Essay on Luck

Students are often asked to write an essay on Luck in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Luck

Understanding luck.

Luck is a mysterious concept, often defined as a force that brings good fortune or adversity. Some people believe in luck, while others think it’s just a result of their actions.

The Role of Luck

Luck plays a significant role in various aspects of life, including games, business, and personal relationships. It can sometimes lead to unexpected success or failure.

Luck Vs. Hard Work

While luck can influence outcomes, it’s crucial to remember that hard work and dedication are more reliable. Depending on luck can lead to disappointment, but effort usually pays off.

In conclusion, luck is an unpredictable factor in life. It’s important to focus on what we can control: our actions and attitudes.

250 Words Essay on Luck

The concept of luck.

Luck is an ambiguous term, often tossed around in casual conversations, suggesting a mysterious force that bestows favorable or unfavorable circumstances upon individuals. It’s a concept that has puzzled philosophers, psychologists, and sociologists alike, raising questions about its existence, role, and impact on human life.

Luck or Probability?

Many argue that luck is merely a manifestation of probability and chance. Events with low probability of occurrence, when they do occur, are often deemed as ‘lucky’. For instance, winning the lottery is considered an act of luck due to the minuscule probability of any one ticket being the winner.

Perception and Interpretation of Luck

Our perception of luck can significantly influence our actions and decisions. Some people, known as fatalists, believe in the predestination of events, attributing their successes or failures to luck. On the other hand, those who believe in free will may dismiss the idea of luck, attributing outcomes to personal effort and choices.

Luck and Success

The role of luck in success is a contentious topic. While some successful individuals acknowledge the role of luck in their journey, others emphasize hard work and perseverance. It’s important to recognize that luck may open doors, but it’s one’s skills and determination that ultimately walk through them.

In conclusion, luck is a complex, multifaceted concept that intertwines with our perceptions of chance, fate, and personal agency. Whether or not one believes in luck, it’s undeniable that it plays a significant role in our discourse about success, failure, and life’s unpredictable nature.

500 Words Essay on Luck

Introduction.

Luck, a concept shrouded in mystery, is often considered an enigmatic force that randomly bestows fortune or misfortune upon individuals. It is a subject that has intrigued philosophers, scientists, and thinkers for centuries. This essay aims to delve into the nature of luck, its impact on our lives, and its relation to hard work and opportunity.

Luck is a probabilistic event that is beyond an individual’s control and can result in positive or negative outcomes. It is often attributed to fate, chance, or divine intervention. Some view it as a random, unpredictable force that can alter the course of events, while others perceive it as a manifestation of karma or cosmic justice. The concept of luck is deeply ingrained in various cultures and societies, influencing individuals’ beliefs, actions, and attitudes.

Luck and Hard Work

The relationship between luck and hard work is a contentious topic. Many argue that luck plays a minimal role in success, asserting that diligence, persistence, and skill are the primary determinants. However, others contend that luck is a crucial factor, as unforeseen opportunities or fortunate circumstances can significantly impact an individual’s trajectory.

The reality likely lies somewhere in between. While hard work and skill are essential for success, they do not guarantee it. Luck can provide opportunities that hard work alone might not, such as meeting the right person at the right time or being in the right place when an opportunity arises. Conversely, without hard work and preparation, one might not be able to seize the opportunities that luck presents.

Luck and Opportunity

The adage, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity,” encapsulates the intricate relationship between luck and opportunity. Luck often seems to favor those who are prepared and open to new possibilities. Therefore, recognizing and seizing opportunities can significantly increase one’s chances of experiencing good luck.

In conclusion, luck is a complex and multifaceted concept that can significantly influence our lives. It is an unpredictable force that can alter the course of events, providing unforeseen opportunities or challenges. However, it is essential to remember that while we cannot control luck, we can control our actions, attitudes, and readiness to seize the opportunities that luck may present. Therefore, while luck can play a role in our lives, it is our hard work, preparation, and ability to recognize and seize opportunities that truly define our success. Thus, rather than relying solely on luck, we should strive to cultivate the skills, attitudes, and openness to opportunity that can help us make the most of whatever luck comes our way.

Essay on “Luck” for School, College Students, Long and Short English Essay, Speech for Class 8, 9, 10, 12 and Competitive Exams.

We commonly speak of good luck and bad luck, and talk of people being lucky or unlucky, and of things happening by pure chance. Yet science tells us there is no such thing as chance or luck. According to the law of cause and effect, every happening has a cause. Not a leaf falls, not a wind blows, not a flower opens, without a reason. But we still use the word chance to describe happenings, the reason of which we do not know. When such apparently causeless happenings are favourable to us, we say they are lucky; when unfavourable, we call them unlucky. “Luck is simply untraced, and so far untraceable, law.”

All purely gambling games are games of chance. They are not decided by skill or forethought, but simply by the happening of something we cannot control, like the fall of a coin or the turning up of a certain card. No doubt there is a reason why, when we spin a coin, it is sometimes “heads” and sometimes “tails”. But, if we are playing fairly, we cannot discover the reason, and so we cannot control the coin. So we say that it’s turning up heads or tails is simply a matter of luck or chance.

Now ignorance is the mother of superstition. When people do not know why a thing happens in a certain way, they attribute its happening to good or bad luck. People to whom pleasant things often happen are called “lucky”; and those who seem to be always meeting with misfortune are called “unlucky”; as if there were something in themselves that attracts good or bad fortune. They even think that inanimate things can bring them good or bad luck. So they wear charms to keep away misfortune and are really nervous if the salt is upset in their direction, or if they pass under a ladder, or see the new moon through glass.

Now of course all such superstitions are pure nonsense. There is really no such thing as luck or chance, and only foolish people waste their time in waiting for a miracle of good luck to bring them a fortune. The wise man will try to attain it by hard work, wise effort, and enterprise, and Will leave nothing to chance. Most of the people who are called “lucky” have good fortune because they work for it, and the so-called “unlucky” men miss it because they are lazy or dull.

Modern science has taught us that nothing happens by chance. Everything is the effect of some cause, even though we may not be able to discover what that cause is. Not a leaf falls to the ground, not a wind blows, and not a flower opens, without a reason. There is really, then, no such thing as chance. But we still use the word to describe happenings the reason of which we do not know, and when such apparently causeless happenings are favourable to our interests we say they are lucky; when unfavourable, we say they are unlucky.

All gambling games are games of chances because they are decided not by skill or forethought, but simply by the happening of something which we cannot control, like the fall of a coin or the turning up of a certain card. No doubt there is the reason why, when we spin a coin, it is sometimes “heads” and sometimes “tails.” But if we play fairly, we cannot discover that reason, and so we cannot control the fall of the coin So we say that it’s turning up heads or tails is simply a matter of luck or chance.

Now ignorance always produces superstition. When people do not know why a thing happens in a certain way, they attribute its happening to good or bad luck. People, to whom pleasant things often happen, is called “lucky” men; and those who are always meeting with misfortune are called “unlucky,” as if there were something in the people themselves that attracted good or bad fortune. When folk have once got this idea of good and bad luck into their heads, they believe in all kinds of silly superstitions, and really think that inanimate things can bring them good fortune or bad fortune. Such people are really nervous if the salt is upset on the table in their direction; if they sleep in a room numbered 13 at a hotel; if they pass under a ladder; or see the new moon through glass. These things, for no reason at all, are supposed to bring bad luck.

Now of course all such superstitions are pure nonsense, and no educated person should bother about them for a moment. There is really no such thing as luck or chance, and only foolish people waste their lives in waiting for a miracle of good luck to bring them a fortune. The wise man will try to attain it by hard work, wise effort and enterprise, and leave nothing to chance. Most of the people who are called “lucky” have good fortune because they work for it, and so-called “unlucky men” miss it because they are lazy or stupid.

I once introduced one of my girlfriend’s to a boy that seemed to be a good match for her. When I asked if things had worked out, she said no. She said he was nice, but he did not seem to have luck. She said it as if ‘luck’ was something you could be born with.

Is luck something you are born with?

That was such a strange way of looking at luck. It made me realize that this idea can be seen in so many different ways depending on your culture, your beliefs and perhaps your superstitions.

On the one hand, it can open up discussions on gratefulness, positivity and recognizing all the things in our lives that make us feel lucky…our children, our health, various aspects of our lives that make us happy.

Luck and Culture

But luck can also be explored culturally. For instance, in Japanese mythology, the Seven Gods of Luck are believed to have the power to grant luck. Hinduism , Taoism and Buddhism , also have gods or figures that are believed to bestow luck. I suppose this means that you can believe in luck like you would believe in god. Or that if you are unlucky, it may be because you don’t deserve luck.

In this wordless animated short by Mike Bidinger & Michelle Kwon called Jinxy J enkins & Lucky Lou , yet another facet of luck is explored. Jinxy is a walking disaster. Every step he takes is laced with misfortune. He is nervous and unhappy all the time. Conversely, Lou is so lucky she seems bored and unchallenged. I will let you watch to see what happens when the two meet.

Moral Luck, Responsibility, and This Worldly Life

Part of the book series: Political Philosophy and Public Purpose ((POPHPUPU))

Luck exposes our limited powers and vulnerabilities in this worldly life. Stoics and Kant reject moral luck: we are responsible only for what we control. Thomas Nagel finds moral luck a paradox: though responsible for what I control, I am held responsible for what exceeds it. Stoicism, Kant, and Nagel offer three approaches to moral luck based on a common failure to grasp action. Stoics eliminate moral luck in affirming the mind’s uncompromised freedom alongside nature’s deterministic order. Kant’s transcendental turn dodges moral luck. The phenomenal world’s determinism is not absolute; a noumenal self rescues freedom. Nagel’s “view from nowhere” envisions an enveloping objectivity where I control nothing: action, responsibility, and luck stop making sense. Rejecting two-world solutions while embracing the subjective/objective split, Nagel must accept a forlorn antinomy. Stubborn belief in responsibility clashes against the necessity of events. But freedom and responsibility are not stifled by worldliness: facticity enables us to act.

Essay on My Lucky Charm (989 Words)

February 20, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Lucky charm is an object or person that brings in good luck to the owner. They expect to benefit the owner monetarily or emotionally and sometimes both ways.

Lucky charms sometime acts as confidence booster. Though they don’t have real supernatural powers but they do make the owner feel happy and better.

The odds in one`s life gets minimized, seemingly with the positivity that flows from lucky charm. But one has to be sure about the realism and energy that flows from lucky charm`s powers.

Choosing a lucky charm may seem to be silly to some. But they may have lasting effects merely by putting one in a more confident and happy state of mind.

Lucky charms should be something which gives one a feeling of close association. Such objects do have personal significance and connection to the life of bearer.

A souvenir, a toy from childhood, a dress, a plant, a hat, a Jewellery piece or some coin, the genre of lucky charm is not restricted.

They vary from person to person and from object to object. Sometimes lucky charm follows within family legacy. While other time they are individual`s personal choice.

If someone is creative enough they may design a lucky charm for themselves. They may assemble many objects which they consider bring them favour and good luck in life.

Usually an object associated with person`s professional life considered as lucky charm. May be it’s because we attach our good luck with money we earn over the period of time.

The social and the financial success of one`s career is yardstick of luck. And many a times, luck teams up with lucky charm that person owns, increasing the effect manifold.

Relying on lucky charm alone is superstition, no doubt. But lucky charm do works at time really. Luck and morale booster are sometimes synonymous but in disguise.

These objects bear the self-efficacy giving the owner the belief that we`re capable of doing what we set out for.

The confidence gets enhanced with luck and lucky charm sometimes at least. The mental and physical performance gets groomed up with kinship of lucky charm.

Few professions demand more reliance on luck. Other depends on the efforts and hardships given in for the accomplishments of set goals.

Sometimes it happens with us that we put in our greatest efforts, giving 100% to our job. But yet can’t get the desired results.

The onus of one’s failure in life is on bad luck. And to curb the failure of fate one acquires different objects to bring in good luck. Everyone in real life to reel life have trust in positivity flowing from lucky objects.

Be it film stars or politicians or general common person, everyone has faced failure. during such need they have to rush to experts for suggestions.

Such suggestions usually comes in  shape of bracelets, stones or some other Jewellery pieces which acts as luck enhancer and brings back success.

With more and more people getting access to internet, the knowledge about various objects which may bring in luck is getting into the notice of general masses.

“I have no lucky charm. I am 100 percent superstition-free, and I take nothing for granted.” is the quote from Jeff Bridges.

And this quote explains my point of view in respect of luck charms pretty well too. I am a non-believer in non-living objects bringing in good luck.

Living objects, I know does bring in positive aura in their surroundings. The simple fundamental behind my firm belief is that it’s only the mind sets and the school of thoughts which brings in good luck and bad luck.

The power of positivity is so strong that it may negate all the need of lucky charm. If one is consistent in their efforts with an affirmative approach the success is bound to follow, sooner or later.

In addition to positive attitude one needs blessings from god. His blessings are the most valuable possession for any human being. They have super healing effect on every aspect of life.

It’s the god who determines the destiny of every living being according to their karma. Luck follows destiny and man themselves are writer of their destiny. So directly or indirectly man earns their luck.

When one longs to see the face of their beloved, it’s because they consider them to be their lucky charm. Anything which brings in solace and joy in life are lucky charm according to me.

Life is full of adversities and bad lucks. But it’s the company of our near and dear ones which gives us strength to fight back every odd in life.

I believe that non-living things doesn’t own that much of power which may change someone`s destiny. All mighty alone has the ability to make over ones’ destiny.

The one and the only lucky charm, which has ability to change the course of action, is GOD. In invisible mode HE is always present besides HIS each and every child.

One, who acknowledges HIS presence and work in accordance to HIS will, yields the fruitful results. Faith in him is the highest positivity which may lights up darkest path of human life.

Every physical lucky charm has life spam of certain time period. But faith in God comes with unlimited life time offer.

Loving someone and being loved by someone whole heartedly is the best lucky charm. Because loving and sharing are the purest virtues created by God.

Loves always bring luck if it’s selfless and flawless. The facet of love may be many but the pre-requisite and ultimate result is happiness.

Every human emotion is lucky charm only if it doesn’t involve any negative trait. One may be maker of one’s own destiny as very less people are born with silver spoon in mouth. To sum up my ideology

“Luck is not a magical ability or a gift from the gods.

Instead, it is a way of thinking and behaving.”

Truthfully, anyone may earn their luck but with determination and efforts and not relying on few physical objects.
