India is an interesting market for newspapers as its citizens belong to different faiths and speak different languages. While Hindi is a national language and has the most newspaper readership, regional newspapers too are follow strongly. In fact, in some states, readership of regional newspaper outnumbers the readership for Hindi newspaper. There are different types of news papers in the market right from national level news papers to community newspapers. In the midst of this all, there also exists substantial readership for English newspapers which are mainly confined to urban areas of the country. Though all of them are print media, the audience for all these news papers is different. Nagpur is also home to some famous Hindi & English Newspaper publications. Being fairly urbanized, a section of the society of Nagpur also follows readership of English Newspapers. It can be said all three language newspapers viz. Marathi, Hindi and English have their presence in Nagpur. The city houses some of oldest newsgroup like " Navbharat " and " The Hitavada " which are operating since pre independence era. In such context, we have undertaken to survey of 350 Nagpurians regarding quality of newspapers read by them. Age, gender, profession and income were the criteria defining respondent profile. Survey aims to know the perception of participants in respect of important newspapers published in Nagpur, published in three main languages viz. English, Hindi and Marathi. Dainik Bhaskar, Times of India and Lokmat Samachar emerged as most read newspapers in the city. Findings suggest that Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar scores over all other dailies on various factors for selection of a newspaper. This paper also makes suggestions to different newspapers to improve their readership.

India has always advocated importance of free press, since it became independent, except for the brief experience of censorship under emergency regulations of 1975-76. Yet it suffers from many inadequacies like caste and religious affiliations, which still exercise a powerful influence on journalist as any member of society. Journalists claim to be objective but the slant becomes obvious when it is reporting of foreign affairs, sensitive issues that bother their funding agencies and government. The present paper focuses on the history, importance and working attitudes of journalists and their effect on readers.

While TV may still be the dominant medium in India today, and the internet and mobile phone industry are currently growing at a tremendous speed, ‘old’ media such as the press don’t seem to be losing ground as yet. In times of a recurrent debate about the crisis of print media in Europe and the US, the Indian newspaper market still keeps growing and has attracted the interest of multinational corporations. One reason for this is that India is presently one of the largest markets for English-language newspapers and magazines in the world. Notwithstanding the continued growth of the English-language press, it is above all daily newspapers in the major Indian languages which form the motor of this unprecedented press boom. The article shows that in the wake of economic liberalization and the enforcement of the consumption-oriented market economy, the newspaper market in India can be said to be changing from a linguistically ‘split public’, which was characterized by many asymmetries for decades, to an integrated multilingual ‘consumer sphere’. It can thus be argued that in this new consumer sphere, the old existing and imaginary boundaries between ‘English-language’, ‘Indian-language’ or ‘regional newspapers’ are becoming increasingly fuzzy, whereas the new geographies of the ‘regional’ are now very important for the expansion and consolidation of daily newspapers. In order to de-westernize the current debate about the ‘newspaper crisis’, it would thus be important to look at different historical as well as contemporary trajectories of newspaper developments in the framework of changing media configurations in the so-called global South, which may differ significantly from the European or North American context.

Dainik Bhaskar journo booked for report on ‘10 deaths enroute Chardham’ in Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand police has booked Manmeet Rawat, a journalist with Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar,  over his May 15 report on the overwhelming crowd and the “death of 10 devotees in four days” enroute Chardham or the state’s four major pilgrimage sites – Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. 

The police, in a statement posted on X, called the news “false” and “misleading”. It said the “police, armed forces and the government are putting efforts day and night to manage the crowd and the road jams” and that it had lodged an FIR against Rawat at the Uttarkashi police station “under relevant sections”. 

The statement further said: “Please do not try to lower the morale of the police and the administration by spreading such false propaganda and rumours. Going ahead, strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours and misinformation.” 

However, Garhwal commissioner reportedly accepted in a media interaction that 11 people had died at different dhams, Dainik Bhakar said in a note published on Thursday. It also said the reporter was booked under IPC sections 153 A and 505 despite the report being factual and “with evidence”.

The newspaper said it had also reported on the Garhwal commissioner’s statement and the Uttarakhand government announcing “a string of measures to improve the situation and aid devotees”. 

On May 15, the newspaper had published a report titled “Chardham: The system was overwhelmed by the crowd of devotees... There was a jam of 45 km, people got stuck for 25 hours, 10 people died while waiting for darshan”. 

It said in Hindi: “ Chardham ka plan bana rahein hain toh filhaal taal dein kyunki Gangotri aur Yamunotri mein record tod bheed ke chalte sarkari vyavasthaein dhvasth ho chuki hain ( If you are planning for Chardham, postpone it for now because due to record breaking crowd in Gangotri and Yamunotri, the government arrangements have collapsed).”

The report detailed that more than 1.30 lakh pilgrims had arrived in the state to visit the temples over four days – a footfall recorded in 16 days last year. It said of the 10 pilgrims who died on the way to the temples, four were from Madhya Pradesh, two from Gujarat and one each from Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Goa and Uttar Pradesh.

The newspaper also carried detailed accounts of people who spent the night on the road in “shivering cold” due to road blocks and said there was a “danger of landslides, and no food or water”.   

A follow-up report said the roads to Gangotri and Yamunotri remained jammed, with the traffic moving over five to six hours.

निबंध 1 (300 शब्द).

आजकल, समाचार पत्र जीवन की एक आवश्यकता बन गया है। यह बाजार में लगभग सभी भाषाओं में उपलब्ध होता है। एक समाचार पत्र खबरों का प्रकाशन होता है, जो कागजों पर छापा जाता है और लोगों के घरों में वितरित किया जाता है। अलग-अलग देश अपना अलग समाचार संगठन रखते हैं। अखबार हमें अपने देश में हो रही सभी घटनाओं के साथ ही संसार में हो रही घटनाओं से भी अवगत कराते हैं। यह हमें खेल, नीति, धर्म, समाज, अर्थव्यवस्था, फिल्म उद्योग, फिल्म (चलचित्र), भोजन, रोजगार आदि के बारे में बिल्कुल सटीक जानकारी देता है।

समाचार पत्र का उपयोग

समाचार पत्र का इतिहास

हमारे देश भारतवर्ष में अंग्रेजों के आने के पहले तक समाचार पत्रों का प्रचलन नहीं था। अंग्रेजों ने ही भारत में समाचार पत्रों का विकास किया। सन 1780 में भारत का सबसे पहला समाचार पत्र कोलकाता में प्रकाशित किया गया जिसका नाम था “दी बंगाल गैजेट” जिसका सम्पादन जेम्स हिक्की ने किया था। यही वो क्षण था जब से भारत में समाचार पत्रों का विकास हुआ। आज भारत में विभिन्न भाषाओं में समाचार पत्र प्रकाशित किये जा रहे हैं।

समाचार पत्र क्या है ?

समाचार पत्र हमें संस्कृति, परम्पराओं, कलाओं, पारस्परिक नृत्य आदि के बारे में जानकारी देता है। ऐसे आधुनिक समय में जब सभी व्यक्तियों को अपने पेशे या नौकरी से अलग कुछ भी जानने का समय नहीं है, ऐसी स्थिति में यह हमें मेलों, उत्सवों, त्योहारों, सांस्कृतिक त्योहारों आदि का दिन व तारीख बताता है। यह समाज, शिक्षा, भविष्य, प्रोत्साहन संदेश और विषयों के बारे में खबरों के साथ ही रुचि पूर्ण वस्तुओं के बारे में बताता है, इसलिए यह हमें कभी भी नहीं ऊबाता है। यह हमें हमेशा संसार में सभी वस्तुओं के बारे में अपने रुचि पूर्ण विषयों के माध्यम से प्रोत्साहित करता है।

वर्तमान समय में, जब सभी लोग अपने जीवन में इतने व्यस्त है, ऐसे में उनके लिए बाहरी संसार के बारे में सूचनाओं या खबरों की जानकारी होना बहुत ही मुश्किल से संभव है, इसलिए समाचार पत्र इस तरह की कमजोरी को हटाने का सबसे अच्छा विकल्प है। यह हमें केवल 15 मिनट या आधे घंटे में किसी घटना की विस्तृत जानकारी दे देता है। यह सभी क्षेत्रों से संबंधित व्यक्तियों के लिए बहुत ही लाभदायक है क्योंकि यह सभी के अनुसार जानकारियों को रखता है जैसे विद्यार्थियों, व्यापारियों, राजनेताओं, खिलाड़ियों, शिक्षकों, उद्यमियों आदि।

समाचार पत्र हमारे पास प्रतिदिन सुबह में आता है और इसे पढ़कर काफी जानकारी प्राप्त होती है, जिसके कारण हमें कई तरह की सुविधाएं प्रदान करता है। समाचार पत्र दिन-प्रतिदिन अपने बढ़ते हुए महत्व के कारण सभी क्षेत्रों में बहुत ही प्रसिद्धि प्राप्त कर रहा है, चाहे वो क्षेत्र पिछड़े हुआ हो या उन्नत समाज में लोग अपने ज्ञान स्तर और सामयिक घटनाओं, विशेष रुप से राजनीति और बॉलीवुड के बारे में जानने के लिए अधिक उत्साहित रहते हैं। विद्यार्थियों के लिए समाचार पत्र पढ़ना बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि यह सभी के बारे में सामान्य जानकारी देता है। यह उनकी किसी भी सरकारी या गैर-सरकारी नौकरी के लिए तकनीकी या प्रतियोगी परीक्षा को पास करने में भी हमारी मदद करता है।

समाचार पत्र का महत्व

समाचार पत्र पढ़ना बहुत ही रुचि का कार्य है। यदि कोई इसे नियमित रुप से पढ़ने का शौकीन हो गया तो वह कभी भी समाचार पत्र पढ़ना नहीं छोड़ सकता/सकती। यह विद्यार्थियों के लिए बहुत अच्छा है क्योंकि यह हमें सही ढंग से अंग्रेजी बोलना सिखाता है। अखबार अब देश के पिछड़े हुए क्षेत्रों में भी बहुत प्रसिद्ध हो गए हैं। किसी भी भाषा को बोलने वाला व्यक्ति समाचार पत्र पढ़ सकता है क्योंकि यह विभिन्न भाषाओं जैसे कि हिन्दी, अंग्रेजी, उर्दू आदि में प्रकाशित होता है। समाचार पत्र हम सभी के लिए बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह हमारे लिए दुनिया भर के कोनों से सैंकड़ों खबरें लाता है।

समाचार पत्र: राजनीति की सभी गतिविधियों की जानकारी

समाचार हमारे लिए सबसे पहली रुचि और आकर्षण है। बिना समाचार पत्र और खबरों के, हम बिना पानी की मछली से अधिक और कुछ नहीं हैं। भारत एक लोकतांत्रिक देश है, जहाँ जनता का अपने देश पर शासन होता है, इसलिए उनके लिए राजनीति की सभी गतिविधियों को जानना बहुत आवश्यक है। आधुनिक तकनीकी संसार में, जहाँ सब कुछ उच्च तकनीकियों पर निर्भर करता है, समाचार और खबरें कम्प्यूटर और इंटरनेट पर भी उपलब्ध हैं। इंटरनेट का प्रयोग करके, हम संसार की सभी सूचनाओं को प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। किसी भी सामाजिक मुद्दे के बारे में सामान्य जनता में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए समाचार पत्र सबसे अच्छा तरीका है। इसके साथ ही यह देश की आम जनता और सरकार के बीच संवाद करने का सबसे अच्छा तरीका है।

आज की लोकप्रिय व्यवस्था में समाचार पत्रों का अत्यधिक महत्व होता है। समाचार पत्र ज्ञानवर्धन का साधन होते हैं इसलिए हमें नियमित रूप से उनका अध्ययन करनी की आदत डालनी चाहिए। समाचार पत्रों के बिना आज के युग में जीवन अधुरा है। आज के समय में समाचार का महत्व बहुत बढ़ चुका है क्योंकि आज के आधुनिक युग में शासकों को जिस चीज से सबसे ज्यादा भय है वह समाचार पत्र हैं।

समाचार पत्र बहुत ही शक्तिशाली यंत्र है जो व्यक्ति के आत्मविश्वास और व्यक्तित्व को विकसित करता है। यह लोगों और संसार के बीच वार्ता का सबसे अच्छा साधन है। यह ज्ञान का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण माध्यम है। यह अधिक ज्ञान और सूचना प्राप्त करने के साथ ही कुशलता के स्तर को बढ़ाने का सबसे अच्छा स्रोत है। यह लगभग सभी क्षेत्रों में उपलब्ध होता है, इसके साथ ही इसकी कीमत भी बहुत कम होती है। हम समाचार पत्रों तक आसानी से पहुँच सकते हैं। इसके लिए हमें केवल किसी भी समाचार पत्र के संगठन में सम्पर्क करके इसके लिए केवल भुगतान करने की जरूरत होती है। यह देश की विभिन्न भाषाओं में प्रकाशित होता है। बहुत सारे लोग प्रतिदिन सुबह बहुत ही साहस के साथ समाचार पत्र का इंतजार करते हैं।

समाचार पत्र का सकारात्मक प्रभाव

समाचार पत्र समाज के लोगों को सकारात्मक रुप से प्रभावित करता है क्योंकि आज के समय में  सभी लोग देश की सामयिक घटनाओं को जानने में रुचि रखने लगे हैं। समाचार पत्र सरकार और लोगों के बीच जुड़ाव का सबसे अच्छा तरीका है। यह लोगों को पूरे संसार की सभी बड़ी व छोटी खबरों का विवरण प्रदान करता है। यह देश के लोगों को नियमों, कानूनों और अधिकारों के बारे में जागरूक बनाता है। समाचार पत्र विद्यार्थियों के लिए बहुत अधिक महत्वपूर्ण होते हैं, क्योंकि ये विशेष रुप से राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर का सामान्य ज्ञान और सामयिक घटनाओं के बारे में बताता है। यह हमें सभी खुशियों, विकासों, नई तकनीकियों, शोधो, खगोलीय और मौसम में बदलावों, प्राकृतिक वातावरण आदि की सूचना देता है।

यदि हम प्रतिदिन नियमित रुप से समाचार पत्र पढ़ने की आदत बनाते है, तो यह हमारी बहुत मदद करता है। यह हम में पढ़ने की आदत विकसित करता है, हमारे प्रभाव में सुधार करता है और हमें बाहर के बारे में सभी जानकारी देता है। कुछ लोगों में समाचार पत्र को प्रत्येक सुबह पढ़ने की आदत होती है। वे समाचार पत्र की अनुपस्थिति में बहुत अधिक बेचैन हो जाते हैं और पूरे दिन कुछ अकेलापन महसूस करते हैं।

प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी करने वाले विद्यार्थी भी अपने मस्तिष्क को वर्तमान सामयिक घटनाओं से जोडे रखने के लिए नियमित रुप से अखबार पढ़ते हैं। समाचार पत्र आकर्षक मुख्य शीर्षक लाइन के अन्तर्गत सभी की पसंद के अनुसार बहुत अधिक खबरों को प्रकाशित करते हैं इसलिए इससे कोई भी परेशान नहीं होता। हमें विभिन्न अखबारों को पढ़ना जारी रखना चाहिए और इसके साथ ही परिवार के अन्य सदस्यों और मित्रों को भी समाचार पत्र पढ़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना चाहिए।

समाचार पत्र से होने वाले लाभ

समाचार पत्र पढ़ने से हमें बहुत सारे फायदे हैं। समाचार पत्रों से हमें देश-विदेश में हो रही हर तरह के घटनाओं का नवीन ज्ञान मिलता है। नए अनुसंधान, नयी खोजें और नई ख़बरें की जानकारी हमें समाचार पत्रों से ही मिलती है। इसमें प्रकाशित होने वाली सरकारी सूचनाओं, आज्ञाओं और विज्ञापनों से हमें आवश्यक और महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी मिल जाती है, कहीं कोई दुर्घटना हो जाये, भूकंप या बाढ़ जैसी आपदा आ जाए तो इसकी जानकारी हमें समाचार पत्रों के माध्यम से तुरंत मिल जाती है। इसके साथ ही समाचार पत्र एक व्यवसाय बन गया है। जिससे हजारों संपादकों, लेखकों, रिपोर्टरों व अन्य कर्मचारियों को रोजगार मुहैया होता है।

समाचार पत्रों से हानि

समाचार पत्रों से जहां इतने लाभ हैं, वहां इनसे कुछ हानियां भी हैं। कभी-कभी कुछ समाचार पत्र झूठे समाचार छापकर जनता को भ्रमित करने का कार्य भी करते हैं। इसी तरह कुछ समाचार पत्र साम्प्रदायिक भावनाओं को को भड़काने का कार्य करते हैं, जिसके कारण समाज में दंगे जैसी घटनाएं उत्पन्न हो जाती है। जिससे चारों ओर अशांति का माहौल व्याप्त हो जाता है। इसके साथ ही सरकार की सही नीतियों को भी कभी-कभी गलत तरीके से पेश करके जनता को भ्रमित करने का कार्य किया जाता है। जिसके कारण देश में राजनीतिक अस्थिरता का माहौल व्याप्त हो जाता है।

समाचार पत्रों में सामाजिक मुद्दों, मानवता, संस्कृति, परम्परा, जीवन-शैली, ध्यान, योगा आदि जैसे विषयों के बारे में कई सारे अच्छे लेख संपादित होते हैं। यह सामान्य जनता के विचारों के बारे में भी जानकारी प्रदान करता है और बहुत से सामाजिक तथा आर्थिक विषयों को सुलझाने में हमारी सहायता करता है। इसके साथ ही समाचार पत्रों के द्वारा हमें राजनेताओं, सरकारी नीतियों तथा विपक्षी दलों के नीतियों के बारे में भी जानकारी प्राप्त होती है। यह नौकरी ढूँढ़ने वाले की, बच्चों को अच्छे स्कूल में प्रवेश दिलाने, व्यापारियों को वर्तमान व्यापारिक गतिविधियों को जानने, बाजार के वर्तमान प्रचलन, नई रणनीतियों आदि को समझनें तथा जानने में भी हमारी मदद करता है। यहीं कारण है कि वर्तमान समय में समाचार पत्र को लोकतंत्र का चौथा स्तंभ भी कहा जाता है।

दूरदृष्टा, जनचेतना के अग्रदूत, वैचारिक स्वतंत्रता के पुरोधा एवं समाजसेवी सरदार दयालसिंह मजीठिया ने 2 फरवरी, 1881 को लाहौर (अब पाकिस्तान) से ‘द ट्रिब्यून’ का प्रकाशन शुरू किया। विभाजन के बाद लाहौर से शिमला व अंबाला होते हुए यह समाचार पत्र अब चंडीगढ़ से प्रकाशित हो रहा है।

‘द ट्रिब्यून’ के सहयोगी प्रकाशनों के रूप में 15 अगस्त, 1978 को स्वतंत्रता दिवस के अवसर पर दैनिक ट्रिब्यून व पंजाबी ट्रिब्यून की शुरुआत हुई। द ट्रिब्यून प्रकाशन समूह का संचालन एक ट्रस्ट द्वारा किया जाता है।
