75 years ago, this day marked the birth of our country as a free republic. We escaped the shackles of colonial rule, entered the bright light of liberty and emerged as a sovereign nation, standing tall on the pillars of democracy. The sky over India at last belonged to the Indian people, symbolizing not just freedom from British rule but also the limitless possibilities and dreams that our vibrant nation could now aspire to achieve.

Think of the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for this day. Their unwavering courage lit the way to freedom, enabling us to stand tall as a proud nation. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude.

But Republic Day isn't just about remembering the past; it's about embracing the present and building the future. It's the freedom to learn, to dream big and to aim high.  It's the freedom to speak up and have our voices heard.  It's the freedom to be tolerant and to be kind to others.

So, let's celebrate Republic Day not just with flags and sweets, but with actions. Let's be responsible citizens, upholding the values of our Constitution. Let us honour each other's differences and celebrate our diversity, after all, India is a country of unity in diversity.

Happy Republic Day, everyone! Let's march forward, hand in hand, towards a brighter, more glorious India!

Respected principal, teachers, and my dear friends, today we have gathered to celebrate a day that not only marks our victory over the British but also signifies the triumph of our democratic spirit. Happy Republic Day to all!

My dear friends, imagine a world where every single voice matters and every citizen has the right to choose their leaders. Imagine a land where everyone has the right to dream big, and to strive relentlessly to chase those dreams. Republic Day signifies the realisation of a dream of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Thus, my dear friends, it is only through the magic of a republic that we the people are the true kings and queens. Thus,

But sustaining democracy needs our active participation, our respect for different opinions and our commitment to stay united in diversity. We all have heard stories about the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and their indomitable spirit. We should draw inspiration from their courage and emulate their dedication to make our nation stronger.

So, on this Republic Day, let's pledge to be worthy citizens of this great land. Let's promise to be kind, responsible, and active participants in our democracy. Let's embrace each other’s differences, celebrate our diversity, and work together to build a future that is even more glorious than the one our freedom fighters dreamt of.

Let's make every day a celebration of our freedom, our democracy, and the incredible potential of this nation we call India.

Happy Republic Day, everyone!

Honorable Principal Sir, respected brothers and sisters, and my dear friends. As we all know today is the 75th Republic Day of India. My Name is [Harsh Kumar] and on this prestigious day, I have got a chance to deliver my Republic Day speech in front of you all.

As we know the Indian constitution was adhered to on 26 Jan 1950 with a certain set of rules and regulations. Today we have gathered here to celebrate the victory of Republic Day and in the memory of great men like Rajendra Prasad, Subhash Chandra Bosh, and Mahatma Gandhi.

The Constitution of India is the longest-written constitution in the world. The time duration taken to draft the Indian constitution was 2 years, 11 months, and 11 days. It was drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to establish the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions, and set out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.

Republic Day is a celebration of our unity in diversity. India has different cultures, languages, religions, and traditions. Our tricolor flag symbolizes this unity – the saffron color signifies strength and courage, the white middle band indicates peace and truth with the Dharma Chakra, and the green shows the fertility, growth, and auspiciousness of our land.

As we celebrate this day, let us also acknowledge the progress India has made over the years. Our advancements in technology, medicine, science, and space exploration have put us on the world map.

Currently, we need to fulfill the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to make India a developed country and we youth can decide what India will be next 5 years.

As we know on Republic Day, The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has been invited to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations. We have started achieving new heights again. From Chandrayaan 2 to the IT sector, India made significant growth.

Today, as we gather to celebrate the 75th Republic Day of our great nation, I am filled with a deep sense of pride and patriotism. On this day, back in 1950, India adopted its Constitution, embarking on a remarkable journey as a sovereign, democratic republic.

The Constitution of India, the longest written constitution in the world, is not just a document but the soul of our nation. It embodies the hopes and aspirations of billions of Indians and serves as a guiding light for our democratic values and principles.

  • Constitution of India

Drafted by the Constituent Assembly with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee, it laid down the framework defining fundamental political principles, established the structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions, and set out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens.

“In the land of diversity, where dreams take flight, On this Republic Day, let’s shine so bright. With freedom in our hearts, and faith in our might, Pride in our unity, we stand for what’s right.”

Republic Day is a celebration of our unity in diversity. India, a land of myriad cultures, languages, religions, and traditions, stands as a testament to the idea that unity can thrive amidst diversity.

From a nascent nation struggling with the challenges of post-colonial development, India has emerged as a global player in various fields. Our advancements in technology, medicine, science, and space exploration have put us on the world map. Our economy, one of the fastest-growing in the world, continues to show resilience and potential.

Looking ahead, the youth of our nation hold the key to our future. With one of the largest young populations in the world, India’s hope lies in empowering these young minds with education, opportunities, and the right values. We must strive to build an India where every child has access to quality education, every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, and where inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation are the cornerstones of our development.

As we celebrate Republic Day, let’s renew our commitment to our nation – to uphold the values enshrined in our Constitution, to work towards an inclusive and progressive India, and to fulfill the dreams of our founding fathers. Let us pledge to contribute in our ways to the nation’s growth and prosperity.

Introduction Speech on India Republic Day

Long speech.

A very warm good morning to one and all present here. I am Rahul, a student of Class 8. I am here to present a speech on the auspicious occasion of 26 January Republic Day. I am glad as I am chosen to present this speech and welcome everyone to this occasion. Today, India celebrates its 75th Republic day. On this day, I on behalf of the school committee, welcome our honourable chief guest. I would like to extend a warm welcome and heartfelt greetings to our honourable principal, vice-principal, respected teachers, and my dear schoolmates. We all have gathered here today to celebrate India Republic Day 2024 and commemorate India’s 75 years of democracy.

I have got this wonderful opportunity to come on the stage and deliver the welcome occasion speech. I would like to talk about my beloved country on this occasion of Republic Day and how is Republic Day celebrated in India. We all must know India celebrates Republic Day on 26 January as the Constitution of India came into existence on this day in 1950. This not only made us a republic but also made the people of India the highest authority in the country.

Our freedom fighters had struggled and sacrificed their lives so that the future of India is not under slavery. Freedom strugglers like Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar Azad, and many more must be remembered. We must pay tribute to them on today’s occasion.

India won Independence on August 15th, 1947. About 200 years of British rule came to an end on this day. Even after independence, India was facing Hindu-Muslim riots and corruption. It was the duty of each member of free India to return the country to its glory. After rigorous efforts, the constitution was finally implemented in a full-fledged manner on January 26, 1950. The credit for drafting the Indian constitution goes to B.R. Ambedkar. He was a member of the Constituent Drafting Committee who is considered the chief architect of the constitution of India. 26 January Republic Day is celebrated as colourfully organized cultural events all over the country. Every citizen of India is filled with pride and happiness on the occasion. They play patriotic songs and enjoy sweet dishes to mark the celebrations.

India’s constitution is considered one of the best in the world. India is the largest democracy. However, India is still pulled back by crime, corruption, violence, terrorism, etc. After so many years of being a republic nation, India is still under the captivity of such nation-wide issues. As true citizens of the country, our responsibility is to work towards the development of the country and protect our land as true patriots!

Thank you for your patient hearing.

Short Speech

Warm good morning and greetings to each one present here. I am Sandhya, a Grade 4 student. I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to welcome esteemed guests, our honourable principal, teachers, and my dear friends to the republic day celebration. India is celebrating its 75th Republic Day today. I welcome each one to this auspicious occasion. India Republic Day (26th January) marks the celebration of the implementation of the Indian Constitution on this date in 1950. Indian constitution is the longest written constitution in the whole world. India’s freedom struggle has been noteworthy where many freedom fighters had to sacrifice their lives so that India breathes the air of freedom. Indian constitution is also the result of the hard work of B.R. Ambedkar. He drafted the constitution which came to force on January 26, 1950.

How is Republic Day celebrated in India, you may ask? The main celebration of India Republic Day is held at the Rajpath in New Delhi before the president of India. The parades are organized at the Rajpath which takes place as a tribute to India and its rich culture. On this day, many schools and colleges around the nation organize flag hoisting and functions in their premises.

We are all gathered here to celebrate the achievement of the finest democracy in the world. This day reminds us of our freedom struggle and how we received ‘Purn Swaraj’ or complete independence. Today, we can enjoy many rights and privileges as a citizen of this country. Some of these rights are the right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion. Cultural and educational rights, etc. However, the true attainment of a republic is a consequence of the long struggles of our freedom fighters. We must never forget them and celebrate this day every year with the same joy and pride.

ADDRESS TO THE NATION, BY THE PRESIDENT OF INDIA SMT. DROUPADI MURMU ON THE EVE OF REPUBLIC DAY 2024

New delhi : 25.01.2024.

pdf

My Dear Fellow Citizens,   Namaskar!

My heartiest greetings to all of you on the eve of the 75th Republic Day! My heart is filled with pride when I look back and see how far we have travelled despite adversities. The 75th year of the Republic is truly a historic milestone in the journey of the nation in many ways. This is an especially festive occasion, just as we celebrated the unique greatness and diverse culture of our nation during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, when we completed 75 years of Independence.

Tomorrow is the day when we celebrate the commencement of the Constitution. Its Preamble begins with the words “We, the People of India”, highlighting the theme of the document, namely, democracy. In India, democratic system is much older than the concept of western democracy. That is the reason why India is called the “mother of democracy”.

After a long and difficult struggle, on 15th August, 1947, India became free from foreign rule. Yet, the task of framing the principles and processes that would govern the country and unleash its true potential was still a work in progress. The Constituent Assembly spent nearly three years holding detailed discussions on all aspects of governance and produced the great founding document of our nation, the Constitution of India. Today, the nation gratefully remembers the leaders as well as the officials who contributed to the framing of our splendid and inspiring Constitution.

The nation is in the early years of Amrit Kaal, the period leading to the centenary of Independence. This is the time of an epochal transformation. We are given a golden opportunity to take the country to new heights. Contribution from every citizen will be crucial to achieve our goals. For this, I will appeal to all my fellow citizens to abide by our Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution. These duties are essential obligations of every citizen towards making Bharat a developed nation when it completes 100 years of independence. Here, I think of Mahatma Gandhi who had rightly said, “No people have risen who thought only of rights. Only those did so who thought of duties.”

My Dear Fellow Citizens,

Republic Day is an occasion to recall our foundational values and principles. When we contemplate any one of them, we are naturally guided to the rest. Democracy implies diversity of culture, beliefs and practices. Celebrating diversity implies equality, which is upheld by justice. Freedom is what makes it all possible. The totality of these values and principles is what makes us Indian. Guided by the sagacity of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the spirit of the Constitution, imbued with these foundational values and principles, has led us invariably on the path of social justice to put an end to all kinds of discrimination.

I would like to mention here that the celebration of the birth centenary of a tireless champion of social justice, Shri Karpoori Thakur Ji, concluded yesterday. Karpoori Ji was one of the greatest advocates of backward classes who dedicated his life for their welfare. His life was a message. I pay my tribute to Karpoori Ji for enriching public life through his contributions.

The ethos of our Republic brings together more than 1.4 billion of us to live as one family. For this largest family in the world, co-existence is not an imposition of geography but a source of happiness, which finds expression in our Republic Day celebrations.

Earlier this week, we witnessed the historic consecration ceremony of the idol of Prabhu Shri Ram in the glorious new temple constructed at His birthplace in Ayodhya. When this event will be seen in the wider perspective, the future historians will consider it a landmark in India’s continued re-discovery of its civilisational heritage. The construction of the temple commenced after the due judicial process and the decision of the highest court of the land. Now it stands as a grand edifice, giving a befitting expression not only of people’s faith but also as a testament to people’s enormous trust in judicial process.

Our National festivals are momentous occasions when we together look back and look ahead. If we look at the year since the last Republic Day, there is much to be pleased about. The successful organising of the Group of 20 Summit in the capital, under India’s presidency, was an unprecedented achievement. What was all the more noteworthy was the way the people were involved in the G20 events. The ideas and inputs travelled not downwards from the top but upwards from the bottom. The magnificent event provided lessons for all in making citizens participants in strategic and diplomatic matters that are, in the final analysis, going to shape their own future. The G20 Summit also boosted India’s emergence as the voice of the Global South, adding a necessary element to the international discourse.

We also progressed further towards the ideal of gender equality, when the Parliament passed the historic Women’s Reservation Bill. I believe the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will prove to be a revolutionary tool of women’s empowerment. It will also go a long way in improving the processes of our governance. When more women will be involved in the matters of collective importance, our administrative priorities will be more in tune with the needs of the masses.

It was also the year when India went to the moon, becoming the first to land on the lunar south pole region. After Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organisation rolled out a solar mission as well. Recently, Aditya L1 was successfully put into the halo orbit. We began the new year with the launch of our first X-ray Polarimeter Satellite called XPoSat which will study space mysteries like black holes. Many more space missions are planned in the current calendar year. I am happy to add that India’s space journey is slated to cross new milestones. Preparations for the Gaganyaan mission, our first human spaceflight programme, are proceeding smoothly. We have always been proud of our scientists and technology experts, but now they are aiming far higher than before and delivering too. India’s space programme is aimed at expanding and deepening the role of science and technology for the benefit of the entire humanity. The amount of enthusiasm we see in the country for the ISRO’s initiatives is heartening. New achievements in this area have fired the imagination of the young generation. More children, I am sure, will become interested in science and cultivate a scientific temper. It will also inspire more youngsters, especially young women, to pursue careers in science and technology.

India is moving ahead with confidence, which comes from and is also reflected by the robust health of the economy. Our GDP growth rate has remained the highest among major economies in recent years, and we have all reasons to believe that this extraordinary performance will continue in the year 2024 and beyond. What I find particularly noteworthy is that the same farsighted planning that fuels the economy has also given a push to the welfare drive to make the development inclusive in every sense of the term. The government had increased the scope of schemes to provide free food to the weaker sections of society during the pandemic days. These measures were later continued to extend a helping hand to the vulnerable population to come out of that crisis. Expanding the scope of that initiative, the government has decided to provide free food grains to over 81 crore people for five years. This may be the biggest welfare initiative of its kind in history.

Moreover, there have been a number of mission-mode schemes to increase the ease of living for all citizens. From the availability of safe and adequate drinking water at home to the security of having one’s own home, these are basic minimum requirements, not privileges. These matters are beyond any political or economic ideology and must be seen from a humanitarian perspective. The government has not only expanded and enhanced the welfare schemes, but it has also redefined the idea of welfare itself. It will be a proud day for us all when India becomes one of those few countries where homelessness is a rarity. Similarly, the National Education Policy gives adequate thrust to bridge the digital divide and create a uniform educational structure for the benefit of the underprivileged students. The expanding insurance cover of the Ayushman Bharat scheme aims to bring together all beneficiaries under its umbrella and provides a great reassurance to the poor and the vulnerable.

Our sportspersons have raised India’s profile on the international stage. In the Asian Games held last year, we made history with a record-breaking tally of 107 medals, and we won 111 medals in Asian Para Games. We are glad to see that women are making very impressive contribution to our medal tally. Our sports-stars have inspired children to take up diverse sports and games, helping them boost their self-confidence. I am sure that our sportspersons, who are infused with this new confidence, will deliver an improved performance in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Dear Fellow Citizens,

In recent times, many conflicts have emerged around the world and several parts of it have been suffering from violence. When each of the two conflicting sides believes that it is right and the other is wrong, the way out should be found in the light of reason. Unfortunately, instead of reason, fears and prejudices have fueled passions, leading to relentless violence. There have been a series of humanitarian tragedies on a large scale, and we feel aggrieved over the human suffering. In such times, we recall Lord Buddha’s words:

न हि वेरेन वेरानि, सम्मन्तीध कुदाचनम्   अवेरेन च सम्मन्ति, एस धम्मो सनन्तनो

“Not at any time are enmities appeased here through enmity but they are appeased through non-enmity. This is the eternal law.”

From Vardhaman Mahavir and Samrat Ashok to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, India has time and again shown that non-violence is not just an ideal that may be difficult to achieve but it is a distinct possibility – in fact, it is a lived reality for many. Let us hope that the regions embroiled in conflicts will find a peaceful way to resolve conflicts and bring about peace.

India’s ancient wisdom can also help the world find a way out of the global environmental crisis. I am glad to see India at the forefront of promoting renewable sources of energy and taking a leadership position in global climate action. India has launched the ‘LiFE Movement’ for adoption of environment-conscious lifestyle. The global community has appreciated our country’s emphasis on individual behaviour-change for dealing with the issues of climate change. People everywhere can and must contribute by bringing their lifestyle in tune with Mother Nature. That will not only help save the planet for the generations to come but will also enhance the quality of life.

The period of Amrit Kaal is also going to be the period of unprecedented technological changes. Technological advances like Artificial Intelligence and machine learning have moved from headlines into our daily lives at a breathtaking speed. There are numerous areas of concern in the foreseeable future, but there are also exciting opportunities ahead, especially for the youth. They are exploring new frontiers. We need to do all we can to remove hurdles from their path and let them unleash their full potential. What they want is equality of opportunity. What they want is not the same old rhetoric of equality, but the realisation of our cherished ideal of equality.

It is, after all, their confidence that is building the India of tomorrow. Moreover, the mind of the youth is shaped by teachers, who are the real architects of the nation’s future. I would also like to make a thankful mention of our farmers and labourers who toil silently and make a mighty contribution to creating a better future for the nation. On the eve of this auspicious occasion, India also gratefully salutes the members of our Armed Forces, Police and Para-military Forces, without whose valour and vigil we would not have scaled the great heights we have.

Before I conclude, let me offer my greetings to the members of the judiciary and civil services. My Republic Day greetings to the officials of India’s missions abroad and the diaspora community! Let us all dedicate ourselves to serve the nation and fellow citizens in every way we can. My best wishes to all of you in this endeavour.

Thank you.   Jai Hind!   Jai Bharat!

Here is a Republic Day Speech 2024 in English 10 lines for all students:

  • First of all, let me wish you all a very happy Republic Day, ladies and gentlemen. All Indians consider today to be important.
  • This day becomes more significant as a few of our fellow Indians express their worry about losing the fundamental freedoms that the constitution has granted us.
  • Even though we have been celebrating Republic Day as a national holiday since we were young children, we only came to fully appreciate its significance as we got older.
  • The 26th of January is designated each year as Gantantra Diwas. The Indian Constitution went into effect on this day in 1950.
  • Numerous rights and obligations are also granted to us by our constitution. People’s fundamental rights are upheld in our democratic nation.
  • Although there are many factors that divide us in society, such as caste and religion, we are all Indians on a larger scale. India is a wonderful illustration of “Unity in Diversity.” The uniqueness of our nation is that despite our varied linguistic heritage, wars, and divisions, on national holidays we all come together as one.
  • The 26th of January has been a special day for all of us since we were young. Many of us may remember this day as a festival that is observed in schools with cultural programs and other events. Some of us got up early on this day to see the Republic Day procession.
  • The military procession begins at Vijay Chowk and ends at the Red Fort in Delhi, the nation’s capital. The equipment and weapons that the army displays during the parade demonstrate the strength of our armed forces.
  • On this day, both the armed services and citizens are given awards and medals for courage. The young children who receive prizes from the prime minister for displaying the height of bravery are the major draw of the bravery awards. Everyone feels special when the helicopters of the armed services fly past the parade area and sprinkle rose petals on the spectators.
  • The national anthem brings the show to a close. You stand up to show respect for the national anthem whether you are at home or watching the parade in person. It’s a day that inspires us to see past differences in caste, creed, religion, state, language, and colour, and it helps us all feel the same way about our love for our nation.

Ending – This is all from my side. Have a wonderful Republic Day and a prosperous year ahead.

Republic Day Speech in Hindi

As Hindi is the most widely spoken language in India, we have provided the Republic Day Speech in Hindi below for the convenience of Hindi board students.

Welcome Speech for Republic Day for Students and Children

Welcome speech for republic day.

Good morning to one and all present here. I am here to present a welcome speech. As we all know that we have gathered here on a very special occasion for a democratic country “India”. Today’s day is the 72nd Republic Day of our beloved country India. Warm Greetings and a very warm welcome to all of you present here, with special mention to our Hon’ble principal, vice-principal, and respected teachers. I will share my views through my Welcome Speech on Republic Day. I would like to say a lot of thanks, my Principal Madam, as just because of her I have got such a wonderful opportunity to come on this stage and speak about my beloved country on such auspicious occasion of Republic day.

welcome speech

India is a self-governing country since 15thof August 1947, after getting freedom from the British Rule. That day we are celebrating Independence Day every year on the 15th of August in 1947. However, the constitution of India came into existence on the 26th of January in 1950 and hence making our country a full-fledged republic. This day is often celebrated with colorfully organized culture events held in every part of our country. The streets hum with patriotic songs with true spirits are found in every heart as they share in the celebrations.

Republic means the highest authority and power in the country is the people living in the country.  The only the public has the right to elect their representative political leaders to lead the country based on the constitution in the right direction. The constitution has encouraged all citizens to have equal social and economic rights.

Our Great Indian freedom fighters have struggled a lot and sacrificed their lives to get the “Purna Swaraj” means “Complete Freedom” in India. There are uncountable freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekher Ajad, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sardar Ballabh Bhai Patel and many more. Each and every citizen of this country must remember them on such a great occasion.

Our first Indian President Dr. Rajendra Prasad said that we have found the whole of this vast land brought together under the jurisdiction of one constitution, one union. It takes over responsibility for the welfare of all men and women living in it. But, unfortunately, we are still fighting with crime, corruption, violence, and terrorism in our country. These nation-wide problems are pulling our nation back from going to the path of development and progress.

Conclusion:

Therefore, there is a need to unite again to save our country from such indirect slavery. We should be aware of social evils such as poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, global warming, inequality, etc. Other than celebrating the national glory and recalling the achievements of our motherland, we should also take a pledge to eradicate the social evils from our society which is the big hurdle in the way of our country’s progress.

We all should take an oath to maintain the sovereignty of our nation. This sovereignty is priceless. With these humble words, I bow my head to the flag with the words “Jai Hind, Jai Bharat”.

In this cosmic theater of democracy, where stars become witnesses and the soil becomes a stage, the national flag unfurls with a cadence that resonates through time. The tricolor, a melange of saffron, white, and green, is not just a piece of cloth but a symbol—a herald of freedom, an emblem of resilience, and a beacon guiding the ship of state through the currents of history.

As the sun ascends, it reveals not just the grandeur of the Rashtrapati Bhavan or the meticulously orchestrated parade but the pulsating heart of a nation in dialogue with its founding principles. Republic Day is an annual convocation of citizens, a congregation where democracy is not just observed but actively participated in—a continuous conversation that transcends the boundaries of time and space.

In this narrative, Republic Day is not a standalone chapter but a continuum, with every citizen contributing their verse to the verses of a democratic epic. The celebrations are not a mere spectacle but a celebration of citizenry—an acknowledgment that democracy is not a spectator sport but an immersive experience where each participant is a co-author of the nation’s destiny.

The tableau of diversity unfolds with a choreography that defies conventional boundaries. The cultural kaleidoscope, the military precision, and the kaleidoscopic imagery of the parade are not just symbols; they are the living metaphors of a nation that embraces myriad hues, traditions, and ideologies. Republic Day is a canvas where diversity is not a challenge but a masterpiece—a living testament to the idea that unity flourishes not in homogeneity but in harmonious coexistence.

As the celebrations crescendo, Republic Day serves as an invitation—to reflect, to question, and to envision. It beckons citizens to explore the philosophical underpinnings of democracy, to question the status quo, and to reimagine a future where justice, liberty, and equality are not aspirations but lived realities.

In the grand symphony of Republic Day 2024, each note resonates with the echoes of the past, the vibrancy of the present, and the promises of the future. It is an ode to the timeless spirit that has weathered storms, celebrated victories, and danced through the corridors of history. As the sun sets on this day of celebration, the echoes linger—an indelible reminder that the tapestry of democracy is not static but an ever-evolving masterpiece, and every Republic Day is a chapter etched into the collective memory of a democratic India.

Republic Day Welcome Speech 1

Warm Greetings and a very warm welcome to all of you with special mention to our Hon’ble principal, vice principal and teachers.

I, Anshika Pandey from Class – XII (A), would like to extend my regards and express my gratitude towards my teachers, for giving me the opportunity to felicitate everyone and host this auspicious occasion of Republic Day. We have gathered today, as you all know, to celebrate the 70 th Republic Day which is celebrated nationwide, by the President of India to small children in pre-nursery schools, those who host our Tiranga Jhanda with a lot of excitement.

I need not to say more about this day because we as Indians have been celebrating this day ever since we grew up. But I don’t know how many of you know that this day is marked by a 3-day celebration in the capital city of New Delhi, whereas each of the state also celebrates this day with a lot of excitement and zeal.

The principal event of this 3-day celebration is undoubtedly the Republic day parade which is organized at Rajpath, in the presence Indian President and a guest of honor. In fact, several other states have also begun to organize such parades in order to mark this momentous day.

The celebration kick starts with the Prime Minister who pay floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, in order to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the motherland. Once the garland of flower is laid, it is followed by 21 gun salute with the national anthem being sung thereafter. Honor awards are then given away to some specific members of the armed forces or to their relatives and general population for their acts of bravery and courage. Once this is complete, the parade starts.

Needless to say that the parade is a grand event; in which the head of the state from a foreign country is always invited to watch the parade with the political leaders of our country. The parade showcases India’s military might as well as its vivid cultural heritage.

When the parade starts those who are felicitated with awards are honored by the president for their service to the motherland. There is a helicopter brigade who during the same time hovers at the India Gate and showers the gathering with rose petals. The sight of the parade looks spectacular as various dance troupes sing as well as perform while at the same time fighter planes fly overhead releasing the three colors of our Tiranga in the form of smoke trails behind them. The parade always concludes with the military members performing exciting stunts on the motorbikes.

In other words, there is a lot of preparation that goes behind the Republic Day Celebration and this throws light on the importance of this day. Now without further ado, let’s kick start the republic day celebration by calling on stage the first dance group from VII Standard.

Let’s welcome them with a huge round of applause!

Republic Day Welcome Speech 2

Respected Principal, Beloved Teachers and My Dear Students- Warm Greetings to Everyone!

As you all know that we have been gathered here on the very special occasion of the Republic Day of India. Being the Vice Principal of this school, I take the opportunity to deliver a welcome speech on Republic Day.

You as students might be wondering why we celebrate this day with pomp and show. This is done as India got independence from Britishers on 15 August 1947. This day is celebrated as Independence Day, while the Constitution of our country was enforced on 26 January 1950 which we all celebrate as the Republic Day every year. The constitution of our country is a document which is considered to be supreme in every respect. Every article is well drafted by the constituent assembly of our country.

The term Republic means the supreme power of the people living in the country and only the public has right to elect their representatives as political leaders to lead the country progressively. So, India is a “Republic” where people elect its leaders as President, Prime minister, etc. Our Great Indian freedom fighters have struggled a lot for the “Purna Swaraj” in India. They did this, so that the future generations may live without struggle and take the country forward on the road to development and growth.

The great freedom fighters of our country fought continuously against the British rule to make India a free country. You all should remember their sacrifices towards our country and pay due respect and homage. We should also remember them on such great occasions and salute them. All this has been possible just because of them as now we can think and live freely without any coercive governance in our nation.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of our country has rightly said that “This entire country has been brought together under the jurisdiction of one constitution and one union which takes over responsibility for the welfare of millions of people which inhabit it”. It brings disgrace to our country and leaders when we are still fighting with crime, corruption and violence. The need of the hour is to get together to save our country from such slavery as it is pulling our nation back from moving towards main stream development and progress. We all should be aware of social issues prevalent in our country like poverty, unemployment which stops us from going ahead.

We as teachers play a very important role in your lives and if we want to make our country corruption free, then we all should join hands and carry out possible efforts to lead our nation ahead. Small steps lead to huge differences. Every individual should make an effort and then our country would be a different place altogether. Today on this auspicious occasion we all need to take a pledge for solving such problems in the society to make our country the best country in the world.

The Journey of the Indian Republic

Republic Day 2024 Welcome Speech 3

Respected Principal, Vice Principal, Professors and My Dear Friends – Good Morning to one and all!

I, Sakshi Kalra from B.COM (H) program, welcome you all to the Republic Day Function of our college. It’s a very special occasion for all of us, as on this day the constitution of our country was adopted in the year 1950. On this day, the Government of India Act, 1935 was replaced by the Constitution of India.

Needless to say, we have our national holiday on 26 th of January where every Indian enjoys a day of complete freedom. The Constitution of India was adopted by the constituent assembly of India on 26 th January 1950. The date 26 th January was chosen because back in 1930, the Indian National Congress proclaimed “Purna Swaraj” on 26 th January.

How many of you know about who will be the chief guest on the 74 th Republic Day of India, 2019. Well, those of you who don’t know, it is going to be Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa. He is the fifth as well as the present South African President. Cyril Ramaphosa was invited by Shri Narendra Modi ji, our Prime Minister at the time of G20 summit which was conducted in Buenos Aires – the capital of Argentina in Nov-Dec 2018.

The reason why he is chosen for this momentous day is because our country is celebrating the 150 th birth anniversary of Bapu, i.e. Mahatma Gandhi who was very closely connected with the natives of South Africa. Moreover, according to PM Narendra Modi, his visit to our country will help in establishing a stronger connection with South Africa.

Other than celebrating the national glory and reveling in the achievements of our motherland, we should also take pledge to uproot the social evils from our society which is hindering in the way of our country’s progress. Corruption, poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, etc. are the social evils that are not letting our country attain an overall development. After all, how can a nation prosper when the majority of its population is suffering from unemployment, poverty and lack of opportunities?

Every year we hear the messages of patriotism, brotherhood, unity and integrity, but how many of us really bother to keep our country united irrespective of our caste, class, race and religious differences? In the act of pursuing our selfish interests, we should never forget the sacrifices of our great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the motherland and our soldiers who fight on borders just to secure us and our country from any sort of terrorist attack.

So while rejoicing in the glory of our country and its accomplishments, we should try and bring a positive change in ourselves by bringing purity in our thoughts, love and warmth in our hearts as well as sensibility towards others. Only then will we become a better nation and a better place to live in.

The celebration thereafter will be a real celebration and this is the only way to pay actual homage to our freedom fighters.

Republic Day 2024 Welcome Speech 4

Hello Everyone – Warm Welcome to the Republic Day Celebration in our office auditorium!

I, Sonakshi Kalra from ABC Group, feel extremely delighted to host this event on such an auspicious day. Needless to say, this is a very important date for all of us as on this day, i.e. 26 th January 1950 the Constitution of India was adopted. For every nation, there are some specific days which are marked as red-letter days. For us as Indians, the Republic Day has been marked as one such day which is celebrated nationwide with great zeal. Why this day is important is because with this day our country became a republic nation. Therefore, this day holds a lot of importance in our lives as Indians and why we look so forward to it every year.

Let’s trace the origin of the Republic Day! It goes back to the pre-independent times of 1929 during which the Indian National Congress Party at the time of its session in Lahore passed a resolution under the aegis of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru – then President of the Indian National Congress. The resolution was the declaration of the ‘Complete Independence’ and celebrating this day as the Independence Day across the country.

However, later on when the Constitution of India came into force in the year 1950 on 26th January, India was declared as a sovereign, republic and democratic nation. Since then, the day has been historicized as Republic Day of our country.

The ceremony kick starts in the morning itself where the wreath is laid down at the Amar Jawan Jyothi by the Prime Minister at the India Gate. It is a way of paying homage to our martyrs or great freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for their motherland. At sharp 8 am, our president arrives at the Rajpath accompanied by the Chief Guest. They are given a warm welcome by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, including the Defence Minister.

After arriving at the specially designed podium, our president hoists the national flag. Soon after this, the Republic Day parade begins which I am sure all of us eagerly await. The march, as we all know, is led by war heroes, the armed forces, who are honored with the gallantry award. They are then followed by young girls and boys who have bagged National Bravery Award in that respective year.

As the sun sets, the Raisina Hill where the Rashtrapathi Bhavan is situated is decked up with lights thereby presenting a spectacular glittering view. The celebration lasts for 3 days and is brought to a close in the evening of 28 th January with a ceremony called the ‘Beating the Retreat Ceremony’. This ceremony is indeed very impressive as it is organized by our armed forces. Other than this, Republic Day celebrations are organized in a grand manner in district headquarters, state capitals, Panchayats as well as Blocks which are attended by the local public.

To sum up, Republic Day is considered a great historical day the importance of which cannot be undermined in any manner. So let’s come together and make this day joyous; full of rapture and excitement. Delivering a 26th January speech in English is a tradition observed by many leaders and dignitaries during India’s Republic Day celebrations

Sample Speech for Indian Republic Day

introduction speech on republic day

Good morning all. I am glad to be present among you all today and celebrate this charming day and honor those heroes who gave every Indian to govern themselves.

Ladies and gentlemen 26 January was chosen as the Republic Day because it was on this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence ( Pura Swaraj ) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime.

On 28 August 1947, the Drafting Committee was appointed to draft a permanent constitution, with Dr. B.R Ambedkar as chairman. A draft constitution was prepared by the committee and submitted to the assembly on 4 November 1947.

The Assembly met, in sessions open to the public, for 166 days, spread over a period of 12 years, 11 months, and 18 days before adopting the constitution.

After many deliberations and some modifications, the 308 members of the Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English) on 24 January 1950. Two days later, it came into effect throughout the whole nation.

Today we as a country still face a lot of problems; corruption, crime, caste politics, terrorism, and more. Is this the dream our freedom fighter and constitution maker saw?

I think “No”. Today on the 70th Republic Day, let us dream again of a free, fair, and happy nation. We have talent, people, and hope; there is only the need to get together and see this one dream. There is nothing impossible for our country if we forget our differences and come together as a nation. Let’s make India great again.

On that note, allow me to thank you (Principal) for giving me this wonderful opportunity to speak about my beloved country. Thank you all for listening to my thoughts, have a nice day ahead.   (Some of the Speech Text from Dejavuh.com)

After the Speech

Thank you, sir. for sharing your precious thoughts with the audience and I am sure that they enjoyed listening to your words.

India is the cradle of the human, race, the birthplace of human, speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great-grandmother of tradition. The most valuable and most artistic materials in the history of man are treasured in India only.

Happy Republic Day.
