Presentation Girls' Primary School, Maynooth, Co. Kildare ( Scoil Mhuire na Toirbhirte ) is a Catholic primary school catering for girls from Junior Infants to Sixth class.

It is conducted in accordance with the ethos of the Presentation Order founded by Nano Nagle. We seek to provide a broad and balanced education in an atmosphere of mutual respect with an appreciation of the individual needs of pupils, staff, parents and the wider community. We welcome children of all races, creeds and abilities.

Our school has a pleasant, happy working atmosphere. Our school motto is "Aoibhinn Beatha an Scolaire" which means School Days are Happy Days.

At present our school caters for 465 pupils. The teaching staff consists of an administrative principal, 17 mainstream teachers, 4 resource teachers and 3 language support teachers. Our support staff includes 2 Special Needs Assistants, secretary, caretaker, cleaners and housekeeper.

09.00 - 13.40 Junior and Senior Infants

09.00 - 14.40 1st class to 6th class

10.50 - 11.00 Morning Break

12.30 - 13.00 Lunch Break

School Uniform:

Royal blue pinafore with blue shirt, red tie, navy cardigan and navy tights or white socks.

For physical education pupils wear plain navy tracksuit with white or blue polo shirt and runners.

Celebrate the Venerable Nano Nagle

Nano Nagle was born into a wealthy family in North Cork, Ireland, in 1718, during a time when Irish Catholics were harshly oppressed by the British under the Penal Laws, which among other things, made it illegal for Catholics to start schools in their homes or send their children abroad for schooling. Fortunately, Nano and her sister came from a wealthy family that was able to smuggle them to Paris for a full Catholic education. Upon returning to Ireland, Nano was struck by the widespread poverty, and opened a secret school for the poorest of the poor in a rented mud cottage, at great risk. Besides learning their catechism, her students learned simple reading, writing, and arithmetic and skilled crafts that might relieve their poverty. By the time of her death in 1784, she had established a whole network of schools that became the basis of the Catholic school system in Ireland, as well as a religious order to run them the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Known as the “Lady of the Lantern” for her nighttime visits the homes of poor students, her dying words were: “Love one another as you have hitherto done. Spend your lives for the poor.”

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.

Schar School Students Shine at National Political Science Conference

In a notable showcase of academic excellence and scholarly engagement, students from the Schar School of Policy and Government made a significant impact at the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) Conference held in Chicago earlier this month. Despite its regional designation, the conference attracted some 5,000 attendees, solidifying its status as a premier national event in the field of political science.

Among the participants were two undergraduate and eight doctoral students from the Schar School, who distinguished themselves through their presentations of papers and posters. Their topics spanned a wide range of political science disciplines, reflecting the depth and diversity of research being conducted at the institution.

The presentations covered areas such as public perception of political events, the impact of Supreme Court rulings, the analysis of political disloyalty, community sponsorship in resettlement, and the intricate dynamics of global politics, among others.

The students' contributions were not only well-received but also highlighted their professional demeanor, analytical prowess, and engaging presentation skills. Their work garnered positive feedback throughout the weekend-long event, demonstrating the high caliber of mentorship and academic preparation they received at the Schar School.

In the days prior to the conference, student participants were invited to an afternoon workshop where several of their professors, experienced hands at presenting difficult material to a live audience, coached them during practice sessions. The fine-tuning paid off.

Victor . “[They were] doing their best and getting good feedback on their work. I was proud to be their professor, mentor, and colleague at this important national political science conference.”

As the MPSA Conference continues to be a pivotal event for political science scholars nationwide, the participation of Schar School students not only enhances their own academic profiles but also elevates the school's reputation as a hub for innovative research and scholarly excellence.

How to meet a girl on the Moscow Metro?

1. Meeting a girl beneath the Russian capital might initially seem like a huge challenge: In the morning people hurry on their way to work and in the evening – rush back home.

2. With everyone dashing here and there, catching eyes with someone who takes your fancy can be hard, but it’s not always so hectic.   

3. On the weekends the crowd is generally more relaxed and there are more opportunities to spark up conversation.

4. Russians may have a reputation for looking unfriendly and not smiling, but don’t be afraid to approach a girl. Try asking something simple (even if you know the answer) like : “Do you know how I can get to Teatralnaya?”

5. Most girls will be willing to help you.

6. Strike while the iron is hot - after you start talking  you could try inviting her for a walk or a coffee above ground.

7. Be polite and direct. Russian women will appreciate if you ask them out with confidence.

8. Don’t be disrespectful. In some cases women will decline your offer, but usually this would be done in a very polite way.

9. Pressuring her in this situation would definitely be a bad idea.

10. Sleazy jokes and wolf whistles will not increase your chances of success. Be a gentleman.

11. If you charm the girl enough to land a date, don’t try to show off. Ask questions about her interests and things she likes to do – she will definitely appreciate it.

12. First impressions are key. Wear something subtle but stylish, and offer to pay for her coffee. Insist on this, even if she refuses.

13. Moscow is far more open than many people think - those who are willing to put themselves out there will more often than not be rewarded.

14. But don’t just look for true love underground – look for it everywhere!
