nursing research and practice journal

The set of journals have been ranked according to their SJR and divided into four equal groups, four quartiles. Q1 (green) comprises the quarter of the journals with the highest values, Q2 (yellow) the second highest values, Q3 (orange) the third highest values and Q4 (red) the lowest values.

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.

Evolution of the number of published documents. All types of documents are considered, including citable and non citable documents.

This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal. The chart shows the evolution of the average number of times documents published in a journal in the past two, three and four years have been cited in the current year. The two years line is equivalent to journal impact factor ™ (Thomson Reuters) metric.

Evolution of the total number of citations and journal's self-citations received by a journal's published documents during the three previous years. Journal Self-citation is defined as the number of citation from a journal citing article to articles published by the same journal.

Evolution of the number of total citation per document and external citation per document (i.e. journal self-citations removed) received by a journal's published documents during the three previous years. External citations are calculated by subtracting the number of self-citations from the total number of citations received by the journal’s documents.

International Collaboration accounts for the articles that have been produced by researchers from several countries. The chart shows the ratio of a journal's documents signed by researchers from more than one country; that is including more than one country address.

Not every article in a journal is considered primary research and therefore "citable", this chart shows the ratio of a journal's articles including substantial research (research articles, conference papers and reviews) in three year windows vs. those documents other than research articles, reviews and conference papers.

Ratio of a journal's items, grouped in three years windows, that have been cited at least once vs. those not cited during the following year.

Principles of Research and Evidence-Based Practice

Discuss the principles of research and evidence-based practice and how to effectively implement them for advanced practice nurses.

500 words, APA format, 2 academic citations

principles of research and evidence-based practice

Research and evidence-based practice (EBP) are fundamental components of advanced nursing practice, providing a framework for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Advanced practice nurses (APNs) play a crucial role in integrating research findings into clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and enhance healthcare delivery. Understanding the principles of research and EBP is essential for APNs to effectively implement evidence-based care strategies.

The principles of research involve the systematic investigation of phenomena to generate new knowledge and contribute to the advancement of healthcare. APNs should be familiar with various research methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches, to critically appraise existing evidence and conduct research when necessary. By understanding research principles, APNs can evaluate the validity, reliability, and relevance of research findings to inform clinical decision-making.

Evidence-based practice, on the other hand, involves integrating the best available evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences to guide healthcare decisions. EBP emphasizes the use of current, credible research evidence to inform clinical practice and improve patient outcomes. APNs should engage in a cyclical process of EBP, which includes asking clinical questions, searching for evidence, critically appraising evidence, integrating evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences, and evaluating the outcomes of practice changes.

To effectively implement research and EBP principles, APNs can follow several strategies:

  • Stay updated with current evidence: APNs should regularly review and critically appraise the latest research literature relevant to their practice areas. Subscribing to reputable journals, attending conferences, and participating in continuing education programs can help APNs stay informed about advancements in healthcare research.
  • Utilize clinical practice guidelines: Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines provide summaries of the best available evidence for specific clinical conditions or interventions. APNs can use these guidelines to inform their practice decisions and ensure standardized, evidence-based care delivery.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: Collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, and allied health professionals, facilitates the integration of diverse perspectives and expertise into clinical decision-making. Interdisciplinary teamwork promotes the adoption of evidence-based practices and enhances patient care outcomes.
  • Engage in lifelong learning: Continuous professional development is essential for APNs to enhance their knowledge and skills in research and EBP. Pursuing advanced degrees, certifications, and specialized training programs can equip APNs with the competencies needed to critically appraise research evidence and effectively implement evidence-based care strategies.
  • Promote a culture of EBP: APNs can advocate for the integration of EBP principles within their healthcare organizations by serving as role models, educating colleagues about the importance of evidence-based practice, and facilitating organizational initiatives to promote EBP implementation.

In conclusion, understanding the principles of research and evidence-based practice is essential for advanced practice nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. By staying updated with current evidence, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, engaging in lifelong learning, and promoting a culture of EBP, APNs can effectively implement evidence-based care strategies to improve patient outcomes and enhance healthcare delivery.
