Introduction

No one can be mentally stable and strong if he or she is physically weak. Perhaps, this is a reason why all schools compulsorily include physical education among their academic and educational curriculum. As a part of our day-to-day lives, sports and games can help develop a fertile brain and ensure overall immunity and health. My parents always encourage me to actively participate in games and sports. While sports give me a break from everyday routine, my parents believe that it has more valuable benefits to offer.

Adding Spark in Life

Both indoor and outdoor sports are incredible sources of recreation. After a quick run in the field or a short chess session with my father, I feel very energetic and cheerful. It lessens the dullness that I feel after a long, hard day. And remaining mentally charged up does have some positive effects on my body. I have often found it easy to give more effort to my work with a happy heart.

Imparting Value

Playing sports regularly also helps to build a spirit of sportsmanship. It is a virtue essential to many more years to come. Also, it helps to be efficient in teamwork. When a group of the players is in the same game, the performance of each participant matters. The success largely depends on the joint effort and co-operation of the entire team. Any weak link or poor performance can negatively affect the game. Regular participation in sports also helps to build a sturdy physique and has a good sense of humour. Of course, regular participation helps to improve concentration, as well.

Staying Outdoor or Indoor?

After the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, I get a lesser chance to go out and play. The scarcity of big playing fields or parks in my locality is also another big problem. Yet, whenever I get the chance to play outside, it feels good. I get a chance to mix with several boys and girls in my age group. Also, I love the greenery there. It makes me feel very close to Mother Nature. Sometimes, we form small groups to play tiny cricket matches, ball games, and tug of war. Even small group games involved a lot of strategic thinking and teamwork. It helped a shy child like me to socialize better. At least, it gave me some quality time with my playmates.

I also love indoor games because they give me fast entertainment. They are also easily accessible. My room has a lot of board games for timepass. These include Ludo and monopoly. However, I also love mind games like chess and Sudoku. Besides, there are times when my mother allows me to play with her smartphone for a limited time. I have downloaded some interesting games there, as well.

What My Doctor Says

My family doctor strongly recommends that I go out and play. Even during the lockdown, he would ask me to get on the rooftop and do spot jogging or play handball with my family. As he puts it, our stay needs a little bit of sunshine daily. This helps the body to work perfectly.

Going out with a bike or a balloon for an hour gives some really enjoyable exercising experience. Moreover, while outside, I have often discovered some new games to play alone or with friends. My friends called me innovative. This made me proud and confident about what I can do.

My Favourite Games

I don't have a single favourite game. While outside, I love climbing trees. Whenever I go to a new garden, a park, or any rural areas, I constantly look for new trees to climb. Also, I love playing roadside cricket with my friends. The cricket matches on the TV channels are a treat to watch.

I also love group games that have some entertainment. For example, the good old hide-and-seek with variations. Sometimes we would count on 100, while sometimes on 10. We would also occasionally keep a home base to run as well as tag. Thus made it a safe spot. Sometimes, I just wait for my friends to find me out. Even when I am with my family, I love playing charades and chess.

Essay on “Importance of Games and Sports in Schools and Colleges” English Essay for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 CBSE Students

Importance of Games and Sports in Schools and Colleges

Games and sports are as important as food, education and other essential things for children. Games and sports are an important means of recreation. These days, students are busy in studies. They have a lot of books and a number of subjects to study. They need some change, which can be given by sports. The outdoor games and sports refresh the students and make them able to regain their lost energy. The games and sports generate mental freshness and the students take interest to study more.

Games and sports are also very useful for good health. The outdoor games are more useful, where the students share the company of nature and breathe fresh air. They get lot of physical exercises while playing games outside in the play ground. It keeps them physically and mentally fit. The games and sports make the students active which is very important in that age.

The games and sports teach students the value of discipline, team-work, leadership, judgement, courage and determination to win. These things also help the students to develop their traits of personality, which is very important to build up a talented person.

The games and sports teach them the requirement of sacrifice, discipline, grace, generosity and firmness, which empower them to lead in the life successfully. These kinds of traits in a man bring super fineness to act effectivity irrespective of the situation and the task that they come across. The citizens with such potentiality can contribute much for the society and the nation to which they belong.

Games also provide an outlet for the surplus fat and weight and keep the students strong and active. This aspect is essential to keep the students healthy. The sports activities are the best means to utilize the time in a positive manner. They do not waste the time in loitering and going for undesirable activities.

India is the second most populated country in the world. We should have high standard in all sports. But the fact is otherwise. We need to find out some way. To generate the sports activities, the best institutions are schools and colleges. It is necessary to make sports compulsory in all schools and colleges for enabling a number of students to participate in sports. It will also facilitate the country to select the best teams out of the crowd.

There are certain other advantages as well. Good sportsmen become popular in society. They earn name and fame for themselves, for their institution and the nation.

The sports provide numerous opportunities to the students who are good and position holders. They get good jobs in good organisations. The sportsmen are given preference over others. There are many sportsmen who have chosen the sport as their career. They get good money and chance for travelling to different sites, places and countries and enjoy the life.

We see that most of the good sportsmen are from western and other developed countries. The reasons are obvious. They play games and sports right from childhood and from primary schools. India is progressing rapidly. We are now capable to afford expenditure on sports activities right from primary standard to enable us to improve the image of the country in the sports. That can be possible only when the children are provided opportunity right from the beginning. If required the sports can be made a compulsory subject and marks can be added in the result, which will attract the students towards hard work with interest to excel in sports. That will create formula to generate more and more sportsmen. The Government and the school administration have to ensure adequate sports facilities in all the schools and colleges. That will inspire the students to participate with greater interest.

It is very clear that games and sports have a great value in life. The games should be played keeping their nobility in mind. The nobility of the games should be maintained. There is a need to create sports atmosphere in all the schools and colleges for attracting maximum number of students to participate in the events. The teachers need to ensure that the students are given opportunity to show real talent, grace, dignity, and generosity. The students should be motivated for maximum participation in sports to gain real benefit out of games. Many Indian sportsmen have won laurels for the country on many occasions. The aim of every student should be to achieve good position in sports activities.

Essay the Sports and Games for class 10

Essay the  Sports and Games for class 10

Sports and games are as necessary for character building as education. A child may learn from the textbook, but for how long?  Maybe until the last day of exams.  Then it may be that with the passage of time in life he will not only just forget it ever with an equal degree of effectiveness. The clear-cut interference is that, if education is the car, then sports and games are the keys to derive success. Hazrat Ali (R.A), said that:-

‘‘A healthy mind can realize Allah.’’ (Quotation)

Games are the source of keeping the body healthy and fit. In light of so much crucial importance of sports and games, one may say they are not less than other necessities of life. Realizing this very fact, developed countries have made games an essential part of education at the school level. Specific sports teachers are hired to instruct the students to keep their body fit. The chief objective of sports is, of course, body exercise. Moreover, different matches and competitions are held to develop the spirit of sportsmanship.

‘‘A sound body has a sound mind.’’ (Quotations)

One thing must be kept in mind that ‘‘all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.’’ A dull boy is not one who does not stand first in his class but one who is not physically and mentally fit and has developed poor reflexes towards his daily activities including studies. Sports and games enable a student in particular and all others in general to improve and sharpen their reflexes.

essay sports and games for  10th class

The ancient Egyptians are said to be the pioneers of sports but according to history, the games were actually refined in the period of the Greeks. The Greeks introduced many games. For the first time, they played games to build up their bodies and to become strong rather than to cherish themselves. Sports flourished in the Greek era and it made them the strongest people of that time. The Romans followed the Greeks and build up their interest in chariot racing which was thought to be a royal game.

Thus, different civilizations made games, which suited their lifestyle and tradition. The Spanish had bullfights, the Japanese had their martial arts, and so on. Different people developed games and the Greek concept started to make sense when sports made people’s mind keener and their bodies stronger.

‘‘Sports combine the instincts with bold mass and effort.’’ (Quotation)

These days with the affluence of technology and machines, men do not use their limbs as much as they used to do before and thus suffer from lack of exercise, it has been proved and verified that sports and games are essential for health. Sports and games a very important role in our lives. The mere academic and literary life is not sufficient. Our body actually needs sports and games to work properly.

We should also have a clear distinction between sports and games in our minds. All those things which are played according to some definite rules and regulations are termed as games whereas all those, which deport follow the strict rules and regulations but just, come under physical exercise, are called sports. For example in general, sports include hunting, fishing, riding, cycling, etc. on the other hand games include cricket hockey, football squash, etc. thus sports and games teach us a number of good moral and spiritual aspects.

The best thing that sports and games teach or inculcate among the players is the sense of sports-man ship. This very sense makes a person behave honestly, comparatively, boldly, and patiently not only on the field but also off the field. He or she begins to be more modest and humble along with extra-ordinary hard work in his or her practical life.

“Games and sports when the mental horizon of players and make them True followers of the rule of law.” (Quotation)

It is, therefore, essential that Government should work out a long-term national sports policy. Students should be taught by the teachers the advantage of games in the school itself. Various games and sports should also be popularized and encouraged in rural areas of our country because nearly sixty-four percent of the population of our country lives in villages. We can produce many sportsmen at the international level. Both Government and society should encourage sportsmen and sportswomen and should be given honor and big monetary incentives to them. In short, sports and games are really among the most constructive activities in the world. If organized they do miracles for the gangsters of the nation and make them fit and alert enough to handle future affairs freshly, healthily, and superbly.

Value of Games and Sports Essay

Benefits of Games and Sports

Parents and teachers always push children to study hard and score excellent marks. But how do you think they will be able to concentrate well and grasp things faster? To focus on such matters, they need a healthy mind, and a healthy mind resides only in a healthy body. They can keep both their physical and mental health fit by participating in games and sports. So, this is the main benefit of games and sports discussed in the value of games and sports essay 150 words.

Games and sports are also an excellent way to distract their mind from stress and worries. When they get bored of studying or experience a lack of motivation to do anything, see how a game of chess or swimming cheers and relaxes them. Apart from this recreational advantage, the value of games and sports essay emphasises that they also help in character building of children. Besides, they will learn important skills like teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. Games and sports will also instil in them values of honesty, discipline, confidence, and responsibility.

Difference between Games and Sports

A game usually involves more than one player or team, and its main aim is enjoyment or recreation. On the other hand, a sport focuses on the individual skills of a person rather than the teamwork involved in a game. Sports can be played either for recreation or as a competition. If games emphasise the collective performance of all the players, sports lay importance on the skills and talents of a single individual. The participants of a game are called players, while those of sports are called athletes or sportspersons.

The value of games and sports essay 150 words further describes that a sport is usually conducted with a competitive spirit rather than a friendly match of a game. Six Austin-area high school soccer teams hope this week ends with a state championship

Vandegrift's Aryan Sunder dribbles the ball in the second half of the Vipers' regional quarterfinal victory on April 2. Vandegrift is one of two Austin-area boys teams that made this year's UIL state soccer tournament. In all, a record six Central Texas boys and girls teams are in the state tournament field.

The Austin-area high school soccer scene has flexed some muscle this postseason. At the UIL state tournament that runs through Saturday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, a record six Central Texas schools are part of the field chasing the ultimate prize.

Vandegrift’s boys and Westlake’s girls carry the area’s torch in Class 6A, while the Glenn boys, Hendrickson girls and Rouse girls make up the local sides in 5A. And Salado's girls made the Class 4A field.

Here’s what you need to know going into the start of the Class 5A tournament Thursday and the Class 6A bracket Friday:

Austin area's best chance at a state title?

The Vandegrift boys.

The Vipers are solid all around with future college players — and maybe a possible pro — up and down the roster. Seniors Emmy Aranda and Yandel Andrade are legit stars and sophomore Luke Hawley could be the area’s next big thing.

More: 30 Austin-area soccer players having breakout seasons

Vandegrift is also in good shape if it goes to a shootout with goalkeeper Charlie Reed, who's in his first year playing in high school after being part of the Austin FC academy. He'll play at Clemson in the fall, as one of the top players at the position in the state.

And while every Austin-area school has a brutal draw, the four Class 6A boys teams all have similar records.

Five Austin-area players to watch at state

∙ Tito Don Juan, Glenn: A dynamic player, the midfielder has eye-popping numbers of 25 goals and 23 assists and is a big reason the Grizzlies are undefeated at 29-0-1.

∙ Kaylee McKinley, Hendrickson: Has tallied an impressive 25 goals on the season, including two in the regional finals during a 3-2 win over Georgetown.

∙ Kylie Snell, Rouse: With 15 goals and 21 assists, Snell is always around the ball and playing a part in the Raiders’ offense. But the Raiders also have three other players who have scored 15 goals in Lilly Arellano, Jessica Aldrich and Mia Merz.

∙ Rory Jacops, Vandegrift: As steady as they come at center back, he leads a Vipers back line that gives up well under a goal per game.

∙ Kate Grannis, Westlake: The senior forward is a threat up top every time she touches the ball and scored the Chaps’ game-winning goal in the regional final.

Area coaches: five newcomers at state

Westlake's Darci Carruthers is the only one among the six Austin-area coaches who has been to the state tournament before. She led the Chaps to an appearance in 2022.

Glenn’s Marcus Edmondson has guided the Grizzlies to state for the first time in the school’s short history, while Rouse’s Corey Elrod has the Raiders at state for the second time as a program following an appearance in 2017. Hendrickson’s Kevin McKinley has the Hawks back at state for the first time since they won Class 6A in 2017, while Vandegrift third-year coach Jonathan Winship leads the Vipers to state for the first time in program history.

The rest of the field: Class 5A is loaded

Both of the girls' teams for Hendrickson and Rouse play Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex opponents in Colleyville Heritage and Frisco Wakeland that are both undefeated.

If the Austin-area schools advance, it would be the first state final between two local schools in state soccer tournament history.

Meanwhile, the Glenn boys play Frisco Wakeland, which has five losses but is traditionally one of the better programs in the state. The winner takes on Midlothian or Baytown Goose Creek Memorial.

More: Six Austin-area soccer teams advance to the state tournament, most ever for Central Texas

In Class 6A, the Westlake girls play Rockwall, with the other side of the bracket featuring Prosper and Katy Seven Lakes.

Vandegrift and its opponent Lewisville Flower Mound have identical 22-2-2 records, with the other side of the boys' bracket featuring defending state champion Katy Seven Lakes and Prosper.

The Austin area has a strong recent history, with the Dripping Springs boys being the Class 6A runner-up last year and the Lake Travis boys winning Class 6A in 2022. The Dripping Springs girls won Class 5A in 2021.

Players to watch: Rockwall boasts numerous seniors, including Oklahoma commit Juliette Rayo , who scored 26 goals this past regular season. Senior goalies Layla Amaya and Faith Graves posted 11 and 9 shutouts, respectively. Amaya is committed to Sam Houston State and Graves is a Texas Woman’s University pledge.

Rockwall falls to Austin Westlake on late goal in 6A girls state semifinal

GEORGETOWN — AJ Carlson’s goal in the 71st minute put a dagger in Rockwall’s hopes of winning a state championship.

The junior midfielder’s timely score was just enough to power Austin Westlake to a 1-0 win over Rockwall in the 6A state seminal on Friday at Birkelbach Field.

Rockwall (21–4–2) senior midfielder Ayla Garcia tried for a penalty kick in the 29th minute after a foul on the previous play. Her shot was saved by Westlake (17–4–2) sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Martin. Garcia made another shot after the miss, but the ball sailed over the goal.

“They gave it their all,” first-year Rockwall coach Kristov Martinez said. “I told them it’s life. You’ve got to learn sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Unfortunately we’re coming up on the losing end this time.”

Colleyville Heritage has won 13 games in a row, outscoring the opposition 74-9 during the winning streak.

Colleyville Heritage 4, Pflugerville Hendrickson 1

Heritage cruises past Hendrickson, returns to state final for first time since 2011

GEORGETOWN — Colleyville Heritage played one heck of an exciting soccer match, and for that, it will take its 24th win of the season into the Class 5A state championship game.

Making their first state tournament appearance since 2011 and their fourth in program history on Thursday, the Colleyville Heritage girls (24–0–2) cruised to a 4-1 victory over Pflugerville Hendrickson (21–4–2) in the Class 5A state semifinal at Birkelbach Field.

Colleyville Heritage scored three goals in the first half, two by freshman forward Addison Shimmick. Her score on a kick from about 35 yards out in the 39th minute helped Colleyville Heritage to a 3-1 halftime lead.

Previous appearances at state: 4 (2011, 2018, 2021, 2022)

State titles: 3 (2011, 2018, 2022)

Notable: Wakeland is trying to become the 10th Dallas-area girls team in UIL history — and the first Frisco ISD school — to win state with an undefeated record. If Wakeland can win its fourth state title this week, it would move into a tie with Plano for third-most in UIL history. Wakeland has had 19 different players score a goal this season, and the team has 19 shutouts. Wakeland hasn’t allowed a goal in its five playoff games and has posted a shutout in eight of its last nine games.

Players to watch: Wakeland has three college recruits — junior goalkeeper Claire Manis (committed to Idaho), senior midfielder LG Moncrief (signed with Ball State) and senior midfielder/forward Dayleigh Bos (signed with Colorado College). Sophomore Audrey Gilbert leads Wakeland with 21 goals and scored the only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Frisco Reedy in the Class 5A Region II final. Sophomore Morgan Landry has 15 goals and a team-high 14 assists, freshman Dilan Pistorious has scored 12 goals and sophomore Sofia Rodriguez has 10 assists.

Frisco Wakeland 1, Leander Rouse 0 (PK, 4-2)

Frisco Wakeland survives penalty shootout, downs Leander Rouse in girls 5A state semifinal

GEORGETOWN — Considering the physical play and clutch saves throughout Frisco Wakeland ’s 5A state semifinal match against Leander Rouse, overtime seemed inevitable.

Neither team had scored by the end of regulation on Thursday afternoon, though they tried. Tied at zero, Wakeland and Rouse (20–5–3) each had six shots with five shots on goal.

Still tied after the two, 10-minute overtime periods, Wakeland outshot Rouse 4-2 in penalty kicks to advance to Saturday’s state championship game. Junior goalkeeper Claire Manis made two huge saves as her teammates made all four of their shootout attempts at Birkelbach Field.

“God gave me the strength and the mental strength to stay [focused],” said Manis, who made four saves in 60 minutes played. “I’m so grateful that I get to share this win with them, and I’m just so excited.”

Essay; Bailing Out Moscow

We have just been told by a well-placed informant inside the Kremlin that the Soviet Union is not the economic power our intelligence analysts have long thought it was.

Throughout the Reagan years, our experts have assumed that Soviet growth averaged slightly over 3 percent yearly. That is a vital statistic: we then put a price each year on what we know the Soviet military machine cost, and get what we hope is a clear idea of what percentage of its economy Moscow is devoting to armament.

That's just about the most important intelligence number of all. In the 70's, a ''Team B'' of outsiders was brought in by the C.I.A. to challenge the conventional wisdom, and doubled the previous estimate to 13 percent in the Soviet Union. That laid the basis for our own increased defense spending, which now amounts to 6 percent of our gross national product.

In a little-noted passage of his long speech last week to his Central Committee, Mikhail Gorbachev made a stunning revelation that kicks our estimates into a cocked hat.

He pointed out that during the Brezhnev years, economic growth had been artificially hiked by the sale of oil at high prices (the U.S.S.R. is the world's largest producer) and the accelerated sale of vodka (Soviet spending on alcohol may have reached 10 percent of total output, compared with less than 2 percent of ours).

''If we purge economic growth indicators of the influence of these factors,'' said Mr. Gorbachev, ''it turns out that, basically, for four five-year periods there was no increase in the absolute growth of the national income and, at the beginning of the 80's, it had even begun to fall. That is the real picture, comrades!''

No doubt the current Kremlin leader is trying to make the present bad economic picture look better by saying the old days under his predecessor were really much worse. But we should allow for the possibility that, concerning the 80's at least, Mr. Gorbachev may be telling the truth.

If that is the real picture, comrades, we have to do some fast reassessing of our own. During the 80's, as the price of oil has been cut in half, and the Soviet gulping of booze has been restricted, the total Soviet output is not likely to have risen much, if at all, from what Mr. Gorbachev says was its falling state in 1980.

Here is what that new assessment leads us to deduce: the Soviet economy has been stagnant (or possibly declining) for seven years - most definitely not growing steadily at the over-3-percent rate per year our analysts had been assuming. That means our assessment of total growth of about one-fourth in this decade has been egregiously mistaken. That supposedly seven-foot giant turns out to be closer to five feet tall, same as he was in the Brezhnev years.

Apply that new assessment to arms control. The way we estimate Soviet arms expenditures is by simple bean-counting, mainly from satellites, and that total is not affected. What does change is the percentage of the output devoted to arms; if it was 14 percent by the old assessment, it must be an unbearable 20 percent in the new reality Mr. Gorbachev reveals.

Thus, under pressure to reduce arms spending, he seeks treaties; forced to cut losses, he announces withdrawal from Afghanistan and may offer to reduce subsidies in Central America; faced with the prospect of having to match serious Star Wars spending, he rails at the idea of strategic defense.

Apply that no-growth, one-fourth-smaller fact to economic diplomacy. It explains why the Russians finally settled the old Czarist debt for a dime on the dollar, paving the way for a recent $77 million Soviet bond issue. That's also why the Kremlin will be seeking entry into the International Monetary Fund, GATT and the World Bank at the next meetings (in West Berlin) this fall. Soviet Communism is starving for capital.

Our European allies are rushing to lend Moscow money and to subsidize pipelines, while accommodationists here want to offer the Russians most-favored-nation status on trade. Commerce and State Department detenteniks await only vague ''economic reforms'' to end our opposition to Soviet entry into Western credit markets.

Here is a genuine issue to toss at the candidates in our election. In light of what the Soviet leader admits is ''a very serious financial problem,'' should U.S. policy seek to finance our adversary? Or should we ''stress'' Moscow now, as it surely would do to us if the roles were reversed?

Or should we use this moment of admitted Soviet economic weakness to put an irrevocable, verifiable, behavior-modifying price on every concession we confer?

College basketball transfer portal 2024: Ranking top 60 players as Kentucky, Mark Pope enter market

Here are the best transfers in the portal so far during college basketball's 2024 offseason.

Syndication: The Courier-Journal

Kentucky basketball announced the hiring of Mark Pope as its next basketball coach on Friday. Pope, who spent the last five years as BYU's coach, will need to hit the ground running in recruiting as he steps in to one of the most high-pressure jobs anywhere in sports.

It was proven again in the 2023-24 season at places like South Florida and Utah State that first-year coaches can enter and have early success by flipping their rosters through the transfer portal. The expectation at UK will be for Pope to do the same. Is it possible that a couple of players from the Wildcats' 2023-24 roster could return? Absolutely. Is it possible that a couple of freshmen who signed with the program under John Calipari could still choose to attend Kentucky? Of course.

But the safe bet is that Pope's first roster at Kentucky will have more transfers than the combined total of returners or freshman signees. So who will Pope and the Wildcats pursue? Here's a look at the top 60 players on the move in this year's transfer cycle.

The spring portal window runs from March 18 to May 1. However, players who have entered the portal by then don't face a firm deadline on when they must commit. Additionally, graduate transfers and players impacted by coaching changes that occur after May 1 will be able to transfer after the deadline. Players who have also entered the NBA Draft will have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern on May 29 to withdraw if they wish to return to college for the 2024-25 season.

As players enter the portal, we will rank the best of them here. The rankings will be updated regularly as players either enter the portal or announce their intentions to enter the portal.

Check out the latest transfer portal updates from 247Sports

1. Johnell Davis

Old school: FAU

Davis played a key role in taking FAU to the 2023 Final Four and built on his breakout season by upping his scoring average to 18.2 points in 2023-24. The 6-foot-4 guard hit 41.4% of his 3-pointers, pulled down 6.3 rebounds and averaged 1.4 steals for the Owls in his fourth season of college basketball. He's only got one season left to play and is also testing the NBA Draft waters.

2. Tucker DeVries

Old school: Drake  | New school: West Virginia

DeVries won Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year twice during three seasons while playing for his father, Darian DeVries. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in 2023-24. He's a career 35.9% 3-point shooter and dynamic offensive threat. DeVries is following his father, who accepted the West Virginia job.

3. Zeke Mayo

Old school: South Dakota State  |  New school: Kansas

Mayo earned Summit League Player of the Year after averaging 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists for a South Dakota State team that won the conference. He's a career 38.8% 3-point shooter and scored 19 points on just 11 shots against Iowa State's vicious defense in an NCAA Tournament loss. There is a strong recent track record of Summit League Players of the Year transferring up. Max Abmas was the leading scorer for Texas this season after winning the award twice in his career at Oral Roberts. Baylor Scheierman has also been a star at Creighton the past two seasons after winning Summit League POTY at SDSU in 2022.

4. Mark Mitchell

Old school:  Duke

Mitchell started 67 games in his two seasons at Duke after ranking as a five-star prospect in the Class of 2022. The 6-foot-9 forward is a dynamic athlete who played mostly at small forward in 2022-23 before sliding to power forward this past season. He averaged 11.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 54% shooting from the floor this past year. With two seasons of eligibility remaining and NBA-caliber upside, Mitchell will be one of the top prizes of this offseason.

5. AJ Storr

Old school: Wisconsin

Storr provided a significant jolt of offense for Wisconsin in the 2023-24 season, averaging 16.8 points. The 6-foot-6 wing is a multi-level scorer with the size needed to finish in the paint and around the rim. If surrounded with other dynamic playmakers who can share the offensive burden, it should allow Storr increase his efficiency after he shot 43.4% from the floor for the Badgers.

6. Vladislav Goldin

Goldin averaged 15.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game on an insanely efficient 67.3% shooting from the floor for FAU in 2023-24. The 7-foot-1 Russian is a rugged and seasoned veteran who impacts both ends of the floor. He is a particularly strong asset on offense, despite the fact that he's never attempted a 3-pointer.

7. Clifford Omoruyi

Old school: Rutgers

Entering the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Omoruyi's 93 blocks ranked fourth nationally. The 6-foot-11 center is an elite rim protector with consecutive Big Ten All-Defense honors. Omoruyi also averaged double figures in each of the last three seasons and posted 29 double-doubles in his four years with Rutgers. He can't do much away from the rim offensively but is excellent defensively.

8. Tramon Mark

Old school: Arkansas

Mark averaged 16.2 points on 48% shooting for Arkansas in 2023-24 after spending the first three years of his career at Houston. The 6-foot-5 guard is just a career 32% 3-point shooter, but he's a battle-tested veteran with the ability to go out and get buckets in a variety of ways.

9. Oumar Ballo

Old school:  Arizona

Ballo's size at 7-feet and 260 pounds makes him a difficult player for opponents to manage. He averaged 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds in 2023-24 for Arizona on 65.8% shooting. There isn't much versatility to his game, and Ballo's free-throw shooting dipped to a career-worst 49.5% this past season. But he's a productive bruiser with a proven track record at an elite program.

10. Robbie Avila

Old school: Indiana State

Avila became a college basketball cult hero while earning all-MVC honors as a sophomore. The 6-foot-10 center averaged 17.4 points and 6.6 rebounds on 53.6% shooting for an Indiana State team that finished 32-7. Avila is great around the rim but also shot 39.4% from 3-point range on 4.2 attempts per game, which makes him a rarity among bigs in college basketball.

11. Kevin Miller

Old school: Wake Forest

Miller averaged 15.6 points, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals while starting all 35 games for Wake Forest in 2023-24. The 6-foot guard is a career 36.5% 3-point shooter and hit 84.5% of his free throws for the Demon Deacons. He's been prone to turnovers but is an offensive spark plug with a proven body of work in a major conference.

12. Tony Perkins

Old school:   Iowa

Perkins averaged 14 points, 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals while starting all 34 games for Iowa as a senior. Following 126 career appearances for the Hawkeyes, he should make a significant impact at his next destination. Though just a career 31.7% 3-point shooter, Perkins is a physical guard at 6-foot-4 who can attack the basket. He also rated as Iowa's top defender in the 2023-24 season, per  evanmiya.com .

13. Meechie Johnson

Old school:   South Carolina  | New school: Ohio State

Johnson wasn't necessarily South Carolina's best all-around player. But the 6-foot-2 guard did lead the Gamecocks in scoring at 14.1 points per game in 2023-24 during his second season in the program. Johnson began his career at Ohio State and will have one season of eligibility remaining as he returns to his home state to finish out his career with the Buckeyes.

14. Darlinstone Dubar

Old school: Hofstra

Dubar is a 6-foot-6 wing who averaged 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds on 39.9% 3-point shooting for a 20-win Hofstra team. He began his career at Iowa State , starting seven games for the Cyclones in 2020-21. As a fifth-year player with a proven shot and good size, he'll have opportunities to return to a major conference. Alabama guard Aaron Estrada is a recent example of a quality high-major player to come through Hofstra.

15. Kobe Johnson

Old school: USC  | New school: UCLA

Johnson stood out as an elite defender for USC, collecting 2.2 steals per game and rating as one of the top players on that side of the ball in the Pac-12. The 6-foot-5 wing also scored 10.9 points per game in 2023-24. Though just a career 32.9% 3-point shooter, Johnson has some chops as a distributor and will be a plug-and-play veteran at his next stop.

16.  Cade Tyson

Old school:  Belmont

Tyson is a career 44.6% 3-point shooter on 287 attempts over two seasons with Belmont. At 6-foot-7 with a demonstrated outside stroke, he could be an impact player for a high-major program. How Tyson will translate defensively to a higher level is likely the biggest question mark here.

17.  Brandon Garrison

Old school:  Oklahoma State

Garrison showed glimpses of why he was a top-50 prospect and McDonald's All-American in the Class of 2023 during his freshman season at Oklahoma State. There are offensive strides to be made, but Garrison blocked 1.5 shots per game in just 22.7 minutes and has three seasons of eligibility remaining to continue realizing his potential.

18. Jonas Aidoo

Old school: Tennessee

Aidoo took significant strides as a junior during the 2023-24 season, averaging 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as a full-time starter for the Volunteers. At 6-foot-11, he registered as one of the most impactful defenders in the SEC. However, Aidoo did struggle in the rare instances when he was matched up against the sport's top bruisers such as Hunter Dickinson, Ryan Kalkbrenner and Zach Edey.

19.  Jevon Porter

Old school:   Pepperdine

Porter ranked as a top-100 prospect in the Class of 2022 and earned honorable mention All-WCC honors this season while averaging 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and one block per game. The 6-foot-11 younger brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. is a career 32.5% 3-point shooter and could get high-major interest because of his size, pedigree and flashes of perimeter shooting.

20.  Malik Mack

Old school:  Harvard

Mack's efficiency dipped down the stretch, but it was still a phenomenal freshman season for the 6-foot-1 guard, who averaged 17.2 points and 4.8 assists per game. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year finished with 18 points and six assists at  Boston College  and scored 27 at  Indiana  during the first month of his college career. It was an impressive peek at what he's capable of against high-major opposition.

21. PJ Haggerty

Old school:  Tulsa | New school: Memphis

Haggerty averaged 21.2 points on 54% shooting inside the arc for Tulsa in 2023-24. What separates the 6-foot-3 guard from some of the other volume scorers in the portal is that he has three seasons left to play. Instead of merely serving as a one-year rental, he could potentially develop into a three-year rotational mainstay. And if he develops his 3-point shot, he could be a high-level college star.

22. Alijah Martin

Martin was a three-time all-conference performer at FAU while appearing in 124 games across four seasons under Dusty May. The 6-foot-2 guard is a good defender for his size and a career 36.9% 3-point shooter. He's more of a shooting guard than a point guard and has proven he can make substantive contributions to a winning program.

23. Ryan Conwell

Old school:  Indiana State

Conwell is a 6-foot-4 guard who hit 40.7% of his 3-point attempts on 7.1 tries per game as a sophomore at Indiana State. He finished second on the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game and dished out 2.5 assists. Considering that Conwell also rates as a quality defender, he should garner significant interest as he hits the market with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

24.  BJ Freeman

Old school:  Milwaukee

Freeman was a busy man the past two years at Milwaukee, leading a pair of 20-win teams in scoring. In 2023-24, he also led the Panthers in rebounds (6.6), assists (4.1) and steals (1.1). At 6-foot-6, he's both a good solo shot creator and can facilitate for others. His results against high-major opposition were mixed in a limited sample size over the past two years, but Freeman can help a good team.

25. Jalen Blackmon

Old school: Stetson

Blackmon turned heads nationally with his 43-point outburst in the ASUN Tournament title game. The 6-foot-3 guard hit 38.1% of his 3-pointers on 8.3 attempts per game in the 2023-24 season and is a career 90.6% free-throw shooter. The Indiana native has only one season of eligibility remaining but has proven himself worthy of a shot to shine on the sport's big stage.

26. Rylan Griffen

Old school: Alabama Griffen averaged 11.2 points on 39.2% 3-point shooting while starting 33 games as a sophomore for Alabama. The former top-50 prospect has good size as an off-ball guard at 6-foot-5. Though he didn't register as a high-impact defender, Griffen is an appealing transfer because of his demonstrated record of offensive efficiency for a high-level program.

27. Jacob Crews

Old school:   UT Martin  | New school: Missouri

Crews shot 41.4% from 3-point range on 6.7 attempts per game as a junior for a UT Martin team that won a share of the OVC regular-season title. He also yanked down 8.2 rebounds per game for the Skyhawks. There are questions about his defense, but at 6-7 and with a good shooting stroke, he is big pickup for Missouri. The Tigers are coming off a winless SEC campaign and need help.

28. Dug McDaniel

Old school: Michigan  | New school: Kansas State

McDaniel averaged 16.3 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 36.8% from 3-point range on 5.8 attempts for a bad Michigan team. The 5-11 guard also rated as the Wolverines' top defender, per evanmiya.com. Although his offensive numbers dipped against Big Ten foes, the former four-star prospect will help a team needing to upgrade its guard play.

29. Myles Rice

Old school: Washington State

Rice defeated cancer and helped lead Washington State to its first NCAA Tournament since 2008. With coach Kyle Smith off to Stanford, it was no surprise to see Rice hit the portal. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 14.8 points, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals for the Cougars and should have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He needs to improve his 3-point shot (27.5% on 3.7 attempts per game) and bulk up. But there is a lot to like about his trajectory.

30. Kanaan Carlyle

Old school:   Stanford

Carlyle averaged 11.5 points and 2.7 assists per game in his freshman season at Stanford after ranking as a four-star prospect in the Class of 2023. His best games came against  Arizona  and  Washington State , which were both NCAA Tournament teams. With three seasons of eligibility remaining and a proven body of work at the high-major level, there is some upside here.

31. Otega Oweh

Old school:  Oklahoma

Oweh's production and efficiency dropped dramatically during the grind of Big 12 play after his sophomore season began with tantalizing glimpses of offensive promise. But while his game remains a work in progress, the 6-foot-5 wing is already a great defender. With two years left to play, Oweh is worth a swing for a team in need of perimeter defense.

32.  Ja'Kobi Gillespie

Old school:  Belmont |  New school:  Maryland

Belmont was at its best with Gillespie on the floor; he averaged 17.2 points, 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals for the Bruins. The 6-foot guard is on the smaller side but shot a ridiculous 66% inside the arc and a solid 38.7% beyond it. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, he's a good addition for a Maryland team that needs help in the backcourt.

33. Kylan Boswell

Old school: Arizona

Boswell started 35 games for Arizona as a sophomore, averaging 9.6 points and 3.6 assists while shooting 37.9% from 3-point range. The 6-foot-2 guard isn't particularly explosive or rangy, which means he has limitations as a driver and defender. But he's sure-handed and produced a solid track record of perimeter shooting in two years with the Wildcats.

34.  Saint Thomas

Old school:   Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado produced a gem last cycle in  Dalton Knecht . Can it come through again? Thomas is a vastly different player but nonetheless intriguing. At 6-foot-7, he averaged 19.7 points, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals while making 57.2% of his 2-pointers and 33% of his 3s in 2023-24. The dynamic forward began his career at  Loyola Chicago  and has just one season left to play.

35. J'Vonne Hadley

Old school: Colorado

Though only a role player on a team oozing talent, the 6-foot-6 wing did a lot for the Buffaloes, averaging 11.6 points, six rebounds and 2.4 assists. He attempted just 1.3 shots from 3-point range but hit 41.7% of them, and he was efficient inside the arc (56.5%). How he might translate into a larger role is tough to project, but the combination of size and skill make him intriguing.

36. Koren Johnson

Old school: Washington

Johnson earned Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year honors while averaging 11.1 points, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals for Washington. The 6-foot-2 guard is a career 35.1% 3-point shooter over his two seasons and also rates as a good defender for his size.

37.  Tyrin Lawrence

Old school:  Vanderbilt

Lawrence is a 6-foot-4 guard with 105 career appearances for an SEC program under his belt. Though just a career 28.7% 3-point shooter, he's a good defender and averaged better than 13 points per game the past two seasons. He is the type of seasoned veteran with a track record of production who could provide reliable minutes for a good high-major program.

38. Danny Wolf

Old school:  Yale

Wolf averaged 14.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks for a Yale team that reached the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. He is more fluid, nimble and versatile than a typical seven-footer. Wolf can attack defenders off the dribble, hit 3-pointers or post up. He has two seasons left, and his rare combination of size and tools make him one of this offseason's most interesting transfer prospects.

39. Terrence Edwards

Old school: James Madison  | New school: Louisville

Edwards was the leading scorer at 17.2 points per game for a James Madison team that finished 32-4 with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-6 guard also dished out 3.4 assists for the Dukes after making significant productivity strides in all four years he was at JMU.

40. Jordan Pope

Old school: Oregon State

Pope averaged 17.6 points and 3.4 assists while shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc for Oregon State as a sophomore in 2023-24. The 6-foot-2 guard needs to improve defensively but is a proven high-major scorer with two years of eligibility remaining.

41. Skyy Clark

Old school: Louisville  | New school: UCLA

After spending one season at Illinois , Clark transferred to Louisville and led the moribund Cardinals in scoring during the 2023-24 season at 13.2 points per game. His career 1:1 assist-turnover ratio is unappealing, but if the former top-40 prospect can fit in with the Bruins, he can turn things around.

42. Seth Trimble

Old school: North Carolina

Trimble played a vital role off the bench for North Carolina as a sophomore, proving to be a shutdown defender and occasional source of offensive juice. The former top-40 prospect seemingly would have been in line for an expanded role as a junior with the Tar Heels. Depending on where he lands, the 6-foot-3 guard is likely to have all-conference potential.

43. Houston Mallette

Old school:  Pepperdine | New school: Alabama

Mallette is a career 37.5% 3-point shooter on 512 attempts over three seasons at Pepperdine. The 6-foot-5 guard upped his mark to a career-best 41.5% in 2023-24 and had big games against quality foes like Indiana State and UNLV . Alabama wasted little time snatching up Mallette. His combination of size and shooting ability should make him a natural fit with the Crimson Tide.

44. Great Osobor

Old school: Utah State

Osobor earned Mountain West Player of the Year honors after averaging 17.7 points, nine rebounds and 1.4 blocks for a Utah State team that won a strong league. The 6-foot-8 big man does his work in the paint and hasn't shown much of an outside shot, but his effectiveness as an interior scorer is tremendous.

45. Aaron Bradshaw

Old school: Kentucky

Bradshaw struggled for minutes as a freshman while navigating a crowded Kentucky frontcourt. He was the No. 5 overall player in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports, and showed glimpses of promise during his lone season with the Wildcats. The 7-footer can step out and hit 3-pointers and is more mobile as a perimeter defender than most college centers.

46.  Malik Dia

Old school:   Belmont

Dia shined as a dynamic frontcourt player in his sophomore season at Belmont after playing sparingly during his freshman season at  Vanderbilt . He averaged 16.9 points and 5.8 boards for the Bruins while shooting 34.1% from 3-point range. He's 6-9 and has surprising athleticism for a player with such a big frame. His game needs refining, but Dia's upside is clear.

47. Dre Davis

Old school: Seton Hall

Davis averaged 15 points per game and shot 35% from 3-point range in his second season at Seton Hall. It was the fourth season of college basketball for the 6-foot-5 guard, who began his career at Louisville. He averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game during Seton Hall's five-game NIT title run.

48. Michael Ajayi

Old school: Pepperdine | New school: Gonzaga

Ajayi is 6-foot-7 and hit 47% of his 3-pointers on 2.5 attempts per game while averaging 17.2 points in his lone season at Pepperdine. While Ajayi was a rebounding force for the Waves with 9.9 per game, his defense is a question mark. He should be a natural fit at Gonzaga as the Bulldogs seek to build a deeper roster after struggling with depth in 2023-24.

49. Frankie Collins

Old school: Arizona State

Collins is only a career 30.8% 3-point shooter, but he is an excellent perimeter defender. The 6-foot-1 guard led the Pac-12 in steals at 2.6 per game during his second season at Arizona State. The former Michigan guard has one season of eligibility remaining.

50. Frankie Fidler

Old school: Omaha

Fidler finished second in the Summit League in scoring at 20.1 points per game. The 6-foot-7 forward hit 35.6% of his 3-point attempts in 2023-24 and was effective against Big 12 foes TCU and Texas Tech . Max Abmas ( Oral Roberts to Texas ) and Grant Nelson ( North Dakota State to Alabama) are recent examples of players from this league transferring up and playing big roles for good teams.

51. Riley Kugel

Old school: Florida  | New school: Kansas

Kugel is an interesting prospect with good tools and NBA upside; however, the 6-foot-5 wing regressed as a sophomore while shooting just 31.2% from 3-point range. If he can push that closer to 40% and cut back on his turnovers, then Kugel could blossom into an impact 3-and-D player.

52. Mason Gillis

Old school: Purdue

Gillis appeared in 132 games over five seasons at Purdue, serving as a reliable stretch forward while shooting 40.7% from 3-point range. The 6-foot-6 Gillis isn't much of a playmaker or shot creator off the dribble, but he's steady and fully capable of taking on a larger offensive diet than he did with a Boilermakers team that centered everything around Zach Edey.

53. Tre Donaldson

Old school: Auburn

Donaldson averaged 6.7 points, 3.2 assists and shot 41.2% from 3-point range in just 19.3 minute per game at Auburn in 2023-24. With two years of eligibility remaining, the 6-foot-2 Donaldson could be an impact player for a team with a significant role available.

54. Javon Small

Old school: Oklahoma State

Small averaged 15.1 points and 4.1 assists in his lone season at Oklahoma State after spending two years at East Carolina. The 6-foot-2 guard hit 37.4% of his 3-pointers for the Cowboys, although that mark dropped to 31.8% in conference play.

55. Roddy Gayle Jr.

Old school: Ohio State

Gayle is a physical shooting guard who can take defenders off the dribble and use his strength and athleticism to get good looks. He's just a career 33.1% 3-point shooter, but after averaging 13.5 points and 3.1 assists for the Buckeyes as a sophomore, Gayle has shown he can be productive at the high-major level.

56. Sean Pedulla

Old school: Virginia Tech

Pedulla was a mainstay in the Virginia Tech rotation for the past three seasons and led the Hokies in scoring during the 2023-24 campaign at 16.4 points per game. He is a career 35.5% 3-point shooter and dished out 4.6 assists per game during his junior year. The 6-foot-1 guard struggled with turnovers in 2023-24 (3.3 per game) but has enough offensive game to garner significant interest.

57.  Adou Thiero

Old school: Kentucky

Kentucky's most effective defensive lineups often featured Thiero. The tenacious 6-foot-6 wing guards and rebounds with a voracious appetite and can score attacking the rim. He's just a career 32.3% 3-point shooter and doesn't have a refined offensive game. Still, his 80% free-throw shooting mark in 2023-24 portends promise, and he could shine if given a greater and more consistent role.

58. Eric Dailey

Dailey was a bright spot for Oklahoma State during a down season, averaging 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 49.6% from the floor. The 6-foot-8 forward has three seasons left to play with promise as a versatile forward and the potential to impact both ends of the floor over a three-year period.
