In this blog post, I will be sharing some examples of Foreword that you can use for your book, Report, thesis, or Research Paper. You can use these foreword samples as a guide to writing your foreword for your own papers or books.

But first, let us briefly discuss what a foreword is and why and where we should write a foreword. If you want to know the full process on how to write a foreword you can check out this post .

Foreword Defination – What is a Foreword?

A foreword is a short introduction paragraph written by someone other than the author of a book or a report. However, it can be written by the author himself as well if needed. It offers some insight into both the author and paper, either via the writer’s personal or professional relationship with the author or through the writer’s connection to the topic or area.

By writing a foreword, a person expresses their approval or support for the research and its author. So, while selecting a writer for a foreword, an author seeks to choose the “best” person to introduce them and their work.

The content provided in the foreword should introduce the reader to the author or work, explain why the reader should read the book, and give the book or author credibility.

The foreword of the preface is to discuss the relationship between the author and his book. Now tell your readers why you care about the book and why you are proud to have the opportunity to recommend it.

What Is A Foreword?

A foreword is a brief introduction written by someone other than the book’s or report’s author. However, if necessary, the author can even write it themselves. Through the writer’s link with the author, whether personal or professional, or the writer’s connection to the subject or region, it provides some insight into both the author and the paper.

An individual might endorse the study’s author and the research by writing a foreword. Therefore, when choosing a foreword writer, an author looks for the “best” person to identify them and their work.

What type of information should be included in my thesis or report?

The introduction to the paper attempts to solve three main tasks called locomotion.

Step 1 Establish your territory (say what your topic is)

Step 2 Establish your niche (indicate why you need more research on your topic)

Step 3 Presentation of current research (hypothesis setting, research topic formulation)

Each movement has a series of stages. You can use one or more stages, depending on what you need to say in your introduction. Table 1 lists the most common introductory phrases to honors papers (color-coded to indicate movement). There are also examples of introductory courses categorized by level and excerpts of example sentences. After looking at Example 1 and Example 2, try the following exercise.

Most paper introductions include some (but not all) of the phases listed below. In addition, there are differences between different faculties and papers, depending on the paper’s purpose.

Rapid advances in agro-food chemistry and the vast amount of research being conducted under the auspices of domestic and international agro-food companies and private companies make interpreting the ever-changing facts a daunting task.

Dr. Innocenzo Muzalpo and Dr. Sabrina Micali’s Agricultural and Food Biotechnology ebook contains many articles that are excellent examples of advanced work applied to relevant problems. The book covers key areas of agricultural science: crop improvement, production, nutrients, pests, disease, genetics, genomics, and the food industry.

The authors’ contributions include variables of quantitative genetic inheritance, crop rotation, soil moisture, and the effects of temperature on the production and manipulation of germplasm. In addition, aspects such as the protection of crops from pests and diseases are also considered while ensuring the protection of human health.

This thesis was written for a master’s degree in traffic science specializing in traffic safety at the University of Hasselt, Belgium. The theme of this graduation thesis is the scientific behavioral observation of road users. This is a desirable research topic from the pure concept of transportation to human behavioral and habitual characteristics due to its mix of engineering and social sciences.

After thanking Almighty Allah and my family for their constant support, I thank a few people here. First, I am very grateful to my promoter (Prof. or Dr. Stijn Daniels), co-promoter (Prof. in Dr. Tom Brijs), and supervisor (Wouter Van Haperen) for their guidance, reviews, and recommendations. In particular, Wouter worked with me in reviewing this behavioral observational study; with him, this was possible. Furthermore, these people helped me with my research whenever needed. I started with a degree in Computer Science. After that, I fell in love with improvisational comedy. I somehow became the CEO of Twitter. We live in a world or a place where the yellow brick road has many forks and takes us on incredible journeys. Knowing the final destination of these journeys is getting harder and harder. Gone are the giant corporations that care for us from start to finish. But this is exciting news. It means that you can choose the life you want. You choose this life by doing your best at this moment. 

What I love about James and his book is that you can see that he came down a similar roller coaster – he chose the path to success without knowing the consequences. And what will happen to him after that? Do you know? The key is to be brave at this moment. As James says in the title of the book, “Choose Yourself,” he explains how. Choose yourself now.

The substantive chapters of your thesis are always preceded by a foreword. In this chapter, you address the reader personally. Here, you can thank people who helped you with your thesis, perhaps share something about the choice of your thesis topic or talk about your experience writing your thesis . Are you curious about what a preface should contain and what a good preface for your thesis looks like? Then keep reading!

The preface of your thesis is intended to prepare the reader for the content of the thesis. The preface usually contains the following information:

An introduction of the thesis topic in a few sentences;

Information about your personal background (your studies, interests, any internship and any personal experiences that have sparked your interest in this subject);

Your experiences while writing the thesis;

Thank the people or organisations that helped you write your thesis (e.g. your thesis supervisor, a fellow student or a family member who gave you the necessary mental support).

For your thesis, you have to use an academic writing style. This includes impersonal writing. In the thesis itself, you do not use 'I' or 'we,' and you do not address the reader directly. In your foreword, however, you can. This chapter is more personal (of course, it is still written using a professional writing style). Therefore, it is appropriate to write 'I' and address the reader with words like 'you' or 'us'. 

The preface is always at most one A4. Assume about four to five paragraphs, each a few lines long. 

At the end of the foreword, put your first and last name, the place name and the date you wrote this foreword. By the way, it is customary to write the foreword of your thesis only at the very end of the process. This is when you will be able to best articulate your experience with the entire writing process. 

Usually, the thanks is part of the preface in your thesis. A separate thank-you note is then not necessary. In dissertations, however, you often see a separate thank-you note. This has to do with the fact that you work longer on a thesis, that there are more people involved, and that you therefore often have more people to thank.

The thesis demonstrates the student’s ability to understand, apply and produce professional results in his/her own field. At its best, the thesis serves as a bridge between student and working life.

This guide follows the general principles of thesis composition drawn up in national university of applied sciences working groups in 2005 and 2006. The guide is to be applied in all degree programmes in Centria University of Applied Sciences, but each field also has its own practices that will be explained in more detail in the thesis seminars.

In this updated guide the previous guidelines have been defined more closely. Examples have been added and the biggest changes to the previous guide concern structure models of different theses, assessment and using the Harvard style for referencing, which enables the use of the reference management software Mendeley. Also, the Centria Thesis Word template has been updated. Ethical guidelines have been added to this guide and should be taken into consideration when writing a thesis.
