Lifetime’s ‘Buried in Barstow’ Ending, Explained
Where to stream:.
- Buried In Barstow
'Law & Order' Alum Angie Harmon Says Instacart Delivery Driver Shot And Killed Her Dog: "We Are Completely Traumatized And Beyond Devastated"
Is ‘buried in barstow’ a true story, will ‘buried in barstow’ get a sequel what we know about part 2.
The Lifetime movie is its own genre, usually featuring a woman protagonist who endures some kind of major life trauma who then either takes matters into her own hands, or learns from her experiences and teaches others how to overcome their own issues. Buried In Barstow , which stars Angie Harmon , is the newest Lifetime movie and it leans into the “woman taking matters into her own hands” sub-genre. Harmon plays Hazel King, mother to a 19-year-old girl named Joy (Lauren Richards), and a diner owner in Barstow, CA who befriends a handsome but broke stranger named Elliott (Kristoffer Polaha) who she employs at her diner when he can’t pay for his meal.
Hazel left Las Vegas with Joy when she was a young, new mother, leaving her life as a hitwoman behind. Befriended by Javier, a man who helped her get her on her feet, she now works with him at her diner. Her past as a killer for hire means she has a series of skills that make her handy with guns and all manner of other weapons. When she learns that her daughter’s boyfriend, Travis (Timothy Granaderos), has abused her, those special skills come in handy when she drives him to the desert, beats him, and leaves him for dead. Joy, who still claims to love her boyfriend, is angry that her mother would do such a thing.
Eventually, Hazel begins a romance with Elliott, but as it turns out, he’s a plant, having shown up at her diner as part of a ploy from Hazel’s old boss, Von (played by Bruce McGill), to pull her back into the murder business, and it’s Elliott’s job to make sure she finishes one last hit job.
‘Buried in Barstow’ Ending, Explained
Hazel heads to Vegas, telling Elliott that she has unfinished business there. But instead of killing her mark, Hazel plans to kill Von instead, so she can be out from under his thumb once and for all. As she fights with Von, he not only reveals that Elliott works for him, but – TWIST – it turns out that Von is Hazel’s own father and he trained her for this life, and she escaped to Barstow with Joy so she wouldn’t have to be involved in the family business any longer. She shoots him dead and returns to Barstow.
Buried In Barstow ends with an actual “To Be Continued…” cliffhanger. (And yes, it has been confirmed that Hazel’s story will continue in a sequel film.) In the final scenes of the film, Travis, bloodied and beaten, shows up at the diner and finds Joy and the two leave together. Hazel noticed that her friend and coworker Javier isn’t in the diner, and when she runs out back, she finds him getting beaten, and tries to fight off the men who are assaulting him, but before she can defeat them, they shoot her twice and leave her to bleed out. They kidnap Javier and a teen-aged girl (who I assume is Javier’s daughter), driving off with them in a van. (A brief conversation with a local police officer earlier in the film revealed that several young women were going missing after being kidnapped; though it isn’t made explicit, I’m assuming this abduction is related to that.) Elliott comes out to help Hazel, telling her everything will be alright, and the film ends, leaving plenty of plot points loose and ready to be tied up in a sequel.
