What Does Your Perfect Day Look Like?

by Andrea Jordan | 2 comments

What Does Your Perfect Day Look Like

What does your perfect day look like?

You may be surprised but very few people know the answer to this question! I certainly didn’t know when I was first asked to describe my perfect day.

We flounder with the idea of what our perfect day looks like because we’ve not taken the time to dream and really think about how we want our life, and our business, to look.

If you don’t have a clear picture of your perfect day how can you create meaningful goals to move closer to that day?

Grab a pen and paper and describe for me what you’re perfect day looks like.

Start from when you wake up, and move through each hour of the day.

Write down in detail your thoughts and descriptions of what your perfect day looks, feels, sounds and smells like.

You can use the following questions to get you started:

  • How would you spend your day?

2. Who are you with?

3. Where are you?

4. Would you be working, playing or both?

If you’re a visual person find pictures that capture how you see this perfect day or create a vision board on Pinterest .

Of course you might have too many things to fit into only one day. Simply write about those aspects that appeal to you the most.

When you are writing about your perfect day be aware of that little voice in your head (you know the one, “yes that all sounds lovely but HOW are you going to do it?”). We aren’t concerned with the “hows” today so ask that voice to be quiet while you’re completing this exercise.

I first did this exercise in 2013 and this is how my perfect day looked . . .

I wake with a smile on my face. Eyes closed, I lay still as the nights dreams fade to be replaced by a slow bubbling excitement. Today’s the day!     I can contain myself no more and my eyes snap open. My energy carries me up and out of my crisp cotton sheets.     Throwing open the French doors I gaze out on a perfect morning. The warm pink glow of the first rays of light is lapping along the beach. Slipping into my running gear, including my green racer back singlet that makes me feel like an athlete, I head down the hallway. Shoes on, I tug my hair back into a ponytail and step outside to greet the day.     I set off towards the far end of the beach, breathing in the salty air. Along the way I meet some of my friends that I’m catching up with later that day. We talk excitedly about where we’ll go and the excitement gives me extra energy to power home.     I dive into the sea to cool off then have a warm shower. Refreshed I sit down to breakfast in my favourite embroidered silk robe, bought on one of my many overseas adventures.     While drinking my juice and nibbling on fresh fruit I work on the design of the next chapter of my second book.     The hours fly by. Before I know it the next chapter is nearly written and it’s time to meet up with friends for a kayak out to an offshore island. We’ve all bought along our favourite food to have a shared lunch once we get to the island.     Exhilarated, and wetter than we needed to be, we pull our kayaks onto the shore and set up our picnic in the shade. The food was fantastic and the conversation even better!     We are in the middle of planning our annual adventure. Where would we go this year? A tropical paradise like Samoa? A running adventure in Madagascar? We discussed them all and laughed so much we could barely eat.
I arrive home an hour before the sun set. This is my favourite time of the day to practice yoga. As I breathe in the fragrance of the jasmine I feel aglow with gratitude at the many wonders that my life holds.     Relaxed and calm I get ready for tonight’s celebration. It’s the birthday of one of my best friend’s daughters and we are all gathering for an al fresco dinner. I arrive as the thousands of sparkling lights are turned on and the garden is turned into a magical place.     I move among my friends sharing stories and laughter. I give the birthday girl an enormous hug and she takes me for a tour of the garden and tells me stories of where the fairies live.     Much later that night, as I slip between the cool sheets, I think to myself that it has been a most perfect day.

So, what does your perfect day look like?

What are some of the themes that came up for you? Mine would be the sea, fitness, friends, writing. There are definitely some missing elements, photography and animals being two of them, which is why I like to do this exercise each year to see how my perfect day has changed.

Upon arriving at the beach, the smell of the salty sea air greets us. The sound of waves crashing against the shore and the squawking seagulls echo in our ears.

Activities on the Sand

We set up our spot on the warm sand. Kids build sandcastles while adults sunbathe. The beach is a canvas for our creativity.

Fun in the Water

We run towards the cool water, splashing around and playing games. The feeling of the water against our skin is refreshing.

Leaving the Beach

As the sun sets, we pack up, leaving only footprints behind. A day at the beach is always memorable.

250 Words Essay on A Day at the Beach

Introduction.

A day at the beach is a multifaceted experience that engages all the senses. The beach, with its vastness and raw beauty, offers a unique blend of relaxation and adventure, providing an escape from the mundane.

The Arrival

The journey to the beach culminates in the first glimpse of the expansive ocean, a sight that invariably evokes a sense of awe. The salty air, the sound of waves crashing against the shore, and the sight of the horizon where the sky meets the sea, all contribute to a heightened sense of anticipation.

The Experience

Once settled, the day unfolds in a series of sensory experiences. The feel of warm sand underfoot, the taste of salt on the lips, and the enveloping heat of the sun form a medley of sensations. The beach is a theatre of life, with people engaging in various activities, from building sandcastles and playing beach volleyball to surfing and sunbathing.

Exploring the Depths

For the adventurous, the ocean beckons. Swimming in the sea or exploring its depths through snorkeling or scuba diving offers a glimpse into an underwater world teeming with life and color. It’s a humbling experience that underscores the vastness and complexity of nature.

As the day ends, the setting sun paints the sky in hues of orange and red. This spectacle of nature provides a fitting end to a day at the beach. It’s a reminder of the transient nature of our experiences and the enduring beauty of the world around us. A day at the beach, thus, is not just a day spent, but a day lived.

500 Words Essay on A Day at the Beach

The beach, a place where the land meets the sea, is a unique space of transition and transformation. Its dynamic nature, constant ebb and flow, and the juxtaposition of permanence and transience, make it an intriguing subject of contemplation. A day at the beach is not just about sandcastles and sunbathing; it’s a profound experience that engages all the senses and invites introspection.

The first step onto the beach is a sensory overload. The salty scent of the sea air, the sound of waves crashing against the shore, the warmth of the sun on your skin, and the gritty feel of sand beneath your feet all combine to create a symphony of sensations. The sight of the vast, seemingly infinite ocean ahead is humbling, reminding us of our place in the grand scheme of things. The beach is a theatre where nature stages its most spectacular performances.

The Interplay of Elements

Throughout the day, the beach reveals the interplay of the elements. The sun, the sand, the sea, and the sky, each plays its part in this grand spectacle. The sun’s journey across the sky paints the canvas of the day, from the soft pastel hues of dawn to the fiery drama of sunset. The sand, shaped and reshaped by the waves and the wind, is a testament to the impermanence of things. The sea, with its rhythmic dance of the tides, is a symbol of life’s ebb and flow. The sky, with its ever-changing patterns of clouds, mirrors the fleeting nature of our thoughts and emotions.

The Human Connection

The beach is also a social space, a meeting point for people from all walks of life. It’s a place where children’s laughter mingles with the murmurs of lovers, where the solitude of a lone walker intersects with the camaraderie of a group of friends. The beach is a melting pot of stories, each wave bringing a new tale to the shore. It’s a place where boundaries blur, and we reconnect with our shared humanity.

Reflection and Departure

As the day winds down, the beach becomes a place of reflection. The setting sun casts long shadows, and the sounds of the day give way to the quiet whispers of the evening. It’s a time to look back at the day’s experiences, to contemplate the lessons learned, and to carry those insights back into our daily lives. The beach, in its simplicity, offers a mirror to our complex selves, a reminder of our essential interconnectedness with nature and each other.

In conclusion, a day at the beach is more than a leisurely escape; it’s a journey of discovery and introspection. It’s a stage where nature’s drama unfolds, a canvas where our stories intersect, and a mirror that reflects our shared humanity. It’s a place that invites us to slow down, to observe, to feel, to connect, and to contemplate. A day at the beach is a celebration of life in all its beautiful complexity.

Introduction

Description of a beach.

Summer is the perfect time for individuals to visit and enjoy the marvelous scenes along the coast. In addition, the feelings and experiences felt on the beach during the summer are always fantastic. Several sceneries and experiences are seen and felt at the beach during summer. These include; the plantation along the beach and inside the sea, the animals, the waters, and the people found on the beach.

The beach appears to be alive and joyful with the presence of the natural vegetation. There are evergreen plantations both along and inside the beach. Images of buoyant seaweeds can be seen along the shore. Palms trees are seen to stand tall along the beach, dancing to the tune of the breeze emanating from the waters of the sea.

The sea grapes and the sea oats are also observed gathered in clusters in the sea next to the shore. Their colored flowers are splendid and brighten at the shining of the summer sun. The sweet scent of the flower grapes sends a signal to the world about the hope brought by nature.

The atmosphere is fully intensified by the aroma produced by the buoyant sea flowers. In addition, from afar, images of leafless trees are also observed. The perfect combination of the vegetation along the beach and inside the sea displays the beauty of nature to the highest peak.

It mesmerizes the eyes to gaze at the beautiful creatures that hover all over the beach and on the deep-sea waters. There are sights of beautiful birds that fly all over the dry shoreland and over the seawaters. Their colored feathers brightened the sea with a marvelous appearance at their illumination by the sun’s rays.

There are varieties of birds that are in the vicinity. For instance, there are pelicans and seagulls. Pelicans are seen hovering over the sand, singing sweet melodies that make the atmosphere at the beach vibrant. The seagulls are also observed to be flying over the seawater in small groups. Some of the birds are gathered in groups spreading the wings that cloaked a soft shadow on the gentle water ripples.

Next to the shore, there are sea turtles that seem to enjoy the summer heat from the sun. Their eggs are also seen to be exposed on the sand by the children that play on the shoreline. Bees are seen flying from one flower to another over the sea grapes. The humming of the bees as they gather nectar from the sea flowers attracts insect-eating birds.

Large crowds are observed all over the seashore. These people come to enjoy themselves on the beach at this period of the year. In the sea, people of all ages and sexes are seen swimming and playing with the cool seawater. The scorching heat from the summer sun is felt on the forehead of all individuals.

This makes the people chill themselves in the cool waters of the sea. The children are seen playing beach ball on the shoreline. Some children are also seen pelt each other with sand on the shoreline. Besides, young boys are observed climbing tall palm trees to gather fruits.

What is more, several activities take place along and inside the shoreline. Vendors are seen carrying ice creams and soft drinks all over the shoreline. Views of homes, hotels, and other buildings that run along the peak of the beach are also seen. On the sand where children play, pieces of shells are scattered.

In most cases, children collect the shells for fun. In the shades built along the shoreline, people are seen reading books, journals, and magazines. Some are seen idling on the sand, while few adults are observed playing football.

However, there is a disgusting scene of plastic bags, cigarette butts, food wrappers, and beer bottles along the beach. These items seem to pollute the entire shoreline and the seawater.

Anglers are also observed far into the sea casting large nets into the waters to have a bulk catch of their prey. Some of the anglers are also observed perching on the edge of the shore carrying sticks in their hands. Their faces displayed the anticipation that they had for their prey.

The deep waters of the sea produce a marvelous view for anyone who gazes at the sea. The water is seen to be slowly running low on the shore. Small waves are also observed crashing on the shoreline. The surface of the sea is seen to appear blue in color.

However, some portions are also seen to have the spectrum that results from the sun’s refracted rays. Deep inside the sea, there are high waves that lift boats up and down mightily. The shimmering waves of the sea that are clear and blue mirror the rays of the hot sun. The refreshing breeze that emanates from the seawater is enjoyable.

In conclusion, the beach has a perfect view and activities that are delightful to experience during the summer. It is a place that everyone would love to be at all times.

How To Write A Descriptive Essay: A Step-By-Step Guide

How to write descriptive essay step by step

Table of Contents

Search for perfection in writing.

Writing is still the primary mode of teaching all kinds of subjects and disciplines to students in schools and colleges. Teachers rely on this medium to explain complex concepts and ideas to impressionable pupils in their lectures. Later, writing is used to gauge the level and depth of understanding of what and how much students have learned and retained.

The quest for improving writing, both language, and expression, is visible in essay writing. Since it is about connecting readers with a subject through different literary devices, it requires a level of finesses and expertise to use pertinent words, phrases, and structures for better impact. In this blog, we will take a comprehensive look at descriptive writing, from planning and writing the first draft, to finalizing and completing the task.

What Is A Descriptive Essay?

In a nutshell, a descriptive essay is a descriptive account of a subject of a person, a thing, or a place. Potentially, anything can be the subject of a descriptive essay, as long as it has the elements of both apparent and hidden traits or characteristics.

Writers rely on figurative language and sensory details to connect the dots for the readers. There is no way we can downplay the power of solid description because many authors have created fictional worlds and people, solely based on the description.

Although it has room for subjective experiences and impressions, the structure of a descriptive essay is rigid with three distinct sections. These are the introduction, body, and conclusion. We will revisit them later in the relevant sections.

Comparison Between A Description & A Descriptive Essay

Many students make the mistake of mixing a description with a descriptive essay. In reality, they are quite different from each other. A description can be a sentence or a paragraph, laser-focused on the subject to compare and contrast its features with other well-known subjects to sketch a riveting picture. On the other hand, a descriptive essay is a comprehensive account of the subject. This includes an opening to set the stage and put forward the thesis statement, the main body to cover the theme and expand on all the elements, and a satisfying conclusion to tie all the loose ends.

In other words, a description cannot have a theme or dedicated sections to prove a point, while a descriptive essay juxtaposes different sections for added effect.

Common Subjects For A Descriptive Essay

Narrative essays often need a grand theme or central point to base the narrative on, but this is not the case with  a descriptive essay . Anything that can be perceived through the five senses of human beings can become a subject for a descriptive essay.

Based on these revelations, here are some of the classes from which subjects can be derived:

  • Describing a person with a certain character(s)
  • Painting a picture of an object
  • Creating a riveting account of a place
  • Reliving or imagining a novel experience
  • Shedding light on the mechanics of an emotion

Writing A Descriptive Essay

Before we move on to the brass tacks of writing a descriptive essay, let us take a look at two of its most common types.

  • Personal or impressionistic descriptive essay relies heavily on a writer’s personal experience or subjective approach toward the subject. It can be vague or less vivid with even contradictory or ironic details in place. This type of descriptive writing can be surrounding an experience or an emotion, such as swimming in the sea for the first time or paragliding around Grand Canyons.
  • A formal or objective description covers the argumentative or concrete details of the subject. It has a rigid structure with vivid details and relies more on the empirical truth than the subjective experience or angle of the author. This approach is put to work when the subject does not require subjective details and readers are more interested in knowing the ultimate reality.

Now that the categories of major descriptive essays are out of the way, let us go through the steps involved in writing a descriptive essay.

Researching & Outlining

Even when the subject matter of the intended descriptive essay is impressionistic and personal, it takes some research and compilation of information before getting started. At least, students need to come up with a suitable title for the topic to provide a unified heading for the essay. When the necessary research is done, it is best to outline the whole essay, from start to finish, so that writers have a clear direction and the conclusion of the whole journey in sight. Many times, students start with enthusiasm but hit a wall because of poor planning or no research, to begin with. To write a good descriptive essay, the first step will always be to research and create a comprehensive outline.

Writing Major Sections

There are three major sections in a descriptive essay. The first one is the introduction that kickstarts the whole thing. It should start with an enticing hook to get readers invested in the essay. A hook can be any provocative thing that can catch the readers off guard. The introduction is often closed with a thesis statement. After the introduction, the main body of the essay comes into play. It has the bulk of the essay in terms of elements and word count. Writers can play the best when they balance all the elements of the descriptive essay, such as sensory details, vivid imagery, and figurative language. In the end, the closing should tie all the loose ends together by summarizing the main premise of the essay.

Proofreading & Editing

There is no way you can overstate the importance of proofreading and editing in a descriptive essay writing process. Experts even say that great writing is good proofing and editing. This is natural because initial drafts are written with little to no oversight for errors and inconsistencies. The rationale, back then, is to get it all on paper. In the proofreading and editing phase, writers need to approach the manuscript from a different angle. They should adopt the readers’ persona to check what is working and what is not. The best way to do so is by dividing the process of editing into different steps. This will ensure that no mistakes or slip-ups remain in the text when you move on to finalizing the draft.

Finalizing The Draft

After proofing and editing the earlier manuscript, students will have something better than a half-baked draft. In this step, the focus is on finding the contextual flaws and working on them. To do that, it is necessary to recall the purpose of descriptive writing, which is to connect the readers with the subject. Again, the readers’ persona will come fore to rescue writers from dead passages. They need to make sure that every example is true to the source and that sensory details are working accordingly. The three major sections are well-defined but complement one another for the added effect. In the end, writers should see to it that the title, the thesis statement, and the content of the write-up are aligned together.

The Ultimate Checklist

No matter how well we cover all the bases for the writing of a great descriptive essay, some crucial details are bound to be lost or forgotten in the process of writing and editing. In these situations, it pays to have a checklist that can help writers revisit and check the essentials of the write-up accordingly.

Here is a comprehensive checklist that will take care of all the necessary angles:

  • Provision of context in the introduction
  • Readability of the essay
  • A direct relation between thesis statement and content
  • Use of literary devices such as figurative language and sensory details
  • A comprehensive conclusion
  • Laser-focused sections and paragraphs
  • No grammatical and punctuation errors!

After writing the essay, the writer should go through this list and check items off of it to ensure everything worthwhile is covered in the draft.

What is the format of a descriptive essay?

A descriptive essay follows the standard format of the essay, despite its subjective and impressionistic inclinations. The format is based on three major sections.

  • An introduction or opening to start the essay with a hook and set the stage before putting down the thesis statement
  • The main body covers the bulk of the essay, including the manifestation of the theme, figurative language, and sensory details
  • A satisfying closing or conclusion to summarize the main points before signing off

How can I start a descriptive essay with better impact?

Writers employ “hooks” to lure readers in and made them invested enough to read on. This could be one or multiple literary devices for a better impact. The most common types of hooks include asking a direct question, starting with a quote, or making a bold statement that can catch the readers off guard.

What are the major elements of a descriptive essay?

Just like the building blocks of an edifice, certain elements are necessary to compose a well-rounded and balanced descriptive essay. Here are the major elements that you must keep in mind:

  • A focused title represents one thing or aspect
  • Figurative language
  • Sensory details
  • Three well-defined sections
  • The intent is to educate or entertain readers

How can vivid details add to the descriptive essay?

In a descriptive essay, the rationale behind weaving the whole narrative is to show the readers what the subject is all about. Since readers may not have first-hand information or appreciation of the topic, it is necessary to provide vivid details and make the subject come alive on the paper for them.

What is an example of a descriptive sentence?

There are two types of sentences. One is the basic sentence that has no description but only necessary information. The other type is a descriptive sentence that borrows elements from figurative language and relies on sensory details to show the “real” thing. Saying the day was hot is only a basic sentence, but describing it as “the day when the gates of hell were opened” is a descriptive sentence.

What is the best way to write a descriptive paragraph?

A descriptive paragraph is different from a descriptive essay because it is laser-focused on the subject and only mentions brass tacks. The best way to write a descriptive paragraph is to set the stage with the opening sentence and then jump right into the description. In the end, the last sentence should hold the water for the depth and potency of the subject.

Summing It All Up

Writing a descriptive task is not an easy task. Many elements need to be balanced and require expertise to amplify their effects. It can be said that writing a descriptive essay is easy but writing a good descriptive essay that checks all the boxes and connects the subject with the readers is a tough nut to crack. School and college students often have limited experience and tools to put the subject on display.

In this spirit, we have designed this guide that will help the students understand the nature of a descriptive essay, its distinguishing characteristics, as well as the steps involved in writing a great descriptive essay. In the end, we have topped it off with a checklist to better remember and understand things.

A Hot Summer Day Essay

Hot summer days can be tiresome and exhausting due to the scorching heat and the dehydration it causes but it's also during this time that students amd their families get to enjoy their summer vacations without having to worry about school work or bed time. A hot summer day can be turned around with a couple of cold beverages, good food and great company. Here are a few sample essays on ‘A Hot Summer Day’.

100 Words Essay on a Hot Summer Day

200 words essay on a hot summer day, 500 words essay on a hot summer day.

A Hot Summer Day Essay

When summer first arrives, mornings are pleasant and more refreshing, but as the day goes on, the heat of the sun increases until it is felt throughout the entire day. The severity of the weather is also felt by trees and plants, since their leaves appear dull and their flowers fade swiftly. As the day progresses, the temperature rises, making this the most difficult part of the day—especially for those who perform field work. People prefer to stay inside their homes throughout the day, leaving the streets, markets, and other places looking vacant. Both animals and people living outside seek cover under trees and big buildings on a hot day.

Even though summer is the hottest season of the year, it can also be the most interesting and fun since it gives children some time off school and they can go swimming and pursue hobby classes. It is also a time when they can relish some of their favourite foods like ice creams and mangoes, go swimming, eat ice cream and their favourite fruits, etc. People also escape to hill stations for much-needed breaks from the scorching heat of the sun and return only after the weather improves.

Children usually find summers to be pleasant despite the heat as they enjoy their summer vacation from school and get more time to play outside with their friends without having to worry about homework or waking up early. People enjoy swimming, eating summertime fruits, and sipping cold beverages on hot summer days. Children often enjoy a hot summer day with seasonal fruits like mangoes, kiwis, and pineapple. Not only do these foods cool the body, but they also lift up one's mood. Ice cream and cold drinks are also very popular on a hot summer day. As night falls, people come out to enjoy themselves in lush green parks, gardens and shopping centres.

Summer is the hottest season of the year, with longer, warmer days and shorter nights. Many people prefer to stay indoors during the day during summers because of the scorching heat, and like to be active in the early morning or in the late afternoon after the sun has set. People usually use light cotton clothing in hot weather to minimise the heat effect and stay cool. In order to prevent dehydration and sun stroke, we should drink more water and eat more fruits. This is also the time when schools are closed and children can take summer vacations to visit other places such as hill stations and beaches.

Protecting ourselves from extreme heat

Hot weather can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, and, in extreme situations, heat stroke. Globally, hot days are becoming hotter and more frequent, whereas cold days are becoming less frequent. Drought can be made worse by heat, and wildfires can be sparked by hot, dry weather. High daytime temperatures are detrimental to plant growth, and certain crops need cool nights. Extremely hot days can be managed by:-

developing heat-preparedness strategies, which may include actions like opening cooling facilities during times of extreme heat and establishing workplace heat stress regulations

putting up cool, green roofs and cool pavement can also lessen the impact of the urban heat island

planting more trees to create shade and evapotranspiration to cool the air

Keep your living area cool. When it is dark and the temperature outside has dropped, open the windows that were closed throughout the day.

Eat and drink cold things, stay away from hot and alcoholic beverages, and take a chilly shower or splash cool water on your skin or clothing.

Even if you don't feel thirsty, make sure to drink lots of water.

During this season, many people often face sweating and dehydration as well and that is when surprise rains are sometimes a good relief from a hot summer day.

How i spent a Hot Summer Day?

I remember spending one such hot summer day with my family during summer holidays. The sun was at its highest point and the heat was almost unbearable. My family and I decided to make a plan to escape the scorching heat and uplift everyone’s mood—we made plans to go swimming late in the evening and then go for a movie after dinner. The thought of cold water and an air-conditioned theatre excited everyone. We reached the community pool around 5pm and everyone dived in after changing into their bathing suits. We got swimming tubes and balls to play around with. We divided ourselves into two teams and played marco polo.

It was amazing to see everyone relax and have a wonderful time. We then went to watch an action movie at the theatre. Everyone purchased cool beverages and popcorn. My cousin and I even felt a bit chilly due to the air conditioning—everyone else had a good laugh over it. Even though the weather was not in our favour, we managed to turn our day around and made it into one of the memorable days that I will always cherish.
