भारत एक उभरती हुई शक्ति पर निबंध

आज के समय में सारे संसार के अर्थशास्त्री भारत को एक उभरती हुई शक्ति तथा अर्थव्यवस्था मान रहे हैं. सैकड़ों वर्षों की गुलामी के तत्पश्चात अपने आर्थिक ढाँचे में मूलभूत सुधार कर विकसित देशों को टक्कर देते हुए एक महाशक्ति के रूप में उदय भारत की यह राह आसान नही थी.

भारत ने आजादी के पश्चात विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अलग अलग नीतियाँ अपनाई चाहे वो राष्ट्रीकरण की हो, हरित क्रांति, उदारीकरण एवं निजीकरण के विषय हो या शीत युद्ध काल में गुटनिरपेक्षता के रूप में विश्व शांति व राष्ट्र प्रगति के विषय में स्वयं को केन्द्रित करने की चाह ने आज भारत को एक तेजी से उभरती हुई सुपरपॉवर के रूप में खड़ा किया हैं.

भले ही भारत ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय महत्व के निर्णयों को देरी से उठाया हो, मगर सोच समझकर उठाए गये इन कदमों की बदौलत ही आज भारत जैसे देश जिनकी जनसंख्या विश्व की दूसरी बड़ी आबादी के विकास के साथ साथ इसे एक समस्या न समझकर विकास का हथियार बनाकर, अधिक उत्पादन तथा कम लागत व मजदूरी की निति के चलते विकास के नए आयामों को स्थापित करने में सफलता अर्जित की हैं.

आज से तक़रीबन 30 साल पहले तक भारत को सुरक्षा, तकनीक तथा कई अन्य विषयों पर विदेशी सहायता तथा आयात के लिए हाथ फैलाना पड़ता था.

मगर इसी समय के दौरान भारत ने इसी समय पिछड़े व विकासशील देशों के नेता व सच्चे हितेषी व परामर्शदाता की भूमिका का निर्वहन किया था. इसी के चलते भारत को इन देशों ने अपना प्रतिद्वंदी न समझते हुए परम मित्र के रूप में समझा.

ब्राजील जैसे राष्ट्र एक दशक में विकास की दृष्टि से भारत से कहीं आगे थे. मगर 1992 में उदारीकरण एवं निजीकरण की निति ने वैश्विक नजारा बदल कर रखा दिया, अब तक भारत को जनसंख्या के बोझ से दबा व पीछा देश माना जाता था.

इन्ही नीतियों के सकारात्मक परिणामों की बदौलत भारत अब एक उभरती हुई शक्ति के रूप में उभर रहा हैं. अब चीन ही भारत का प्रतिद्वंदी नजर आता हैं. भविष्य में भारत को विकास, तकनीक, सुरक्षा जैसे अहम विषयों पर चीनियों से मुकाबला होना संभावित हैं.

इसके अतिरिक्त संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की सुरक्षा परिषद में भारत के स्थायी सदस्य के रूप में देखा जा रहा हैं. भारत ने उदारीकरण यानि वर्ल्ड के लिए ओपन डोर की निति ९० के दशक में अपनाई थी, चीन ने भारत से ठीक एक दशक पूर्व इसे अपनाया था, जिसका लाभ उन्हें मिला.

आज के समय में जापान, फ़्रांस, रूस तथा सुपर पॉवर अमेरिका जैसे देश भी चीन में निवेश करने से पूर्व हजारों बार सोचते हैं, चीनी बाजार की अनिश्चिंतता तथा श्रम व लागत में वृद्धि के चलते भविष्य में चीनी बाजार अर्थव्यवस्था के लिए खतरा उत्पन्न कर सकते हैं.

वही आज भारत को विश्व के अधिकांश देश व कम्पनियां एक बड़े बाजार के रूप में देख रहे हैं. हर देश आज भारत के साथ आर्थिक संबंध स्थापित करने को ललायित हैं. पिछले ५-६ सालों के दौरान मोदी सरकार के कार्यकाल में पूरे विश्व का भारत के प्रति आकर्षण बढ़ा हैं.

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने सभी राष्ट्रों व सुपरपॉवर के साथ भारत के अच्छे रिश्ते बनाने की पहल की हैं. जिससे चीन सहित अन्य हमारे प्रतिद्वंदी चिंतित हैं.

भारत में विदेशी कम्पनिओं को निवेश से जरा भी भय नहीं रहता हैं, क्योंकि भारत वो महाशक्ति हैं जहाँ विश्व के सभी देश आर्थिक मंदी से गुजर रहे होते हैं. भारत अपनी विकास दर के मुताबिक़ आगे बढ़ रहा होता हैं.

अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ओबामा और अब डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प ने कहा हैं, कि भारत अब एक उभरती हुई शक्ति नही बल्कि एक सुपरपॉवर राष्ट्र हैं. भारत परमाणु शक्ति के मामले में तीसरा बड़ा राष्ट्र हैं.

Today’s episode is all about India. You don’t have to believe that demography is pure destiny to appreciate the fact that the future of India is the future of the world. In 2024, today, India is the largest country by population on the planet, having surpassed China two years ago. In 2050, India is still projected to be the largest country in the world. In 2100, when I am 114 years old and this podcast is hosted by my cryo-frozen vat brain, India’s projected to be larger than the next two biggest countries combined: China and Nigeria.

This spring, nearly one billion Indians are eligible to vote in India’s election, and the big winner is almost certain—the highly popular and highly controversial Prime Minister Narendra Modi. What kind of a country is India becoming under Modi? Ravi Agrawal, the editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy magazine, joins us to discuss.

In the following excerpt, Derek and Ravi Agrawal explore how India has defined what it wants to be and the main differences between Jawaharlal Nehru and Narendra Modi.

Derek Thompson: The latest issue of foreign policy is devoted to the rise of India. At the biggest-picture level, what is it that you think Westerners, and maybe Americans in particular, don’t understand about India?

Ravi Agrawal: Well, I think one of the things in general is that in the West, we tend to think that every other country in the world wants to be more like us: more Western, more democratic, necessarily, more free. And that didn’t work out with China, and I don’t think it’s true of India either. I think India has its own sense of what it wants to be in the future. When it thinks about models of what it wants to be, there’s an element of envy in the way it looks at America and also Britain, but also China and also Singapore and also its own history. So it’s very complicated. Indians are going to chart their own path for what they want their country to be. It is democratic in that sense, and it’s what the people want.

Thompson: Your new essay on India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which anchors the new India issue of Foreign Policy magazine, is called “The New Idea of India.” And as long as we’re discussing the new idea of India, maybe we should start here. What is the old idea of modern India according to you?

Agrawal: So, as with any country, all countries have foundational myths. All countries have ways in which they have debated and contested ideas about who they really are, who they really want to be, what their vision is. And India is no different in that sense. It has always had a vibrant debate and discussion about what it really is. And in the 20th century, the early 1900s, when India was beginning to put forward a freedom-fighting movement to overthrow British colonial rule, there were many different ideas for what India could be. The idea that ended up winning out was an idea of a progressive, liberal, secular country. And the country’s founding fathers who put together this idea of what India could be, they had a profound understanding that India was a very divided country. India today, as well, is a collection of states where people speak different languages. There are different cultures and micro-histories, certainly different cuisines. You travel 100 miles, and there’s an entirely different dialect that people might be speaking.

And in many senses, in 1947, the year India became independent, the idea of uniting all of these groups together was an unlikely idea. And so what India’s founding fathers tried to do is that they united the country through an idea that, for this to work, it has to be secular; it has to be liberal; it has to be a vision that is evolving and inclusive and, in many senses, different from, say, Pakistan, which was founded as a homeland for Muslims. So in that Pakistan was exclusionary, India would be inclusionary. And that was the vision and the idea of India that prevailed for several decades of version 1.0 of India’s existence. I picked the phrase “idea of India,” by the way, from a book that was a very famous book that came out in 1997, the 50th year of India’s anniversary. And it was written by the historian Sunil Khilnani. And his point was exactly this, that India was an unlikely democracy. What knitted it together was secularism and democracy, basically.

Thompson: So India’s progressive, liberal, secular identity was embodied in many ways in its first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. He was anglicized, you write. He was Cambridge educated. He went by Joe in his 20s. And that stands in sharp contrast to the current prime minister, Narendra Modi. Before we talk about Modi’s policies, let’s maybe spend a little bit of time on his biography. How do Modi’s upbringing and his early history compare or stand in contrast with Nehru’s?

Agrawal: Oh, they were so different, and without ascribing any value judgments, good or bad, to any of this, as you point out, Nehru was very anglicized, came from a rich family, upper middle class at the very least. Before Cambridge, he went to Harrow. So he was as anglicized as it gets. And in many ways, in the first few decades of India’s existence as a country, people like Nehru were seen as the ideal of what Indians could be: fluent English speakers, insider outsiders, but also speakers of an Indian language, deeply knowledgeable about the country with a vision for what the country could be. Modi is different primarily in that he doesn’t come from Nehru’s world; he doesn’t come from an elite background. His family was lower caste, lower middle class. His father was a tea seller. Modi was not a fluent English speaker, still isn’t really. He speaks English. But really what he is known for when it comes to his oration, which he’s very good at, is Hindi.

He’s a fantastic Hindi speaker. But when you look at Modi’s formative education, yes, he spent some time at a university, not a very well-known one. He joined the RSS, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is best described as a Hindu social movement, also a paramilitary group, that has about 5 million members. And Modi essentially traveled around the country as a Hindu community organizer. He’d sleep in ordinary people’s homes, really got a sense of what the anxieties of the average Indian middle-class family were like, of what their hopes and dreams and aspirations were like. In many senses, if you speak to biographers of Modi, that was the thing he often grew on as the source of his thinking, as his formative education, as it were. So he could not be more different from Nehru. He comes from a totally different world.

Workers will have got their rightful due. They will no longer be dependent upon the mercy of their employers. They will be equal partners in the progress of the industry. The unemployment problem seems to have solved to a great extent with the expansion of industries into far off villages along with the modernization of Agriculture. The New Education Policy will have borne its full fruit and the whole system of Education will be vocational zed and there will be no problem of skilled workers and jobs for them.

Hopefully India would be one of the great power of the world in terms of her war-preparedness and the current problems of terrorism and border skirmishes will have died a natural death and everything will be stable with everything. India will have proved to be an electronic giant in terms of the production and export of electronic goods.

Our relations with our neighbours countries will have turned to be fully cordial including China and our efforts to make South Asia a single unity would have borne fruit to a great extent.

India can also build more livable smart cities rooted in community and nature, improving the quality of life across urban spaces.

In 2050, India will have significantly reduced income inequality and poverty through sound policies focused on health, education and empowering women. निबंध 1 (300 शब्द).

भारत एक बहु-सांस्कृतिक, बहुभाषी और बहु-धार्मिक समाज है, जिसने पिछली शताब्दी में विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में स्थिर प्रगति देखी है। मेरे सपनों का भारत वो भारत है जो इससे भी अधिक गति से प्रगति करे और जल्द ही विकसित देशों की सूची में शामिल हो।

यहां पर उन महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों की जानकारी दी गई है जिनमें भारत को बेहतर बनाने के लिए ध्यान देने की आवश्यकता है:

• शिक्षा और रोजगार

मैं ऐसे भारत का सपना देखता हूं जहां हर नागरिक शिक्षित होगा और हर किसी को योग्य रोजगार के मौके मिल सकेंगे। शिक्षित और प्रतिभाशाली व्यक्तियों से भरे राष्ट्र के विकास को कोई रोक नहीं सकता।

• जाति और धार्मिक मुद्दे

मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा भारत होगा जहां लोगों को उनकी जाति या धर्म के आधार पर भेदभाव नहीं किया जाएगा। जाती और धार्मिक मुद्दों को दरकिनार करके कार्य करना राष्ट्र को मजबूत करने में काफी महत्वपूर्ण कदम होगा।

• औद्योगिक और तकनीकी विकास

​​भारत ने पिछले कुछ दशकों में औद्योगिक और तकनीकी विकास दोनों को देखा है। हालाँकि यह विकास अभी भी अन्य देशों के विकास के समान नहीं है। मेरे सपनों का भारत तकनीकी क्षेत्र के साथ-साथ अन्य क्षेत्रों में तेज़ी से प्रगति करेगा।

देश में बहुत भ्रष्टाचार है और इसकी दर हर दिन तेज़ी से बढ़ रही है। आम आदमी भ्रष्ट राजनेताओं के हाथों पीड़ित है जो केवल अपने स्वार्थी उद्देश्यों को पूरा करने में रुचि रखते हैं। मेरे सपनों का भारत भ्रष्टाचार से मुक्त होगा। यह एक ऐसा देश होगा जहां लोगों की भलाई सरकार का एकमात्र एजेंडा होगी।

• लिंग भेदभाव

यह देखना अत्यंत दुखदायी है कि जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में खुद को साबित होने के बाद भी महिलाओं को अब तक पुरुषों से नीचा माना जाता है। मेरे सपनों का भारत में कोई लिंग भेदभाव नहीं होगा। यह ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां पुरुषों और महिलाओं को बराबर माना जाता हो।

संक्षेप में, मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां लोग खुश और सुरक्षित महसूस करते हैं और अच्छे जीवन की गुणवत्ता का आनंद लेते हैं।

निबंध 2 (400 शब्द)

हमें गर्व है की भारत में विभिन्न जातियों, धर्मों और धर्मों से संबंधित लोग एक साथ रहते है। हमारा देश अपनी समृद्ध संस्कृति और विविधता में एकता के लिए जाना जाता है। पिछले कुछ दशकों में भारत ने विभिन्न उद्योगों में भी तेजी देखी है। हालांकि, हमें अभी भी इसकी खुशहाली के लिए लंबा रास्ता तय करना है।

मैं ऐसे भारत का सपना देखता हूँ जो भ्रष्टाचार से मुक्त हो। यह एक ऐसी जगह होगी जहां राजनीतिक नेता अपने स्वयं के स्वार्थ को पूरा करने के बजाय देशों की सेवा में समर्पित रहेंगे।

• तकनीकी विकास

मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा देश होगा जहां समानता की स्वतंत्रता अपने वास्तविक अर्थों में मिली है। यह ऐसी जगह होगी जहां किसी व्यक्ति की जाति, पंथ, धर्म, सामाजिक या आर्थिक स्थिति के आधार पर कोई भेदभाव नहीं किया जाता हो। मैं इसे एक ऐसे स्थान के रूप में भी देखता हूं जिसने औद्योगिक और तकनीकी क्षेत्रों में तेज़ी से विकास को देखा हो। यहां कुछ ऐसे क्षेत्रों में विशेष रूप से ध्यान देने की आवश्यकता है:

आज के समय में अधिक से अधिक महिलाएं अपने घरों से बाहर निकल रही हैं और अलग-अलग क्षेत्रों में अपनी एक पहचान बना रही हैं लेकिन फिर भी हमारे देश की महिलाएं आज भी काफ़ी भेदभाव का शिकार होती है। स्त्री भ्रूणहत से लेकर महिलाओं को घरेलू कार्यों में सीमित करने तक अभी बहुत सारे क्षेत्रों में काम करने की आवश्यकता है। महिला सशक्तिकरण को बढ़ावा देने के लिए कई गैर-लाभकारी संगठन आगे आए हैं। हालांकि हमें समाज की मानसिकता को बदलने पर बहुत काम करना है। मैं ऐसे भारत का सपना देखता हूं जहाँ महिलाओं को बराबरी का दर्जा प्राप्त होगा।

हालांकि भारत सरकार शिक्षा की मांग के महत्व को बढ़ावा देने के प्रयास कर रही है पर अभी भी देश में बहुत से लोग इसके महत्व को महसूस नहीं कर रहे हैं। मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां शिक्षा सभी के लिए अनिवार्य हो। सबकी शिक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सरकार को जरुरी कदम उठाने चाहिए ताकि देश में कोई भी बच्चा शिक्षा से रहित नहीं ना रहे।

रोजगार के अवसर

देश के कई योग्य युवाओं को रोजगार के अवसर नहीं मिल रहे है। अवसर या तो सीमित होते हैं या योग्य उम्मीदवारों की जरुरत के अनुपात में नहीं होते हैं। इसके पीछे मुख्य कारण कमजोर औद्योगिक वृद्धि है। इसके अलावा कुछ अन्य कारक हैं जैसे कि आरक्षण जो कि योग्य उम्मीदवारों को अच्छा अवसर प्राप्त करने से रोकते हैं। भारत में रोजगार के अवसरों को पाने में असफल रहने वाले कई युवा विदेशों में चले जाते हैं और अपने कुशल दिमाग का अन्य देशों के आर्थिक विकास के लिए काम करते हैं जबकि कुछ लोग सारी उम्र काम नहीं मिलने की वजह से बेरोजगार घूमते हैं।

जाति भेदभाव

देश अभी भी जाति, पंथ और धर्म के आधार पर भेदभाव से मुक्त नहीं है। यह देखना अत्यंत दुखदायी है कि अभी भी कैसे देश के कुछ हिस्सों में कमजोर वर्गों के लोग अपने मूल अधिकारों से वंचित रह रहे हैं।

इसके अलावा कई विभिन्न कट्टरपंथी और अलगाववादी समूह है जो लोगों को अपने धर्म का प्रचार करने और दूसरों के धर्म बारे में गलत बात का प्रचार करने के लिए उकसातें हैं। इससे देश में अक्सर अशांति फैलती है। मैं ऐसे भारत का सपना देखता हूँ जहां लोगों से जाति और धर्म के आधार पर भेदभाव नहीं किया जाता हो।

भारत के विकास की गति में मुख्य अवरोध भ्रष्टाचार है। ऐसा लगता है कि देश की सेवा करने के बजाय यहां के राजनीतिक नेता अपनी जेब भरने में व्यस्त हैं। मेरे सपनों का भारत वह होगा जहां के मंत्री पूरी तरह से देश और उसके नागरिकों के विकास के लिए समर्पित रहे।

मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा देश होगा जो अपने सभी नागरिकों को समान मानता हो और किसी भी मापदंड के आधार पर उनसे भेदभाव नहीं करता हो। मैं एक ऐसी जगह का सपना देखता हूँ जहां महिलाओं का सम्मान किया जाता है और उन्हें पुरुषों के समान देखा जाता हो। मैं चाहता हूं कि आने वाले समय में विज्ञान, प्रौद्योगिकी, कृषि और शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में भारत प्रगति करे।

निबंध 4 (600 शब्द)

भारत एक ऐसा देश है जहां विभिन्न जातीय समूहों, जातियों और धर्मों के लोग सौहार्दपूर्ण ढंग से रहते हैं। भारत को अपनी समृद्ध, विविध सांस्कृतिक विरासत पर गर्व है। हालाँकि भारत ने अपनी आजादी के बाद से अब तक एक लंबा सफर तय किया है। पिछले कुछ दशकों में इसने एक विशाल सामाजिक और आर्थिक विकास को देखा है पर देश के कई हिस्सों में अभी भी आर्थिक और सामाजिक असमानताएं मौजूद है। देश के कई हिस्सों में लोगों को उनकी जाति और धार्मिक प्राथमिकताओं के आधार पर नीची नजरों से देखा जाता है। मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां हर नागरिक को समानता की वास्तविक स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त होगी।

सुधार के क्षेत्र

देश को आगे बढ़ाने और विकसित करने के लिए अभी भी काफी काम करने की ज़रूरत है। यहां चार प्रमुख क्षेत्रों पर एक नज़र डाली गई है जिन पर तत्काल ध्यान देने की आवश्यकता हैं:

शिक्षा किसी भी देश की मजबूती की नीवं है। हमारे देश की प्रमुख कमियों में से एक यह है कि लोग अभी भी शिक्षा के महत्व को नहीं पहचानते हैं। गरीबी या गरीबी रेखा के नीचे रहने वाले लोग विशेष रूप से शिक्षित होने के महत्व को अनदेखी करते हैं। उन्हें नहीं पता है कि शिक्षा की कमी गरीबी के लिए जिम्मेदार मुख्य कारकों में से एक है। सरकार अनिवार्य शिक्षा के अधिकार को बढ़ावा देने तथा वयस्क शिक्षा विद्यालय खोलने के माध्यम से यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कदम उठा रही है कि अधिक से अधिक लोगों को अपने बच्चों के लिए मुफ्त शिक्षा की पहुंच हो। मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा स्थान होगा जहां हर नागरिक शिक्षित और कुशल हो।

लिंग भेदभाव एक और मुद्दा है जिस पर काम करने की जरुरत है। महिलाओं को लगातार उनके अधिकारों के बारे में जागरूक किया जा रहा है और वे विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अच्छा प्रदर्शन भी कर रही हैं, फिर भी महिलाओं को समाज में अपनी जगह बनाने के लिए कई बाधाओं से लड़ना होगा।

देश के कई हिस्सों में लड़की का जन्म अभी भी एक अभिशाप माना जाता है। उच्च शिक्षा के लिए लड़कियों को प्रोत्साहित नहीं किया जाता है। यहां तक ​​कि महिलाएं जो योग्य हैं उनसे भी यह अपेक्षा की जाती है कि वे विवाह के बाद बाहर काम करने की बजाए अपने परिवार की देखभाल करे। काम पर महिलाओं को दी गई मजदूरी पुरुषों को दिए वेतन की तुलना में कम होती है। मैं ऐसे भारत का सपना देखता हूँ जो महिलाओं के खिलाफ भेदभाव से रहित हो।

हालांकि भारत ने विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में बहुत विकास और उन्नति देखी है फिर भी अभी इस क्षेत्र में कड़ी मेहनत करने की आवश्यकता है। यह देखना अत्यंत दुखदायी है कि तेज़ बुद्धि वाले व्यक्ति अपने देश के विकास में योगदान करने के बजाय विदेशों में रोजगार के अवसर तलाशने और उन देशों की तकनीकी और औद्योगिक उन्नति में योगदान देने चले जाते है। मेरे सपनों का भारत वो भारत है जो व्यक्तियों के लिए अच्छे रोजगार के अवसर प्रदान करता है और देश को तकनीकी प्रगति के पथ एक नई दिशा प्रदान करता है।

भारत में अपराध दर दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ रही है। बलात्कार, डकैती, दहेज और हत्या के कई मामले हर दिन दर्ज किए जा रहे हैं। कई मामलो की तो सुनवाई ही नहीं हो रही है। शिक्षा का अभाव, बेरोजगारी और गरीबी ने इस दिशा में बढ़ावा दिया है। मेरे सपनों का भारत एक ऐसा देश होगा जहां सरकार लोगों की सुरक्षा और सुरक्षा के प्रति अधिक संवेदनशील हो। तभी भारत अपराध और शोषण से मुक्त होगा।

भारत ने पिछले कुछ दशकों में तेजी से औद्योगिक विकास, तकनीकी उन्नति और कई अन्य क्षेत्रों में प्रगति देखी है। हालांकि अभी भी सुधार की बहुत गुंजाइश है। भारत को पहले के समय में इसकी समृधि के कारण सोने की चिड़िया कहा जाता था। मैं चाहता हूं कि देश उस गौरव को फिर से प्राप्त करे। मैं चाहता हूँ कि वह ना सिर्फ आर्थिक समृद्धि का आनंद ले बल्कि सांस्कृतिक और सामाजिक रूप से भी अमीर हो। देश के सभी नागरिकों से समान व्यवहार हो और किसी से कोई भी भेदभाव या अन्याय नहीं होना चाहिए।

Challenges posed by Renewable Energy Projects in India

  Context: The challenges posed by renewable energy development, particularly in the context of solar parks, underscore the complex intersection between sustainable energy goals and local socio-economic and environmental concerns.

India’s Renewable Energy Status:

India is the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. In the fiscal year 2023-24, India added over 18 GW of renewable energy capacity , a 21% increase from the previous year, led by solar (approx. 13 GW) and wind (approx. 2 GW) installations. Total installed capacity has risen from over 76 GW in 2014 to approx. 179 GW by October 2023, nearly 2.34 times higher.

India aims to install 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 , significantly up from the previous 450 GW target.

Large-Scale Renewable Energy Parks: Positive Impacts

• Steady Income for Landowners : Farmers in areas like Pavagada, Karnataka, gain a reliable annual income by leasing their land to solar parks.
• Renewable Energy Production : These parks play a vital role in India’s renewable energy output, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the country’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.
• Employment Opportunities : The development of large-scale renewable energy projects creates job opportunities locally, fostering employment growth in the regions where they are established.

Challenges Posed by the Renewable Energy Projects:

Regional Divide in Renewable Energy Projects:

  According to the Central Electricity Authority’s report on Optimal Generation Capacity Mix, by 2030 , solar and wind will make up almost 51 per cent of total generation capacity and almost 31 per cent of all generated power. If these projections materialise, they are likely to have major fiscal consequences for the coal-rich states of the East (where the majority of poor people live)

The c oncentration of RE assets in West and South

India’s massive RE build-out so far has largely benefited western and southern states. In August 2023, 92.5 per cent of all grid-connected RE generation came from eight states( Central Electricity Authority ).

The main reasons behind this are;

• Eg: Rajasthan for solar power and Tamil Nadu for wind power.
• Eg: States like Jharkhand and Odisha depend a lot on coal royalties .
• Investment environment: Southern and Western states have better fiscal and budgetary condition that promotes investor confidence.
• Land availability and cost of RE: According to Bridge to India , a renewable power consultancy, the lack of easy availability of renewable resources and land together are the main hindrances in the growth of renewable energy in the eastern region.

Impacts on the revenue of coal-rich states

• The decline in royalties : Coal royalties as a proportion of overall state revenue will decline as coal growth starts slowing later this decade
• Increase in cost of power : The cost of power procurement will increase as new RE contracts are layered on top of existing commitments for firm power.
• Increase in power import: Grid-scale energy storage technologies are unlikely to be adopted at a large scale by the end of the decade. Since most coal-rich states have limited grid-scale RE-deployment, they will have to import more power from other states.
• Worsen budget deficits : Declining royalties and increasing imports could worsen the budget deficits of RE-poor power-importing states by almost 66 per cent on average (beyond the norms of the FRBM Act, 2003 ).
• Displacement of RE integration costs : By giving inter-state transmission waivers to an entire generation of new RE projects, the integration costs of the energy transition are displaced onto state PSU balance sheets without necessarily facilitating compensatory investment in upgraded transmission capacity, which can better manage the variability of the new RE projects.
• Global market dynamics : International demand for cleaner energy sources could influence India’s energy export market. States with significant renewable energy assets may benefit from such global dynamics, potentially affecting the overall economic landscape.

Way forward

Green industrial policy should not be the exclusive privilege of historically well-endowed states. Otherwise, the energy transition will simply be yet another drain of resources from India’s least developed to its most developed regions. Policy measures that support both the decline of traditional energy sources and the rise of renewables will play a key role in managing these transitions effectively.
