS friendly, add keywords and skills from the job advertisement, opt for a clean design and easy-to-read fonts, have correct spelling and grammar, and avoid using clichés like "hard worker."
  • Compare resume examples for your desired role to understand how the final version of your resume should look. These sample resumes offer hypothetical scenarios from which you can draw inspiration to build your resume.

Choosing the right resume format is crucial to building a resume that plays to your best abilities. There are three resume formats, chronological, functional and combination, and they each serve a different type of candidate.

Let’s break down the purpose of each format, so you can choose one that suits your needs:

The chronological format is ideal for experienced candidates with over 10 years of experience that can build an extensive work history section and list multiple accomplishments.

The functional format — also called the skills-based resume — is perfect for career starters and inexperienced candidates that can benefit from focusing on their skills section and downplaying their work history.

The combination format combines features of the functional and chronological formats by equally emphasizing your skills and work history sections. Use this format if you are a midlevel candidate changing industries or applying for a promotion.

Our resume formats guide can help you decide on the perfect format by comparing each format’s pros and cons in detail.

Chronological

Combination

This step-by-step guide will take you through the process of writing each resume section in detail. You'll be able to complete an effective school bus driver resume with the help of our job-specific tips and practical examples.

1. Write an impactful opening statement.

Your opening statement is the first thing employers lay their eyes on, so you should showcase your best skills and qualifications for the job. There are two approaches you can use to write this section: the summary statement or the career objective.

Open with a summary statement to portray yourself as a worthy candidate with skills, qualifications and experience benefiting the employer. Though it's become somewhat outdated, you can get away with a career objective for specific scenarios to express your role aspirations, like these:

  • If you have career gaps
  • For entry-level positions, internships or contract jobs
  • For permanent freelancing

Here's how you can draft a good career objective statement:

Poor example:

“Experienced taxi driver seeking a bus driver role at your school with a passion for driving and helping students with their transport needs.”

Although well written, this objective statement says nothing about the candidate's skills nor explains how their taxi driving skills can benefit them as a bus driver.

Good example:

“Experienced driver with a Commercial Driver License (CDL) seeking school bus driver's role at Northridge High School. Safety-compliant driver familiar with local traffic, road safety measures, school regulations and students’ needs with a defensive driving certificate.”

This objective statement checks all the boxes by including the candidate's skills and qualifications to take on the school bus driver's role.

If you think the summary statement is a better approach for you, try these tips:

  • Add at least one quantifiable achievement, for instance, "ensured a safe transportation of 30 students per day" and "supervised boarding of more than 30 students per shift."
  • Include two or three skills from the job description to ensure ATS and recruiters consider you for the role.
  • Include certifications or licenses that show you're qualified to be a bus driver.

This summary statement example can help you formulate your own:

“Punctual and enthusiastic school bus driver attentive to road rules, school schedules and students' needs. Dedicated professional with mechanical expertise, supervisory skills and proven school bus transportation safety records. Compassionate with students and great at resolving conflicts.”

2. Select and categorize your skills.

The skills section informs recruiters of your numerous abilities to function as a school bus driver. Your resume's skill section should include six to eight professional skills. If you're writing a chronological or a combination resume, you should format your skills section as a simple, bulleted list.

However, in functional resumes, you should list three core skills and elaborate with descriptions of accomplishments that demonstrate your skill mastery.

Here's an example of how you can display skills in the functional format:

Professional Skills

  • Followed scheduled routes to accomplish timely drop-offs and pickups, complying with preset route criteria.
  • Transported an average of 65 passengers two times per day safely along prescribed routes according to tight schedules.
  • Utilized maps, GPS, landmarks and traffic conditions to expertly navigate to and from destinations efficiently.

The candidate provided detailed accomplishments and used numbers to reflect the impact of his achievements.

Because the functional skills section generally lists three skills, you can add a second complementary listed skills section to showcase more skills. However, you must never repeat skills, and to avoid this, you can make sure you have a balanced selection of soft, hard and technical skills.

Soft skills describe how you interact with clients, colleagues and supervisors. They also determine how efficiently you can perform a task. The following soft skills are essential for a school bus driver:

  • Good communicator
  • Keen observation skills
  • Supervision
  • Attention to detail and surroundings
  • Accommodative
  • Conflict dissolver
  • Friendly attitude

Hard skills relate to a specific job or industry since you learned these through education or training. For a bus driver, the following hard skills are a must:

  • Clean driving record
  • Excellent driving skills
  • Vehicle maintenance and safety
  • Knowledge of routes and traffic familiarity
  • Versed with traffic laws and driving regulations
  • Record maintenance
  • Driving license (CDL, s/p endorsement)
  • CPR/ First aid
  • Navigation skills
  • Basic mechanical skills

Technical skills inform that you can use technological tools and resources to execute daily tasks. School bus drivers rely on these technical skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office for record maintenance
  • Bus tracking and routing software literacy, i.e., TrackSchool Bus and SafeBus Driver
  • Functional use of digital communication applications like WhatsApp and WeChat
  • Google maps literacy
  • Working knowledge of smartphones, laptops or tablets.

Find these and even more skills for your school bus driver resume in Hloom's Resume Builder . Design your resume with our builder by using our job-specific content suggestions, professionally-designed templates and tips to enhance your resume's effectiveness.

3. Showcase your work history.

The work history reveals your professional experience and hands-on expertise to perform your desired role efficiently. Your work history section should list your past experiences in reverse-chronological order, meaning you start with your most recent job and work backward.

For each role, include the job title, employer's name, location and employment dates. These details are enough to build a functional resume's work history, but you should also add bullet points describing your accomplishments for chronological and combination resumes.

Here's a comparison of a poorly and well-written work history so you can better understand

Work History

  • Transport students and follow strict schedules.
  • Bus maintenance and safety compliance.
  • Daily report submission and record maintenance.

This poorly written job description fails to provide specific details on the duties they took on. Employers can't determine if you can fulfill their particular needs if you don't offer singular achievements.

  • Transport an average of 60 students safely along prescribed routes adhering to tight schedules.
  • Assess the condition of all the buses while maintaining brakes, wipers, gas levels and cleanliness.
  • Draft and submit reports detailing trips, fuel, mileage, passengers and hours.

This work history entry describes the candidate's accomplishments in detail. It even provides numeric figures to gain more credibility and show employers they can positively impact the role.

You can improve your work history with these tips:

  • Align the work history with the desired role by providing accomplishments that demonstrate you can fulfill the employer's specific needs with this job. Carefully studying the job ad will help you remember relevant accomplishments.
  • Further, communicate your impact on the role by quantifying your accomplishments. For instance, you could say you reduced delays by 21% on the after-school routes.
  • Include a couple of skills in your descriptions to show employers you have a rich skill set. Mentioning which skills you used to achieve specific tasks helps you score higher on ATS.

4. Finish with your education, contact information and custom sections.

To become a school bus driver, you don't need any academic qualification, only a commercial driver's license (CDL) and an S (School Bus) and P (Passenger) endorsement.

If you have completed high school education, GED or even a postsecondary education, you can add these accomplishments to your education section.

Mention the name of your diploma, the institution you attended, its location and graduation dates. If you include your high school diploma, it's unnecessary to have the graduation date.

Certifications, licenses and custom sections

You can customize your resume by adding sections to showcase other information you couldn't fit on the five main resume sections. For a school bus driver

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

CDL is mandatory for all school bus drivers. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issues the class A, B and C licenses based on the vehicle's class.

School Bus Driver Resume Writing Tips

Follow these guidelines when writing your resume and you’re sure to make a strong impression.

1. Develop a Strong Resume Objective

A standout  resume objective  is a simple way for you to ensure your resume gets sent straight to the top of any hiring manager’s stack. Lay out your personal attributes, what qualifications you bring to the table, and how you line up perfectly with the requirements of this position.

An applicant for a school bus driver position will want to focus on a slightly different skill set than other professional driving jobs.

Because your primary duties involve transporting our future generation across town, you’ll want to emphasize your A+ driving and safety record .

Highlight your friendliness and any previous occupations that would demonstrate you have experience being around children in a professional capacity .

Specify your Commercial Driver’s License classification as well as any additional certifications you might possess. Many hiring managers will  help you with training and acquiring a CDL with the S endorsement , which is required by federal law.

Any  first aid or emergency medical training  will also be an invaluable asset when applying.

2. Professional Experience: Emphasize Your Dedication to Safety and Reliability

You’ve more than likely had previous professional driving experience if you’re applying for a position as a school bus driver. So, when drafting your resume, you’ll want to write in  reverse-chronological format  to show how you’ve worked your way up the ranks as a CDL-carrying professional.

When recounting the various driver duties of your past jobs, quantify your achievements. Showcase how you  increased on-time performance  for a city bus route or lay out  how many passengers you’ve transported before.

This gives a potential employer a better understanding of actionable results you produced in your previous positions.

Additionally, the safety and well-being of the communities’ children is your ultimate responsibility as a school bus driver, and hiring managers want applicants that are committed to that fact.

When  writing your resume  and filling out the professional experience section, point out prior knowledge of:

Visual Vehicle Inspections

  • Administer routine vehicle safety inspections  before and after every trip

This is an important first step in any commercial motor vehicle driver’s daily routine;  inspecting defects  with the bus frame,  observing wear and tear  on tires, and  evaluating the operational safety  of the school bus.

Realizing this is a critical component in the transportation of young children will show any hiring manager that you recognize safety is key.

Operating Systems Checklists

  • Check operating systems daily  (brakes, horn, wipers, lights, stop arms, emergency flasher, and door-opening devices)

As with vehicle inspections, this is another crucial aspect of the mass transit field. Before you begin any bus route, you’ll need to run down an operating systems checklist –  inspecting and logging any problems you find  with the basic systems of the school bus.

It’s illegal to operate a commercial motor vehicle without functioning windshield wipers, emergency lights, or…brakes, and it’s also highly unsafe!

Demonstrate that you’re familiar with systems reports  for school buses and let your prospective employer understand that you know what is expected of you.

Emergency Situations Planning

  • Implement emergency/accident plan  (first aid, evacuation, and 911 notification)

Not everything is going to go according to plan during your route. Perhaps a kid slips and scratches up his or her knee while attempting to board the school bus; you’ll need to  know how to administer first aid .

Other days, you might be presented with a real emergency and a hiring manager will want to know if you can  take charge, stay calm, and guarantee the safety  of the kids on your school bus.

3. Licenses, Certificates, and Additional Skills

School Bus Driver qualifications have an extra level of scrutiny attached to them due to the precious cargo they transport on a daily basis.

They must currently possess, at minimum, a  Class B Commercial Driver’s License  and, in order to earn the specialized  S (School) endorsement , they must  already have earned the P (Passenger) endorsement .

In addition to the federal regulations set forth by the  Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ,  every state has its own standards and regulations . Check your local DMV for details on what is required to legally operate a school bus.

You’ll also want to use this section of your resume to  emphasize any certifications  you may have acquired over the years. Certificates that will put you at the top of the class include:

  • CPR Training
  • Defibrillator Training
  • First Aid Administration

In addition to any relevant medical certifications, also highlight any knowledge of  basic bus maintenance or specialized equipment for disabled persons .

This will demonstrate to your employer that you have the potential to solve a mechanical problem in case of a breakdown, as well as increase your availability as a possible school bus driver on routes with children that require an extra level of care and attention.

So, are you ready to begin your career driving that famous yellow bus? Personalize your own resume with our  free resume builder  and pull out all the stops.

In which format should you submit your resume?

How should you list your experience?

  • Present your experience following the reverse-chronological resume format . It showcases your most recent jobs first and can help recruiters attain a quick glance at how your career has progressed.
  • The header is the must-have element for your resume. Apart from your contact details, you could also include your portfolio and a headline, that reflects on your current role or a distinguishable achievement.
  • Select relevant information to the role, that should encompass no more than two pages of your resume.
  • Download your resume in PDF to ensure that its formatting stays intact.

Upload & Check Your Resume

If you happen to have some basic certificates, don't invest too much of your bus driver resume real estate in them. Instead, list them within the skills section or as part of your relevant experience. This way you'd ensure you meet all job requirements while dedicating your certificates to only the most in-demand certification across the industry.

Traditional sections, appreciated by recruiters, for your bus driver resume:

  • Clear and concise header with relevant links and contact details
  • Summary or objective with precise snapshot of our career highlights and why you're a suitable candidate for the bus driver role
  • Experience that goes into the nuts and bolts of your professional qualifications and success
  • Skills section(-s) for more in-depth talent-alignment between job keywords and your own profile
  • Education and certifications sections to further show your commitment for growth in the specific niche

What recruiters want to see on your resume:

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Safe driving record with no traffic violations or accidents.
  • Experience in navigating various route types, such as city traffic, interstate, or rural roads.
  • Customer service skills and ability to manage diverse groups of passengers.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and basic maintenance procedures.

Experts' advice on writing your bus driver resume experience

While the excitement and motivation for writing your bus driver resume was present in the first hour (or so), you now find yourself staring at the blank page.

The resume experience section is the one that allows you to make a memorable impression by matching job requirement with your past jobs and accomplishments.

To help you write this resume section, here are four mistakes you need to avoid:

  • Listing every job you have had so far, including the irrelevant ones. Before that, consider each of your past roles based on relevancy to the role. It may be the case that the job you had 15 years ago may have taught you invaluable skills that are appropriate for the role;
  • Including irrelevant work experience items . Those are past jobs that aren't linked with the role you're applying for (or so they seem). Consider how your past jobs will serve your professional presentation: will they be filling in a gap in your work history, or just taking up space?
  • Focusing on responsibilities instead of accomplishments. Your bus driver resume shouldn't just be telling recruiters what you did in the past - as it's most often the case that candidates have had similar responsibilities. But, rather, the experience section should showcase the success you've attained in each past role, thanks to your unique skill set;
  • Consider listing just your professional experience. Any role you've had in the past - e.g. volunteering, internships, etc. - can make it into your bus driver resume experience section. Make sure to include it alongside numbers and results.

Two more things you need to remember about your resume experience section.

The first are keywords. Or those specific job requirements that are crucial for the role . Ensure you've integrated them across your experience section to get sorted closer to the ideal candidate profile by the Applicant Tracker System (ATS).

The second are action verbs. Each of your experience bullets should start with a strong action verb , followed by your specific skill and your on the job achievements. Follow this formula to hint to recruiters what your unique value as a professional is.

Still with us? In the next section, we will show you how industry-leading professionals have avoided the four most common mistakes, while integrating keywords and action verbs in their experience section.

No relevant experience - what to feature instead

Suppose you're new to the job market or considering a switch in industry or niche. In such cases, it's common to have limited standard professional experience . However, this isn't a cause for concern. You can still craft an impressive bus driver resume by emphasizing other sections, showing why you're a great fit for the role:

  • Emphasize your educational background and extracurricular activities to demonstrate your industry knowledge;
  • Replace the typical experience section with internships or temporary jobs where you've gained relevant skills and expertise;
  • Highlight your unique skill set, encompassing both technological and personal abilities;
  • Showcase transferable skills acquired throughout your life and work experiences so far.

Shining a light on your bus driver hard skills and soft skills

To win recruiters over, you must really have a breadth of skill set presented and supported within your bus driver resume.

On hiring managers' checklists, you'd initially discover hard or technical skills. Those are the technology (and software) that help you perform on the job. Hard skills are easy to quantify via your education, certificates, and on-the-job success.

Another main criterion recruiters are always assessing your bus driver resume on is soft skills. That is your ability to communicate, adapt, and grow in new environments. Soft skills are a bit harder to measure, as they are gained both thanks to your personal and professional experience.

Showcase you have the ideal skill set for the role by:

  • Dedicating both a skills box (for your technical capabilities) and an achievements or strengths section (to detail your personal skills).
  • When listing your skills, be specific about your hard skills (name the precise technology you're able to use) and soft skills (aim to always demonstrate what the outcomes were).
  • Avoid listing overused cliches in the skills section (e.g. Microsoft Office and Communication), unless they're otherwise specified as prominent for the role.
  • Select up to ten skills which should be defined via various sections in your resume skills sidebar (e.g. a technical skills box, industry expertise box with sliders, strengths section with bullets).

Spice up your resume with leading technical and people skills, that'd help you get noticed by recruiters.

Showcase academic background with education and certifications' sections

Listing your education and certifications should be a rudimentary part of your resume writing.

Including your relevant academic background - in the form of your higher education degree and niche-specific certificates - will prove knowledge of the industry.

For your education section:

  • Start by including your degree, followed by start and graduation dates, as well as the institution;
  • You could include relevant coursework, major/minor , or GPA, only if your've just graduated from college or if this information would further support your application;

Bus Driver resume summary or objective? The best choice is based on your experience

If you're wondering about the relevancy of the resume summary or the resume objective to your Bus Driver application - here's the truth.

The summary and objective provide recruiters with your expertise and accomplishments at a glance, within an up-to-five-sentence structure.

The difference is that the:

  • Resume objective is also more focused on emphasizing your career goals. The objective is the perfect fit for (potentially more junior) candidates who'd like to balance their relevant experience with their career goals.
  • Resume summary can provide you with space to also detail the unique value of what it's like to work with you. Bus Driver candidates who have many noteworthy accomplishments start from the get-go with their summary.

Ensure that either type of resume introduction presents your Bus Driver expertise in the best light and aligns it with the job advert.

The more details you can provide with numbers, the more compelling your resume summary or objective will be.

Real-world Bus Driver candidates follow these frameworks in writing their resume summaries and objectives.

Bus driver terminated after caught drinking while taking Long Island students home

By pei-sze cheng • published october 5, 2023 • updated on october 5, 2023 at 10:47 pm.

A school bus driver on Long Island has been fired after district leaders said the operator was drinking behind the wheel while kids were on board.

The bus driver had picked up students Wednesday from Smithtown High School West after dismissal when he was allegedly spotted with booze. An open alcoholic beverage was seen in the driver's cupholder.

"Once aware, the district intervened immediately and bus company staff met the bus and driver at Great Hollow Middle School prior to dismissal," Superintendent Mark Secaur said in a district email.

The driver, not publicly identified, was immediately pulled from the bus and replaced by another operator.

The bus company put out the following statement: "The safety of our student riders remains our number one priority and this is completely unacceptable. The driver has been terminated and we are cooperating with law enforcement."

Police were notified, but not in time to see the driver with the drink on the bus. No arrests have been made, but police officials said they are investigating.

"We will cooperate fully with the bus company and the precinct as they conduct their investigation. I can confirm, regardless of the outcome of the investigation, that the driver will no longer transport any Smithtown student," Secaur added.
