Dowdell, Linda P. "Postulation of project management office structures in reducing operational risk of financial institutions." Thesis, University of Phoenix, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3691409.

This exploratory case study used a qualitative research method and explored how Project Management Offices (PMOs) and associated governance groups, such as project management, program management, portfolio management, and risk management, play an important role and are viewed as a positive contributing factor in the successful management of projects. The study also explored the perceived reduction of operational risk that would help prevent the likelihood of financial market collapse reoccurrences, and the perceived importance and impact of operational management structures of financial institutions in contributing to the prevention of another banking collapse. The following themes emerged in the study: Operational risk, regulatory groups, characteristics of PMO structures, optimal PMO structures, PMO effectiveness, and maturity levels of PMOs. A postulation to integrate PMO structures and associated governance groups in the accords (frameworks) of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) was proposed to help financial institutions reduce operational risks that affect consumers of financial services. A non-traditional survey-based case study was conducted with eight project management professionals with financial industry experience in the United States. The case study helped reveal that financial collapses were significantly related to the lack of PMO structures and integration of those structures into regulatory frameworks as mandates. This case study further found that to reduce the likelihood of another financial collapse, a change needs to be made to organizational structures by (a) implementing well-run PMOs and associated governance groups, and (b) integrating those structures into regulatory frameworks.

Herrera, Stephanie A. "Exemplary Leadership| A Mixed-Methods Case Study Discovering How Female Chief Executive Officers Create Meaning." Thesis, Brandman University, 2017. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10271696.

Purpose: The purpose of this thematic, mixed-methods case study was to identify and describe the behaviors that exemplary female chief executive officers (CEOs) use to create personal and organizational meaning for themselves and their followers through meaning-making domains: character, vision, relationships, wisdom, and inspiration. Additionally, it was the purpose of this study to determine the degree of importance to which followers perceived behaviors within the meaning-making domains.

Methodology: The exploratory mixed-methods case study was selected to gather insight into the behaviors of four female chief executive officers through interviews. Twelve of their employees were asked to complete an online survey. The results of both the qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys were then compared for triangulation.

Findings: The qualitative findings of this research suggest that exemplary female CEOs demonstrate behaviors from each of meaning-making domains (character, vision, relationships, wisdom, and inspiration), with character and vision as most significant to meaning making. Followers concurred with their quantitative input, finding the domains of character and relationships to be the most significant in creating meaning within the organization.

Conclusions: The study’s findings support the need for CEOs to integrate behaviors from each of the meaning-making domains (character, vision, relationships, wisdom, and inspiration) in order to create meaning for themselves and their followers. CEOs wishing to develop behaviors across these domains should make decisions based on a moral compass, invest in strategic planning, as well set aside time for reflection and self-development.

Recommendations: There is a need for further exploration in this area of study. Replication studies could identify differing populations, exemplary male CEOs, or look at other geographical locations. For a deeper look into this topic, a pure qualitative design approach is suggested. The 21 emerging themes also need a deeper understanding and each could contribute to its own study. Finally, it is highly advisable that studies be conducted in order to add to the body of knowledge on meaning-making leadership.

Collazo, Jose. "Impact of leadership style on innovation| A study of retired military senior officers in executive-level supervisory roles within the high-technology engineering defense industry." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3713895.

This study examined the relationship between leadership style and past military rank, and how these might impact an organization’s innovation climate. The sample consisted of (a) retired U.S. Army senior officers currently employed as executive-level supervisors in the high-technology engineering defense industry and (b) those working under such supervisors. Two leadership styles investigated in this study are transactional and transformational, the former defined by incentive structures based on pay and promotion according to performance, and the latter defined by charisma, inspiration, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Although these are not mutually exclusive styles, they are conceptually distinct operating modes. The former emphasizes hierarchy, while the latter emphasizes egalitarian relations. The hypothesis was that leaders with military background might habitually operate in transactional style, characteristic of hierarchical organizations where functionality benefits from conformity and lack of dissent as fundamental elements that enhance a high level of coordination. Conversely, research suggests that for-profit engineering-related businesses should benefit from innovation-enhancing characteristics linked with transformational leadership.

Quantitative data was gathered through self-report Likert-scale measures accessed online: the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) with subscales as independent variables and the Workplace Innovation Scale’s innovation climate subscale as a dependent variable. Rank as an independent variable was defined by dividing supervisor-group respondents into two comparison groups, an upper and lower tier. Supervisors and subordinates reported on their own or their supervisor’s leadership style, respectively, and innovation climate. The study aimed primarily to detect correlations between (a) MLQ scores and innovation climate and (b) past rank of supervisors and innovation climate.

Garcia, Munoz Alejandro. "Leadership competencies for effective hospital chief executive officers and chief medical officers in Mexico." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=1543405.

This study identified a leadership competency model for developing healthcare executives in Mexico based on the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Model. Eleven chief executive officers and chief medical officers were interviewed. They considered 86% of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) competencies as very important or vital and perceived a gap in the performance of these competencies. They also identified additional vital competencies beyond the scope of the NCHL's model. Participants also reported that leadership development and succession planning programs were lacking. Recommendations are to design a leadership development program using the NCHL model as a framework and further customizing the approach per the organization's unique mission, vision, strategy, values, and circumstances. The NCHL is offered as a general strategy for leader development that could be useful in the Mexican private healthcare industry, based on some "best practices" in the design and implementation of the leadership programs.

Ngufor, Patrick. "Quantitative study of perceptions of business owners and loan officers on loan delinquency and default." Thesis, University of Phoenix, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3578584.

This research seeks to document if differences in perceptions of small business creditworthiness and lending practices of credit union and commercial lenders exist. This study applied a quantitative method to answer five questions: (1)How do small business owners perceive commercial lenders? (2)How do small business owners perceive credit union lenders? (3)How do commercial banks perceive small businesses? (4)How do credit unions perceive small businesses? (5)What are the differences in the perceptions of small businesses, commercial banks, and credit unions? The study used a quantitative survey instrument to gather data and the data was compared and contrasted among groups (Fitzgerald & Rumrill, 2004). The chi-squared test of differences in probabilities and the goodness of fit test were applied (Figure 2A) to determine if there were differences in probabilities between answers.

The results of this study are significant to small business and banking leaders by helping to define how lenders’ and small businesses’ perceptions affect the differences in loan delinquency rates between commercial lenders and credit unions lenders and by offering new insight into how loan delinquency rates can be reduced. The results also pointed to inherent perceptions of small business owners and lenders that might contribute to the root causes of loan defaults and delinquencies. The results provided information upon which small business owners and financial institution loan officers might act in order to understand how to better manage loans and to reduce the rate of loan delinquency.

The Three Cs of Administrative Office Management: Conceptions, Challenges, and Coping Mechanisms

Profile image of Christopher D C . Francisco

2020, International Journal of Academic Multidisciplinary Research (IJAMR)

The main aim of the study was to investigate different conceptions, challenges, and coping mechanisms with regards to administrative office management. To achieve this aim, the researcher selected three administrative officers within the Schools Division of City of Malolos, Bulacan during the school year 2019-2020. The study utilized a qualitative research design which aimed to describe the lived experiences of individuals in a certain phenomenon or human condition. Using transcriptions, codes, and triangulations of the data gathered, themes were extracted in the data analysis. Findings revealed that: (1) AOM was conceived as management of various documents for smooth transactions between teachers and school administrators, (2) AOM challenges were noted as encountering naughty teachers, unreturned office supplies, noisy location of the office facility and the office which is sometimes turned out to be a storage room, (3) As AOM coping mechanisms, the respondents keep their strict mood and maintain a happy atmosphere to obtain a less stressed and a peaceful workplace. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were offered.

This study determines the level of awareness of the teachers in the Child Protection Policy and the level of its implementation in the Schools Division of Meycauayan City. The study used a descriptive research with survey as its primary data gathering tool. 165 elementary teachers chosen through random sampling took part in the survey. With the help of Microsoft Excel, the researcher used the following statistical tools: frequency and percentage to describe the demographic profile; mean and standard deviation to describe the indicators under level of awareness and level of implementation. The study found out that most of the teachers are aware of the Child Protection Policy, but its implementation in the schools is not that rigid. Therefore, it is recommended that implementing the Child Protection Policy be monitored and a more comprehensive information drive be given to teachers. Training modules which include positive and non-violent discipline in classroom management, anger and stress management and gender sensitivity should be included in seminars to be conducted.

This study aimed to assess the emotional intelligence and work values of the selected instructors from a teacher education institution. The researcher used a descriptive correlational design in this study with the questionnaire as the main instrument of gathering data. Thirty instructors took part in the survey via convenience sampling. For the instrument, an adapted and modified version of the Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment Questionnaire (1998) and Work Values Inventory (2006) was used. The researcher subjected the data with the following tools: Weighted Mean, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson-r with the help of SPSS 20. This study generated the following results: instructors agree moderately on the different indicators of emotional intelligence. The instructors also stated that all the indicators are important for the work values inventory. There are no significant differences found in the emotional intelligence and work values when grouped according to sex, civil status, educational attainment, and length of service. However, in terms of age, the emotional intelligence got a significant difference. There is also no significant relationship found between the demographic profile, emotional intelligence, and work values of the instructors. Based on the results, the researcher endorsed relevant recommendations.

This study aimed at investigating the role of Eliademy as a web-based classroom in designing an alternative learning tool in times of emergencies. To achieve this aim, a qualitative interview was conducted to the selected graduate school students of La Consolacion University Philippines who had experienced three (3) consecutive trimesters of Eliademy in their courses during the academic year 2018-2019. The results revealed that students strongly agreed that Eliademy can be used as an alternative tool for teaching and learning as evidenced by their perceived advantages and disadvantages of such platform. The study found out that Eliademy is accessible, can promote time management, promptness and a challenge for the users although it requires strong internet connections and time pressured. The researcher offered three easy steps in using creating this web-based classroom, to wit: "Signing in", "Designing it", and, "Managing out". Finally, the researcher also presented other potential alternative learning tools by which teachers may utilize depending on the needs on the learners since such platforms have their own special features (e.g. CourseSites, iTunes U, LatitudeLearning, Myicourse, Schoology, ATutor, Dokeos, Moodle, etc.). It was concluded that in times of calamities, educators and other institutions may consider the utilization of Eliademy so as not to compromise classes and even in a regular routine. Doing this may promote schools' learning management system (LMS) which is required by the different accrediting agencies (e.g. PAASCU, PACUCOA, ISO).

Gender mainstreaming has variously been found to affect the performance of employees in organisations. Studies conducted in the past have established that gender mainstreaming is an important aspect of performance in the workplace. One important aspect of gender mainstreaming is gender equality initiative in the workplace. This study sought to investigate the influence of gender equality initiative on performance of female journalists in Kenya in terms of promotions, assignments, flexibility of working arrangements and the composition of employees. The results of this study will assist organizational managers to implement initiatives and programs that will enhance gender equality thus improving the performance of female employees in the workplace. The cross-sectional study which was conducted in four mainstream media organizations in Kenya used self-administered questionnaires which were used to collect data from randomly selected 320 male and female journalists working in the Standard Media Group, Nation Media Group, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Media Max Limited. The survey established that gender equality initiative influences female journalist's performance to a statistically significant extent. Additionally, it was found that gender equality initiative accounts for a 24.6 percent variation in the performance of female journalists. It is therefore important to ensure that organizational management take cognizance of how gender equality initiative can actually influence the performance of female employees within their organisations.

Grounded on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) of Ajzen (1985& 2002) that explains individual decision-making processes, this study was conducted to primarily answer: How do teachers’ levels of job satisfaction and professional competencies significantly affect their financial literacy skills and practices? Respondents of the study, chosen through stratified random sampling, are the 103 nationally-funded teachers from the select five junior high schools covering the five districts of DepEd City of Malolos. The study ran from August 2019 to March 2020 employing a descriptive correlational type of research with a three-part questionnaire to capture the necessary variables adhering to the salient provisions of the Data Privacy Act of 2012. The data gathered were tallied and computed using the MS Excel and the statistical treatment was processed using SPSS Version 20. The study found out that: (1) teachers have high level of job satisfaction in the workplace; (2) teachers are consistently demonstrating professional competencies; (3) teachers have only moderate level of financial literacy skills and practices; (4) job satisfaction in the workplace has no significant impact on financial literacy skills and practices; (4) professional competencies have significant impact on financial literacy skills and practices; (5) there should be regular financial literacy programs based on their actual needs. The study recommends capacity-building programs that will enhance teachers to continuously improve themselves as financial managers of themselves and as active and responsible members of the organization.

This study analyses the satisfaction of workers from their working environment during the current financial crisis in Greece. As a case study, work satisfaction is examined among employees of the Region of Epirus, Greece who, on a daily basis, serve the needs of a large geographical region. In order to achieve this, we conducted an empirical research in 2018 using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) model. From the findings of this research and in accordance with those of other international surveys, we conclude that satisfaction from endogenous factors (e.g. activity, independence, creativity etc.) is higher than exogenous (e.g. human relations, remuneration, colleagues, working conditions etc.). In addition, the study of satisfaction per group of employees indicates that the Director/Office Manager and the University Educational employees appear more satisfied when it comes to satisfaction deriving from endogenous factors and more dissatisfied as far as indicators of exogenous satisfaction is concerned.
