Those CIMA May case study pass rates
The May 2023 CIMA case study exam pass rates are out, and it was a mixed bag of results.
The operational case study pass rate dipped 4 percentage points to 64% (when compared to February 2023). It hasn’t been this low since May 2022, when the pass rate was 62%.
The management case study pass rate also fell to 67% in May (it was 72% in February). We went back to February 2021 pass rates and this is the lowest it has been for over 10 exam sittings!
The good news was the Strategic case study, which saw the pass rate rise to 62%. The Strategic case study has the most volatile pass rates, which have been as high as 72% (February 2022) and as low as 56% (February 2023).

Case Studies - How well do you need to know your theory?
I am preparing to sit the May 2023 Management Level Case Study exam. I failed the OCS twice so am quite nervous about sitting this exam.
Watching tuition videos, I hear a lot that "this is not a theory exam"
However from my understanding of the case studies you do still need to know all 3 objective test topics extremely well and to an extent be able to regurgitate this theory into the case study exam.
I am aware that you score well from being able to apply the knowledge to the case scenario but it does seem like a very large amount of material you need to be ready to use, especially considering it is a closed book exam.
I am doing the traditional route (not FLP) so have done my time and have been on the Management Level for about a year but I am still daunted by the amount of material there is to revise and refresh on, as it seems they could ask you about anything.
So to anyone who has sat Case Study exams, how important do you think learning the theory is for these exams and how much of your prep time should be spent recapping E,P & F topics?

How about the case study exams?
Bearing in mind the pre-seen material is released around 7 weeks before the exams, we’d recommend:
- Between 6 to 8 weeks for your preparations
- 10+ hours per week
As with any exam preparation, more time is better . So don’t limit yourself to these times if you have more available!
So… what’s the big lesson here?
Rushing exam prep is one of the biggest reasons for exam failures , and as a result, taking longer to get CIMA qualified!
Therefore, it’s vital that you think about giving yourself enough time for your exam prep when selecting your CIMA exam dates. If you do that, then you should be set on your way to getting that pass!
Okay, I’m ready to go! How do I book my exam?
Now that you’re all clued up on the CIMA exam dates, when’s best to book your exam, what type of exam to book and how long to allow for your studies, you’re ready to get it booked in !
Luckily, the team at CIMA have made the booking process super easy, so you shouldn’t have any problems there.
Simply head over to the CIMA booking website and follow the steps to schedule your exam.
You must complete both practice exams and one of the mock exams and send them to your allocated marker by the deadlines set out in the course schedule.
You must not copy the mock exam solutions. If you do so this will invalidate your pass guarantee.
You must achieve an average mark of at least 30% in your submitted practice and mock exams. This is to ensure you are putting in enough effort.
You must attend or watch the recorded versions of the masterclasses and make notes on the pass guarantee form.
Use the pass guarantee form to document your key learning points throughout your studies, submit within 1 week of the final exam.
You must confirm that you have read and understood the pass guarantee terms.
View & Print:
1. Click the “View + Print” link to view the study text.
2. Wait for all of the pages to load , this can sometimes take a couple of minutes depending on the size of the document (scroll to the last page to ensure that every page loads).
3. Click on the print icon within the document viewer (NOT the print icon in the browser menu).
4. Follow the steps to print.
Other things to try:
Please try an alternative browser. Google Chrome and Firefox are recommended, but other browsers may also work. Updating your browser to the latest version can help your document load more quickly.
If you are using Windows XP and a version of Internet Explorer older than 9, we cannot guarantee that printing will be possible. We recommend obtaining access to a computer with at least Windows 7.
Updating to the latest version of flash can help to resolve some people’s printing issues ( download the latest version of flash .)
If your document fails to load, try clearing your cache and browser history. If your documents still do not load it may be due to the network you are on. We suggest trying to print on a different network.
If you still cannot print your document we suggest using a different computer and/or printer in case you are experiencing a hardware issue.

CIMA August 2023 Case Studies. Students sitting the August 2023 case study exam have the advantage of the pre-seen materials being released a few months back, due to the fact that they were also used for the May 2023 exams. This gives students plenty of time to PREPARE meticulously and get to know the pre-seen materials inside out.
