Compared to other online presentation software is a bit costly and we could still ask a bit more from the presentation templates. We’d recommend it to someone who often uses infographics and wants to use a single platform to combine the infographics with a presentation. But why not check our free infographics as well?

Slides is online presentation software, initially aimed at developers and covering their presentation needs. Thus said, it does not offer offline editing, but you can present offline, after exporting your presentation.

Best Features:  It allows you to use your phone as a remote control; Live Present Mode allows you to control what your audience sees; drop in code, iframes, and SVGs with ease. Price:  Free, with paid plans starting at $7.00/month and $14-$18/month for pro and team packages. They offer a free trial. Learning curve:  friendly interface, but too many functions and options, which might overwhelm the average user and beginner Available for: Online Perfect for:  developers, designers, a little bit too specific for newbies

To summarize, it’s a very cool tool, giving you complete design freedom, but that is also why we do not recommend it to teachers, non-designers, or marketers. Developers and design gurus will love it.

Canva is a web-based solution that started with a mission – to make beautiful designed content available to everyone. The whole platform is organized so that a person without any prior design knowledge can easily create graphs, images, and presentations to impress. Although it is not the best tool for data visualization, it scores high in any other category. Needless to say, it has become a popular choice amongst non-designers.

9. Controversial Questions 

Want to see where your audience, students, or team lands on controversial topics? Then, energize your presentation with a fun, creative game called Controversial Questions. This activity has prompts that inspire lively debates, so it's a great way to get your group excited and chatty. 

However, to maintain a positive environment, make sure to find a tool that offers an office-friendly, classroom-friendly, and conference-friendly game. You don't want to sour the mood by creating uncomfortable division during your presentation. To make sure this game is fun and light-hearted, here's a popular one that's suitable for all audiences and ages: 

• Sign up for a free account by inputting an email address and password here:  https://slideswith.com/pricing  
• Click the game and press the button that says, "Copy and use this deck." 
• Press "Start Event" (the button is in the top right corner). 
• Have participants join the fun by asking them to scan the QR code with their mobile devices. 
• Get controversial and play! 

This interactive game for presentations asks fun (but appropriate) questions like:

• Does pineapple belong on pizza?
• Does the person flying in the middle seat get both armrests?
• Should the toilet roll go over or under? 

Players should use their mobile devices to submit answers. Up to ten people can play for free, and you can customize the game by updating the questions!

10. Word of the Day 

With this activity, you can keep your audience, team, or students engaged throughout your entire presentation. This  game requires listeners to be alert and recognize whenever you say the word of the day. 

Here's how to play: At the beginning of your presentation, tell your group the word of the day (it can also be a phrase if you'd prefer). Say that you'll weave the word into your presentation and that your audience must shout it out whenever you mention it. 

11. Mini Activity: Group Icebreaker

Whether you're doing an in-person or virtual presentation, you need to warm up your audience to get things started on a positive note. The best way to do that is with a quick icebreaker game. 

However, make sure your questions are fun, positive, and engaging. You can easily do this by finding a game that already has the best icebreaker questions included. Here's one that's ready to play (and requiring no tech skills to launch): 

• Input an email address and password to make a free account here: https://slideswith.com/  
• Click the deck and copy it (press "Copy and use this deck). 
• Click the button in the top right corner that says "Start Event."
• Invite participants to play by asking them to scan the QR code. 
• Break the ice to warm up your audience!

Your group should use their mobile devices to submit responses to poll questions. Also, this game accommodates up to 250 players, but only ten people can join for free.

12. Process of Elimination 

This activity is one of the best games for presentations because it's simple yet fun and great at helping listeners get to know each other. You can play it at the beginning of your presentation or in the middle to give your group a chance to stretch their legs. 

• Before your event, create a list of "yes or no" questions. 
• Once you're ready to play, tell your group to stand up (if you're doing a virtual presentation, make sure everyone's video is on). 
• Ask each question one by one. 
• Tell attendees to stand if their answer is "yes" and sit if their answer is "no." 

The questions can relate to your topic or be totally random. Also, if you'd prefer to thin out the number of people standing, you can take a creative twist and ask your questions by saying something like this: "Stay standing if (insert scenario)." When phrasing each question this way, the game will end with one person standing. To acknowledge the winner, you can give them a round of applause or award them a prize. 

13. Conference Opener Icebreaker 

If you're speaking at a big conference, you need an interactive game for presentations that can get everyone involved and ensure every voice is heard. To achieve these goals, you should create an icebreaker game that works for large groups . 

Using an easy, intuitive template is the best step to take. That way, you don't have to start from scratch or spend hours making your game. For a template that requires no code or tech-savviness to build on, here's the best option:

This template has fun, interactive features built in to keep your large audience engaged. Those features include polls, word clouds, and ratings. Just make sure you sign up for a paid plan to accommodate the large number of people in your group—the free account only works for up to ten players. 

14. Two Truths and a Lie 

This classic game is a fun, energizing way to help your listeners get to know one another. It's perfect for small in-person or virtual groups and is an ideal activity for the beginning of your presentation. 

Here's how to play: Pick any topic (for the purposes of this article, the topic will be "movies"). In no particular order, say two movies you've really watched and one you haven't watched. Ask your audience to guess which statement is the lie. The winner picks the next topic and says two truths and a lie. 

Be Memorable With Presentation Games

Oftentimes, people forget presentations within a week or even days, and that's because the discussions are boring. But you don't work hard preparing a presentation for it to be forgotten. If you want your message to stick, all you have to do is make it enjoyable without being corny.

In the digital age, teachers have an impressive selection of technological resources to help facilitate classes, engage students, and streamline processes. The problem, however, is that because there’s such an abundance of tools, it can be difficult to know which to use, and how to understand the value they bring to education. 

Currently, more than 65% of teachers incorporate digital learning tools into their classes on a daily basis. As these tools increase in popularity – and curriculums are even designed for and around these tools – technology is becoming an inherent vehicle for students’ growth. With that in mind, we’ve curated a list of the best technology tools for the classroom, as well as a recap of why technology tools are important and how they’re shaping the schools of tomorrow.

What Are Technology Tools?

A technology tool is an electronic, digital, or physical resource that can support teachers in the delivery and testing of content. Technology tools include apps, platforms, and software, and can be used in virtual, hybrid, or traditional learning environments.

Digital literacy is on the rise, with many young students being adept with technology early on and are familiar with technology as an essential component of everyday life. In education, technology tools can help further students’ abilities, provide innovative ways to work, and offer access to new experiences. Desmos is a math-centered platform with a number of tools to help students visualize equations and plot graphs. Tools include the graphic calculator, scientific calculator, geometry tool, and practice tests. Students can additionally enjoy specially-designed math quizzes and games.

Technology Tools for Communication and Collaboration

A free tool from Microsoft, Flip is a video-sharing and discussion app. In the app, teachers can build “grids” that enable students to connect and collaborate in small groups, as well as share relevant content.

Seesaw is for elementary school teachers and has multimodal tools for students to fully express themselves in the learning journey. The app makes learning and communication simple, giving teachers access to student messages, progress, and lessons on any device.

Technology Tools for Design and Development

Canva is a free graphic design tool that allows students and teachers alike to construct presentations, posters, infographics, logos, videos, and more. Plus, with free templates and design tips, users can work together to let their creativity flow.

Known as an “all-in-one sidekick” for teachers, Kami is a digital platform with more than 40 features to personalize learning for students. Via the platform, teachers can upload resources like slides and images, and convert them into dynamic lessons and tasks. Additionally, teachers can give feedback through voice, video, and screen capture.

Buncee is a creation and presentation tool with multiple pathways for students to communicate their learning experience. With 2,000 templates to choose from, students can design creative content for assignments and feedback purposes.

Pear Deck is an add-on for Google slides, aimed at keeping students’ attention both in the classroom and in remote settings. With Pear Deck, teachers can integrate formative assessments and interactive questions, add audio, and utilize a teacher dashboard directly to presentations.

GoGuardian unifies schools’ filtering, classroom engagement, and mental health tools in a single place. Not only does the platform fuel classroom management, but it can also notify staff about high-risk online activity among students. 

Assistive Technology Tools

Sas codesnaps.

The SAS CodeSnaps app is a collaborative coding environment that takes advantage of printed coding blocks to empower students to work outside of an electronic device. Alongside Sphero's BOLT robot , these tools support students with visual impairments and are great for students who learn deeper with kinesthetic activities.

Total Caption CART services

Total Caption has a range of services that accommodate students with hearing loss. Tools include ASL interpretation, remote captioning, multi-language translation, and customized Zoom settings.

Livescribe pens use clever technology to take snapshots of handwritten notes to recreate the content in a digital format and convert it into audio. Students and teachers can then easily navigate through content and not be limited by visual or cognitive impairments that make handwriting difficult to interpret.

These are just a handful of the technology tools available for educators. The Cool Tools workshops have come to an end. The 2018-19 school year was the last year the workshop was offered. The website content will remain relevant for some time, but won’t be fully updated after 2020.

It’s been an enormous pleasure working with so many dedicated, enthusiastic and innovative educators over the many years I’ve been coordinating this workshop. Close to 1,000 librarians, classroom teachers, administrators and more have participated over the years. Thousands more have benefited from the content shared here and by workshop participants taking ideas back to their schools.
