Call for Proposals: UK-Indonesia Going Global Partnerships Grant 2022

Going Global Partnerships builds stronger, more inclusive, internationally connected higher education and TVET systems which support economic and social growth.

Responding to UK-Indonesia Joint Working Group on Higher Education, the British Council is delighted to publish a grant call for UK universities to submit joint proposals with Indonesia universities to design and deliver projects on improving pre-service training for future teachers working in early childhood education (preschool) and in inclusive education setting. The two focus areas are identified by Directorate General Education Personnel, Indonesia’s Ministry of Education (Kemdikbudristek). Please refer to Appendix 1 to find out more about these two focus areas.

To ensure greater impact and sustainability, we will prioritise proposals that work more on pre-service teacher training. We know that universities which deliver pre-service teacher training are playing important role in improving quality of teachers in the future. They are anchor institutions. Our assumptions are adequately prepared teachers will contribute to the resilient of an education system, and internationally connected higher education institutions would be more energised to share best practice and to draw from each other’s expertise to create sustainable solutions. That being said, we also recognise that pre-service and in-service trainings are interconnected.

Grant Objectives

The overarching aim of the Grant is to facilitate partnerships between UK and Indonesia universities to design and deliver projects on improving pre-service training for teachers working in early childhood education and inclusive education .

The Grant can cover partnership activities which deliver the following objectives:

• Explore ideas, share knowledge, and best practice
• Strengthen capacity in teaching, learning, research and innovation
• Establish new institutional or enhance existing partnership in areas such as:
• Mobility (students and academics)
• Developing contents and materials, and piloting them
• Transnational education (TNE)

Activities covered by the Grant can be delivered in digital or face-to-face or blended format. However, we strongly encourage applicants to consider carbon footprint when planning and designing activities for the proposal. It is important that the proposals demonstrate the ability to generate outcomes which can be felt by wider HEIs in the UK and Indonesia.

Grant Amount

Funding allocated for the Grant is GBP 120,000 in total . It is intended to support four collaborative projects . Maximum grant allocated per project is GBP 30,000 . Project duration is maximum of 15 months from 1 January 2023 until 31 March 2024 . The funding is for the whole project duration and not per annum.

Funding must be jointly applied by a UK university (lead applicant) and an Indonesian university (partner) . The British Council will sign grant agreement with the lead applicant, and channel the funding to them. It is the responsibility of the lead applicant to discuss and reach an agreement with their Indonesia partner about funding management and disbursement. It is the responsibility of the lead applicant to transfer the funding to the partner. This division of budget must be clearly referenced in the proposal.

Accredited UK universities are invited to submit join application with accredited Indonesia universities. Deadline for application is at 11.59pm UK time on 7 November 2022 .

• The proposer is a UB lecturer as host or partner who has 2 partners from 16 PTNBH for Scheme A. Then for Scheme B and C the proposer must have 1 partner from either 16 PTNBH or BRIN/Foreign research institutions/Foreign state universities based on the scheme terms.
• They are 3 schemes offered in RKI Program namely:
• Scheme A (Collaboration of 16 PTNBH) Research Fund: Host: Rp.100.000.000,- and partner: Rp. 50.000.000,-
• Scheme B (Collaboration of 16 PTNBH with BRIN) Research Fund: Host: Rp. 125.000.000,- and partner: Rp. 75.000.000,-
• Scheme C (Collaboration of 16 PTNBH with Foreign research institutions/Foreign state universities) Research Fund: Host: Rp. 150.000.000,- and partner: Rp. 75.000.000,-

JASTIP-Net 2022: Call for application for new collaborative researches

Call for research proposals of jastip-net 2022.

Together with the our headquarters and joint laboratories in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, JASTIP-Net also plays an important role in strengthening the Japan-ASEAN research collaboration network, as well as widening and deepening the coverage of the JASTIP activities across the ASEAN region. JASTIP-Net extends the outreach of JASTIP by seeking prospective and promising partners to launch new research initiatives that expand the existing JASTIP collaborations. JASTIP-Net also acts as an incubator for developing capacities, fostering partnership and growing new endeavors into mature research projects.

Research themes for 2022

Please choose one of the research themes listed below (which is also indicated in the application form). Applicant who is unsure whether the potential theme is in line with one of the following theme, or is cross-cutting (i.e. falls under two or more themes) is encouraged to submit the “first-step” application as early as possible to provide time for the JASTIP core researchers to contact applicants for clarifications and discussion.

(1) WP1 Partnership, Networking and Integrated Approach

• Leading STI coordination activities either at an institutional, national or regional level towards solving societal issues in ASEAN and Japan.*The activities can be both practical and theoretical, for example, organizing mock interviews to apply for grant applications or pitch talks to facilitate academic-industry collaboration, designing a STI landscape study or capacity development curriculum, but not limited to those.
• Facilitating dialogues between scientists/researchers and policy-makers to embed scientific findings into the SDGs policy formulation in line with JASTIP research focus (energy and environment, bioresources and biodiversity, disaster risk reduction and prevention).

(2) WP2: Energy and Environment Joint Laboratory

• Development and application of functional materials for energy and environment
• Implementation Study of Renewable Energy in South East Asia

(3) WP3: Bioresources and Biodiversity Joint Laboratory

• Studies on Bioresources and biodiversity in the ASEAN region, preferably the collaborative research of ASEAN and Japan and among ASEAN countries.

(4) WP4: Disaster Prevention and Risk Reduction Joint Laboratory

• How to cope with trans-boundary disasters in the ASEAN region such as tsunami, flood, drought and haze.
• Follow up and strengthen existing partnership and collaboration conducted in the 1st Phase.
• Regional workshops on the specific issues or regional dialogues and forums to exchange views, learn best practice and share the solutions.
• Exchange of researchers particularly young or early career to promote partnership among ASEAN institutions.

Proposals that consider following aspects and approaches would be given priorities;

• Emphasis on potential linkages for achieving the SDGs at the local/national level.
• Practical research, pilot implementation and societal impacts.
• Proposal jointly developed by researchers from two or more countries.
• Proposal jointly developed with JASTIP Joint Laboratories.
• Application by young and female researchers.

Obligations for successful applicants

• Some of the selected applicant(s) may be registered as JASTIP research partner(s)/collaborator(s) in the official JASTIP report to JST.
• In carrying out your research supported by JASTIP (hereinafter referred as to “JASTIP collaborative research”), you are required to follow a set of regulations and guidelines relating to Research Compliance and Ethics of Kyoto University, most notably with regard to Security Trade Control. Please see further details at https://www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/research/research-compliance-ethics . Kindly also refer to Section 7 Budgetary management and limitations in the guideline.
• Research partners can be requested to publicize the results of their research at an appropriate occasion, for example, an international symposium to be organized by JASTIP.
• When presenting the results of the research (including at public symposiums, academic conferences, and on electronic media), an acknowledgement of JASTIP support is to be noted. (ex. This research is conducted as an integral part of a JASTIP project with necessary supports.)
• [Important] After completion of activity, the selected applicant(s) shall submit JASTIP-Net 2022 Final report  to the JASTIP Secretariat and supervisors from JASTIP upon termination of activity by 15 May 2023 (by 6 weeks after the completion). The submitted report will be publicized on the JASTIP website. Please note researches that generate promising outputs may be given a priority in the next-year round of JASTIP-Net for the sake of continuity.

• The file name should read “ JASTIP-Net 2022 application-(Your family name)-(Title).docx or xslx ”
• Submit the file in Microsoft Word format
• The proposed budget for an application should NOT exceed the maximum amount of JPY half million (approx. USD 4,500)

Call For Research and Community Service Proposals in 2022

Corresponding the admission of research and community service proposals for the 2022 funding, the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service (DRTPM) of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, we hereby inform you that in order to increase the participation of permanent lecturers at State Universities (PTN) and Private Universities (PTS) in Research and Community Service, DRTPM opens Admission of Research and Community Service Proposals for 2022 Funding from January 25 to February 10, 2022 . The proposals received are the new ones (not advanced proposals).

The proposal submission should be under the provisions of the Revised XIII Edition of the Research and Community Service Guidelines (Appendix 1) and is carried out online through Simlitabmas at the page address http://simlitabmas.kemdikbud.go.id.

The following conditions apply to the admission of the proposal.

• Proposals for Research and Community Service that will be funded for the 2022 budget can be submitted by the proposer from January 25 to February 10, 2022, on the http://simlitabmas.kemdikbud.go.id page.
• Proposals that have been submitted/resubmitted/revised by the proposer, are then processed for approval by the Chairperson of the LP/LPM/LPPM using the Simlitabmas application.
• Proposals whose approval status is “rejected” by the Chairperson of LP/LPM/LPPM cannot be revised.
• Proposals whose approval status is “accepted” by the Chairperson of LP/LPM/LPPM are the ones that will then be subject to administrative and substance selection by the Directorate of Research, Technology, and Community Service (DRTPM).
