Moscow’s Seven Sisters:
During Joseph Stalin’s presidency, Moscow witnessed the construction of Seven Sisters, a series of architectural marvels known for their uniform structure and height. Also referred to as “Stalinskie Vysotki” or Stalin’s High Rises, these buildings were strategically designed to encircle the city, providing a unique identity distinct from American high-rise structures.
Noteworthy is the fact that bunkers were constructed beneath these buildings, designed to shelter residents in the event of a war. One of the Seven Sisters houses the offices of the Russian Foreign Ministry, equipped with command bunkers featuring comprehensive facilities.
These buildings, including Moscow State University and the Hotel Yu Karenia along the Moscow River, stand as a testament to Stalin’s unique architectural vision, blending artistry with functionality.
