શિક્ષણ આપણા જીવન દરમિયાન મહત્વપૂર્ણ છે કારણ કે તે જ રીતે આપણે નવી વસ્તુઓ અને કુશળતા શીખીએ છીએ. વિષય વિશેનું યોગ્ય શિક્ષણ આપણને આત્મવિશ્વાસ અને સ્પષ્ટતા સાથે જીવનની પરિસ્થિતિઓનો સામનો કરવા માટે માહિતગાર, તૈયાર અને જાગૃત રહેવામાં મદદ કરે છે.

દરેક વ્યક્તિને શિક્ષિત કરવાની જરૂર છે. શિક્ષિત એટલે લોકો અને સમાજ તરફથી સન્માન મેળવવું. જો તમારે સુખી અને આરામદાયક જીવન જીવવું હોય તો તમારે શિક્ષિત બનવું પડશે. પરિણામે શિક્ષણ લોકોને સ્વતંત્રતા મેળવવામાં મદદ કરી શકે છે. બીજી તરફ, શિક્ષણ વ્યક્તિને આર્થિક રીતે સુરક્ષિત કરી શકે છે. શિક્ષણની મદદથી વ્યક્તિ પ્રમાણભૂત જીવન સેટ કરી શકે છે અને યોગ્ય નિર્ણય લઈ શકે છે.

નીચે આપેલ ગુજરાતીમાં  100 , 200  અને 500 શબ્દોમાં નિબંધ ધોરણ 5 થી  10 ,  11  અને  12  માટે ઉપયોગી થશે.

ગુજરાતી નિબંધ | નિબંધ લેખન એટલે શું | all gujarati nibandh list, નિબંધ લેખન એટલે શું.

• નિબંધના ‘શીર્ષક' વિશે સૌપ્રથમ વિચાર થવો જોઈએ. શીર્ષકના આધારે નિબંધલેખનમાં કહ્યા મુદાઓ સમાવવા તેનો ખ્યાલ આવે છે. 
• નિબંધના બધા મુદ્દાઓનું અનુસંધાન તેનું શીર્ષક બની રહેવું જોઈએ. વિષયની બહાર જઈ મુદાઓની ચર્ચા કરવી-એમાં વિષયનું તાદૃશ્ય જળવાઈ શકતું નથી.
• શીર્ષકના આધારે તેના મુદાઓની નોંધ કર્યા પછી કયા મુદ્દાને કેટલો અને કેવી રીતે વિસ્તારવો છે તેનું મનન કરવું જોઈએ.
• મુદ્દાને અનુરૂપ અને વિષયને સંગત હોય તેવા અવતરણો, કહેવતો, રૂઢિપ્રયોગો, ગુજરાતી કે અન્ય જાણીતી ભાષાની પંક્તિઓ, સુભાષિતો, વગેરેનો ઉપયોગ નિબંધમાં કરવા જોઈએ, નિબંધના મુદાઓમાં અલગ-અલગ સ્થાને તે મુકાય; એકસાથે બધી જ પંક્તિઓ એક જ મુદામાં ન લખાય તેની સાવધાની રાખવી જોઈએ.
• વાક્યો અતિશય લાંબો ન થાય તેનો લખતી વખતે ખાસ ખ્યાલ રાખવો.
• પરિચ્છેદની સપ્રમાણતા જળવાઈ રહે તેવી કાળજી કરવી, અને
• વિરામચિહ્નોનો યોગ્ય ઉપયોગ થાય, અનુસ્વાર, જોડણી વગેરે પણ યોગ્ય રીતે લખાય તેની ખાસ કાળજી રાખવી.
• નિબંધનો પ્રથમ મુદ્દો પ્રસ્તાવના અને છેલ્લે મુદ્દો ઉપસંહાર યોગ્ય રીતે લખાય તે ખાસ જોવું. નિબંધના થોડા નમુનાઓ જોઈ જવાથી આ કુશળતા આવી જશે.
• કાગળમાં યોગ્ય હાંસિયો રખાય, મુદાઓ લખવામાં થોડા મોટા અક્ષર લખાય, ફકરા-પરિચ્છેદની શરૂઆતમાં યોગ્ય જગ્યા છોડાય અને પ્રત્યેક પેટા મુદાને અંતે ગુરુવિરામ મુકાય તે પણ ખાસ જોવું.
• પરીક્ષામાં પુછાતા નિબંધો વિદ્યાર્થીની વય-કક્ષા અને અનુભવ જગતને ધ્યાને રાખીને જ પુછાય છે, એટલે ‘શીર્ષક’ ઉપર થોડું મનન કરવાથી તે વિષય-નિરૂપણ માટેના મુદ્દાઓ અને રજૂઆતના શબ્દો અવશ્ય મળી આવે છે, પણ હા, એ માટે અગાઉ થોડા નિબંધો જોઈ જવા જરૂરી ગણાય.
• નિબંધ પૂરેપૂરો લખાઈ જાય પછી તેને ઓછામાં ઓછા એક વખત અવશ્ય વાંચી જવો જોઈએ, જેથી તેમાં રહેલી નાની પણ જરૂરી ક્ષતિઓ સુધારી શકાય છે
• સારું લખાણ લખવા માટે રોજબરોજની વૈશ્વિક, રાષ્ટ્રીય, પ્રાદેશિક અને આજુબાજુની મહત્ત્વની ઘટનાઓ વિશે જાણકારી પ્રાપ્ત થતી રહેવી જોઈએ. એ માટે વર્તમાનપત્રો, સામયિકો, સમાચારો સાથે નાતો જોડવો-જોડી રાખવો જોઈએ.
• પુરુષાર્થ એટલે શું ? 
• પુરુષાર્થ વિશે બીજાના - અનુભવીઓના કેવા ખ્યાલો છે ? 
• નસીબથી બધું સારું ગોઠવી શકાય કે પુરુષાર્થનો ખપ પડે ? 
• પ્રારબ્ધીઓ અને પુરુષાર્થીઓ બંનેમાંથી કોણ ચડિયાતું ગણાય ? 
• આપણે કેવા બનવું જોઈએ ? 
• પુરુષાર્થ દ્વારા કંઈક પામ્યાં હોય એવાં કોણ કોણ ?

• તમે પહેલાં નક્કી કરો કે તમે કયા પ્રકારનો નિબંધ વધુ સારી રીતે લખી શકો. તમને ખ્યાલ તો હશે જ કે નિબંધ વિવિધ પ્રકારના હોય છે. પ્રકૃતિવિષયક, માહિતીપ્રધાન, ઘટનાપ્રધાન, ચિંતનપ્રધાન, આત્મકથા - જેવા નિબંધો લખવાના થતા હોય છે.
• તમે જે નિબંધ લખવા માંગો છો તેમાં કઈ વીગતો આવી શકે, તે વિચારો અને નોંધો. તેના મુદ્દા તારવો. આ મુદ્દાની કાચી યાદી બનાવો. ત્યાર બાદ મુદ્દાની ક્રમિકતા નક્કી કરો. કયો મુદો પહેલા લેવાથી તમારો નિબંધ વધુ ચુસ્ત બનશે અને લખાણ વધુ પ્રવાહી લાગશે.
• તમે સમાનાર્થી શબ્દો, વિરુદ્ધાર્થ શબ્દો, રૂઢિપ્રયોગ, કહેવત, દુહાઓ વગેરેનો અભ્યાસ કર્યો છે. તેનો ઉપયોગ કરો અને તમારા લખાણને વધુ સચોટ અને અસરકારક બનાવો.
• પસંદ કરેલા નિબંધ અનુસાર તમારી ભાષા હોવી જોઈએ.
• જો તમે પ્રકૃતિવર્ણનનો વિષય પસંદ કર્યો હોય તો તેમાં પ્રકૃતિનું દૃશ્ય નજર સામે ઊભું થઈ જાય તેવું, સૂક્ષ્મ વીગતો સાથે વર્ણન કરવું જોઈએ. પ્રકૃતિના રમ્ય - રૌદ્ર રૂપની વાત કરતી વખતે તેને માનવસ્વભાવની સંકુલતા સાથે પણ સાંકળી શકાય. પ્રકૃતિ મન - હૃદયને સ્પર્શતી હોય છે. તેથી તેમાં પ્રયોજાયેલાં ભાવવાચક, ઉદ્ગારવાચક વાક્યો પણ નિબંધને વધુ હૃદયસ્પર્શી બનાવી શકે.
• જો તમે માહિતીપ્રધાન નિબંધ લખવા માગતા હોવ તો તમારી પાસે મુદાઓને અનુરૂપ માહિતી હોવી જોઈએ. જરૂરી પરિભાષા, તેના લાભ-ગેરલાભ અંગે અથવા પક્ષ-વિપક્ષ અંગેની માહિતી, તેનાં કારણો, ઉપાયો વગેરે જેવી વીગતો સમાવી લેવી જોઈએ.
• ઘટનાપ્રધાન નિબંધ લખવા માગતા હોવ તો એ ઘટનાનું તમારે મન શું મહત્ત્વ છે, વ્યક્તિગત અથવા સામાજિક સંદર્ભોમાં એ ઘટના વિશેષ છે ? તમારા મનમાં રોપાયેલી ઘટના વાચનારના મનમાં રોપાય તેવું વર્ણન ઘટનાપ્રધાન નિબંધને આસ્વાદ્ય બનાવી શકે.
• જો તમારે આત્મનાત્મક નિબંધ લખવો હોય તો તમે વિચારી જુઓ કે તમને કેવી વાત સાંભળવામાં રસ પડી શકે? કોઈ પોતાની આત્મકથા કહે તો કોણ સાંભળ. ક્યારે સાંભળે? તેથી આ પ્રકારના નિબંધમાં બોલચાલની લઢણ નિબંધને આકર્ષક બનાવી શકે. વળી, જે પોતાના જીવનના અંતિમ તબક્કામાં હોય, તે પોતાના જીવનના સારરૂપ કોઈ સંદેશ આપે, તેથી કોઈ પણ આત્મકથા જે જીવનસંદેશ આપતી હોય તો તેનું મહત્ત્વ હોય.

નવી રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ 2020

શાળાઓ અને કોલેજોમાં શિક્ષણ માટેની નવી નીતિ તૈયાર કરવામાં આવી છે. ભારત સરકારે નવી રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ 2023 શરૂ કરી છે, જે અંતર્ગત સરકારે શિક્ષણ નીતિમાં ઘણા મોટા ફેરફારો કર્યા છે. જે અંતર્ગત ભારતને વૈશ્વિક જ્ઞાન મહાસત્તા બનાવવામાં આવશે અને હવે માનવ સંસાધન પ્રબંધન મંત્રાલય રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય તરીકે ઓળખાશે. શાળા શિક્ષણમાં 100% GR સાથે, પૂર્વ-શાળા માધ્યમિક શાળા સુધી શિક્ષણનું સાર્વત્રિકકરણ કરવામાં આવશે, અગાઉ 10+2 ની પેટર્ન અનુસરવામાં આવતી હતી. પરંતુ હવે નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ 5+3+3+4 પેટર્ન ફોલો હશે. અને આ રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિનો 2014ની સામાન્ય ચૂંટણીમાં ભારતીય જનતા પાર્ટીના ઘોષણાપત્રમાં પણ સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ લાઈવ ડેશબોર્ડ શરૂ કરવામાં આવશે

જૂન 2021 થી National Education Policy ની સફળતા પર દેખરેખ રાખવા માટે લાઇવ ડેશબોર્ડ શરૂ કરવામાં આવશે. આ યોજના હેઠળ, કોલેજ અને યુનિવર્સિટી સ્તરે નીતિગત ફેરફારો અમલીકરણ પછી ઉમેરવામાં આવશે. શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય દ્વારા 181 કાર્યોની ઓળખ કરવામાં આવી છે, જે શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ પૂર્ણ કરવાના રહેશે.

અંડરગ્રેજ્યુએટ અને ગ્રેજ્યુએટ કોર કોર્સમાં વિષય વિકલ્પ, પ્રાદેશિક ભાષા શ્રેષ્ઠ શિક્ષણ, યુનિવર્સિટીની ડિગ્રીમાં પ્રવેશ અને ઉપાડની સુવિધા, ક્રેડિટ બેંક સિસ્ટમ વગેરે સમાવેશ થાય છે. કર્ણાટક, ઉત્તર પ્રદેશ, મહારાષ્ટ્ર અને ગોવાની સરકારો દ્વારા રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિના એક્શન 1નો અભ્યાસ કરવા અને પડકારોને સરળ બનાવવા માટે એક ટાસ્ક ફોર્સની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવશે. શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય દ્વારા માસિક અને ત્રિમાસિક ધોરણે ડેશબોર્ડની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવશે. દરેક ક્રિયાને મોનિટર કરવા અને ટ્રેક કરવા માટે એક મર્યાદા નક્કી કરવામાં આવશે જેની માહિતી રાજ્ય એજન્સીને આપવામાં આવશે.

રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ સાર્થક યોજના શરૂ કરવામાં આવી

શિક્ષણનું સ્તર સુધારવા માટે સરકાર દ્વારા સતત પ્રયાસો કરવામાં આવી રહ્યા છે. આ માટે સરકાર દ્વારા વિવિધ ફેરફારો કરવામાં આવશે. તાજેતરમાં જ સરકાર દ્વારા National Education Policy લોન્ચ કરવામાં આવી છે. રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિની સફળ કામગીરી માટે, શિક્ષણ મંત્રી રમેશ પોખરિયાલ નિશંક ગુણવત્તાયુક્ત શિક્ષણ દ્વારા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ અને શિક્ષકો માટે સર્વગ્રાહી વિકાસ યોજના શરૂ કરવા જઈ રહ્યા છે. તેના આધારે તૈયાર કરવામાં આવેલા રાજ્યો, કેન્દ્રશાસિત પ્રદેશો વગેરે જેવા હિતધારકોની ચર્ચા અને સૂચનો પછી અર્થપૂર્ણ આયોજન પણ કરવામાં આવશે.

આ સંદર્ભે, શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય દ્વારા હિતધારકો પાસેથી સૂચનો પણ માંગવામાં આવ્યા હતા. શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલયને લગભગ 7177 સૂચનો મળ્યા છે. શિક્ષણ નીતિની ભલામણોના 297 કામોને રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિમાં એકસાથે જોડવામાં આવશે. જેના માટે જવાબદાર એજન્સી અને સમય મર્યાદા પણ નક્કી કરવામાં આવી છે. આ યોજના હેઠળ નક્કી કરવામાં આવેલા તમામ કામો માટે 304 પરિણામો આવ્યા છે.

નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિનો ઉદ્દેશ્ય

આ ઉદ્દેશ્ય ભારતમાં આપવામાં આવતા શિક્ષણને વૈશ્વિક સ્તરે લાવવાનો છે. જેથી કરીને ભારત વૈશ્વિક જ્ઞાન મહાસત્તા બની શકે. રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ શિક્ષણનું સાર્વત્રિકકરણ કરવામાં આવશે અને રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ 2023માં જૂની સરકાર દ્વારા શિક્ષણ નીતિ બદલાશે. શિક્ષામિત્રની ગુણવત્તા સુધરશે અને બાળકો સારું શિક્ષણ મેળવી શકશે તે માટે ઘણા ફેરફારો કરવામાં આવ્યા છે.

• સાર્થક યોજના દ્વારા નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ માટે 1 વર્ષની અમલીકરણ યોજના તૈયાર કરવામાં આવી છે.
• આ યોજનામાં એ પણ નક્કી કરવામાં આવ્યું છે કે રાજ્ય નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિમાં જરૂરિયાત મુજબ ફેરફાર પણ કરી શકે છે.

આ શિક્ષણનીતિ હેઠળ આપવામાં આવતી સુવિધાઓ

• શાળાઓએ પણ સુનિશ્ચિત કરવું પડશે કે, મધ્યાહન ભોજનની ગુણવત્તા સારી છે કે નહીં. જેથી બાળકને લંચબોક્સ લાવવાની જરૂર ન પડે અને શાળાઓમાં પાણીની સુવિધા યોગ્ય રીતે ઉપલબ્ધ હોવી જોઈએ. જેથી બાળકને પાણીની બોટલ પણ લાવવી ન પડે. સુવિધાઓને કારણે સ્કૂલ બેગની સાઈઝ ઓછી થશે.
• નેશનલ એજ્યુકેશન પોલિસી હેઠળ બાળકોના હોમવર્કનું પણ ધ્યાન રાખવામાં આવશે, જે અંતર્ગત બીજા ધોરણ સુધી બાળકોને કોઈ હોમવર્ક આપવામાં આવશે નહીં. કારણ કે પહેલા અને બીજા ધોરણના વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ખૂબ જ નાના હોય છે અને તેમને બેસવાની આદત હોતી નથી.
• ધોરણ III, IV અને V ના બાળકોને દર અઠવાડિયે માત્ર 2 કલાક હોમવર્ક આપવામાં આવશે, ધોરણ 6 થી 8 ના બાળકોને દરરોજ 1 કલાક હોમવર્ક આપવામાં આવશે અને ધોરણ 9 થી 12 ના બાળકોને દરરોજ 2 કલાક હોમવર્ક આપવામાં આવશે.

નવી શિક્ષણનીતિની વિશેષતાઓ

• માનવ સંસાધન પ્રબંધન મંત્રાલય હવે શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય તરીકે ઓળખાશે.
• National Education Policy હેઠળ શિક્ષણનું સાર્વત્રિકકરણ કરવામાં આવશે, જેમાં તબીબી અને કાયદાના અભ્યાસનો સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો નથી.
• અગાઉ 10 અને 12ની પેટર્ન અનુસરવામાં આવતી હતી, પરંતુ હવે નવી રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ 5+3+3+4ની પેટર્નને અનુસરવામાં આવશે, જેથી 12 વર્ષનું શાળાકીય શિક્ષણ અને 3 વર્ષનું મફત શાળા શિક્ષણ હશે. .
• વોકેશનલ ટેસ્ટીંગ ઇન્ટર્નશીપ ધોરણ 6 થી શરૂ કરવામાં આવશે.
• પાંચમા ધોરણ સુધીનું શિક્ષણ માતૃભાષા અથવા પ્રાદેશિક ભાષામાં આપવામાં આવશે.
• પહેલા સાયન્સ કોમર્સ અને આર્ટસ સ્ટ્રીમ થતું હતું પરંતુ હવે એવું નહીં હોય એસડીએમ વિદ્યાર્થીઓ તેમની ઈચ્છા મુજબ કોઈપણ વિષય પસંદ કરી શકશે વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ભૌતિક વિજ્ઞાન કે આર્ટસના કોઈપણ વિષય સાથે એકાઉન્ટ અભ્યાસ કરી શકશે.
• વિદ્યાર્થીઓને ધોરણ 6 થી કોડિંગ શીખવવામાં આવશે.
• તમામ શાળાઓને ડિજિટલ ઈક્વિટી બનાવવામાં આવશે.
• આ તમામ સંપર્કોનો પ્રાદેશિક ભાષામાં અનુવાદ કરવામાં આવશે.

• આ પોલિસીમાં ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ માટે યોગ્ય પ્રમાણપત્ર સાથે વિસ્તરણ અને વૃદ્ધિ બિંદુઓ હશે.
• અંડરગ્રેજ્યુએટ અભ્યાસક્રમો યોગ્ય પ્રમાણપત્ર સાથે બહુવિધ એક્ઝિટ વિકલ્પો સાથે 3 અથવા 4 વર્ષના સમયગાળાના હોઈ શકે છે જેમ કે, જો વિદ્યાર્થીએ એક વર્ષનો અંડરગ્રેજ્યુએટ અભ્યાસક્રમનો અભ્યાસ કર્યો હોય તો તેને પ્રમાણપત્ર આપવામાં આવશે, 2 વર્ષ પછી એડવાન્સ્ડ ડિપ્લોમા જશે,
• 3 વર્ષ પછી તેમને ડિગ્રી આપવામાં આવશે, અને 4 વર્ષ પછી તેમને સંશોધન સાથે સ્નાતકની ડિગ્રી આપવામાં આવશે.
• એકેડેમીની બેંક ઓફ ક્રેડિટ્સની રચના કરવામાં આવશે. જેથી વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દ્વારા અથવા વિવિધ ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ સંસ્થાઓ દ્વારા કમાયેલી ડિજિટલ એકેડેમી ક્રેડિટ્સ સંગ્રહિત અને ટ્રાન્સફર કરવામાં આવશે અને અંતિમ ડિગ્રીમાં ગણાશે.
• ભણતર પર ભાર મૂકવાથી પાઠ્ય પુસ્તકો પરની નિર્ભરતા ઘટશે અને નવી રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિનો ઉદ્દેશ્ય શું છે.
• નેશનલ ટેસ્ટિંગ એજન્સી ઉચ્ચ શૈક્ષણિક સંસ્થાઓમાં પ્રવેશ માટે કોમન એન્ટ્રન્સ ટેસ્ટ ઓફર કરશે.
• 2030 સુધીમાં, દરેક જિલ્લામાં ઓછામાં ઓછી એક મોટી બહુ-શિસ્ત ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ સંસ્થા બનાવવામાં આવશે.
• 2040 સુધીમાં તમામ ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ સંસ્થાઓને મલ્ટિડિસિપ્લિનરી ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણ સંસ્થાઓ બનાવવામાં આવશે.

National Education Policy ના લાભો

• રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિના અમલ માટે જીડીપીના 6% ખર્ચ કરવામાં આવશે.
• સંસ્કૃત અને ભારતની અન્ય પ્રાચીન ભાષાઓનો અભ્યાસ કરવાનો વિકલ્પ પણ હશે, વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ઇચ્છે તો અન્ય ભાષાઓનો અભ્યાસ કરી શકે છે.
• બોર્ડની પરીક્ષાઓમાં પણ ફેરફાર કરવામાં આવશે, એવું બની શકે છે કે વિદ્યાર્થીઓ પર બોજ ઘટાડવા માટે બોર્ડની પરીક્ષા વર્ષમાં બે વખત લેવામાં આવે.
• અભ્યાસને સરળ બનાવવા માટે આર્ટિફિશિયલ ઈન્ટેલિજન્સ સોફ્ટવેરનો ઉપયોગ કરવામાં આવશે.
• ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણમાંથી એમફીલની ડિગ્રી નાબૂદ કરવામાં આવી રહી છે.
• મેન સિવિલિસમાં વધારાની પરિપત્ર પ્રવૃત્તિઓ મૂકવામાં આવશે.
• વિદ્યાર્થીઓને ચાઈનીઝ ભાષા શીખવવામાં આવશે જેનો નિર્ણય રાજ્યો પોતાના સ્તરે કરશે.
• નેશનલ કાઉન્સિલ ઓફ એજ્યુકેશનલ રિસર્ચ એન્ડ ટ્રેનિંગ દ્વારા શાળા શિક્ષણ માટે રાષ્ટ્રીય અભ્યાસક્રમ ફ્રેમવર્ક તૈયાર કરવામાં આવશે.
• આ નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિનો અમલ કરવા માટે ઘણી સંસ્થાઓની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવશે જેથી કરીને નીતિ સરળતાથી ચાલી શકે.
• નવી નેશનલ એજ્યુકેશન પોલિસી હેઠળ બાળકોના અભ્યાસની સાથે સાથે તેમની આવડત પર પણ ખાસ ધ્યાન આપવામાં આવશે.
• નવી નેશનલ એજ્યુકેશન પોલીસી હેઠળ બાળકોના શિક્ષણની સાથે સાથે તેમના કૌશલ્ય પર વિશેષ ધ્યાન આપવામાં આવશે.
• નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ હેઠળ, જો કોઈ વિદ્યાર્થી અધવચ્ચે અભ્યાસક્રમ છોડીને બીજા અભ્યાસક્રમમાં પ્રવેશ લેવા માંગતો હોય, તો તે ચોક્કસ સમયગાળા માટે પ્રથમ અભ્યાસક્રમમાંથી વિરામ લઈ બીજા અભ્યાસક્રમમાં જોડાઈ શકે છે.

MyNEP2020 પ્લેટફોર્મ પર નોંધણી કરવાની પ્રક્રિયા

• સૌ પ્રથમ તમારે MYNEP2023 પ્લેટફોર્મની સત્તાવાર વેબસાઇટની મુલાકાત લેવી પડશે.
• તે પછી તેનું હોમ પેજ તમારી સામે ખુલશે.

• આ હોમ પેજ પર તમારે રજીસ્ટ્રેશનના વિકલ્પ પર ક્લિક કરવાનું રહેશે.
• આ પછી તમારી સામે એક નવું પેજ ખુલશે જેમાં તમારે નીચેની માહિતી દાખલ કરવાની રહેશે.
• પિતાનું નામ
• છેલ્લું નામ
• મોબાઇલ નંબર
• ઈ મેઈલ આઈડી
• હવે તમારે રજિસ્ટર વિકલ્પ પર ક્લિક કરવાનું રહેશે.
• આ રીતે તમે MYNEP2023 પ્લેટફોર્મ પર નોંધણી કરાવી શકો છો.

MYNEP2023 પ્લેટફોર્મ પર લૉગિન કરવાની પ્રક્રિયા

• આ પછી, તેનું હોમપેજ તમારી સામે ખુલશે.
• હોમ પેજ પર તમે લોગીનનો વિકલ્પ જોશો
• આ પછી, તમારી સામે એક નવું પેજ ખુલશે, જેમાં તમારે તમારું નામ, યુઝરનેમ, પાસવર્ડ અને કેપ્ચા કોડ નાખવાનો રહેશે.
• હવે તમારે લોગિન તક પર ક્લિક કરવું પડશે.
• આ રીતે તમે MYNEP2023 પ્લેટફોર્મ પર લોગીન કરી શકો છો.

Ans. ભારતની નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ ખાસ કરીને ચાર તબક્કામાં કામ કરશે, જેમાં 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 ની પેટર્નનો ઉપયોગ કરીને વિદ્યાર્થીઓના શિક્ષણને આગળ વધારવામાં આવશે. આ નવી પેટર્ન હેઠળ 12 વર્ષનો શાળાકીય અભ્યાસ અને 3 વર્ષનો શાળાકીય અભ્યાસ સામેલ છે. નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ 2022 સરકારી અને ખાનગી શાળા સંસ્થાઓ બંને દ્વારા અનુસરવામાં આવશે.

Ans. નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિનો ડ્રાફ્ટ ઈસરોના ભૂતપૂર્વ વડા ડૉ. કે. કસ્તુરીરંગનની અધ્યક્ષતામાં તૈયાર કરવામાં આવ્યો છે. રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ (NEP) 2020 ને વડા પ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીની અધ્યક્ષતામાં કેન્દ્રીય કેબિનેટ દ્વારા મંજૂર કર્યા પછી અમલમાં મૂકવામાં આવી છે.

Ans. જૂન 2021 થી પ્રગતિ પર નજર રાખવા માટે શિક્ષણ મંત્રાલય દ્વારા રાષ્ટ્રીય શિક્ષણ નીતિ અમલીકરણ પ્રક્રિયા શરૂ કરવામાં આવશે. સૂત્રોના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર, એવું કહેવામાં આવ્યું છે કે કોલેજ અને યુનિવર્સિટી સ્તરે નીતિગત ફેરફારો લાગુ કરવા પર ભાર મૂકવામાં આવી રહ્યો છે. મંત્રાલયે 181 કાર્યોની ઓળખ કરી છે જે નવી શિક્ષણ નીતિ દ્વારા પૂર્ણ થશે.

Gujarati Essay on " My School ", " મારી શાળા વિશે નિબંધ ગુજરાતી " for Students

પ્રસ્તાવના:  અમારી વિદ્યાલયનું નામ શારદા સરસ્વતી મંદિર છે. આ વિદ્યાલય અમદાવાદમાં છે. આ વિદ્યાલયને સ્થાપિત થયે લગભગ પચાસ વર્ષ થઈ ગયા છે. એને પ્રાથમિક વિદ્યાલયથી શરૂ કરવામાં આવી હતી. વિદ્યાર્થીઓની વધતી સંખ્યાને કારણે એને હવે હાઈસ્કૂલ બનાવી દેવામાં આવી છે. આ વિદ્યાલયનાં ભણતર તેમજ અનુશાસન-વ્યવસ્થા અતિ ઉત્તમ છે. આસપાસના ગ્રામીણ ક્ષેત્રથી પણ વિદ્યાર્થી એમાં ભણવા આવે છે. અહીંયા રહેવાવાળા સરકારી અધિકારીઓ તેમજ કર્મચારીઓના બાળકો પણ આ જ વિદ્યાલયમાં ભણે છે.

વિદ્યાલયમાં પરિસર:  અમારું વિદ્યાલય-ભવન ખૂબ મોટું છે. આ ભવનમાં પચ્ચીસ ઓરડા છે. અહીંયા વિદ્યાર્થીઓની સંખ્યા વધતી જઈ રહી છે. આથી અહીંયા ઓરડાઓનું નિર્માણ પ્રતિવર્ષ કરવામાં આવે છે. બધા ઓરડાઓમાં પંખાઓ તેમજ રોશનીની યોગ્ય વ્યવસ્થા છે.

વિદ્યાલયનું ખૂબ જ મોટું પુસ્તકાલય છે. વિદ્યાર્થીઓના વિષયોથી સંબંધિત પુસ્તકોની સાથે જ્ઞાન-વિજ્ઞાનની પુસ્તકો પણ અહીંયા છે. અનેક પત્ર-પત્રિકાઓ અહીંયા બરાબર આવતી રહે છે. વિદ્યાલયની વચ્ચે મોટો તેમજ સુંદર બગીચો છે.

વિદ્યાલયમાં ખેલનું મોટું મેદાન છે. અહીંયા સમય-સમય પર હૉકી, ફુટબૉલ, વૉલીબૉલ, ક્રિકેટ અને બેડમિંટન વગેરે ખેલ થાય છે.

વિદ્યાલય પરિવાર:  વિદ્યાલયના પ્રધાનાચાર્ય શ્રી રામચંદ્ર શાસ્ત્રી છે. તેઓ યોગ્ય, કુશળ તેમજ અનુશાસનપ્રિય વ્યક્તિ છે. વિદ્યાલયમાં લગભગ પચાસ શિક્ષક છે. પ્રત્યેક વિષયના અધ્યાપક પોતાના વિષયમાં નિપુણ અને કુશળ છે. વિદ્યાલયમાં લગભગ ત્રણ હજાર વિદ્યાર્થી ભણે છે.

ઉપસંહાર:  હકીકતમાં અમને અમારી વિદ્યાલય પર ગર્વ છે. અહીંયાની પ્રત્યેક વસ્તુથી અમને અત્યંત સ્નેહ છે. વિદ્યાલયના બધા વિદ્યાર્થી આપસમાં નેહભાવ રાખે છે. આ વિદ્યાલયમાં આવીને વિદ્યાધ્યયન કરીને જ્યાં અમારી બુદ્ધિનો વિકાસ થાય છે, ત્યાં જ અમારું શરીર પણ પુષ્ટ તેમજ સ્વસ્થ થાય છે.

POS-HOML: POS Tagging Technique For Gujarati Language Using Hybrid Optimal And Machine Learning Approaches

The rand-36 health survey 1.0: translation, reliability, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the gujarati version.

Background: The Short Form 36 Item Survey is the most typically used instrument for assessing health-related quality of life.1 Two identical versions of the initial instrument are currently available: the general public domain, license-free RAND-36, and also the commercial SF 36.2 RAND 36 don't seem to be available within the Gujarati language. The aim of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the RAND 36 into the Gujarati language and measure its reliability and validity. Methods: According to the guidelines by the International Quality of Life Assessment project, a test of item-scale correlation, a sequence of translation, and validation were implemented for the translation of the Gujarati version of the RAND-36. Following pilot testing, the English and the Gujarati versions of the RAND-36 were administered to a random sample of 120 apparently healthy individuals to test validity and 96 respondents completed the Gujarati RAND-36 again after two weeks to test reliability. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, multi-trait scaling analysis, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis, and Intra-Class Correlation (ICC) at p < 0.05 Results: The median Cronbach's alphas for the Gujarati RAND-36 in multiple subgroups exceeded 0.70 for every scale except one. Two of the English RAND-36 scales had median Cronbach's alphas that exceeded 0.70; the rest exceeded 0.50. Test-retest correlations were found statistically significant for both versions. Product-moment correlations to test the equivalence of the corresponding Gujarati and English versions of the RAND-36 ranged from 0.73 to 0.92. The Gujarati version of the RAND-36 has high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.809) and test-retest reliability (Intra-class correlation coefficient=0.746, 95% CI: 0.58, 0.94). Conclusions: The Gujarati version of the RAND-36 performed well and the findings suggest that it is a reliable and valid measure of health-related quality of life among the general Gujarati population. Parts-of-Speech Tagger for Gujarati Language using Long-short-Term-Memory

With the large quantity of information offered on-line, it's equally essential to retrieve correct information for a user query. A large amount of data is available in digital form in multiple languages. The various approaches want to increase the effectiveness of on-line information retrieval but the standard approach tries to retrieve information for a user query is to go looking at the documents within the corpus as a word by word for the given query. This approach is incredibly time intensive and it's going to miss several connected documents that are equally important. So, to avoid these issues, stemming has been extensively utilized in numerous Information Retrieval Systems (IRS) to extend the retrieval accuracy of all languages. These papers go through the problem of stemming with Web Page Categorization on Gujarati language which basically derived the stem words using GUJSTER algorithms [1]. The GUJSTER algorithm is based on morphological rules which is used to derived root or stem word from inflected words of the same class. In particular, we consider the influence of extracted a stem or root word, to check the integrity of the web page classification using supervised machine learning algorithms. This research work is intended to focus on the analysis of Web Page Categorization (WPC) of Gujarati language and concentrate on a research problem to do verify the influence of a stemming algorithm in a WPC application for the Gujarati language with improved accuracy between from 63% to 98% through Machine Learning supervised models with standard ratio 80% as training and 20% as testing.

Text Classification of Gujarati Newspaper Headlines

Text classification is an extremely important area of Natural Language Processing (NLP). This paper studies various methods for embedding and classification in the Gujarati language. The dataset comprises of Gujarati News Headlines classified into various categories. Different embedding methods for Gujarati language and various classifiers are used to classify the headlines into given categories. Gujarati is a low resource language. This language is not commonly worked upon. This paper deals with one of the most important NLP tasks - classification and along with it, an idea about various embedding techniques for Gujarati language can be obtained since they help in feature extraction for the process of classification. This paper first performs embedding to get a valid representation of the textual data and then uses already existing robust classifiers to perform classification over the embedded data. Additionally, the paper provides an insight into how various NLP tasks can be performed over a low resource language like Gujarati. Finally, the research paper carries out a comparative analysis between the performances of various existing methods of embedding and classification to get an idea of which combination gives a better outcome.

Using Term Frequency - Inverse Document Frequency to find the Relevance of Words in Gujarati Language

Improving semantic coherence of gujarati text topic model using inflectional forms reduction and single-letter words removal.

A topic model is one of the best stochastic models for summarizing an extensive collection of text. It has accomplished an inordinate achievement in text analysis as well as text summarization. It can be employed to the set of documents that are represented as a bag-of-words, without considering grammar and order of the words. We modeled the topics for Gujarati news articles corpus. As the Gujarati language has a diverse morphological structure and inflectionally rich, Gujarati text processing finds more complexity. The size of the vocabulary plays an important role in the inference process and quality of topics. As the vocabulary size increases, the inference process becomes slower and topic semantic coherence decreases. If the vocabulary size is diminished, then the topic inference process can be accelerated. It may also improve the quality of topics. In this work, the list of suffixes has been prepared that encounters too frequently with words in Gujarati text. The inflectional forms have been reduced to the root words concerning the suffixes in the list. Moreover, Gujarati single-letter words have been eliminated for faster inference and better quality of topics. Experimentally, it has been proved that if inflectional forms are reduced to their root words, then vocabulary length is shrunk to a significant extent. It also caused the topic formation process quicker. Moreover, the inflectional forms reduction and single-letter word removal enhanced the interpretability of topics. The interpretability of topics has been assessed on semantic coherence, word length, and topic size. The experimental results showed improvements in the topical semantic coherence score. Also, the topic size grew notably as the number of tokens assigned to the topics increased.

The Thirty-Eighth Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS 2024) is an interdisciplinary conference that brings together researchers in machine learning, neuroscience, statistics, optimization, computer vision, natural language processing, life sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and other adjacent fields. We invite submissions presenting new and original research on topics including but not limited to the following:

• Applications (e.g., vision, language, speech and audio, Creative AI)
• Deep learning (e.g., architectures, generative models, optimization for deep networks, foundation models, LLMs)
• Evaluation (e.g., methodology, meta studies, replicability and validity, human-in-the-loop)

Machine learning is a rapidly evolving field, and so we welcome interdisciplinary submissions that do not fit neatly into existing categories.

Authors are asked to confirm that their submissions accord with the NeurIPS code of conduct .

Formatting instructions:   All submissions must be in PDF format, and in a single PDF file include, in this order:

• The submitted paper
• Technical appendices that support the paper with additional proofs, derivations, or results 
• The NeurIPS paper checklist  

Other supplementary materials such as data and code can be uploaded as a ZIP file

The main text of a submitted paper is limited to nine content pages , including all figures and tables. Additional pages containing references don’t count as content pages. If your submission is accepted, you will be allowed an additional content page for the camera-ready version.

The main text and references may be followed by technical appendices, for which there is no page limit.

The maximum file size for a full submission, which includes technical appendices, is 50MB.

Authors are encouraged to submit a separate ZIP file that contains further supplementary material like data or source code, when applicable.

You must format your submission using the NeurIPS 2024 LaTeX style file which includes a “preprint” option for non-anonymous preprints posted online. Submissions that violate the NeurIPS style (e.g., by decreasing margins or font sizes) or page limits may be rejected without further review. Papers may be rejected without consideration of their merits if they fail to meet the submission requirements, as described in this document. 

Paper checklist: In order to improve the rigor and transparency of research submitted to and published at NeurIPS, authors are required to complete a paper checklist . The paper checklist is intended to help authors reflect on a wide variety of issues relating to responsible machine learning research, including reproducibility, transparency, research ethics, and societal impact. The checklist forms part of the paper submission, but does not count towards the page limit.

Supplementary material: While all technical appendices should be included as part of the main paper submission PDF, authors may submit up to 100MB of supplementary material, such as data, or source code in a ZIP format. Supplementary material should be material created by the authors that directly supports the submission content. Like submissions, supplementary material must be anonymized. Looking at supplementary material is at the discretion of the reviewers.

We encourage authors to upload their code and data as part of their supplementary material in order to help reviewers assess the quality of the work. Check the policy as well as code submission guidelines and templates for further details.

Use of Large Language Models (LLMs): We welcome authors to use any tool that is suitable for preparing high-quality papers and research. However, we ask authors to keep in mind two important criteria. First, we expect papers to fully describe their methodology, and any tool that is important to that methodology, including the use of LLMs, should be described also. For example, authors should mention tools (including LLMs) that were used for data processing or filtering, visualization, facilitating or running experiments, and proving theorems. It may also be advisable to describe the use of LLMs in implementing the method (if this corresponds to an important, original, or non-standard component of the approach). Second, authors are responsible for the entire content of the paper, including all text and figures, so while authors are welcome to use any tool they wish for writing the paper, they must ensure that all text is correct and original.

Double-blind reviewing:   All submissions must be anonymized and may not contain any identifying information that may violate the double-blind reviewing policy.  This policy applies to any supplementary or linked material as well, including code.  If you are including links to any external material, it is your responsibility to guarantee anonymous browsing.  Please do not include acknowledgements at submission time. If you need to cite one of your own papers, you should do so with adequate anonymization to preserve double-blind reviewing.  For instance, write “In the previous work of Smith et al. [1]…” rather than “In our previous work [1]...”). If you need to cite one of your own papers that is in submission to NeurIPS and not available as a non-anonymous preprint, then include a copy of the cited anonymized submission in the supplementary material and write “Anonymous et al. [1] concurrently show...”). Any papers found to be violating this policy will be rejected.

OpenReview: We are using OpenReview to manage submissions. The reviews and author responses will not be public initially (but may be made public later, see below). As in previous years, submissions under review will be visible only to their assigned program committee. We will not be soliciting comments from the general public during the reviewing process. Anyone who plans to submit a paper as an author or a co-author will need to create (or update) their OpenReview profile by the full paper submission deadline. Your OpenReview profile can be edited by logging in and clicking on your name in https://openreview.net/ . This takes you to a URL "https://openreview.net/profile?id=~[Firstname]_[Lastname][n]" where the last part is your profile name, e.g., ~Wei_Zhang1. Abstract Submission: There is a mandatory abstract submission deadline on May 15, 2024, six days before full paper submissions are due. While it will be possible to edit the title and abstract until the full paper submission deadline, submissions with “placeholder” abstracts that are rewritten for the full submission risk being removed without consideration. This includes titles and abstracts that either provide little or no semantic information (e.g., "We provide a new semi-supervised learning method.") or describe a substantively different claimed contribution.  The author list cannot be changed after the abstract deadline. After that, authors may be reordered, but any additions or removals must be justified in writing and approved on a case-by-case basis by the program chairs only in exceptional circumstances. 

Ethics review: Reviewers and ACs may flag submissions for ethics review . Flagged submissions will be sent to an ethics review committee for comments. Comments from ethics reviewers will be considered by the primary reviewers and AC as part of their deliberation. They will also be visible to authors, who will have an opportunity to respond.  Ethics reviewers do not have the authority to reject papers, but in extreme cases papers may be rejected by the program chairs on ethical grounds, regardless of scientific quality or contribution.  

Preprints: The existence of non-anonymous preprints (on arXiv or other online repositories, personal websites, social media) will not result in rejection. If you choose to use the NeurIPS style for the preprint version, you must use the “preprint” option rather than the “final” option. Reviewers will be instructed not to actively look for such preprints, but encountering them will not constitute a conflict of interest. Authors may submit anonymized work to NeurIPS that is already available as a preprint (e.g., on arXiv) without citing it. Note that public versions of the submission should not say "Under review at NeurIPS" or similar.

Dual submissions: Submissions that are substantially similar to papers that the authors have previously published or submitted in parallel to other peer-reviewed venues with proceedings or journals may not be submitted to NeurIPS. Papers previously presented at workshops are permitted, so long as they did not appear in a conference proceedings (e.g., CVPRW proceedings), a journal or a book.  NeurIPS coordinates with other conferences to identify dual submissions.  The NeurIPS policy on dual submissions applies for the entire duration of the reviewing process.  Slicing contributions too thinly is discouraged.  The reviewing process will treat any other submission by an overlapping set of authors as prior work. If publishing one would render the other too incremental, both may be rejected.

Anti-collusion: NeurIPS does not tolerate any collusion whereby authors secretly cooperate with reviewers, ACs or SACs to obtain favorable reviews. 

Author responses:   Authors will have one week to view and respond to initial reviews. Author responses may not contain any identifying information that may violate the double-blind reviewing policy. Authors may not submit revisions of their paper or supplemental material, but may post their responses as a discussion in OpenReview. This is to reduce the burden on authors to have to revise their paper in a rush during the short rebuttal period.

After the initial response period, authors will be able to respond to any further reviewer/AC questions and comments by posting on the submission’s forum page. The program chairs reserve the right to solicit additional reviews after the initial author response period.  These reviews will become visible to the authors as they are added to OpenReview, and authors will have a chance to respond to them.

After the notification deadline, accepted and opted-in rejected papers will be made public and open for non-anonymous public commenting. Their anonymous reviews, meta-reviews, author responses and reviewer responses will also be made public. Authors of rejected papers will have two weeks after the notification deadline to opt in to make their deanonymized rejected papers public in OpenReview.  These papers are not counted as NeurIPS publications and will be shown as rejected in OpenReview.

Publication of accepted submissions:   Reviews, meta-reviews, and any discussion with the authors will be made public for accepted papers (but reviewer, area chair, and senior area chair identities will remain anonymous). Camera-ready papers will be due in advance of the conference. All camera-ready papers must include a funding disclosure . We strongly encourage accompanying code and data to be submitted with accepted papers when appropriate, as per the code submission policy . Authors will be allowed to make minor changes for a short period of time after the conference.

Contemporaneous Work: For the purpose of the reviewing process, papers that appeared online within two months of a submission will generally be considered "contemporaneous" in the sense that the submission will not be rejected on the basis of the comparison to contemporaneous work. Authors are still expected to cite and discuss contemporaneous work and perform empirical comparisons to the degree feasible. Any paper that influenced the submission is considered prior work and must be cited and discussed as such. Submissions that are very similar to contemporaneous work will undergo additional scrutiny to prevent cases of plagiarism and missing credit to prior work.

Plagiarism is prohibited by the NeurIPS Code of Conduct .

Other Tracks: Similarly to earlier years, we will host multiple tracks, such as datasets, competitions, tutorials as well as workshops, in addition to the main track for which this call for papers is intended. See the conference homepage for updates and calls for participation in these tracks. 

Experiments: As in past years, the program chairs will be measuring the quality and effectiveness of the review process via randomized controlled experiments. All experiments are independently reviewed and approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB).

Financial Aid: Each paper may designate up to one (1) NeurIPS.cc account email address of a corresponding student author who confirms that they would need the support to attend the conference, and agrees to volunteer if they get selected. To be considered for Financial the student will also need to fill out the Financial Aid application when it becomes available.

NCET 2024: Applications Invited For Admission To 4-Year Teacher Education Programme

NCET 2024: The examination will be held on June 12.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has invited applications for the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) 2024 for admission to the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in selected central/state universities/institutions, including IITs, NITs, RIEs, and government colleges for the academic session 2024-25.

Interested and eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website NTA.ac.in. The deadline for application submission is April 30. The application correction window will remain open from May 2 to May 5. The examination city slips will be released in the last week of May.

The admit cards will be available for download three days before the examination. The examination will be held on June 12, 2024.

The NTA will conduct the (NCET) 2024 in 178 cities and 13 mediums across India in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The question papers will be available in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

The ITEP programme comprises two majors: one in Education with a specialisation in the school-specific stage, and the other in a chosen discipline.

NCET 2024:  Exam Structure: The examination format includes subject combinations for each paper, question types, and the mode of examination, as outlined below:

Language Papers: Candidates select any two languages from a pool of 38 options, denoted as Language 1 and Language 2.

Section 2: Domain-Specific Subjects

Candidates choose three subjects from 26 domain-specific options, aligned with the curriculum of the applicable university/universities/institution.

Section 3: General Test

Candidates must attempt this section. It includes 28 questions, of which 25 need to be answered.

Section 4: Teaching Aptitude

This section is mandatory and comprises 23 questions, with candidates required to answer 20.

Candidates are required to attempt a total of 160 questions out of 181. Each subject (language, domain-specific, teaching aptitude, and general test) offers a choice of three questions. The examination may span multiple days and shifts depending on candidate numbers and subject choices.

Get tech out of the classroom before it’s too late.

Jaime Lewis noticed that her eighth-grade son’s grades were slipping several months ago. She suspected it was because he was watching YouTube during class on his school-issued laptop, and her suspicions were validated. “I heard this from two of his teachers and confirmed with my son: Yes, he watches YouTube during class, and no, he doesn’t think he can stop. In fact, he opted out of retaking a math test he’d failed, just so he could watch YouTube,” she said.

She decided to do something about it. Lewis told me that she got together with other parents who were concerned about the unfettered use of school-sanctioned technology in San Luis Coastal Unified School District, their district in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Because they knew that it wasn’t realistic to ask for the removal of the laptops entirely, they went for what they saw as an achievable win: blocking YouTube from students’ devices. A few weeks ago, they had a meeting with the district superintendent and several other administrators, including the tech director.

To bolster their case, Lewis and her allies put together a video compilation of clips that elementary and middle school children had gotten past the district’s content filters.

Their video opens on images of nooses being fitted around the necks of the terrified women in the TV adaptation of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It ends with the notoriously violent “Singin’ in the Rain” sequence from “A Clockwork Orange.” (Several versions of this scene are available on YouTube. The one she pointed me to included “rape scene” in the title.) Their video was part of a PowerPoint presentation filled with statements from other parents and school staff members, including one from a middle school assistant principal, who said, “I don’t know how often teachers are using YouTube in their curriculum.”

That acknowledgment gets to the heart of the problem with screens in schools. I heard from many parents who said that even when they asked district leaders how much time kids were spending on their screens, they couldn’t get straight answers; no one seemed to know, and no one seemed to be keeping track.

Eric Prater, the superintendent of the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, told me that he didn’t realize how much was getting through the schools’ content filters until Lewis and her fellow parents raised concerns. “Our tech department, as I found out from the meeting, spends quite a lot of time blocking certain websites,” he said. “It’s a quite time-consuming situation that I personally was not aware of.” He added that he’s grateful this was brought to his attention.

I don’t think educators are the bad guys here. Neither does Lewis. In general, educators want the best for students. The bad guys, as I see it, are tech companies.

One way or another, we’ve allowed Big Tech’s tentacles into absolutely every aspect of our children’s education, with very little oversight and no real proof that their devices or programs improve educational outcomes. Last year Collin Binkley at The Associated Press analyzed public records and found that “many of the largest school systems spent tens of millions of dollars in pandemic money on software and services from tech companies, including licenses for apps, games and tutoring websites.” However, he continued, schools “have little or no evidence the programs helped students.”

It’s not just waste, very likely, of taxpayer money that’s at issue. After reading many of the over 900 responses from parents and educators to my questionnaire about tech in schools and from the many conversations I had over the past few weeks with readers, I’m convinced that the downsides of tech in schools far outweigh the benefits.

Though tech’s incursion into America’s public schools — particularly our overreliance on devices — hyperaccelerated in 2020, it started well before the Covid-19 pandemic. Google, which provides the operating system for lower-cost Chromebooks and is owned by the same parent company as YouTube, is a big player in the school laptop space, though I also heard from many parents and teachers whose schools supply students with other types and brands of devices.

As my newsroom colleague Natasha Singer reported in 2017 (by which point “half the nation’s primary- and secondary-school students” were, according to Google, using its education apps), “Google makes $30 per device by selling management services for the millions of Chromebooks that ship to schools. But by habituating students to its offerings at a young age, Google obtains something much more valuable”: potential lifetime customers.

The issue goes beyond access to age-inappropriate clips or general distraction during school hours. Several parents related stories of even kindergartners reading almost exclusively on iPads because their school districts had phased out hard-copy books and writing materials after shifting to digital-only curriculums. There’s evidence that this is harmful: A 2019 analysis of the literature concluded that “readers may be more efficient and aware of their performance when reading from paper compared to screens.”

“It seems to be a constant battle between fighting for the students’ active attention (because their brains are now hard-wired for the instant gratification of TikTok and YouTube videos) and making sure they aren’t going to sites outside of the dozens they should be,” Nicole Post, who teaches at a public elementary school in Missouri, wrote to me. “It took months for students to listen to me tell a story or engage in a read-aloud. I’m distressed at the level of technology we’ve socialized them to believe is normal. I would give anything for a math or social studies textbook.”

I’ve heard about kids disregarding teachers who tried to limit tech use, fine motor skills atrophying because students rarely used pencils and children whose learning was ultimately stymied by the tech that initially helped them — for example, students learning English as a second language becoming too reliant on translation apps rather than becoming fluent.

Some teachers said they have programs that block certain sites and games, but those programs can be cumbersome. Some said they have software, like GoGuardian, that allows them to see the screens of all the students in their classes at once. But classroom time is zero sum: Teachers are either teaching or acting like prison wardens; they can’t do both at the same time.

Resources are finite. Software costs money . Replacing defunct or outdated laptops costs money . When it comes to I.T., many schools are understaffed . More of the money being spent on tech and the maintenance and training around the use of that tech could be spent on other things, like actual books. And badly monitored and used tech has the most potential for harm.

I’ve considered the counterarguments: Kids who’d be distracted by tech would find something else to distract them; K-12 students need to gain familiarity with tech to instill some vague work force readiness.

But on the first point, I think other forms of distraction — like talking to friends, doodling and daydreaming — are better than playing video games or watching YouTube because they at least involve children engaging with other children or their own minds. And there’s research that suggests laptops are uniquely distracting . One 2013 study found that even being next to a student who is multitasking on a computer can hurt a student’s test scores.

On the second point, you can have designated classes to teach children how to keyboard, code or use software that don’t require them to have laptops in their hands throughout the school day. And considering that various tech companies are developing artificial intelligence that, we’re meant to understand, will upend work as we know it , whatever tech skills we’re currently teaching will probably be obsolete by the time students enter the work force anyway. By then, it’ll be too late to claw back the brain space of our nation’s children that we’ve already ceded. And for what? So today’s grade schoolers can be really, really good at making PowerPoint presentations like the ones they might one day make as white-collar adults?

That’s the part that I can’t shake: We’ve let tech companies and their products set the terms of the argument about what education should be, and too many people, myself included, didn’t initially realize it. Companies never had to prove that devices or software, broadly speaking, helped students learn before those devices had wormed their way into America’s public schools. And now the onus is on parents to marshal arguments about the detriments of tech in schools.

Holly Coleman, a parent of two who lives in Kansas and is a substitute teacher in her district, describes what students are losing:

They can type quickly but struggle to write legibly. They can find info about any topic on the internet but can’t discuss that topic using recall, creativity or critical thinking. They can make a beautiful PowerPoint or Keynote in 20 minutes but can’t write a three-page paper or hand-make a poster board. Their textbooks are all online, which is great for the seams on their backpack, but tangible pages under your fingers literally connect you to the material you’re reading and learning. These kids do not know how to move through their day without a device in their hand and under their fingertips. They never even get the chance to disconnect from their tech and reconnect with one another through eye contact and conversation.

Jonathan Haidt’s new book, “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness,” prescribes phone-free schools as a way to remedy some of the challenges facing America’s children. I agree that there’s no place for smartphones on a K-12 campus. But if you take away the phones and the kids still have near-constant internet connectivity on devices they have with them in every class, the problem won’t go away.

When Covid hit and screens became the only way for millions of kids to “attend” school, not having a personal device became an equity issue. But we’re getting to a point where the opposite may be true. According to the responses to my questionnaire, during the remote-school era, private schools seemed to rely far less on screens than public schools, and many educators said that they deliberately chose lower-tech school environments for their own children — much the same way that some tech workers intentionally send their kids to screen-free schools.

We need to reframe the entire conversation around tech in schools because it’s far from clear that we’re getting the results we want as a society and because parents are in a defensive crouch, afraid to appear anti-progress or unwilling to prepare the next generation for the future. “I feel like a baby boomer attacking like this,” said Lewis.

But the drawbacks of constant screen time in schools go beyond data privacy, job security and whether a specific app increases math performance by a standard deviation. As Lewis put it, using tech in the classroom makes students “so passive, and it requires so little agency and initiative.” She added, “I’m very concerned about the species’ ability to survive and the ability to think critically and the importance of critical thinking outside of getting a job.”

If we don’t hit pause now and try to roll back some of the excesses, we’ll be doing our children — and society — a profound disservice.

The good news is that sometimes when the stakes become clear, educators respond: In May, Dr. Prater said, “we’re going to remove access to YouTube from our district devices for students.” He added that teachers will still be able to get access to YouTube if they want to show instructional videos. The district is also rethinking its phone policy to cut down on personal device use in the classroom. “For me,” he said, “it’s all about how do you find the common-sense approach, going forward, and match that up with good old-fashioned hands-on learning?” He knows technology can cause “a great deal of harm if we’re not careful.”
