September 11, 2001 provides the rationale for a comprehensive course in terrorism, regardless of the student’s major, since the new realities affect every aspect of life in every country. This course is designed to give the student an overview of the intellectual, historical, and political aspects of modern terrorism.

Discussions (4)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will take part in 4 Discussions. The student will create a thread responding to the assigned topic. Each thread must be at least 400 words. Each thread must be supported with at least 2 citations in current APA format. Additionally, for each Discussion, the student will post 2 replies of at least 200 words to other classmates’ threads. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 citation. Acceptable sources include the textbook, the Bible, and electronic sources (excluding Wikipedia).
Research Paper Assignments (3)
The student will choose a topic directly related to the study of terrorism and write a 6–8-page research paper assignment on that topic. The paper must be written in current APA format and include 5-7 scholarly sources. The paper will be submitted in 3 parts—the Topic Thesis and references page (simple bibliography), the annotated bibliography, and the final submission.
Research Paper: Topic Thesis and References Page (Simple Bibliography) Assignment
The student will write a draft thesis question reflecting the topic to be researched, which is to be included at the top of the Reference page. The references page (simple bibliography) submission must include a minimum of 5 sources from online and printed materials that the student will use in his or her Research Paper. The References Page must be in current APA format.
Research Paper: Annotated Bibliography Assignment
The student will submit an annotated bibliography in APA format, using an analytical or critical approach to assess each of the 5-7 scholarly sources. The student will summarize the author’s key points and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of those points and describe how the author’s points apply to the research question the student is examining.
For each of your sources (five minimum) provide the following:
- APA citation first (APA format).
- a summary of the source.
- key points from the source that provide insight to the assertions related to the thesis question you are researching.
- strengths and weaknesses of the author’s points.
Research Paper: Final Paper Assignment
The Final Paper Submission will include the complete 6-8-page research paper with several supporting details, well-constructed paragraphs, and a minimum of 5 sources that are accurately documented and in current APA format. The reference page will be included as well. The annotated bibliography need not be resubmitted with the final paper.
Essay Paper: Definition of Terrorism and Comparison to Use of Violence by Governments Assignment
The student will write one 3-page short essay paper in current APA format.
Quiz: Midterm Essay Exam
The student will complete a Quiz: Midterm Essay Exam. The Midterm exam requires the student to complete 4 essay questions. Each question must be answered with at least 400 words and have appropriate references in APA format. The Midterm exam will have a time limit of 3 hours. The Midterm is open-book/open-notes, but collaboration with another person is not permitted.
