IGNOU PhD English Admission 2024: IGNOU has closed the registration window for the English program in the January 2024 academic session. The application form submission date was 03 January 2024 . The Applicants need to visit the official portal of the university @ignouphdjuly23.samarth.edu.in . The registration fee is INR 1000 / which is a non-refundable amount and INR 16,800 / is the full academic fee for the IGNOU PhD in English program. The personal interview round is going on now and IGNOU PhD English Interview 2024 closing last date is 10 April 2024*. 

Those applicants who have a master’s degree with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from any UGC-approved university are eligible to apply for IGNOU Ph.D. English admission. It is scheduled that the IGNOU PhD admission examination for the year 2024 will be conducted in 30 cities across the country on the 8th of January 2024 using a CBT (Computer Based Test). IGNOU PhD English Entrance Exam

Registration for IGNOU PhD English Entrance Exam 2024 will be open for the January 2024 academic session . The application mode is online, and students must prepare for the entrance exam. The entrance exam date for IGNOU PhD English is 8 January 2024 . The NTA will be the conducting body for the entrance exam for PhD English. The university conducts the IGNOU PhD Entrance Examination once a year to start the process of IGNOU PhD Admission for the year 2024. The admission to the Phd programs is strictly based on a performance achieved in the PhD Entrance Examination and Interview. Thereafter, IGNOU will release the final list of shortlisted candidates who are selected to get admission in selected disciplines.

Therefore, the candidates who want to take admission to IGNOU PhD programs in any of the available disciplines should get to know about the eligibility, selection process, and exam structure.

IGNOU PhD 2024 Highlights

It is to inform all candidates that both category students have to attend the classes at the allotted centre to accomplish their course work given by the university. The student must have 80% attendance in the course work to be eligible for the term-end examination.

How to Apply for IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2024?

• Students can easily apply for Ph.D. Entrance Examination through online mode. Interested candidates have to click on the given application link and then click on the “Online Application Form” link for Ph.D. July 2023. After the click, you will go to the registration section where you have to click on New Registration to begin your registration procedure.
• Candidates have to fill all sections including the Registration and Application Form without any spelling mistakes
• Once you fill in the above details, it is mandatory to upload your recent passport-size scanned photograph and digital signature. A scanned photograph must be less than 200 KB in size and Signature must be less than 30 KB. After uploading, you have to re-verify your application with all the details that you provided to the university before submitting it. You can also get a print of your Application form before proceeding with payment.
• After checking your application, candidates have to pay their application fee by online mode. After completion of payment, you will get a payment receipt so keep it safe with you for any future reference.
• After successful payment, you will receive a notification or confirmation via SMS or through your registered email ID. If you didn’t get any confirmation then, please contact the IGNOU Ph.D. support team as fast as possible.
• Candidates have to note down their Application Number to login into the Ph.D. entrance portal to download their Admit Card and Result in the future.

It is compulsory to register yourself to fill out your application form online. Once you have paid your fees for the entrance exam will not be refundable to the candidate in any circumstances. There are no documents to needed submit while filling out an application form for Ph.D.  All original documents will have to be produced at the time of the Interview taken by the university.

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam Structure 2024

We can understand that many of the students are confused regarding the syllabus and structure of the Ph.D. Entrance Examination. General Instructions for submitting Online Application

• You need to register first, before filling of the online entrance application form.
• Click on the button  NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
• Fill in the UserName and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
• Remember, while choosing your  UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
• While choosing your  password  it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
• After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
• Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
• Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
• If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the "LOGIN" button.

Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees and Exam pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2022

•  The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time.  Appendix II of the Information Brochure  may be referred in this regard.  
• Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong  (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2022).
• Submission of application forms will be online only.  Entrance Examination is compulsory for all candidates including MPhil / NET / JRF etc., for admission to Research Degree Programmes. No exemption from appearing for the Entrance Test is permissible.
• Application Fee for  submission of online application is  Rs 1000.  
•    Application fee is  non-refundable.
•    No request for   change in category,   shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
• Applicants are advised to submit onle application only, as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
• Eligibility for appearing in the Entrance Test  is subject to the candidate fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the IGNOU Regulations  for conduct of Research Programmes which is as under: 

A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, provided he/she:

   ....... Possesses Master’s Degree  from a University recognized by UGC or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in such fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time by the University with at least  55% marks [50% marks in the case of SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy Layer), EWS and Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time. *

* Note : Applicants are requested to carefully go through the eligibility criteria as per the details mentioned at Annexure –II and make sure that they fulfill the same. If any discrepancy is found at a later stage, the University reserves all the rights to not consider such cases.

8.  In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

9.  Weightage of Entrance Test is 70% and 30% weightage is for the Interview.

10. 50% is the qualifying marks  in the Entrance Test for  Open Category.  For  SC/ST/OBC, EWS /PWD, the qualifying mark is  45% .

11. Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.

• a)   The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of MPhil / PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2022  comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject.

Criteria of selection

Ph.D. program admission at IGNOU is done by entrance exam scores. This national-level entrance exam follows the CSIR/UGC pattern. Candidates scoring a minimum of 50% on the exam will be shortlisted for interviews, with up to five times the number of available seats. To put it simply, the Ph.D. entrance exam at IGNOU is quite challenging.

Eligibility Criteria

Check the points below to know more about the eligibility criteria of the programs- - Candidates must have a postgraduate degree in the relevant field. - For general category candidates, a minimum of 55% marks in their post-graduation is required. Reserved category candidates get a 5% relaxation, which means they need 50% marks or more. - Exception - Candidates who have completed an MPhil program with coursework or have passed exams like NET (conducted by UGC/CSIR/ICAR) or equivalent are not required to take the IGNOU PhD entrance exam.

Thesis Submission

The thesis will be assessed by three External Experts nominated by the Vice Chancellor from a list of seven experts provided by the Supervisor/s through the School Board. In the case of MPhil, the dissertation will be evaluated by one external examiner nominated by the Vice Chancellor from a list of at least five experts submitted by the supervisor through the School Board. The Examiner/s' reports should be submitted using the provided format.

Course work

When your Research Project is approved, the Doctoral Committee may also require you to complete Course work that relates to the research's focus areas and research methodology. The specifics of this Course Work, how it will be evaluated, and the schedule for teaching it will be provided by the Research Programme Coordinator. Mostly, Course Work is assigned to candidates applying for admission to the MPhil program. It's also assigned to PhD candidates who haven't completed an MPhil. However, the Doctoral Committee may assign Course Work to PhD candidates who have already completed an MPhil as well.

Viva Examinations

For Ph.D. candidates, the viva-voce examination will be conducted at IGNOU. A panel will oversee this examination, consisting of an external examiner appointed by the Vice Chancellor, along with your principal supervisor who acts as the convener. The Director of the concerned department will be the panel's Chairperson. The date, venue, and thesis topic along with a brief abstract will be communicated to the Research Unit. This information will also be made widely available to encourage broader participation in the session. To successfully complete the MPhil program, you need to secure a minimum of 50% marks in each course, 50% in your dissertation work, and 50% in the viva-voce examination.

Entrance exam:.

• On the IGNOU website, a list of shortlisted candidates who will be needed to take the Entrance Exam will be posted.
• One week before the test, the admit card will be available on the IGNOU official website.
• Candidates must bring their admission card to the exam centre or they will be denied the opportunity to take the written exam.
• At the test centre, applicants must present an original identity evidence with a photograph, such as an Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, Passport, or ID card.
• To pass the exam, students must have a minimum score of 50% on the admission exam.
• The Entrance Exam will be place in 13 different cities.

Presentation/Interview:

• Candidates who pass the written test will be invited to an interview/presentation round.
• Only the Selected Candidates will get admission offer letters.
