 Oversees day-to-day management and execution of multiple complex research projects and ensures compliance with all funding agencies and sponsors.  This position is at the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC), a multi-disciplinary center for research to advance the science of learning by bringing together leading researchers in the cognitive, social, and educational sciences. The Understanding Development in Diverse Contexts (UDDC) Lab is seeking a Lab Manager and Project Coordinator to join our research team. The UDDC Lab investigates structural, contextual, and sociocultural influences on child and adolescent academic achievement, psychological well-being, and physical health, with a particular focus on how race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status intersect to shape children’s development and the contexts they grow up in. The Lab Manager/Project Coordinator will report to and work closely with the lab director to oversee and coordinate the daily operations and research projects of the UDDC Lab. This position offers substantive opportunities for professional development, including the ability to pursue independent research projects using lab data, collaborate with the research team to perform quantitative and qualitative analyses and co-author publications, and receive guidance and mentorship geared towards the team member’s professional interests and aspirations. This position’s key responsibilities include the following: Provide technical and administrative support for research studies; manage lab administrative and financial operations and the preparation, submission, and modification of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols; lead participant recruitment efforts, screen and obtain consent/assent from study participants; co-supervise a team of undergraduate and postbaccalaureate research assistants; co-manage efforts to establish, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with community-based stakeholders and organizations; manage lab communications across multiple platforms (e.g., social media, lab website); and complete other assigned duties that support the lab's research and training endeavors. Candidates should possess the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or possess skills and work experience commensurate with a BA/BS) in psychology, human development, education, sociology, social work, or other social science, though we will consider candidates with training outside of these fields and those without a BA/BS who can demonstrate the knowledge of psychological and behavioral science and research methods requisite for this role; research experience in the fields of psychology, child and adolescent development, or pre-K through grade 12 education; interest in and commitment to conducting policy-relevant research centered on promoting the health and well-being of ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse children and families; advanced computer and technology skills, including proficiency with basic office productivity tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides); superior problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative; ability to work independently as well as to seek support when necessary, prioritize competing projects and duties, and work collaboratively in a team environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail. Experience using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R) and/or qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo) is desirable, but not required. Job Summary:

The Eating-related Methodology, Behaviors, and Risk (EMBARK) Lab is seeking a full-time research coordinator to assist with the development and implementation of several projects. The EMBARK lab is directed by Dr. Katherine Schaumberg, with a focus on the distinction between adaptive and maladaptive patterns of eating and exercise. The coordinator will assist in developing study protocols and IRB applications, along with recruitment and assessment of participants with eating disorders, social media management, data management, involvement in analysis of genomic and behavioral data, and preparation of scientific presentations and manuscripts. This opportunity is ideal for an individual who has a strong interest in pursuing graduate education in areas such as: clinical, counseling, or sport psychology; exercise science; nutrition; population health; data science. Applicants should be interested in working in a lab community that values empirical inquiry, psychological flexibility, and intensive collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • 20% Schedules logistics, determines workflows, and secures resources for a defined clinical research trial(s)
  • 20% Recruits, screens, selects, determines eligibility and enrolls trial participants, collects information, and answers questions under supervision of a medically licensed professional. May perform basic medical assessments after completion of required training/certification, such as collecting vital signs, obtaining weight, and performing phlebotomy
  • 10% Manages research workflow components, collects, prepares, processes, and submits participant data and samples to appropriate entities, adhering to research protocols
  • 5% Identifies work unit resources needs and manages supply and equipment inventory levels
  • 30% Serves as an initial point of contact for clinical research participants and clinical staff, providing information regarding research procedures, expectations, and informational inquiries. Ensures participants follow the research protocol and alerts Principal Investigator of issues
  • 15% Conduct clinical assessments.

PROJECT COORDINATOR

The project coordinator will perform a range of administrative, research, data collection, and knowledge translation activities and will assist with the implementation and delivery of a qualitative research study designed to better understand the lived experiences of Black queer people in Ontario during COVID-19.

The Black 2SLGBTQ+ well-being during COVID-19 study is a community-based research study funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research. This qualitative study is a multi-sector partnerships between Black-led organizations like the Black Queer Youth Collective, Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention, and Womens Health In Womens Hands alongside the Black Research Committee of Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of Toronto. The project seeks to understand the unique experiences of Black Queer and Trans individuals during the pandemic and will examine the sexual health and mental health needs of Black queer people living in Ontario during COVID-19.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

- Undergraduate degree or higher (MA preferred) in psychology or a closely related field

- Experience in working in a research laboratory and/or project management preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Support grant administration and project implementation:

- Coordinating data collection and recruitment

- Corresponding with study participants via phone and email, booking appointments

- Response monitoring, and management of data files (e.g., in excel)

- Overseeing community group facilitators

- Writing up findings for academic presentations and papers

- Developing a variety of diverse knowledge dissemination materials (e.g., lay summaries, infographics, tweets)

- Providing detailed information on upcoming funding and reporting requirements

- Liaising with relevant stakeholders (e.g. collaborators, students, agencies, organizations) as directed

- Proof-reading content and fast checking of project and research documents

- Collating and organizing research, project, and grant materials

Provide administrative support:

- Responding to inquiries within the defined scope of the role and re-directing as appropriate

- Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, and providing meeting minutes

- Tracking timelines and project deliverables, and following-up on tasks

- Maintaining project records, and data archives

- Providing training to staff (and sharing policies, training, and protocol to staff)

- Writing routine documents and correspondence

- Editing work, and making revisions

- Getting price estimates with approval

- Providing IT and tech support around survey and data analytic platforms and programs

- Drafting materials for presentations

- Designing graphics and figures for presentations and reports

- Formatting manuscripts according to journals guidelines

- Updating websites and social media

- Providing administrative support to students and volunteers in the lab
