How to use Instagram Stories’ new Captions speech transcription Sticker

Instagram has confirmed the rollout out of a new auto-caption feature for Stories, which will automatically transcribe words spoken within a video and add text as a sticker.

After a few users began to see the feature arrive within the app, Instagram has started the process of making the tool available to all users.

Once the new Captions Sticker has been applied, Instagram will automatically generate the caption based on the speech it deciphers within the clip. The caption can be edited for accuracy, spelling, style and colour before users post it.

The feature is primarily designed to aid those with hearing difficulties, but it’s also great for those instances when you can’t have the sound turned on when browsing Instagram.

When we at Trusted Reviews attempted to posted a video story today, we were informed of the feature via a notification from the Stickers tab. Here’s how to enable it:

1) Open Instagram and tap the + icon next to your profile picture in the top left corner to open the Stories interface. Select the thumbnail to choose the video from your or record your video within the app.

2) Once the video has been added/recorded, tap the Stickers option and select Captions from the list. If speech is detected, Instagram will use speech-to-text tech to quickly transcribe it.

3) You’ll see the words appear on the display, in sync with the pronunciation of them. However, there are other options you can select at the foot of the screen. To alter the colour, simply hit the wheel at the top of the display.

4) Tap the text itself to edit the contents and clear up any inaccuracies. Pinch in and out to make the text larger or smaller and use a finger to position it in the optimum place.

5) Post your Story as normal.

In a tweet today, Instagram confirmed the feature is coming to Reels soon too.

How to Transcribe Instagrams

2. Tap on the Preview button. You will reach the video preview screen. Tap on the Aa icon to add text.

3. Type the text for the Text-to-Speech feature. Tap on Done or the checkmark icon.

4. The text bubble will appear above the video preview slider at the bottom of the screen. Tap on it and select Text-to-Speech from the menu. This feature is still rolling out to many users, if you can’t see it yet, you will have to wait.

5 . The Choose voice pop-up menu will open. Select Voice 1 or Voice 2 . Sadly, you cannot preview the voice here. Press Done and the voice will play. If you want to change the voice, tap on the text bubble again, select Text-to-Speech, and change the voice.

Tip: At any point, if you want to create a new Reel, save the existing Reel in drafts .

Tips to Use Text-to-Speech

Add background music.

You can add background music to the video to make the video more engaging. For that, tap on the Audio icon in the top bar. The Audio Controls screen will appear. Change Duration of Text-to-Speech

When you add text to your video, it will show up for the entire duration of the video. You can change its duration by dragging the right and left edges of the slider. How to Use Instagram Reels Voice Changer Filters

If you don’t want to use your own voice in Instagram Reels, you can apply the voice-changing filters to them. These work for both camera audio and voiceovers.

Here are the steps to add voice effects or voice effects to Reels.

1. Create a Reel by adding a video or capturing a video.

2. Tap on the Preview button. Next, tap on the Audio icon at the top.

3. Go to the Voice effects tab in the Audio Controls pop-up window. You will see 5 voice effects ⏤ Helium, Giant, Vocalist, Announcer, and Robot. Tap on an effect to preview and apply it.

1. Create a Reel video with audio in it or you can add a voiceover as well.

2. Go to the video preview screen where you can add text, doodle, etc., to your video. Tap on the Sticker icon and choose the Captions sticker from the list.

3. The sticker will start transcribing the text and show you the preview. Choose the font style from the available options at the bottom. You can also change the font and background color from the top icons. When done editing, tap on Done. Drag the caption text to change its position on the video.

Tip : Add the Voice effect to the videos with a caption to create interesting videos.

Instagram has added text-to-speech and voice effects to its TikTok competitor Reels, two features TikTok has had for some time. The robotic voice-overs used as narration for videos grew so ubiquitous on TikTok in fact, that voice actor Bev Standing sued the company in May , saying it didn’t have permission to use her voice. In September, TikTok reached a settlement with Standing that included a licensing agreement.

While it’s popular among TikTok creators, more importantly, text-to-speech is a widely used accessibility feature that allows blind people and those with low vision to hear spoken versions of written text.

To use text-to-speech in Reels, open the Instagram app and go to the Reels camera, record or upload a video, and add text to the video using its text tool. Tap the text bubble to get to the three-dot menu, and select “text-to-speech,” then choose which voice option you want. Then post the Reel as usual.

If you want to add voice effects to your Reel, which lets you modify audio including a voice-over, after recording a Reel, tap the music note to open the audio mixer, tap “effects” and choose the voice effect you want. Options include “helium,” “giant,” and “robot.”

Reels launched in 2020 , meant to be a direct competitor to the wildly popular TikTok. Instagram launched a bonus program for creators in July, part of parent company Facebook’s (now Meta) plan to pay $1 billion to creators through 2022, and has offered creators with high follower counts as much as $35,000 in bonuses to create Reels .

Meanwhile, TikTok has evolved its text-to-speech feature with specialized character voices ; on Friday it introduced text-to-speech voices from Disney characters including Stitch, Chewbacca, Rocket Raccoon, and others.

Zelenskyy dismissed former leader of the state guards Serhiy Rud on Thursday, after the state security service (SBU) said earlier this week that it had unearthed an assassination plot against Zelenskyy and other important officials. A successor for Rud has yet to be named.

The SBU said that the assassinations were meant to be a “gift” for Russian President Vladimir Putin as he was sworn in for a new term in office on Tuesday.

The SBU said that the two men, both colonels in the state guard, had planned to take Zelenskyy hostage and later kill him.

Other key officials, including SBU head Vasyl Maliuk and Kyrylo Budanov, the military intelligence agency’s head, were also said to be targets of the failed effort.

Moscow has not commented on the allegations by the SBU, which alleged that the two bodyguards had passed on sensitive information to the FSB, Russia’s security service.

It is not the first assassination effort that the Ukrainian leader has faced down, stating last year that at least five Russian plots have been foiled since the war began.

Zelenskyy’s administration has faced growing difficulties in recent months, and has shaken up some key staffing positions as progress in the country’s war against Russia stalls out and officials face accusations of corruption.

In February, Zelenskyy named Oleksandr Syrskyii as the new army chief after dismissing General Valerii Zaluzhny from the position.
