Since school days, she takes an interest in acting and always wanted to become an actress. While she was studying in college, she took part in a website contest in which her sister Nupur Sanon clicked and sent her photos. Fortunately, she won that online website contest, and the famous Indian photographer Dabboo Ratnani gave her a free portfolio. She also got a contract for one year with a well-known modelling agency. She is a great model and has been the first choice for so many fashion designers like Ritu Beri , Niki Mahajan , and Suneet Varma . Kriti was also good in studies, and she even received two job offers through placements, but she rejected to pursue her career in modelling and acting. Kriti Sanon on completing 10 years in Bollywood: ‘I’ve fallen in love with acting’

From a college graduate who wasn’t sure about starring in films to winning a National Film Award, it has been an interesting journey for actor Kriti Sanon , who credits her engineering background for staying curious.

Sanon made a promising film debut opposite fellow newcomer Tiger Shroff with 2014’s Heropanti, which she followed up with acclaimed performances in films such as Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi and Mimi, which earned her a National Film Award for best actress.

“Sometimes, it is difficult to realise that it has been 10 years in this industry. Suddenly, it feels so long,” the 33-year-old actor told PTI in an interview here.

“There was a point when I was in college and I didn’t even know that I wanted to act. I went from discovering that I could act to finally pursuing it… I think I’ve fallen in love with acting over time,” she added.

The Delhi-born actor, who currently stars in sci-fi romance Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, decided to become an actor after completing her engineering degree from Noida’s Jaypee Institute of Information Technology.

“It’s my engineering mind that’s really curious and always trying to absorb everything like a sponge to learn and grow. I’ve always been like that. I have evolved with time, at least, that’s been my goal. I have figured out what works for me as an actor and what doesn’t.

“I also feel that I don’t know what my process is because I don’t want to limit myself. Sometimes, I do ‘hit and trial’ of finding new ways of doing something. Sometimes, it works. Sometimes, it doesn’t,” she said.

Kriti Sanon, 33, said she is lucky to be in a profession that’s not monotonous.

“When I get a character that has something that scares me and I don’t know how to do it, then it really excites me. I’m blessed to have a job where I wake up every day and I’m doing something different, and it’s not a monotonous life,” she said.

The actor said she has never tried to plan her journey in cinema.

“I want to leave a mark and be inspirational to many people who probably are dreaming of coming here and doing what they love. It just feels amazing. (I want to) keep finding new layers to me and my potential as an actor. Keep doing different work that excites me. I want to work till I physically cannot work,” she said.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya , the actor said, sounded like an entertaining love story. The film features Shahid Kapoor in the role of Aryan, an engineer who decides to marry a robot, named Sifra, played by Sanon.

“Love stories are my favourite genre but they are not made very often. The good ones are made even less because there are fewer conflicts these days. But this conflict I never imagined.

“It’s quirky, different. What’s new is that this robot is close to a human but she is not. It makes you think ‘Is this going to happen one day?’ As an actor, it was exciting because I didn’t have a reference point. I didn’t know how I was going to do it till I actually did it,” she added about the movie, directed by first-time filmmakers Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah.

She trains 6 days a week with three days reserved for Pilates and the remaining three for the weight training, and she alternates these two workout routines. Her Pilates sessions usually last for an hour and every time she performs Pilates, Yasmin makes sure that it is a new routine. They use several different machines and props to keep her workout routine interesting.

She sometimes also likes to indulge in boxing sessions once in a while and perform kickboxing workouts. Plus, she regularly attends salsa dance classes when she is in Mumbai.

It’s been a busy 2024 already for Bollywood star Kriti Sanon with back-to-back box office hits and her first film as producer due in the fall.

As revealed by Variety , Sanon and fellow A-list actor Kajol headline Netflix ‘s mystery thriller original film “Do Patti.” The film marks the producing debut of Sanon and writer Kanika Dhillon. One of Sanon’s most acclaimed acting roles is surrogacy comedy-drama “Mimi” (2021). Some of her thoughts and inputs that she discussed with director Laxman Utekar were incorporated into the film.

“I had been looking for something meaty, something that had heart in it, that said something, that was challenging for me as an actor as well. I was really going through a lot of content, and I wasn’t finding something that deep. Sometimes when you don’t find an opportunity, you have to create it,” Sanon added.

Sanon then met Dhillon, whose writing credits include Anurag Kashyap’s Toronto selection “Husband Material” (2018), Vinil Mathew’s Netflix original film “Haseen Dillruba” (2021) and Rajkumar Hirani’s Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Dunki” (2023), whose work she rates highly. Dhillon took an idea of Sanon’s and blended it with one of her own. “When I heard it, I got goosebumps,” Sanon said. “It’s been a great journey. It’s been a lot of learning. But it’s been more than anything, creatively very satisfying to see how an idea, a germ, turns into a story and how that story then finally comes alive with actors and a director’s vision.”

Directed by debutant Shashanka Chaturvedi, “Do Patti” is now in post and due to stream in the fall.

Sanon’s first release of 2024 was sci-fi rom-com “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” where she plays SIFRA (Super Intelligent Female Robot Automation), with whom robotics engineer Aryan (Shahid Kapoor) falls in love. SIFRA eventually develops sentient feelings.

“What was challenging was that there was no reference point to it. We have seen a lot of robot films before, even in India, but they’ve been very, very robotic. Here, it was almost a humanoid, it was a robot who a robotics engineer doesn’t get to know is a robot until a certain point. So, [SIFRA] has to feel that real. And that close to being a human, but then there has to be something still off about her,” Sanon said.

The actor says that she had to figure out how to make the character real, without being generically robotic or talking and moving in a robotic manner. She made her movements smooth rather than jerky and her responses quicker and more confident.

“It can get really suffocating because as actors, you like flowing, you like improvising. You have an actor as brilliant as Shahid Kapoor in front of you, who ends up doing an improv and you want to just react to him like a human being would, but you are a robot. So, you have to still be very timely and very correct. And I tried to sometimes time my blinks,” Sanon said. The actor is pleased with the response to the film’s finale where SIFRA malfunctions and she could go all out without going over the top.

“Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” is one of the biggest Indian hits of 2024 as is “ Crew ,” which follows three flight attendants with a failing airline who get involved in gold smuggling to a fictitious Middle Eastern country in an operation that’ll save them and their unpaid colleagues financially. Sanon stars alongside Bollywood A-listers Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan. “Just to be there in the same space as these two powerful women who have been reinventing themselves and are so relevant, even after having done so many films, that was a big high for me,” Sanon said.

“It had a very well-etched script with well-written characters and these three women having their own backstories, getting their own moments to shine and belonging to three different generations coming together in this mad comedy heist, which hasn’t happened before,” Sanon added.

A sequel to “Bhediya” is in the works, as is one for “Crew.” Sanon is currently evaluating scripts to decide her next project. “I’m happy and satisfied, but yet still a little restless to explore how I can push the envelope a little more. I’m not in a hurry to sign something, because I really want to do something only when I love, love, love it. So, I am looking for something that challenges me and makes me do something different from what I’ve already done,” Sanon said.

Speaking to Film Companion , Kriti said, "Does the guy have to match up to me? I think we put too much pressure on what we want. What you want and what you might need could be different."

"I might want something else, but I need someone who is real, who can make me laugh, who I can connect with and talk to for hours. Someone who respects me and my work. I think those things are more important, someone who can hold their own. I don't think someone needs to match up to me," she added.

Kriti Sanon asks why male co-stars get paid 10 times more ‘for no reason’: It's not like he's given a hit in years

Kriti Sanon is on a roll after the success of her latest film, Rajesh A Krishnan's heist comedy Crew, which stars her alongside Tabu and Kareena Kapoor. However, in a new interview with Film Companion , Kriti discussed pay parity and wondered why some of her male co-stars get paid 10 times than what she gets. What Kriti said

“The difference in payment (between male actors' and female actors') currently is huge for actually no reason. Sometimes, for no reason. Sometimes, you feel like it's not like that person has given a hit in 10 years, then why is he getting paid 10 times,” said Kriti.

She also explained how producers justify the pay gap. “A lot of the times, what the producers say is, recovery. The recovery happens with digital and satellite, which sort of happens before a film is released. Before the word kind of takes off. So to get that kind of budget from digital and satellite – because on digital and satellite, the male-centric films actually do very, very well as compared to a film on a girl. I think there's the difference,” Kriti added.

She also claimed that producers weren't willing to put in the same budget in Crew, which has three A-list female actors, as they would in a similar entertaining comedy with three male actors. She said that aspect hasn't changed in the six years since Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, producers of Crew, backed an all-women mainstream film in Veere Di Wedding. The 2018 chick flick starred Kareena and Sonam Kapoor among others, who had to take pay cuts to keep the budget of the film in check.

Crew is set in the airline industry, and revolved around three air hostesses in a sinking airline who get opportunities to make money illegally through their otherwise exploitative jobs. The film also starred Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Saswata Chatterjee and Kulbhushan Kharbanda among others. It was co-produced by Rhea, and Ekta's Balaji Motion Pictures. It earned over ₹ 75 crore at the domestic box office.

Kriti will be next seen in Netflix India thriller Do Patti alongside Kajol, which marks Kriti's debut as a producer under her banner Blue Butterfly Films.

After scoring two back-to-back hits, Kriti Sanon sat down for a chat with Film Companion. During the discussion, she was questioned about her desire for a partner with a strong value system and various other qualities, as mentioned in a previous interview. Given her success, intelligence, beauty, and financial independence, the query arose whether it's feasible for her to find a man who meets all these criteria.

The actress stated, “I don’t know. Does the guy have to match up to all that? I don’t know, I don’t think.” 

She continued, “I feel we put too much pressure to on I want this, this, this. What you want and what you need might also be different. I might feel I want someone like this who is like this, whose like that but what I might need actually might just be like simplistic thing, someone who is just real, who can make me laugh, I’ve a connect with, who I can talk to for hours, who respects me and my work and I think those things are also way more important. I don’t think someone needs to match up to me but to hold his own that is more important and to be secure absolutely and that’s very important.”

' Crew ' is a story of three women and is touted as a laugh-riot, set against the backdrop of the struggling airline industry. However, their destinies lead to some unwarranted situations, and they get caught in a web of lies.

In the film, Tabu, Kareena, and Kriti are essaying the roles of "badass" air hostesses. From stealing peanut boxes meant for flights to planning to earn a lot of money and raising the glam quotient, the trio has sought to grab eyeballs. Don’t miss their supremely elegant looks throughout the film.
