‘మహానటి’తో తెలుగువారికి చేరువైన మలయాళీ నటుడు దుల్కర్‌ సల్మాన్‌. తరచూ విభిన్నమైన కథలు ఎంచుకుంటూ నటుడిగా సాహసాలు చేస్తుంటారాయన. ‘హే సినామిక’ వంటి ఫీల్‌గుడ్‌ మూవీ తర్వాత ఆయన ఎంచుకున్న సీరియస్‌ కథా చిత్రం ‘సెల్యూట్‌’. పోలీస్‌ ప్రొసీడరల్‌ థ్రిల్లర్‌గా తెరకెక్కిన ఈ సినిమా శుక్రవారం సోనీలివ్‌ వేదికగా ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చింది. మరి, ఇంతకీ ఈ సినిమా ఎలా ఉంది? పోలీస్‌ పాత్రలో దుల్కర్‌ మెప్పించాడా?

కథేంటంటే: అరవింద్‌ కరుణాకర్‌ (దుల్కర్‌ సల్మాన్) మల్కాజ్‌గిరి పోలీస్‌స్టేషన్‌లో ఎస్సై. అన్న అజిత్‌ కరుణాకర్‌ (మనోజ్‌ కె.జయన్‌) డీఎస్పీ కావడంతో అతడి స్ఫూర్తితోనే అరవింద్‌ కూడా పోలీస్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ అవుతాడు. మల్కాజ్‌గిరిలో దంపతులు దారుణహత్యకు గురవుతారు. రాజకీయ నాయకులు, ఉన్నతాధికారుల నుంచి ఒత్తిడి భరించలేక ఆటోడ్రైవర్‌ మురళిని ఈ కేసులో ఇరికించి, పోలీసులే సాక్ష్యాలు సృష్టించి అతడిని జైలుకు పంపుతారు. ఈ ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్‌ టీమ్‌లో అరవింద్‌ కూడా భాగమవుతాడు. అయితే, మురళికి జరిగిన అన్యాయాన్ని జీర్ణించుకోలేక తన ఉద్యోగానికి దీర్ఘకాలం సెలవు పెడతాడు. ఇంతకీ ఈ హత్యలు చేసింది ఎవరు? సెలవుపై వెళ్లిన అరవింద్‌ మళ్లీ విధుల్లోకి రావడానికి కారణం ఏంటి? హంతకుడిని పట్టుకునేందుకు అరవింద్‌ చేసిన ప్రయత్నాలు ఏంటి? తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.

ఎలా ఉందంటే: సాధారణంగా క్రైమ్‌ థ్రిల్లర్‌ కథలు ఏదో ఒక హత్య చుట్టూ తిరుగుతాయి. ఆధారాలు లేని ఒక హత్య కేసును కథానాయకుడు ఎలా ఛేదించాడన్న ఉత్కంఠ కథ, కథనాలతో ఆ సినిమాలు సాగుతాయి. ‘సెల్యూట్‌’ ఆ కోవకే వచ్చినా కాస్త భిన్నమైన కథాంశం. ఒక హత్య జరిగిన తర్వాత పోలీసులు ఆ కేసు విచారణ ఎలా చేస్తారు? రాజకీయ నాయకులు, ఉన్నతాధికారుల నుంచి కిందిస్థాయి సిబ్బందిపై ఒత్తిళ్లు ఎలా ఉంటాయి? అలాంటి సమయంలో కేసును క్లోజ్‌ చేసేందుకు పోలీసులు అనుసరించే విధానాలేంటి? ఇలా ఒక్కో అంశాన్ని సవివరంగా చర్చించే క్రమంలో అసలు పాయింట్‌ పక్కకు వెళ్లిపోయి, కథనం నత్తనడకన సాగుతుందన్న  విషయాన్ని దర్శకుడు మర్చిపోయాడు.

ప్రథమార్ధంలో ఎక్కువ భాగం దంపతుల హత్య కేసును ఆటో డ్రైవర్‌ మురళిపై నెట్టడానికి పోలీసులు ఎలా ఆధారాలు తయారు చేశారన్న దాని చుట్టూనే తిరుగుతుంది. అమాయకుడిని కేసులో ఇరికించడాన్ని తట్టుకోలేని అరవింద్‌ సెలవుపై వెళ్లడం, ఆ తర్వాత వచ్చే సన్నివేశాలు సుదీర్ఘంగా సాగుతాయి. పాత్రల మధ్య సంభాషణలు విసుగ్గా అనిపిస్తాయి. కథానాయిక పాత్ర ఉంది కదాని, దర్శకుడు పాటలు, లవ్‌ ట్రాక్‌ జోలికి వెళ్లకపోవడం కాస్త ఉపశమనం. ఎప్పుడైతే అరవింద్‌ మళ్లీ విధుల్లోకి చేరి దంపతుల హత్య కేసును తిరగతోడటం మొదలు పెడతాడో అప్పటి నుంచి ప్రేక్షకుడిలో కథపై ఆసక్తి పెరుగుతుంది. హత్య కేసుకు సంబంధించిన ఆధారాల కోసం అరవింద్‌ ప్రయత్నించడం దానికి పోలీసులే అడ్డుపడటం, వాటిని ఛేదించుకుంటూ అతడు ముందుకు సాగడం ఇలా ఒకదాని తర్వాత మరో సన్నివేశం చకచకా సాగుతుంది. మరోవైపు అసలు హంతకుడు ఎవరన్న ఉత్కంఠ ప్రేక్షకుడి మదిని తొలిచేస్తుంది. అరవింద్‌ కూడా ఒక్కో పాయింట్‌ను కనెక్ట్‌ చేసుకుంటూ వెళ్లడంతో ఇక హంతకుడు దొరికేస్తాడన్న సమయానికి దర్శకుడు ఊహించని ట్విస్ట్‌ ఇచ్చాడు. అదేంటన్నది తెరపై చూడాల్సిందే. కాస్త ఓపికతో ఏదైనా థ్రిల్లర్‌ మూవీ చూడాలని అనుకుంటే, ఈ వీకెండ్‌లో  ‘సెల్యూట్‌’ చూడొచ్చు. సోనీ లివ్‌లో స్ట్రీమింగ్‌ అవుతోంది.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే: నిజాయతీ కలిగిన యువ పోలీస్‌ ఆఫీసర్‌ అరవింద్‌ కృష్ణగా దుల్కర్‌ సల్మాన్‌ చక్కగా నటించాడు. ఏ సన్నివేశంలో అతి చేయలేదు. ఫస్ట్‌ ఫ్రేమ్‌ నుంచి చివరి వరకూ సెటిల్డ్‌గా కనిపించాడు. కథానాయిక డయానా పాత్రకు పెద్దగా ప్రాధాన్యం లేదు. మనోజ్ కె, లక్ష్మీ గోపాల స్వామి సహా పోలీసులుగా చేసిన వారందరూ కొత్తవారే. తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకులకు పెద్దగా పరిచయం లేని వ్యక్తులు. సాంకేతికంగా సినిమా ఓకే. అస్లాం సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ బాగుంది. సినిమా చూస్తున్న ప్రేక్షకుడిలో థ్రిల్‌ మూడ్‌ కలిగించేలా లైటింగ్‌ ఎఫెక్ట్స్‌ వాడారు. ఎడిటర్‌ శ్రీకర్‌ ప్రసాద్‌ తన కత్తెరకు ఇంకాస్త పని చెప్పాల్సింది. బహుశా మలయాళ ప్రేక్షకులను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని సినిమా కావడంతో నిడివి విషయం పెద్దగా పట్టించుకోలేదనిపిస్తోంది. జేక్స్‌ బిజోయ్‌ సంగీతం పర్వాలేదు. దర్శకుడు రోషన్‌ ఆండ్రూస్‌ ఓ డిఫరెంట్‌ థ్రిల్లర్‌ కథాంశాన్ని ఎంచుకున్నాడు. అయితే, పోలీస్‌ ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్‌ డీటేలింగ్‌ పేరుతో కథనాన్ని మాత్రం సాగదీశాడు. నిడివి తగ్గి, కథనాన్ని బిగి సడలకుండా నడిపించి ఉంటే సినిమాకు నిజంగా ‘సెల్యూట్‌’ చేయొచ్చు.

Characters are created very well, their morality and grey shades are presented very well. There is as such no unrealistic situations but the only negetive i felt, this movie doesn't have a satisfying ending, otherwise I enjoyed the entire movie.

A good thriller to watch and learn the storytelling, the movie starts with framing the evidence then guilt and at the end it becomes all about finding the conman. DQ played his role very well with few different looks and with another RE to ride he may soon become brand ambassador for RE. Overall and good movie which grip you in and even leave you with few questions

Salute movie review: Dulquer Salmaan’s film is a fine police procedural

Salute movie review: dulquer salmaan plays a cop stripped of all the antics that cop movies usually bestow upon their lead actors..

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Malayalam cinema makes the best police procedurals in the country today. Rosshan Andrrews’s Salute, which features Dulquer Salmaan in the role of a cop trying to crack a case gone cold, joins the long list of impressive cop thrillers from the industry and makes for a riveting watch. The film, which doesn’t quite rely on shocking twists, majorly works due to its focused storytelling, and in spite of being slow-paced, it still manages to keep one engaged till the end. Dulquer plays sub-Inspector Aravind Karunakaran, whose role model to join the force is his own brother Ajith Karunakaran, the deputy superintendent of police (Manoj K Jayan). Aravind looks up to his brother and takes pride in working under him. Ajith leads a team that’s after a faceless killer. The police nab the guy who they believe is responsible for the double murders, but there is not enough evidence to prove it. However, the real criminal turns out to be someone else and the police, upon learning of their goof up, decide to just let it all resolve on its own. Aravind’s conscience doesn’t let him be at peace. To nab the real killer, Aravind goes on long leave and starts to investigate on his own, earning the wrath of his own brother and his team.

What really works in the film’s favour is the narrative style. Unlike most cop thrillers, Salute isn’t in a hurry to make the hero catch the criminal. This isn’t one of those films where the twists blow you away. In fact, the film rarely relies on any major twists and rather spends its time on letting the hero be haunted by his own conscience and a faceless villain. Every time we feel like the hero is very close to nabbing the killer, the story takes a detour and Aravind hits a roadblock. Here, we don’t get a hero who’s invincible but someone who is as vulnerable as anyone. The fact that the film never tries to glorify Dulquer’s cop character is a major highlight for the film.

After the breezy romantic comedy Hey Sinamika, it’s refreshing to see Dulquer play a cop stripped of all the hero's antics. He delivers a measured performance and makes us empathize with his character, someone who’s torn between duty and family; right and wrong. The conflict and the tension between the brothers make up for another interesting angle that works in making the story quite engaging. The women have very less to contribute and Diana Penty gets wasted in a role that has no impact.

Salute Movie Review: Dulquer Salmaan's riveting cop drama is replete with new ideas

Salute, directed by rosshan andrrews, is an engaging police procedural drama featuring dulquer salmaan and manoj k jayan. the film is not your usual cop thriller, but it's interesting, nevertheless..

Dulquer Salmaan's Aravind Karunakaran is a former sub-inspector who is on long leave. He enters the Maranalloor police station to reopen the Martin-Sheeba murder case that he had investigated three years ago. But, the inspectors at the police station hesitate to hand over the case files to him. Aravind is a man who commands respect. But, he is also a police officer who is forced to plant evidence to frame a convict due to political and other external pressures.

Salute starts off with this scene and grabs your attention right from the get-go. It makes you ask questions about the murder case, Aravind's long leave and why he is reopening the case. Three years ago, Aravind, along with his brother Ajith Karunakaran, and three other police officers, closed the Martin-Sheeba case by framing an innocent man. What happens when a police officer's conscience comes in the way forms the story.

Director Rosshan Andrrews' Salute is replete with new ideas. The cop drama stays away from glorifying custodial torture. It does not have a hero in khaki, drifting in sumo cars. Instead, it portrays the life of policemen who had to face pressure from superiors to close a murder case. What is extremely appealing about Salute is that it does not take the familiar route. We don't really get to see the actual murder. It is through the evidence that we understand what has happened. It keeps us engrossed throughout.

But, there are some crazy coincidences which we need to look past to know who the killer is. For example, Aravind Karunakaran always chances upon clues when he's stuck. It is also commendable that the villain is actually faceless in this largely entertaining cop drama. Another interesting aspect of Salute is Dulquer's Aravind taking on his brother Ajith (played by Manoj). The conflict between the two brothers and their ways of functioning are poles apart. This makes the proceedings riveting.

Dulquer Salmaan as sub-inspector Aravind Karunakaran is brilliant in this procedural drama. He shows the helplessness in his eyes, which turned out to be quite effective. But, it is Manoj, who steals the show with his performance. The film does not need women as they are there as mere supporting characters. Cop dramas are mostly about cracking a case or policemen who indulge in custodial torture. Among such films, Salute stands tall. If only the director had done away with some of the obvious clues, the film would have had a much better impact.

Cinematographer Aslam K Pruayil and music director Jakes Bejoy's work was perfect for the film. Binu Pappu, Saikumar, Alencier Ley Lopez and Sudheer Karamana's performances as supporting characters helped Salute to become what it is.

In short, Salute is a cop drama with smart ideas executed to perfection.

Salute Movie Review: Dulquer Salmaan’s Subtle Charm & Bobby-Sanjay’s Riveting Writing Is A Hit Formula

What’s Good: Dulquer Salmaan proves that he can hold an entire movie on his able back and also be subtle but effective at the same time. A fresh story too.

What’s Bad: While the consequence is visible, the character arc for Dulquer looks a bit incomplete.

Loo Break: Definitely not. It’s a crisp edge of the seat drama and you must consume it like one.

Watch or Not?: Go for it. It’s Sanjay and Bobby sprinkling their Mumbai Police magic again. The mystery stays intact only to surprise you later.

SI Arvind Karunakaran (Dulquer) joins the police force with an aspiration to be an honest cop. One fine day just months after his posting he is made to sabotage a case and frame an innocent as a murderer of two. The guilt doesn’t let him sleep and he decides to take a sabbatical. But the investigation team that stages proofs is led by his elder brother Ajith, his hero and he can’t do anything bold to make things right. What he does to find redemption is the film.

Salute Movie Review: Script Analysis

The cop dramas that have the influence of the politics of the land and a touch of corruption, most of the times take the same route. But you don’t expect Bobby and Sanjay to take the path already taken and that is where their talent as writers shine. Just like Mumbai Police, the two know what story they want to tell and just when they make you feel they have lost all the control over the script, they flip the coin and tell you who’s the boss.

Salute set in a police department is about the power game and abuse that happens in there. But zoom in and look closely, it is about a man meeting his hero and his dreams shattering into pieces, it is about a brother who has idolised his elder one for his entire life and has seen evil in him now. So the conflict is always about two brothers from different sides of the spectrum. Amid this, there is a faceless criminal and we all know how amazing both the writers are in shaping faceless Characters and weaving mystery around them.

The best part is that Salute even with a story that is highly dramatic, never goes high on drama. The approach is subtle and real which makes you enter the world more conveniently. Imagine two brothers living under the same roof are fighting in the office (not literally) but in the house they have to maintain the decorum. Never do they talk to each other in raised voices. The family never gets to know the tension between them, but they are always thinking one step ahead than the other.

There is also a social commentary about corruption, politics influencing investigations, and how the pressure during election seasons makes the cops do wrong. But it is never overplayed to make it be the highlight. It is on your understanding as to the audience on how you take it.

What bothers me in Salute is the climax. While Dulquer Salmaan’s Arvind does learn a thing or two about life, his character remains stagnant. There is no real progress in terms of him idealizing his brother. You have seen your ideal do wrong which disrupted your life and that should create a sense of hate for him or at least the realisation that you cannot hold them at the same position any longer. Arvind continues to call his brother his inspiration and it only kills the purpose.

Salute Movie Review: Star Performance

Dulquer Salmaan and his charm is so flexible that it shapes itself as the character. He can be a college boy trying to navigate his life or a robust police officer that can’t see bad. His innocence stays intact and you can see it through his eyes in all his characters. Just like the makers, even he has subtle approach and it all helps because the writing has all the drama.

Manoj K Jaya compliments Salmaan with his performance. He is the bad cop and tries his level best to stop Arvind from taking the right path. The actor shines as he is always convinced what he does is right. He even says, “ This is how the system works,” with complete confidence because years of service has hardened him in that way.

Salute Movie Review: Direction, Music

Roshan Andrews knows how to use the natural set up to create scenes and frames out of it. He shows Arvind and his goodness move around freely in the day, while Ajith and his evil that lurks in light is powerful in the darkness of the night. The fact that he even handles the faceless killer quite intriguingly and doesn’t let it be good on just the paper is commendable too.

Jakes Bejoy’s background score is on point and he knows when to induce it and when to stop. It is never overdone and that creates a much-needed impact.

Salute Movie Review: The Last Word

Salute is a fresh take on the police system and a story more personal than others. Dulquer Salmaan is a treat and so is the writing. You must watch this soon.

In the Rosshan Andrrews film, Salute, Dulquer Salmaan plays a sub-inspector who reopens a twin-murder case that he could not solve the first time. SI Aravind Karunakaran is driven by a staunch commitment to knowing the truth and justice. He has all the qualities to be a good cop, but a corrupt system stands in his way.

Political pressure makes the cops in the movie use amoral means to nab a person they are convinced is guilty. But Aravind is so certain about the innocence of the man that he eventually feels guilty of framing an innocent man. When things do not go according to how he wants, Arvind takes a long leave of absence.

The movie begins with Arvind as a cop on leave investigating an old case. We later realize that it is his guilt and a mysterious series of events that make him return to service and pursue the unsolved crime case.

Salute is not your cookie-cutter thriller with cliches, red herrings and phony suspense. It is more of a police procedural with a somewhat predictable result. It is not a standard whodunit in that there is more emphasis on truth and justice than the identity of the killer. The killer may be any person, but the focus here is on the moral predicament of the cop.

Salute is not a perfect film. Director Rosshan Andrrews seems to have written the film for the big screen. It explains an obligatory action scene that comes in the middle of the film to make the audience clap for the hero. In other words, it is there to please Dulquer Salmaan fans.

The way of investigation here does not rely on scientific methods. It means that Salute is an old-school chase movie. It relies a bit too much on coincidences. At a point, you will start to feel that Arvind is chasing Dulquer's own imposter character in Kurup.

The women characters have little to do here. Saniya Iyappan and Lakshmy Gopalaswamy only fill up the screen. On the other hand, Hindi film actor Diana Penty makes her debut in Malayalam cinema with the obligatory role of the lead actor's love interest. Even if you remove Diana's character from the movie, it would not be less interesting. It is not to say that the actress does a bad job.

I also have a slight issue with a specific aspect of the climax. Working from a Bobby-Sanjay script, Rosshan Andrrews maintains a gripping feel throughout and extracts a riveting performance from Dulquer Salmaan. The director handles the investigative part of the movie well throughout. It is just that I expected the protagonist to make a specific decision at the end, but he goes against the norm. It is no big issue as the whole movie never depends on that one piece of information.

Salute feels familiar yet somewhat unconventional in that it explores the morality of the protagonist. What benefits the film greatly is Dulquer Salmaan's performance. Manoj K. Jayan, Binu Pappu and Alencier Ley Lopez are also very good in their respective roles. But the film depends greatly on Dulquer, and he delivers the goods.

The actor could explore the moral complexity of his character more deeply here but is always riveting on screen. Dulquer can let the audience know what his character is thinking without relying too much on dialogues. Dulquer brings out the anger, the frustration and the guilt of his character at the appropriate moments. There is one moment where Aravind looks at an object and then at a character and gives him a wry smile. At that moment, I thought to myself, 'I know what is on his mind'. It is a riveting performance that holds this film together.

Salute movie review: Dulquer Salmaan’s rooted investigation drama holds promise but lacks the knockout punch

Scriptwriters Bobby and Sanjay have detailed the world of police officers – be it their vast network, the immense pressure they are under, the in-fighting, the procedures and also how life becomes hell if you turn against them, even if you were one of them

Story: Sub inspector Aravind Karunakaran and his colleagues including his elder brother and DySP Ajith Karunakaran are under massive pressure to solve a double homicide. While they narrow down the suspect, they don’t have enough proof to make a case and hence fabricate evidence to implicate him. Aravind, however, is against this ploy and takes it up with his superiors who begin punishing him for his upright ways, forcing him to break away from the job and his family. Years later, he decides to take a crack at the case again. Will he succeed or make more enemies in the process?

Review: Director Rosshan Andrrews and scriptwriters Bobby and Sanjay had last done an investigative thriller almost a decade ago with Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Mumbai Police. What made the film work to a large extent is how the probe tied neatly and surprisingly to the personal life of the investigating officer. Salute too makes use of this, but here it’s more about the clash of ideologies between its characters that gets fleshed out, more than the investigation itself.

The protagonist, sub inspector Aravind Karunakaran (Dulquer Salmaan), is the idealistic type who chooses being a cop over a lawyer to follow in the footsteps of his brother Ajith Karunakaran. However, after he is part of a conspiracy within the cop circle to fabricate evidence to implicate a man, whom the senior officers think has committed a double homicide but can’t prove, Aravind has a fallout. Unable to digest how the world of police works and more importantly his brother’s ways, he takes a long leave from work and also stays away from his family. A family function, however, brings him back in town and leads him to give the case another crack. But this time, without the power of being a cop.

In Salute, Bobby and Sanjay have detailed this world of police – be it their vast network, the in-fighting, the procedures and also how life becomes hell if you turn against them, even if you were one of them. And it’s not just the power they wield that comes to focus through the film, the scriptwriters also put the spotlight on the massive pressure that the officers are often under – sometimes from their higher-ups and almost always from the weight of the consequent fallible actions. Salute’s main strength lies in this – how through the story it defines the personal and professional lives of the cops and in this case, how it affects the dynamics between the two brothers.

The investigative part, however, holds promise but never quite delivers. Even as Aravind chases after an unknown killer, who keeps forging identities, you are never hooked to the case. It’s also probably because he himself is never actually on the hotseat of finding the culprit. While the story itself is about his obsession to prove that the implicated person is innocent, it sort of becomes a side show with him stumbling on clues almost accidentally. It’s also a film where you would wonder if the film would have ended better if it didn’t have Aravind’s final dialogue – considering a vast portion was indeed dedicated to the investigation.

Dulquer ably showcases the varied sides of Aravind and it’s probably the anger that also differentiates each phase. You could feel that he’s a bit green behind the ear as he first goes up against a gang of political goons for roughing up his brother. Though there’s a hint of restraint when he returns two years later, the pent-up rage that has been building up surfaces soon after he finds himself powerless. Salute isn’t a typical Dulquer film and the actor understands it well, he doesn’t let the character err too much from the graph except at certain points and these make strong impacts.

Manoj K Jayan plays the other pivotal character. Contrary to Aravind, Ajith’s graph is all over the place and that’s what the role demanded too – considering the pressure he is in, from within the family as well as the police establishment. You could almost feel his stress every time he’s at home or with his cop colleagues.

Diana Penty is massively underutilised in the role as Aravind’s girlfriend. Shaheen Siddique and Sudheer Karamana are the other actors who make an impression. Jakes Bejoy’s music is just right for this grounded investigation drama that doesn’t rely on too many gimmicks of the genre and lets its characters’ emotions drive it. Aslam Purayil’s cinematography is another plus in the film, which is paced and edited well to be watched on a streaming platform.

Verdict: Salute isn’t a typical Dulquer thriller. But given it’s an OTT release, the makers have used the freedom to delve more into the characters’ mindspace and that works well for this grounded investigation drama, which is definitely worth a watch.

Off late, where ever you go, there is only topic and that is how Baahubali 2 is going to be. Directed by the genius Rajamouli, the magnum opus has released in over 8000 screens all over today. Let’s see whether the film reaches our expectations or not.

As shown in the first part, Baahubali(Prabhas)is declared as the king of Mahishmati. As part of the kingdom’s ancestral ritual, the would-be king needs to visit the countryside to know what problems the people in his kingdom are facing. In this process, Baahubali visits a small kingdom called Kuntala and falls in love with its princess Devasena (Anushka).

He woos Devasena with his charm and brings her to Mahishmati. But to his shock, Baahubali’s mother, Shivagami(Ramya Krishna) changes her decision suddenly and announces Bhallaladeva(Rana) as the king. Why did Shivagami suddenly announce Bhallaladeva as the king? What is the back story behind her decision? and why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? To know answers to these questions, you need to watch the film on the big screen.

Plus Points:-

There are way too many things that impress you in Baahubali 2 but it is practically impossible to pen all of them down in this review. Let me start by talking about the gigantic scale of the film. It is like a never before and never again kind of scenario as Baahubali 2 is huge in every aspect. Every visual of the film is filled with surprises either in terms of graphics or the extravagant sets that have been put up. The costumes, drama showcased and performances are a first of its kind in Telugu films.

Credit should go to Rajamouli for taking Indian films to another level with his mind blowing story telling. The way he has induced a terrific conflict between the two brothers is the major asset of the film. Prabhas unleashes his beastly side in the second part and takes away your senses with his striking performance. From the first scene, his screen presence is top notch and the way he takes Bhallaladeva head on is just terrific.

A lot was said about Anushka’s weight but boy she looks top class in this film. Right from her traditional costumes to her mature look, she has pulled off both the roles with ease. She looks slim and quite beautiful throughout the film. Coming to Rana, it would not be exaggerating to say that Rana will never get such a magnanimous role in the future. What makes the film even more fiery and ghastly is his fabulous villainous avatar. No other actor apart from him could have played this role of a lifetime and Rana has done full justice to it.

Nassar and Satyaraj are excellent in their roles and especially Nasser, is the major highlight among the supporting cast. Ramya Krishna showcases superb emotions and brings a lot of depth to the film. The family emotions are yet another highlight of the film as they elevate the proceedings with a lot of depth. The fist fight between Rana and Prabhas is a feast to the eye.

Minus Points:-

A number of audiences might get disappointed with the way Rajamouli has answered why Katappa killed Baahubali. Even though, the twist gels well with the script, it might not meet the expectations of many. Once the twist is revealed, the film becomes a bit predictable. The climax looks a bit rushed upon as things happen way too quickly.

Tamanna is hardly seen in the film and only appears during the climax. There are certain areas in the film where pace gets slow and some unforced drama overtakes the proceedings. The romance between Prabhas and Anushka could have been edited out a bit to make things better.

Technical Aspects:-

Baahubali 2 is one of the most technically efficient films made in India. If part one surprised you with its scale, then second part will leave you speechless with excellent visual effects and emotions. The kingdoms shown and sets created look top notch on screen. The entire team of Makuta should be appreciated for taking the film to another level with their VFX work.

What takes Baahubali to its peak is the stunning background score of M M Keeravani. Even though his songs are not that effective as the first part, the way he elevates the proceedings with his score is impressive. Dialogues are decent and so were the lyrics. Costumes done for every character looks top class. The weaponry created and props used look quite lethal.

Coming to the director Rajamouli, he has surely done India and the film fraternity proud with Baahubali. He has dreamt of something out of the box and has also succeeded in bringing life to India’s biggest motion picture. The way he has continued the story in the second part and made the drama even more intense is superb. There is more depth in the proceedings and every character has been given complete justification.

Every frame of Baahubali is his creation and you can’t but salute to the genius of this filmmaker who will be the next big thing in Indian cinema. At times, you just wonder how did he perceive all this in his mind and execute it in such a convincing manner. Technicians like him are rare and Telugu folks should be proud that our own director has gone ahead and proved that nothing is impossible.

. Verdict:-

On the whole, Baahubali 2 is one film which leaves you speechless. Right from the word go, it has intense drama and action as every frame in the film is a visual wonder. Be it the heroic fights or the lavish war scenes, Rajamouli showcases some never before scenes in Indian film history. This film will be remembered and spoken about for years to come and break every possible record in the country. The performances, drama and the lavish scale look jaw dropping and make this film a never before experience for every movie lover. Finally, just ignore the simple story line and do yourself a favor by taking your entire family to watch this magnum opus called Baahubali as wonders like these only happen very rarely.
