What is a Dissertation?
A dissertation is a complex and comprehensive academic project students must complete towards the end of their degree programme. It requires deep independent research on a topic approved by your tutor. A dissertation contains five chapters – introduction, literature review, methodology, discussion, and conclusion. This is the standard structure for a dissertation unless stated otherwise by your tutor or institution.
Writing a Dissertation Proposal
After selecting a topic, the next step is preparing a proposal. A dissertation proposal is a plan or outline of the research you intend to conduct. It gives a background to the topic, lays out your research aims and objectives, and gives details of the research methodology you intend to use.
If your university accepts your proposal, you can start work on the dissertation paper. If it’s not accepted at first, make amendments to the proposal based on your supervisor’s feedback.
Referencing
Referencing is not some little detail at the end of the paper. Without correct referencing, even a brilliant paper can fail miserably. Citing every source accurately is an absolute must.
Don't Neglect Small Details.
Completing a dissertation proves you can carry out something thoroughly. Therefore, you should attend to each part of the dissertation and omit nothing.
Things like creating a table of contents with the page numbers listed, the reference list, and appendices are all parts of a dissertation. They all contribute to your grade. Look at our dissertation samples and writing guides to get a good understanding.
Choosing Your Dissertation Topic
Choosing a dissertation topic is the first step towards writing a dissertation. However, you should make sure the topic is relevant to your degree programme. It should investigate a specific problem and contribute towards the existing literature.
In order to stay motivated throughout the process, the research topic should be in line with your interests. At ResearchProspect, our expert academics can provide you with unique, manageable topics so you can choose one that suits your needs. Whether you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student, topics from ResearchProspect can go a long way towards helping you achieve your desired grade.
How to Write a Dissertation
Acceptance of your dissertation proposal is the starting signal. Check out our dissertation writing service and look through our thesis samples to grasp the typical writing style.
Structure of a Dissertation
You have a topic and it’s been accepted. Now comes the structure and format. The first chapter will introduce the topic, the second should then explore it deeply and discuss relevant models, frameworks, and concepts.
The third chapter is where you explain your methodology in detail. The fourth and fifth chapters are for discussing the results and concluding the research, respectively.
Our full dissertation samples and writing guides will help you better understand dissertation structure and formatting.

Limited use of biomass has been observed in recent years. The processes of electricity and heat production in conventional boilers and fluidized bed boilers generate waste – mainly fly ash. This waste is traditionally used in many industries. The most important are: mining, production of building materials (including cement) and road construction. The use of fly ash in underground mining (suspension technology) is a method of fly ash recovery, which is typical for the Polish industry. The amount of fly ash (10 01 02) and waste (10 01 82) including ashes from fluidized bed boilers in the year 2012 amounted to 1,490.7 thousand tons. For many years, fly ashes from hard coal combustion in conventional boilers has also been used in various production technologies of building materials, such as: cement, concrete, building ceramics and lightweight aggregates. The ashes from hard coal combustion in fluidized bed boilers are also used in the production of cement and autoclaved aerated concre...

Morphology, chemical composition and mineralogy of fly ash from a coal-fueled power plant have been investigated. Optical and scanning electron microscopic examinations on both untreated particle samples and thin sections have enabled the investigation of internal and superficial microstructure. Chemical and diffractometric analyses performed on fly ash samples, fractionated by means of magnetic and gravimetric separators, associated the particle morphology to the elemental and mineralogical composition. A classification of single particles was achieved as follows: 1) glassy aluminosilicate with avariable composition; 2) spongy carbonaceous; 3) spherical metallic particles constituted of different iron oxide phases (magnetite, hematite, maghemite); 4) spherical rutile particles; 5) spherical lime particles; 6) mineral formless particles (i.e. quartz and mullite). The mineralogical composition of the coal utilized during instack samplings is also given. Lastly a correlation between t...

During the combustion of coal for energy production an industrial by-product is generated known as Fly Ash, is recognized as a hazardous environmental pollutant. Globally, a lot of considerable research has been undertaken by the researchers and scientists on this subject because of various environmental problems caused by Fly Ash. In recent past it is only being treated as waste and a source of air and water pollution but is in fact a resource material and has also proven its worth over a period of time. The present paper reviews on the potential applications for coal Fly Ash as a eco-friendly raw material: in construction of building materials like bricks and Portland cement, in painting application, application in TL Dosimetries, as a soil amelioration agent in agriculture, in the synthesis of zeolite, in the synthesis of geo-polymers, as an adsorbent for flue gases, as a removal agent for toxic metals, dyes, organic & inorganic compounds from waste water and for the extraction of the metals. Since at different locations the property of Fly Ash varies; thus we required analyzing its variability parameter for utilizing it effectively. Hence, before the utilization of Fly Ash as a eco-friendly resource material, it is necessary to study properties of Fly Ash from different sources, so that it can be used beneficially. Thus Fly Ash management is a cause of concern for the future. This article attempts to highlight the management of waste Fly Ash to make use of this solid waste, in order to save our environment.

Acknowledgement for Dissertation [With Example]
Writing a dissertation is a significant academic undertaking that requires extensive research, critical analysis, and original contributions to the chosen field of study. In the process of crafting a comprehensive dissertation, it is essential to recognize the individuals and institutions that have supported and contributed to the successful completion of the work. This is where acknowledgement play a crucial role.
What is acknowledgement in dissertation?
Acknowledgement in dissertation allows the author to recognize and thank the individuals and organizations who contributed to the completion of the dissertation. Whether it’s a mentor, advisor, family member, or funding agency, acknowledging their support and assistance is not only a professional courtesy, but also an important aspect of academic integrity.
Acknowledgement provides a personal touch to a scholarly document, highlighting the relationships and networks that underpin the research and writing process. In this article, we will delve into the significance of acknowledgements in dissertation writing and explore how to effectively craft this section to show appreciation for those who have contributed to the research.
How to write acknowledgement for dissertation?
When writing acknowledgement, it is important to consider cultural considerations, length, and tone to ensure that contributors are appropriately acknowledged. Acknowledgement should be respectful and inclusive of diverse cultural backgrounds, recognizing the unique contributions that individuals from different cultures bring to the project.
When writing acknowledgement , it is important to strike the right balance between brevity and comprehensiveness. While it is important to acknowledge all contributors, it is equally important to keep the acknowledgement concise and focused.
In terms of length, acknowledgement should be kept to a page or less, and should not overshadow the main content of the work. It is crucial to maintain a formal and professional tone in acknowledgements, avoiding overly casual language or personal anecdotes.
In acknowledging contributors appropriately, it is essential to follow these steps:
- Identify all individuals who have made significant contributions to the project, including researchers, advisors, and funders.
- Clearly specify the nature of each individual’s contribution, whether it be through research, financial support, or guidance.
- Use a formal and respectful tone when expressing gratitude, using appropriate titles and honorifics where applicable.
- Be mindful of the cultural backgrounds of contributors and ensure that acknowledgements are sensitive to any cultural considerations.
- Check for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that all contributors are properly acknowledged and that their contributions are accurately represented.
Sample Acknowledgement for Dissertation
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Professor John Smith, for his invaluable guidance, feedback, and support throughout my research. His extensive knowledge and experience were instrumental in the completion of this dissertation.
I am also extremely thankful to my co-supervisor, Dr Jane Doe, for her insightful suggestions and encouragement over the years. Her critical questions and comments pushed me to sharpen my thinking and brought greater depth to this work.
In addition, I wish to acknowledge the generous financial support of the University Scholarship Committee. Without their funding, this research project would not have been feasible.
My appreciation also goes out to the library staff for their assistance in accessing various resources, and the IT support team for their help with the technological aspects of my project. Their collective efforts enabled me to conduct my research efficiently.
I would also like to mention my friends and family for their incredible understanding, patience, and backing during this PhD journey. They kept me grounded and reminded me there is life outside my research bubble.
Finally, I dedicate this dissertation to my parents, who instilled in me from a young age the value of education and supported me every step of the way. Their unwavering belief in my abilities inspired me to set high goals and work diligently towards achieving them.
