Machine Learning for Engineering and Science Applications: Video Errata For Week 10

1. Naïve Bayes- a. In the video starting 11:16, it was incorrectly stated that the Naïve Bayes approximation assumed that the features are independent of each other or uncorrelated. The correct interpretation is that Naïve Bayes assumes the features to be independent given the class, i.e. they are conditionally independent. b. In the video starting 23:11, Laplace smoothing is described. The quantities m and n appearing in the denominator are the number of possible values of features x1 and x2. 2. MLE Intro: a. In the video starting 3:20, it was incorrectly stated that the square of the error i.e. ε 2 is modelled as Gaussian. The correct statement is that the error, i.e. ε is modelled as a Gaussian.
