Essay on My House for Students and Children

500+ words essay on my house.

Essay on My House:  The world consists of all types of people. Some are fortunate enough to have amenities while some aren’t. Especially in a country like India, where the majority of the population lives below the poverty line . To own a house here is no less than a luxury, one which I thankfully have. I am blessed to be protected by four walls and a roof.

Essay on My house

It is my parent’s hard work that has given us this blessing. Many people in today’s world are always complaining about the things they don’t have. The person who has a house wants a bungalow. The one who owns a bungalow wants a palace. The one living in a palace wants an island. This never-ending cycle goes on. However, if we look at the people below us rather than those who are above us, we will be happier.

An Underrated Blessing

Having a house is an underrated blessing. If you have not realized it yet, you can go and ask any person who doesn’t have a house. Only then will you realize what a great blessing it is to have a house. Houses do not necessarily have to be luxuriously filled with the latest amenities. A house is complete if you have a roof over your head.

Moreover, if you have your loved ones around, then there can be no greater blessing. You must realize the importance of your house before it gets too late. Even I never knew how precious my house was up until one incident that changed my outlook.

We had house help growing up. The maid who used to work for us always came early in the morning and would leave in the evening. Even when my mother asked her to leave early as she completed the work on time, she never did that. On the other hand, she used to do extra work. Later we found out that she never really had a house. It was just a hut which had one chair and one folding. And that she liked spending time most of the time at our house because she had access to all basic facilities like electricity and clean water.

This incident made me realize how I took my house for granted. It is truly an underrated blessing which is overlooked by others. We must value our homes before it gets too late.

I live in my ancestral home with my grandparents, parents, and siblings. My grandfather built this house with his hard work. It has four rooms, one kitchen, two bathrooms, and a patio. My house is at least fifty years old.

I admire the beauty of my house. The vintage vibes make it even more beautiful. My grandparents have a small garden in the patio which adds greenery to my house. Moreover, it also has two trees. One is a pomegranate tree and the other is a Henna tree. They provide us with shade and sweet fruits.

My house has very high ceilings as it was made many years back. It has vintage switchboards which give it a very unique look. My house is situated in the middle of four roads. It is not joined to any other house. My house has four entrances from each side.

Whenever my friends come over to my house, they click a lot of pictures. Even my relatives love the interior of the house which is a mix of modern and vintage architecture. My house is colored in brown and beige color and it stands out in our locality.

My House Essay 250 Words

A home serves as a sanctuary from the daily grind, providing solace and security. I reside in a charming abode nestled within a bustling urban neighborhood. This location boasts convenient proximity to a bus stop, educational institutions, shops, and more. My home is my haven, a place where I feel at ease and self-assured, and one where I yearn to spend most of my time.

Inside, there are three spacious bedrooms, a welcoming dining area, a well-equipped kitchen, and well-maintained bathrooms. In the front yard, we’ve cultivated a delightful garden with colorful flowers, while the backyard is dedicated to growing our own vegetables. Abundant natural light permeates the house, enhancing its inviting ambiance.

Constructed from a combination of sturdy materials like bricks, wood, tiles, and marble, my home exudes a timeless charm. The marble flooring lends an air of elegance throughout. The bedrooms are generously proportioned, well-ventilated, and flooded with natural light. Our bathrooms are commodious and feature modern showers, while our dining area is tastefully adorned.

The open kitchen allows us to savor the view of our backyard while preparing meals. Notably, our windows, constructed from rich brown wood, are broad and open wide during sunny days. The window in our dining room particularly captivates me, as it overlooks a street lined with majestic, ancient oak trees.

Our neighborhood is graced with friendly and considerate neighbors who readily extend their kindness and support. While my house is undeniably beautiful, it is the presence of my family that truly infuses it with warmth and charm. I hold a deep affection for my cherished home.

My House Essay 300 Words

A home holds a special place in our hearts, for it’s where we truly live and thrive. It’s a fundamental need for all of us, and we design our homes to suit our unique needs, using materials like wood, cement, iron, mortar, and bricks.

Speaking of my home, I consider myself truly blessed to reside in the serene Adarsh colony of Gorakhpur. Ours is a modest abode, as we belong to a middle-class family. But within these walls, our family thrives, comprising my dear father, caring mother, my three beloved sisters, and our ever-smiling grandmother.

Inside, our home offers us two bedrooms, a spacious veranda, a well-equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, a convenient bathroom, and a charming little garden outside, which also doubles as a garage. My father takes it upon himself to ensure our home gets a fresh coat of paint and regular maintenance every year. Right in front of our house, there’s an empty plot adorned with various trees and plants, enhancing the beauty of our surroundings.

The three of us sisters share one room, painted in our favorite shade of blue, a space we utilize for our studies. We take pride in keeping our room spotlessly clean. My mother, a stickler for cleanliness, extends her touch of orderliness to the entirety of our home, both inside and out.

Though we might be a small family, our home radiates with happiness. It’s a haven that envelops me in a feeling of security and comfort, a place where my fondest childhood memories were crafted. During festivals and special occasions, our home undergoes a magical transformation as we adorn it with decorations, making it even more enchanting.

In Conclusion

My home is my sanctuary, the ultimate place for relaxation and contentment. The very mention of it fills my heart with warmth and affection. It’s a dwelling brimming with positivity and blessings, all thanks to the loving souls that make up my wonderful family, who transform it into a beautiful abode.

My House Essay 500 Words

A home is a special place that provides comfort to all who reside in it. This is because a home is brimming with love and vitality. Just like anyone fortunate, I too have a home and a caring family. In this essay about my home, I will describe its characteristics and share its significance in my life.

A Peaceful Place I Call Home

Nestled within the heart of the city lies my beloved home. It’s not overly spacious, nor is it too petite; rather, it’s just the right size for my family and me. Our household consists of my father, mother, sister, and grandparents. What makes our dwelling particularly special is its vintage character, as it’s been passed down through generations.

Despite its age, our home stands resilient and strong. It boasts six rooms, each with a unique touch that reflects the individuality of its occupant. For instance, my elder sister, a passionate music enthusiast, has adorned her walls with posters featuring her favorite musicians, including BTS and RM.

The centerpiece of our home is the spacious living room, boasting lofty ceilings. Here, we still cherish the vintage sofa set that my grandmother received as a wedding gift. Adjoining it, you’ll find antique relics like an old television and radio, both of which my grandmother continues to use to this day.

My personal sanctuary lies just next door – my bedroom. It’s my most cherished space, housing all the things I hold dear. Notably, my pet guinea pig resides in a cozy cage here. Additionally, our storage room is a repository of items we no longer employ but can’t quite bring ourselves to part with.

Stepping outside, our front lawn boasts a charming garden. It’s here that my mother tends to her kitchen garden, a labor of love where she cultivates various seeds, introducing new varieties each month to enhance our culinary experiences.

Yet, the fondest memories I hold dear are tethered to our terrace. This spacious outdoor haven is adorned with an array of flourishing plants. It’s witnessed countless joyous family moments and serves as a playground when my cousins come to visit. As a result, every nook and cranny of my home carries a special place in my heart.

In the course of life, I’ve come to a profound realization – not everyone enjoys the same kind of home as I do. Some have considerably less, and sadly, some have no home at all. This awareness has deepened my sense of gratitude and appreciation for the place I fondly call home. I understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a good home and a loving family, and for this, I feel truly blessed. Appreciation Towards My Home The reason I hold my home in such high regard is that, as I journey through life, I know that I will look back on the cherished memories I’ve created here with warmth and nostalgia. The simple act of reminiscing about those moments will be all the more special due to the consistent sense of safety and security that my home has always provided. It genuinely is an ideal place to live.

In conclusion

My home occupies a unique and cherished place in my heart because it instills in me a profound sense of belonging, regardless of the circumstances. It aids me in comprehending my role in the world and my connection to the vast universe. For this reason, I am profoundly thankful to have a place that I can wholeheartedly call my own.

250 Words Essay on My Home

The concept of “home” transcends beyond the physical structure of bricks and mortar. It is a realm of comfort, familiarity, and emotional security, embodying personal space and freedom. My home, in particular, is a microcosm of my existence, reflecting my personality, values, and aspirations.

The Physical Structure

My home is a beautiful amalgamation of tradition and modernity. The architecture is a testament to our family’s eclectic taste, blending the vintage charm of wooden furniture with the sleek elegance of contemporary design. Each room, from the cozy living area to the tranquil bedrooms, exudes warmth and tranquility.

Symbol of Relationships

More than its physical attributes, my home is the embodiment of the relationships and memories nurtured within its walls. It is a place where love is unconditionally given and received, where disagreements are resolved, and where laughter and tears are shared. The kitchen, brimming with my mother’s culinary expertise, is the heart of our home, while the living room, filled with shared stories and laughter, is its soul.

A Sanctuary of Solitude

My home is also my sanctuary, a place where I can retreat from the world’s chaos. My room, in particular, is a sanctum of solitude, where I can introspect, meditate, and rejuvenate. It’s where I delve into the depths of literature, music, and art, enriching my intellect and creativity.

In essence, my home is more than a physical structure; it is a reflection of who I am and what I value. It is a sanctuary of love, comfort, and growth, a testament to my journey and evolution. It is, indeed, the place where my heart truly resides.

500 Words Essay on My Home

Introduction: the concept of home.

Home is much more than a physical structure consisting of walls, doors, and windows. It is an intimate space that nurtures our growth and development, serving as a sanctuary from the outside world. The concept of home is deeply intertwined with our identity, emotions, and experiences, shaping our understanding of comfort, safety, and belonging.

The Architecture of Memories

A home is the canvas on which we paint the story of our lives. Each corner holds a memory, each room echoes with laughter, debates, triumphs, and sometimes, tears. The kitchen, often the heart of the home, resonates with the aroma of shared meals and conversations. The living room, a space for communal engagement, is where we learn the art of social interaction. In our personal rooms, we explore our individuality, cherishing solitude and introspection. These spaces collectively shape our experiences, contributing to our personal growth and emotional well-being.

Home as a Reflection of Self

Our homes often reflect our personalities, interests, and values. The choice of decor, the arrangement of furniture, the books on the shelves, or the art on the walls provide a glimpse into our inner world. This personalization of space allows us to express ourselves freely, fostering creativity and authenticity. Moreover, the sense of ownership and control over our environment can instill a sense of security and self-confidence.

The Emotional Sanctuary

Home serves as an emotional sanctuary, providing a safe space to express and process our feelings. It is where we can be our most authentic selves, free from societal judgments and expectations. This emotional safety nurtures our mental health, empowering us to face life’s challenges with resilience. Furthermore, the bonds we form with family or housemates within these walls contribute to our social support system, crucial for our emotional well-being.

Home: A Catalyst for Personal Growth

The home environment plays a significant role in our personal development. It is where we learn our first lessons about love, trust, cooperation, and conflict resolution. The experiences we encounter within our homes shape our worldview, influencing our attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Thus, home serves as a foundational platform for our intellectual, emotional, and social growth.

Conclusion: The Universality of Home

While the physical aspects of homes may differ across cultures and geographies, the emotional essence remains universal. Home is a symbol of safety, comfort, and identity. It is a repository of memories, a canvas for self-expression, and a catalyst for personal growth. Regardless of its size or location, the value of home lies in its ability to provide a nurturing space for us to grow, learn, and thrive. It is not just a place, but a feeling, a state of being, and a testament to our journey through life.

196 Home Essay Topic Ideas & Examples

🌎 writing an outstanding home essay, 👍 good essay topics on home, 🎓 simple & easy home essay titles, ✅ good research topics about home, ✍️ home essay topics for college, 📝 interesting topics to write about home.

You may be required to write a home essay in school or in a variety of higher education programs, particularly those in social sciences.

You may be required to describe your hometown and how it affected your childhood and adolescence. Alternately, the essay may cover your dream house and what you would like to see in it.

Such essays generally appreciate originality and cleverness, and you should make them interesting and engaging. However, you should not go overboard with additions and expressions, as some of them may be excessive or unnecessary.

This article will help you understand what you should and should not do when writing a home essay of either variety. When discussing the topic of your hometown, you should consider a variety of aspects, as this sort of essay is not solely about yourself.

Your family biography would be a good choice among various home essay topics to provide background to your childhood and describe your upbringing.

Prominent memories would also be helpful, as your perception of your childhood tends to be the primary focus of this variety of essay. As such, you should not discuss factors that you learned about later on unless they are directly relevant to the story.

You should also try to avoid letting such knowledge twist what you remember of the circumstances. You may note that you later learned that the reality was different from what you remember as a child, but you should always mention the latter.

When discussing your ideas of a perfect house, you will want to cover a variety of aspects. The physical parameters, such as location, size, design, color scheme, and many other options you have to consider when furnishing your home are important topics.

However, the essay will want you to provide a more complete picture, including your idea of your future family and other inhabitants.

Examples of what you can use include what pets you would like to have, possibly with details such as breed and gender, and other home essay titles.

However, you should generally not reveal too many private details and be non-specific about your family. The essay is primarily about yourself, and the family should be described in basic details such as the number of children.

Here are some additional tips for your writing process:

  • When you are writing an essay about your home in school, you will usually want to concentrate on its current state. Discuss your family and possibly contemplate how your neighborhood changed throughout your upbringing.
  • Try to avoid overly concentrating on any one aspect of your dream house at the expense of others. The purpose of the essay is to create a comprehensive picture of your ideal. As such, you want to talk about many different things that will come to your head.
  • The essay is personal and not scholarly, and so you do not have to write in a formal academic style. You are free to separate it by topics and use section titles if you wish, provided the paper is long enough. However, you should still avoid colloquialisms and other non-literary language.
  • Many people will have similar ideas of their ideal living conditions, ones close to the overall societal norm. It is not necessary for everyone to introduce outlandish ideas just to be different from the rest, as the small differences are more important.

  • My House Essay

ffImage

Introduction

There are different types of people living in the world. Some are lucky enough to acquire all the amenities while some are not. Specifically, almost 80% of the population live below the poverty line in India. Only a fortunate few can own a piece of land where they can build a house or buy a flat. As far as myself is concerned, I am blessed enough to be surrounded by four walls and a roof. It is a small but beautiful house that we call home. It is the fruit of my parent’s hard work and sacrifice.

House: A Blessing

In this world of uncertainty, having a house is obviously a blessing. This can only be understood when the people who do not have it are asked about it. This is the only way of realising the blessing of owning a house. A house is not always defined as luxurious if it is filled with all the latest amenities. Only a roof over the head can complete a house if there is happiness filled in it.

But then again, only four walls and a roof always cannot complete a house. It is successfully completed when you are surrounded by your loved ones. The importance and significance of a house must be realised before it is too late. I realised it later. I had started to understand the importance of my house after an incident.

I have grown up with my parents and grandparents and a maid. The maid was from a distant place and she has been staying with us from my childhood days. One thing I noticed was that she did not want to go home. She worked for our house tirelessly. Even when my mother asked her to visit her home she denied every time. This particular thing astonished me. After that, I came to know that she did not have a proper house to live in. She wanted to spend all the time at our house because she was able to access all basic needs like electricity and water. This particular thing made me realise that no house is taken for granted. I am truly blessed to have a house.

I live in a house made by my parents, with my parents and grandparents. My parents built this house for us with a lot of hard work. It has three rooms, one balcony, one kitchen, two bathrooms, and a terrace. The house is open towards the south and very airy. The balcony is large enough where we can spend a lot of time enjoying the beauty of nature. The house is well-equipped with all the basic amenities. The speciality of our house is obviously the balcony. The location of the house is also very good as it is easily accessible from all parts of the city.

My house is also a destination for my friends and relatives. Everyone likes the interior decoration and the set-up of our house. The perfect blend of modern facilities and vintage architecture makes our house so special.

Essay - My House

My mother always said, “The best things in life are free”. I believe that the only thing that really makes a house is the family that lives there. In this essay, I am going to show you why my family means so much to me more than any other thing and why this is the house that I want to live my whole life in.

My father is a carpenter and has worked hard to provide us with the best house, life, and education that we could have asked for. The house my family lives in, is a beautiful three story, ranch style home with a big yard and the perfect views of the surrounding city skyline. The house has one of the largest living areas my family could ever ask for. The house has been built with great workmanship and every room has been planned with the family in mind.

My father used every cent of the money that he earned building this house to provide us the best life. The house has been remodelled many times over the years, as my parents had different ideas on how they wanted it to look. Some of the updates include new flooring, ceilings, and appliances. My mom spends most of her time cleaning the house, doing laundry, and cooking dinner, even though she has been a homemaker all her life. I was lucky enough to be able to spend every summer as a kid helping my father fix the house up.

During the school year, I helped him keep the house clean and I got to spend most of my free time doing what I really love, watching action and comedy movies. I was always impressed with how much work my father had to do to build this house and how proud he was when he finally finished. For the past 12 years, I wanted to be a professional basketball player, and have a lot of fun in the process of being a professional basketball player.

I am a very competitive person and I always wanted to beat my opponents to prove how good I am. During my college years, I would go to practice twice a week and play every single game. My teammates always supported me, and my father always encouraged me to do the best I can. When I had to make a decision of which college I wanted to go to, I chose Duke University because I thought that it would be a better opportunity for me to succeed.

The school is where I got my first opportunity to show the world that I am a professional basketball player. My team, Duke Blue Devils Basketball, had a very successful year as they won the ACC Championship. I made the decision to leave my school, North Carolina because I wanted to live in the city and I have more experience playing in front of a home crowd. I did not play as much as I wanted to, because I was hurt during the first season and had to rest my ankle. My dream was to play in the NBA, and I had the opportunity to get drafted when I was drafted number 14 by the Utah Jazz. I have loved my time at Duke and I am thankful to the coaches and teammates I have had. I am going to leave Duke Basketball with more than my high school teammates because of the opportunities I have had during the years I was there.

The house I live in now is my fourth home. It's my "dream house." It's big, and there's room for everything: books and furniture, clothes, pictures, toys, whatever. It's the perfect house for a three-year-old boy. It's even pretty. My sister bought it when she moved in, and we've added lots of stuff since then. It's a good place to live and it's warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and light-filled in the daytime.

But my house is not a house for me. I'm the oldest of four siblings and I'm usually the last one in my family to find a place. The others have homes already and they're busy taking care of their families. I'm not that busy. I don't have children and I don't really have much in my life. Most of the time I just stay home and read or watch television. And I like it like that.

In addition to reading and watching television, I also like to play games. I play a lot of the video games my sister has bought for me, but I also have many other toys and games of my own. My sister's house is a little crowded with the things I use, but I have room for it in my house. My house has a closet full of shoes and clothes and all the toys my brother has brought home since he was a baby. But my house is not a home.

It's too big and too expensive. A one-bedroom apartment in my neighbourhood is much smaller and much cheaper than my house. Plus, I have a little room in my own closet. I can't take everything with me when I move, just like I can't take all the things in my house with me. I have to decide what stays with me and what goes in my basement. I try to make a list of the things I want to take, but sometimes it's too difficult to decide which things are more important. I'm not sure where my house came from.

My mom bought it, but she's not always been around. We live in a three-story house, and it's hard to find anyone to live in our basement. We can't even make any money renting it out, because people don't even want to visit. I've called my dad once in the last few months, and he said he had no idea where we were, but I know the truth. He's not really my dad.

I wonder if my house was always this way and if my mom would still be my mom if I stayed. She was more, my mom, before I was born, and after I came into her life, my dad started to get more important to her. When she met my dad, she got pregnant again, but my mom and I never got to see him. So my mom went back to her old life, and I thought she would never get to know me. I always wondered if I would have had a different life if I had stayed. I know I'd have wanted a better life for my mom, and I would've wanted a better life for myself, but I had to go and make my dad happy.

I know the decision I have to make was hard for my mom, but my dad's the one who didn't want me, and it's not like he's changed his mind. He still doesn't want me around. I just wish my mom had tried harder, but she did the best she could. It was hard for her to keep trying after he told her no more times.

Conclusion

My house is my temple and my cosy corner at the same time. At the end of a tiring day it is the refuge of our house that we seek so fervently. It is certainly painful to think of people spending days and nights under the open sky but at the same time it fills me with the determination that I must grow up to be successful in eliminating their distress.

The Beginner's Guide to Writing an Essay | Steps & Examples

An academic essay is a focused piece of writing that develops an idea or argument using evidence, analysis, and interpretation.

There are many types of essays you might write as a student. The content and length of an essay depends on your level, subject of study, and course requirements. However, most essays at university level are argumentative — they aim to persuade the reader of a particular position or perspective on a topic.

The essay writing process consists of three main stages:

  • Preparation: Decide on your topic, do your research, and create an essay outline.
  • Writing : Set out your argument in the introduction, develop it with evidence in the main body, and wrap it up with a conclusion.
  • Revision:  Check your essay on the content, organization, grammar, spelling, and formatting of your essay.

The writing process of preparation, writing, and revisions applies to every essay or paper, but the time and effort spent on each stage depends on the type of essay .

For example, if you’ve been assigned a five-paragraph expository essay for a high school class, you’ll probably spend the most time on the writing stage; for a college-level argumentative essay , on the other hand, you’ll need to spend more time researching your topic and developing an original argument before you start writing.

Prevent plagiarism. Run a free check.

Before you start writing, you should make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to say and how you’re going to say it. There are a few key steps you can follow to make sure you’re prepared:

  • Understand your assignment: What is the goal of this essay? What is the length and deadline of the assignment? Is there anything you need to clarify with your teacher or professor?
  • Define a topic: If you’re allowed to choose your own topic , try to pick something that you already know a bit about and that will hold your interest.
  • Do your research: Read  primary and secondary sources and take notes to help you work out your position and angle on the topic. You’ll use these as evidence for your points.
  • Come up with a thesis:  The thesis is the central point or argument that you want to make. A clear thesis is essential for a focused essay—you should keep referring back to it as you write.
  • Create an outline: Map out the rough structure of your essay in an outline . This makes it easier to start writing and keeps you on track as you go.

Once you’ve got a clear idea of what you want to discuss, in what order, and what evidence you’ll use, you’re ready to start writing.

The introduction sets the tone for your essay. It should grab the reader’s interest and inform them of what to expect. The introduction generally comprises 10–20% of the text.

1. Hook your reader

The first sentence of the introduction should pique your reader’s interest and curiosity. This sentence is sometimes called the hook. It might be an intriguing question, a surprising fact, or a bold statement emphasizing the relevance of the topic.

Let’s say we’re writing an essay about the development of Braille (the raised-dot reading and writing system used by visually impaired people). Our hook can make a strong statement about the topic:

The invention of Braille was a major turning point in the history of disability.

2. Provide background on your topic

Next, it’s important to give context that will help your reader understand your argument. This might involve providing background information, giving an overview of important academic work or debates on the topic, and explaining difficult terms. Don’t provide too much detail in the introduction—you can elaborate in the body of your essay.

3. Present the thesis statement

Next, you should formulate your thesis statement— the central argument you’re going to make. The thesis statement provides focus and signals your position on the topic. It is usually one or two sentences long. The thesis statement for our essay on Braille could look like this:

As the first writing system designed for blind people’s needs, Braille was a groundbreaking new accessibility tool. It not only provided practical benefits, but also helped change the cultural status of blindness.

4. Map the structure

In longer essays, you can end the introduction by briefly describing what will be covered in each part of the essay. This guides the reader through your structure and gives a preview of how your argument will develop.

The invention of Braille marked a major turning point in the history of disability. The writing system of raised dots used by blind and visually impaired people was developed by Louis Braille in nineteenth-century France. In a society that did not value disabled people in general, blindness was particularly stigmatized, and lack of access to reading and writing was a significant barrier to social participation. The idea of tactile reading was not entirely new, but existing methods based on sighted systems were difficult to learn and use. As the first writing system designed for blind people’s needs, Braille was a groundbreaking new accessibility tool. It not only provided practical benefits, but also helped change the cultural status of blindness. This essay begins by discussing the situation of blind people in nineteenth-century Europe. It then describes the invention of Braille and the gradual process of its acceptance within blind education. Subsequently, it explores the wide-ranging effects of this invention on blind people’s social and cultural lives.

Write your essay introduction

The body of your essay is where you make arguments supporting your thesis, provide evidence, and develop your ideas. Its purpose is to present, interpret, and analyze the information and sources you have gathered to support your argument.

Length of the body text

The length of the body depends on the type of essay. On average, the body comprises 60–80% of your essay. For a high school essay, this could be just three paragraphs, but for a graduate school essay of 6,000 words, the body could take up 8–10 pages.

Paragraph structure

To give your essay a clear structure , it is important to organize it into paragraphs . Each paragraph should be centered around one main point or idea.

That idea is introduced in a  topic sentence . The topic sentence should generally lead on from the previous paragraph and introduce the point to be made in this paragraph. Transition words can be used to create clear connections between sentences.

After the topic sentence, present evidence such as data, examples, or quotes from relevant sources. Be sure to interpret and explain the evidence, and show how it helps develop your overall argument.

Lack of access to reading and writing put blind people at a serious disadvantage in nineteenth-century society. Text was one of the primary methods through which people engaged with culture, communicated with others, and accessed information; without a well-developed reading system that did not rely on sight, blind people were excluded from social participation (Weygand, 2009). While disabled people in general suffered from discrimination, blindness was widely viewed as the worst disability, and it was commonly believed that blind people were incapable of pursuing a profession or improving themselves through culture (Weygand, 2009). This demonstrates the importance of reading and writing to social status at the time: without access to text, it was considered impossible to fully participate in society. Blind people were excluded from the sighted world, but also entirely dependent on sighted people for information and education.

See the full essay example

The conclusion is the final paragraph of an essay. It should generally take up no more than 10–15% of the text . A strong essay conclusion :

  • Returns to your thesis
  • Ties together your main points
  • Shows why your argument matters

A great conclusion should finish with a memorable or impactful sentence that leaves the reader with a strong final impression.

What not to include in a conclusion

To make your essay’s conclusion as strong as possible, there are a few things you should avoid. The most common mistakes are:

  • Including new arguments or evidence
  • Undermining your arguments (e.g. “This is just one approach of many”)
  • Using concluding phrases like “To sum up…” or “In conclusion…”

Braille paved the way for dramatic cultural changes in the way blind people were treated and the opportunities available to them. Louis Braille’s innovation was to reimagine existing reading systems from a blind perspective, and the success of this invention required sighted teachers to adapt to their students’ reality instead of the other way around. In this sense, Braille helped drive broader social changes in the status of blindness. New accessibility tools provide practical advantages to those who need them, but they can also change the perspectives and attitudes of those who do not.

An essay is a focused piece of writing that explains, argues, describes, or narrates.

In high school, you may have to write many different types of essays to develop your writing skills.

Academic essays at college level are usually argumentative : you develop a clear thesis about your topic and make a case for your position using evidence, analysis and interpretation.

The structure of an essay is divided into an introduction that presents your topic and thesis statement , a body containing your in-depth analysis and arguments, and a conclusion wrapping up your ideas.

The structure of the body is flexible, but you should always spend some time thinking about how you can organize your essay to best serve your ideas.

Your essay introduction should include three main things, in this order:

  • An opening hook to catch the reader’s attention.
  • Relevant background information that the reader needs to know.
  • A thesis statement that presents your main point or argument.

The length of each part depends on the length and complexity of your essay .

A thesis statement is a sentence that sums up the central point of your paper or essay . Everything else you write should relate to this key idea.

The thesis statement is essential in any academic essay or research paper for two main reasons:

  • It gives your writing direction and focus.
  • It gives the reader a concise summary of your main point.

Without a clear thesis statement, an essay can end up rambling and unfocused, leaving your reader unsure of exactly what you want to say.

A topic sentence is a sentence that expresses the main point of a paragraph . Everything else in the paragraph should relate to the topic sentence.

At college level, you must properly cite your sources in all essays , research papers , and other academic texts (except exams and in-class exercises).

Add a citation whenever you quote , paraphrase , or summarize information or ideas from a source. You should also give full source details in a bibliography or reference list at the end of your text.

The exact format of your citations depends on which citation style you are instructed to use. The most common styles are APA , MLA , and Chicago .

  • We have a garden outside our house with beautiful flowers.
  • I love staying in my house.

A longer essay for classes 1 & 2 sets the foundation for writing skills in children by gathering more ideas and including more details. Check out this example of a 10-line essay on My House:

Short paragraph essays are a good place to learn how to write longer essays. Here is an example of a short essay on My House:

Every person needs a house to stay in. I live in a cozy house in the middle of the city with my parents and younger brother. Our house is just one street away from the playground where I go to play cricket. Our house has two bedrooms, one living room, and one kitchen. My brother and I share the same room in the house. Since my house is close to the main road, we find it easy to go from our house to any part of the city. We have a terrace in the house where my brother and I often play. I love my house because it is a great place to live.

Here is an example of a short essay on my house. These essays are the building blocks to learning how to write long essays:

My beautiful house is on the outskirts of the city. We have built our house on a big plot with lots of garden space and greenery to enjoy. My house has three bedrooms and a living room, along with a kitchen and a dining room. All of this is surrounded by a high compound wall on which we grow decorative creepers.

Our house is spacious and also well-lit since we have huge windows in all the living spaces. When we sit for our breakfast every day, we enjoy a wonderful view of the backyard with the lawn and flowers. Different materials such as bricks, cement, tiles, marbles, and wood were used to build the house.

My house is the best place in the world, and my friends love to come here and play with me. We have plenty of space to play all the games and don’t have to go out on the street.

A long descriptive essay about my house can be tricky to write because children need to write creatively after gathering several ideas. However, children can write a good essay by going about it systematically and maintaining the flow. Here is an example of an essay for class 3:

I live in a gorgeous house inside a colony in a small town next to the city. Our house was constructed recently, and we moved in a few months ago. It is a two-storied building with four rooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, terrace, and a basement. We have plenty of space within the compound to build a garden. We have planted many different types of flowering plants and vegetables in our garden.

My room is on the first floor with a big balcony that has a panoramic view. It also enables me to set up my telescope and observe the night sky comfortably. We have a big kitchen with a door that opens to the garden in the back. My parents take their tea on the lawn every evening in the kitchen garden.

My favourite part of my house is our terrace. It is a vast open space on the roof of our house which is nicely decorated for spending leisure time. There is a large swing on the terrace, on which I love to spend my evenings reading my favourite books. Sometimes I also call my friends over, and we play catch on the terrace. At night, the open terrace is breathtaking to look at. I can see all the stars and the moon as well when the skies are clear. I like to lie down and count the stars during such clear nights.

Our house is located in a very friendly and nice locality. There is a small market near my house from where my father brings fruits and vegetables every morning. We also have very good neighbours. They are kind and generous people who are ready to help at any time. I love my new house and all its beautiful features. I enjoy spending time in my house more than anywhere else.

From these examples of compositions on My House, children can gather plenty of ideas on how to write an essay on their own. This essay is also a great opportunity for your children to express their thoughts and feelings about their home. It also helps them observe their house in better detail than ever before, as they write their observations in words.

Our house has a special place in our hearts. It is the place where we feel safe and secure. From the examples above, children can pick up ideas and craft their own compositions on the topic.

There is no place like home, they say. And I couldn’t agree more. For me, my house is not just a physical structure with walls and doors; it’s a place where I feel safe, comfortable and loved. It’s a place that holds countless memories of my childhood and family.

My house is located in the suburbs of a small town in the countryside. It’s a modest two-story house with a spacious front porch, surrounded by a beautiful garden filled with flowers and fruit trees. As soon as you enter the gate, you’re greeted by the sweet smell of jasmine flowers that line up the pathway to the house.

Upon entering the front door, you’ll step into our living room. It’s a warm and cozy space, with soft lighting and comfortable furniture. The walls are adorned with family photos and paintings that my parents have collected over the years. This is where we gather as a family to watch TV, play board games or simply chat about our days.

Next to the living room is the dining area, where we have our meals together. Our dining table has been in the family for generations, and it holds many memories of laughter and love shared during meal times. The kitchen is my mom’s domain. She loves to cook, and her food always brings us comfort and joy. The kitchen is always filled with the smell of delicious food and the sound of my mom humming while she cooks. It’s a place where we gather to help her prepare meals, and bond over cooking.

My favorite part of the house is the backyard. It’s like a mini paradise with a large open space for us to play or relax on sunny days. There’s also a small pond where we keep  fish that my dad takes care of. The sound of the water and the sight of colorful fish swimming around bring a sense of peace and tranquility.

My Surrounding Essay:

As humans, we are constantly surrounded by our environment, whether it be nature or man-made structures. Our surroundings have a significant impact on our daily lives and shape our thoughts, behaviors, and overall well-being.

Nature plays a crucial role in providing us with resources for survival. It offers us breathtaking landscapes that amaze and inspire us. The tranquil sounds of waves crashing on the shore or birds chirping in the trees can have a calming effect on our minds. Additionally, being in nature has been proven to reduce stress levels and improve mental health.

On the other hand, man-made structures dominate many urban areas and contribute to the fast-paced lifestyle of modern society. We are exposed to constant sensory stimulation from advertisements, bright lights, and traffic noises. While this can be overwhelming at times, it also creates a sense of diversity and excitement.

Our surroundings also influence our cultural identity. Being exposed to different cultures and ways of life helps us understand and appreciate diversity. It broadens our perspectives and allows us to see the world through a different lens.

Moreover, our surroundings mold our daily routines as well. For instance, living in a city may mean taking public transportation or walking to work while living in the countryside may involve tending to a farm or taking care of livestock.

In conclusion, our surroundings have a profound impact on us physically, mentally, and emotionally. They shape who we are as individuals and play a significant role in our overall quality of life. It is essential that we take care of our surroundings and appreciate the beauty and diversity it has to offer.

Why I Love My Home Essay:

My home is my safe haven, a place where I can truly be myself and feel at peace. It is where I have grown up and made so many cherished memories with my family. From the moment I step through the front door, I am surrounded by comfort and familiarity.

One of the main reasons why I love my home is because of the people who reside in it. My parents, siblings, and even our pets make this house feel like a warm and loving home. We share laughter, meals, and conversations here that bring us closer together as a family.

Not only does my home provide a sense of security and belonging, but it also offers opportunities for personal growth. It is within these walls that I have learned valuable life lessons from my parents, developed my interests and hobbies, and created a sense of independence.

Moreover, my home is a reflection of who I am. The decor, furniture, and personal touches all represent my unique style and personality. It is a constant reminder that this space is truly mine and a place where I can express myself freely.

In 200 words, it’s impossible to fully capture the love and appreciation I have for my home. It serves as a sanctuary from the outside world and holds a special place in my heart. It may not be the largest or most glamorous house, but it will always be my favorite place in the world. Home truly is where the heart is.

My home is my sanctuary, a place where I feel safe and loved. It is a place that holds precious memories of my childhood and continues to be the center of my life today. In just 250 words, it’s impossible to fully describe the depth of emotions that I have for my home.

As soon as I step inside, a sense of peace washes over me. The familiar scent of homemade meals wafts through the air, reminding me of all the special dinners shared with my family. The walls are adorned with pictures and artwork that tell our story – from family vacations to school achievements. Each room in our house has its own unique atmosphere, yet it all comes together beautifully to create a warm and inviting space.

Growing up, my home was always bustling with activity. My siblings and I would race to the front door after school, eager to share stories of our day with our parents. We would spend hours playing games in the living room or baking treats in the kitchen. Even now, as an adult, I still find myself gravitating towards my childhood bedroom when I need a moment of comfort.

But beyond the physical aspects, it’s the intangible qualities that truly make my home special. It’s where I have learned valuable life lessons from my parents and grandparents. It’s where we gather for holidays and celebrate milestones together as a family. It’s where I can be completely myself without fear of judgement.

In today’s fast-paced world, my home is a place where time slows down. It’s a place where I can disconnect from technology and just be present with my loved ones. No matter where life takes me, I know that my home will always be there to welcome me back with open arms.

In conclusion, my home is not just a building but a reflection of who I am and the love that surrounds me. It continues to shape me into the person I am today and I will forever be grateful for its unwavering presence in my life.

Short Essay on there is no Place Like Home:

There is no denying the fact that home is an essential part of our lives. It is a place where we feel comfortable, safe and loved. Home, for most people, is not just a physical structure but also holds sentimental value. It is often said that there is no place like home and this statement holds true in every sense.

Home is not limited to just being a place to live in but it also holds a significant emotional attachment. It is where we create countless memories with our loved ones and share moments that shape us into who we are. Whether it’s playing in the backyard as children or sitting around the dinner table with family, these memories hold a special place in our hearts.

Furthermore, home provides us with a sense of belonging and identity. It reflects our personal style, interests and values. We often decorate our homes to showcase our individuality and make it our own unique space. Home also serves as a sanctuary from the outside world where we can truly be ourselves without any judgment.

Moreover, home is a place of comfort and safety. In times of stress or trouble, there is no better feeling than being in the familiar surroundings of home. It is where we seek refuge and find solace in the company of our loved ones. Home also provides us with a sense of security knowing that we have a place to call our own.

In today’s fast-paced world, where life can get chaotic at times, home serves as an anchor that keeps us grounded. It reminds us of what truly matters in life and helps us appreciate the little things. It is a constant in our lives, a place where we can always return to no matter how far we may wander.

In conclusion, there is no place like home. It holds immense emotional value and provides us with a sense of belonging, comfort, and stability. No matter where life takes us, home will always be the one place that remains constant and unchanged. As Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz famously said, “There’s no place like home.”

Describe Your Childhood Home Essay:

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have a loving and caring family who provided me with a stable home environment. Our house was located in a quaint suburban neighborhood, surrounded by lush green trees and well-manicured lawns. From the outside, it may have seemed like just another ordinary house on the block, but for me, it held countless memories and special moments that I will always cherish.

As you entered our front door, you would first step into our cozy living room. The walls were painted in a warm shade of yellow and adorned with family photos and artwork done by my siblings and me. In the corner sat a big soft couch where we would all gather to watch movies or play board games on lazy Sunday afternoons.

Next to the living room was our dining area, where we would come together as a family for meals. The scent of my mother’s home-cooked food always filled the air, making it feel like a warm hug every time I walked into the kitchen. We would often have lively conversations and share funny stories over dinner, creating cherished memories that I still hold dear.

Down the hallway were our bedrooms – mine on one end and my siblings’ on the other. They were small but cozy, with just enough space for our beds and personal belongings.

My room was painted in a calming shade of blue, and I had posters of my favorite bands and artwork plastered all over the walls. It was my little sanctuary where I could escape from the world and let my creativity roam freely.

The backyard was where we spent most of our time during the summer. It had a big oak tree that provided shade, and we would often have picnics or play games under it. Behind the tree was a garden that my mother tended to, filled with colorful flowers and fresh herbs that she would use in her cooking. It was also where I learned how to ride a bike and had countless adventures with my siblings.

Looking back, I realize how lucky I was to grow up in such a warm and loving home. Our house may not have been grand or luxurious, but it was filled with love, laughter, and happy memories that made it feel like the best place on earth.

As I reflect on my childhood home, I am reminded of the importance of having a safe and nurturing environment to grow up in. It shaped me into the person I am today, and for that, I will always be grateful.

So whenever I pass by my childhood home, I can’t help but smile and feel a sense of warmth and nostalgia wash over me. Stories like these are reminders that our homes are not just buildings made of bricks and mortar, but they hold a special place in our hearts forever.

Whether it is the cozy living room where we gathered as a family or the backyard where we made countless memories, every nook and corner of our childhood home holds a piece of our heart. And even though time may have passed and we may have moved on to create new homes, the memories and feelings attached to our childhood home will always remain a constant in our lives.

Everyone should dream about their dream house and should achieve it. Food, clothing, and a place to live are considered to be every person's three basic needs. My Dream House Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

I frequently visualise my future house. In a house, one is surrounded by the people one cherishes. The people that reside there make a house lovely, not the furnishings or decorations. When I become older, my dream house should be one I can live in with my family. I frequently envision a wooden home in a steep place. My dream house would be situated near a small, rushing river. I could see the sun setting and vanishing behind the mountains through the windows. My dream house would include a small garden to grow fruits and veggies. I will decorate my dream house with plants, paintings, and beautiful art.

My dream house will be situated on the seaside. I can see the sun setting and vanishing behind the sea through the windows. My dream home would include a small garden to grow fruits and veggies . My dream house would have four rooms, a sizable common area, and be rather large. My dream house should be cosy for my siblings, parents, and grandparents. In my dream house, all of the contemporary conveniences should be up there. It should have a large TV, a home theatre system, and a playstation.

The house will have light-coloured walls that will give the impression that it is bright. Every room will have enough lamps and light bulbs. In my dreams, the guest room will have a chandelier and a large sofa where everyone can enjoy watching TV together. My grandparents enjoy books. I hope the reading room in my ideal home has an extensive collection of books.

I also want to provide my dog with a quiet, cosy area in my home where he may rest and unwind. The house will have a lovely interior design and all the amenities, including an updated kitchen, three bathrooms, a stairway leading to a terrace, air conditioning units, etc. The place where we can all live happily and comfortably is my dream house.

My dream house would be a large home surrounded by a garden with trees and flowers. It will be a place where I may find true peace and contentment outside the city, on the outskirts of town. Therefore, the elements of my ideal home should reflect who I am in terms of both location and interior and exterior design.

The sounds of nature have always captivated me. In this regard, I picture my home built in the countryside near a river. It would be situated such that I could access clean air and water. Additionally, I want to stay close to a major city's core, so I can quickly go for office work when necessary.

Location | In actuality, the central aspect of the location of my dream house would be near serenity and harmony along with nature. My house would have a long driveway with a concrete circle around it. Around my house, I would have numerous flower beds filled with colourful flowers. I likewise dream of having a patio that encircled my 4,500 square foot house on both the front and the back. My house would have gorgeous bright blue, orange, yellow, and green outside walls with some Mexican fabrics framing all of the windows and doors.

Backyard | I would adore having a family gym, ball court, small cricket ground, Jacuzzi, and in-ground pool in the backyard. A small bar in my swimming pool would be ideal, especially during the summer. Eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, two dining rooms, a kitchen, a library, a playroom, and an office would make up the interior of my house. My bedrooms would be furnished with rustic pieces, vivid bedding, and coordinating drapes and rugs. There would also be a massive, roomy walk-in closet in each bedroom. There should be indoor sports games in the backyard like table tennis, carrom, and ludo.

Bathrooms | In all ten bathrooms, Mexican wall art would be installed, and Mexican tiled countertops would surround my tub, sink, and shower. Additionally, I would want a sizable closet and plenty of cabinet space in each bathroom for storage. My living room would be practically the largest room in my house to accommodate a large family. A large flat-screen TV mounted on the wall, a fireplace, and theatre-style surround sound would all be necessities. Tables and room for about 20 people would need to be included in the two dining areas.

Kitchen | The largest room in my ideal home would be the kitchen. All of my kitchen appliances should be metal and coordinated. My kitchen would have a large island in the middle, where one of my stoves would be situated, and I would make food for my family and friends.

House is the best place, which gives us the feeling of love, affection, and security. It is the place where we feel most relaxed and free. Having your own house means you can sleep without any hesitation. I dream of having my own house someday which will be big enough for my whole family. I would also love to entertain my friends and relatives during holidays and festivities in my house.

It is usually said that food, clothing, and house are three essential commodities for any person. Usually, we observe that every person struggles for attaining these three aspects and later on fulfills other desires. If we have a house to live, brings a feeling of complete satisfaction to our minds.

Description of My House

My house has been constructed in my village area. It happened that during my father’s service we had been living in an apartment provided by the government. But after the service period was over, my parents decided to move to our village to reside there only, as it is a peaceful place. We already had our house in my village.

Attributes – We have five rooms, a kitchen, a washroom, and a big veranda. We also have a small hut there. During summers it proves to be the best dwelling place. The size of the house is larger as compared to the houses in cities. My house is surrounded by lush green fields. It provided us with a sense of beauty. There is a very low pollution level in the village as compared to the city. In spite of having my house in the village, it is equipped with each and every facility. My father used this space for gardening and making small shelter spaces for animals like cows and dogs. A little construction work was also required for the same. We arranged food and water for animals and birds over there. These activities and my family made my house a most adorable place to live. This area is one of my favorite portions of the whole house.

Essay 3 (500 – 600 Words) – My Dream House

Houses are the structures built by human beings for dwelling. There are different kinds of houses constructed according to the climatic conditions and availability of space. Houses can be apartments, single-family houses, bungalows, cabins, etc. It depends upon the needs and financial availability of people.

Concept of House

The need for shelter has been observed from an early age. The early men used to live in caves for shelter and protection. Since life was unorganized and non-systematic during that period. The scenario started changing as the need of man started increasing. It was the necessity only which gave rise to such advancements. People need houses to live with their family members.

The construction of a house must be done in a sensible way either it is a smaller or larger one. The creation of a house depends upon needs and imagination. Thus we can see that renovation in the structuring of the house goes on according to the requirements.

I am living in a 1 BHK flat in Delhi, along with my family members. There are four members in my family. Since we are living in a metro city, we get small houses in large rents. We live in a small house not fitting according to the family requirements but the care and affection of family never made us realize the space. There is only one bedroom so we two children have accommodated ourselves in the living area.

We have a proper kitchen, washroom, and a small balcony too. Our house is painted and remains clean always. We do not have much space but it is enough for our small family. We have a park in front of our apartment, which provides a good view. We also have a roof and sometimes we go there for getting good air. I have a small home, but it is properly managed and I love my place.

There is a lot of problem in metro cities if a person is having a larger family. The big flats are costly and thus people are compelled to live in small areas and are more prone to health-related problems due to poor housing.

A Vision of My Dream House

I wish for my own house in the future, as we are living in a small house. I wish for my dream house to live with my parents and sisters. According to me, house should be equipped with all facilities like proper washrooms, kitchens, and airy rooms. I never dream of a big house, instead of a place which gives me the feeling of happiness and security and affinity. I am enlisting the features of my dream house.

  • Good Ventilation and Spaces – My house would have proper ventilation and there must be spaces all around the house. This will help in making the house airy and lively too.
  • Space for Garden – My house would have space for gardening, as plants help in air purification and provide a good look.

  • Lively Rooms – My house will consist of lively rooms, by painting them with different shades of colours. I want a reading place to be built in my house.
  • Water Harvesting System – My house would have the water harvesting system to collect the rainwater of the roof and save it from wastage.

My House Essay

English essay on my house, 150 words on my house essay.

I live in a very beautiful house. My home is a place where I feel safe and secure, and I want to spend as much time as possible there.

There are three bedrooms, one dining room, a kitchen, and toilets in my home. In front of the home, there is a huge compound where we have planted flower plants. We sowed seeds for vegetables in the backyard. My house is very airy and well lighted.

My home is made of bricks, wood, tiles, and marble. The floor is fully made of marbles. Each of the bedrooms is large, airy, and well-lit. Toilets are big and attached to a shower. Our dining hall is beautifully decorated. The kitchen is open, and we can enjoy the scenery of the backyard from there.

My home is really pleasing and beautiful, but my family members bring still more charm and elegance to it. I love my house very much.

Mobile Phones - A Necessity or Fashion

Mobile Phones – A Necessity or Fashion

Gen Z wants student loan forgiveness without any accountability. It doesn't work that way.

Blanket cancellation does nothing to combat the problem of the student loan crisis. it would only serve as a further incentive for students to attend colleges they can’t afford..

My generation has a political problem. We gravitate toward quick fixes for massive problems that plague our country. The generation raised on instant gratification, to little surprise, is looking for the same in politics and government.

On no other issue is this more apparent than the student loan crisis. Rather than targeting the root of the problem of federally subsidized student loans, President Joe Biden has instead pushed forward the Band-Aid fix of blanket student debt cancellation in order to score a cheap political win with America's youth.

On the 2020 campaign trail, candidate Biden championed his plan to "immediately cancel a minimum of $10,000 of student debt per person." That empty promise appears to have worked the first time around, as he captured 65% of the Gen Z vote , compared with Trump’s 31%.

So is it any surprise that Biden's promise to eliminate student debt went on to be one of his administration's major policy moves? That might be why 77% of voters ages 18-29 said student debt relief was a motivating factor for their turnout in the midterm elections.

Gen Z's support for Biden's student debt plan is maddening

On the issue of student loans, Gen Z broadly favors blanket debt cancellation similar to Biden’s proposed plan. Almost 60% of those born in 1997 or later support the plan that has since been struck down by the Supreme Court , compared with just 46% of all voters in swing states.

Maddeningly enough, that same Bloomberg News/Morning Consult survey reveals Gen Z is far less literate on the details of the plan than other generations, with 42% reporting they had heard “not much” or “not at all” of the plan, compared with just 30% of all other voters in swing states.

Why I'm not voting: I'm not voting for Trump or Biden. You want my vote? Choose better candidates.

I struggle to come up with a term to describe my generation on this issue besides “entitled.” Not only are we broadly in favor of other people paying off our debts, a majority of whom do not hold a bachelor's degree or higher, we don’t even have the decency to be more aware of the issue than generations that are more likely to have already paid off their loans.

A sobering truth for young Americans needs to be heard. You do not have the right to demand other people pay off your poor financial decisions.

Gen Z should push Congress to find a long-term solution

Biden’s plan was not only unwise but also unconstitutional at its core, as highlighted by the Supreme Court when it struck down the plan last June . While I think this course of action is unwise and immoral, Gen Z has a better chance of accomplishing debt relief through Congress, which is responsible for the power of the purse.

Gen Z isn't going away: Don't believe the narrative that Gen Z will vote Biden. My generation is up for grabs.

Blanket cancellation does nothing to combat the problem of the student loan crisis. In fact, it would only serve as a further incentive for students to attend colleges they can’t afford, obtaining degrees that give them little chance of allowing them to pay off the debt they accrued in the process.

Congressional efforts are much better geared toward legislation curtailing the federal student lending programs that have gotten us into this mess in the first place.

The problem is federal involvement in student loans

Our government’s involvement in the student debt crisis is clearly unacceptable. Federal lending programs now offer aid to the vast majority of students.

A 2017 study from the Federal Reserve indicates that for every dollar of federal student loans an institution receives, it's able to raise the cost of attendance by 60 cents.

In a time when 37% of graduates report being unable to afford their monthly loan repayment , a short-term fix like cancellation will do nothing to prevent future generations from suffering the same fate. Young voters should look to other methods to sway their vote for actual change on the issue, not false promises attempting to bribe them.

Gen Z should concentrate our efforts on voting for candidates who promise actual change on the issue, or better yet, take personal responsibility for financial decisions. Understanding your financial decision in attending college, rather than blaming politicians for not stealing other people’s money to pay your debt, is a much better use of your time and will lead to better results for your future.

No glasses? No problem. Three cool ways to safely view the eclipse.

‘pinhole projectors’ will do the trick. so will plants in your backyard..

The April 8 total solar eclipse is finally here — and it’s sure to amaze and delight the millions who see it.

Everyone in the Lower 48 states will be able to view at least a partial solar eclipse, assuming cloud-free skies .

To savor the eclipse, you don’t need special equipment. Even if you can’t get your hands on eclipse glasses , there are old school, low-tech ways to see it. If you’re crafty and canny, the eclipse can still be a memorable experience.

2024 total solar eclipse

my home essay easy

Safety first

The first rule of enjoying the eclipse is to avoid looking directly at the sun without eye protection. Even brief glances can cause permanent damage.

The only exception to this rule is for lucky spectators in the path of totality during the few minutes of the total eclipse, when the sun is fully blocked by the moon.

For those witnessing the partial solar eclipse, even when most of the sun’s surface is blocked, the remaining, visible crescent is still intensely bright and cannot be safely viewed without eye protection.

But, if you don’t have eye protection, here are some safe ways to experience the partial eclipse through indirect means:

Make a pinhole projector

A way around looking directly the sun is to make your own eclipse projector using a cereal box. It’s a safe and terrific way to capture the eclipse action.

Clear the kitchen table and find the craft scissors. In addition to the cereal box, you’ll need a piece of aluminum foil, tape and a small nail or pushpin.

First, eat your Froot Loops — or whatever toasted grain you prefer — and keep the box. On a white piece of paper or white cardboard, trace the bottom of the box. Then, clip out the traced rectangle from the paper and put it in the bottom of the opened box. That’s your screen that images of the eclipse will project onto.

Cut out two squares (1.5 inches should suffice) on the lid of the box and then tape the lid back together. For one square, cover the hole in foil and tape it down. Gently put a pushpin or small nail hole through it, as that is the lens that the sun’s light will pass through. The smaller the hole, the sharper the projected image.

When using your personal box theater, turn away from the sun — and let the sun’s rays shine through the tiny pin hole. Look through the other hole in the lid to see the eclipse action — during the eclipse you’ll see the moon biting a chunk from the sun.

Other kinds of small boxes — such as shoe boxes or small package boxes — work well, too. And your kids can decorate them for fun.

Looking to the trees

If you’re not inclined to make a projector box, you can also view the partial phases of the eclipse in the shadows of trees and plants.

The small gaps in between leaves, branches and pine needles act as miniature projectors. When light passes through, a small image of the sun is cast onto the ground. As the partial eclipse progresses, you’ll see the small circles evolve into sickle-shaped crescents, eventually waning to a sliver.

You may consider holding a white piece of paper or poster board beneath a tree or plant to make it easier to spot the shadows.

Gadgets and fingers

Leaves aren’t special — they just happen to be good at producing tiny projections. But realistically, any hole that’s about a quarter inch wide, give or take, will do the trick. That means you could even parade around outside with your pasta colander, cheese grater or serving spoon with holes in it and look at its shadow. Place white paper or poster board on the ground to see the projection more clearly.

You could also just hold your fingers out and crisscross them to make for half a dozen or so small openings between. Just extend your fingers on both hands as if you’re trying to make a W , and then overlap them.

Simple, yet elegant.

A total solar eclipse passed across the United States on Monday, April 8. See photos and videos from the path of totality and read our reporters’ coverage from scenes across the nation .

Looking ahead: Missed this one? The next eclipse visible in the United States won’t be until 2044 — and then we’ll see another shortly after in 2045. If you did watch this eclipse but without proper eyewear, here’s what to do if your eyes hurt .

The science: This eclipse appeared especially dramatic because the sun was at its most active period in two decades. In the past, solar eclipses have helped scientists learn more about the universe . Here’s everything else to know about the solar eclipse.

Can’t Find Eclipse Glasses? Here’s What to Do.

You can watch a projection of the eclipse using some common household items.

Two people kneel near an open cardboard box that they’ve fashioned into a projector for viewing an eclipse.

By Katrina Miller

Follow our live updates on the total solar eclipse .

Reliable paper-framed glasses are by far the most popular option for safely watching the total solar eclipse on Monday. But they’ve gotten more difficult to find in some places ahead of the event.

If you’ve checked everywhere — your local planetarium, public library and even online — fear not: There is still a way to watch the eclipse safely, using items around the house. Here are a few options.

Use your hands

Palms up, position one hand over the other at a 90-degree angle. Open your fingers slightly in a waffle pattern, and allow sunlight to stream through the spaces onto the ground, or another surface. During the eclipse, you will see a projection of the moon obscuring the surface of the sun.

This method works with anything with holes, such as a straw hat, a strainer, a cheese grater or even a perforated spoon. You will also notice this effect when light from the partially eclipsed sun streams through leaves on a tree.

Set up a cardstock screen

For this option, you need a couple of white index cards or two sheets of cardstock paper. First, punch a small hole in the middle of one of the cards using a thumbtack or a pin.

Then, facing away from the sun, allow light to stream through this pinhole. Position the second card underneath to function as a screen. Adjust the spacing between the two cards to make the projection of the sun larger or smaller.

Make a box projector

If you’re up for a bit of crafting, you can make a more sophisticated pinhole projector . Start with a cardboard box — empty cereal boxes are often used, but you can use a larger box, too. You’ll also need scissors, white paper, tape, aluminum foil and a pin or thumbtack.

Cut the piece of paper to fit the inside bottom of the cardboard box to act as a screen. Use tape to hold it in place.

On the top of the box, cut two rectangular holes on either side. (The middle should be left intact — you can use tape to secure this if needed.)

Tape a piece of aluminum foil over one of the rectangular cutouts. Punch a tiny hole in the middle of the foil with the tack or pin. The other cutout will serve as a view hole.

With your back to the sun, position the foil side of the box over your shoulder, letting light stream through the pinhole. An image of the sun will project onto the screen at the bottom of the box, which you can see through the view hole. A bigger box will create a bigger image.

Enjoy the show through any of these makeshift pinholes. And remember, during totality, you can view the sun directly with your naked eye. But you should stop looking at the sun as soon as it reappears.

How to make a handmade solar eclipse view box if you can't find glasses

Homemade pinhole eclipse viewers an alternative to fancy glasses for viewing solar eclipse on april 8. only a sliver of michigan will be in the path of totality, when moon completely covers the sun..

my home essay easy

Eclipses, like the total solar eclipse coming up today , are some of the sky's most spectacular shows. And there are multiple ways to view them safely.

It could be too late to find solar eclipse glasses at the last minute, though there are a few places you could try, such as retail stores and local libraries . But in the event that you don't have eclipse glasses, we have another idea for you: Your own eclipse viewer.

It takes a little creativity and a handful to household supplies to make your own pinhole box or pinhole projector, also known as a pinhole camera. Here's what to know about building your own eclipse viewer.

How to build your own eclipse viewer

One method simply involves two sheets of sturdy white paper, a cereal box and another sheet of paper. The other supplies you need: tape and aluminum foil, scissors, and a pin or thumbtack.

Here's how to make a pinhole viewer with a cereal box:

  • Trace a piece of white paper along the bottom of the box, making sure it will fit the bottom of the box, and tape or glue it into place it inside the box.
  • Seal the top of the box, then cut rectangular holes on the right and left sides of the top of the box.
  • Cut a piece of aluminum foil to cover the top left hole and tape in place. Make sure the foil is flat and not crinkled.
  • Poke a pinhole in the center of the foil.
  • During the eclipse, stand with the sun behind you, and look into the right hole at the top of the box and watch a projection of the eclipsed sun on the paper inside.

Here's another do-it-yourself option:

  • Cut a 1- to 2-inch rectangular hole in a white sheet of cardstock — paper that is sturdier than regular paper and thinner than cardboard (the kind used for business cards and postcards). A paper plate will do as well. Place a smooth piece of aluminum foil over the hole.
  • Flip the paper over, and use a pin or thumbtack to poke a small hole in the foil.
  • During the eclipse, place a second piece of cardstock, or paper plate, on the ground, and hold the piece with the aluminum foil above the paper, making sure the foil is facing up. Stand with the sun behind you and view the projected image on the cardstock. The farther apart the sheets of cardstock are from each other, the bigger the projected image will be.
  • You can also try putting the bottom piece of cardstock in a shadowed area, while holding the other piece in the sunlight.

Other ideas: Poke several holes in the foil to make shapes, patterns or other designs. Use various household items that have multiple small holes, such as a colander or steamer, and view the patterns they create, but make sure your back is to the sun.

And don't forget to grab a helper to take photos of your designs.

These projectors are known as pinhole cameras because the small hole you made acts like a tiny camera lens. Light from the sun enters the pinhole (or colander), gets focused and then projected to the other side of the hole. When the projected light reaches the surface, like the second sheet of cardstock, you can see the image that passed through the pinhole.

Don't forget: it's not safe to look directly at the sun during the eclipse , and sunglasses don't provide protection. If you're using special glasses, make sure they meet the ISO standard 12312-2. NASA does not endorse specific eyewear for viewing the eclipse.
