When I was a student, I personally loved using a homework calendar. It helped me see the bigger picture and take all of my obligations into account. You can use the homework calendar template as is or you can edit it to suit your needs. Add your list of assignments below. Add each assignment to the calendar on the due date. This is a blank calendar that you can use for any month.

If you select the Excel version, then there is a dropdown list to select the subject, priority, and status. You can edit the list of subjects under the “subjects” tab. Each subject is automatically assigned a color code . All assignments that are due the next day are colored red. Assignments due that week are orange and those that are due that month are yellow.

This homework tracker can track your homework assignments, the subjects, due dates, and the status of each assignment. There is a dropdown list to select the subject and each subject will be marked with a different color. To change the list of subjects, go to the subject tab and list each subject. The priority can be either urgent, high, normal, or low. The status is either “to do” or “done”. You can change the priority or the status in the tabs.

Assignment Tracker

This Excel spreadsheet keeps track of assignments, who is responsible for each, and when each assignment is due. The color of each assignment changes according to the due date. When the assignment is due it will turn yellow. You can also open this spreadsheet on Google Sheets.

What is a homework planner?

This is a planner to track your homework and assignments to ensure that you prepare and submit everything on time. An assignment planner can keep track of all your assignments and is a great tool for priority management. However, if you have other obligations such as tests, social and family gatherings, etc, it might be better to prepare a planner that takes all your obligations into account. If you have a family gathering the day before a test, then you will know you will need to start studying one day earlier than you would have. If you don’t keep track of deadlines and everything you need to do, you might find yourself stressed or too late to get everything done. Planning will take the stress out of school and help you be more productive and organized.

How to use an assignment tracker?

Learning how to manage your time is an essential skill that will be needed later on in life as well. Time management is something that sets efficient people apart from those who do not manage their time well and get little done or even fall apart when stressed. Our job as parents is to give our children the skills and tools to manage their time well and get things done, even when they have a lot on their plate.

Start helping your kids to get organized when they are young. Help them write their assignments in their planner. Help them organize their time and schedule. The younger they are, the less they have on their plate. This is the time to help them acquire the skills they will need when they are older and obligations start to become more overwhelming. Remind your kids to review their planner regularly until it becomes a habit. By the time they are older, in high school or college, they will be able to manage their time efficiently.

It isn’t enough to write assignments and homework in a planner when you receive them. In order for a planner to be efficient, you will need to review it regularly. Start a daily habit where you check your homework calendar daily to see what needs to be done. This should be part of your child’s daily routine. If it isn’t feasible to check daily, then it should happen at least once or twice a week. If that doesn’t work, then try setting reminders on your phone.

Choose whether you want a weekly assignment planner or a daily or monthly planner. Whatever works for you. Scan the templates on this page and see which one you think will be the most helpful. For example, if your list includes, "Presentation for econ class," create subtasks for "Brainstorm subjects," "Find sources," or other project milestones.

1. Treat yourself to a semester review

After going through four years of college and way more than four planners, I realized my issue was the fact that I wasn't using an academic planner. Even then , when I found what I thought was the best college student planner, it was always missing a thing or two. That's when the BSL College Daily Planner was born, and all of my college planner dreams came true.

If you're into colorful, fun designs, Ban.do is going to be your new go-to!! They seriously have the best designs and so many different planner formats. My personal favorite Ban.do planner is their undated to-do planner , but I am super intrigued by this monthly planner that has great reviews.

Fringe has some of my favorite stationery ever. This black, leather planner is simple and no frills. It's perfect for the person who wants an undated planner that they can use when they need it and don't have to feel locked into a planning schedule.

5. Completely Custom College Student Academic Planner

OKAY - I did not know about Plum Paper, and I am shook. This planner is  completely  customizable down to all the text and colors. You can put your name on the cover, change the labels for each section, and even rearrange the layout. 

6. Genius Juice Academic Year Planner

How cute is this?! I'm seriously obsessed with everything Papier does (as you now know) and this is one of their fun, quirky designs that I just can't get enough of. They have the best habit trackers in this college schedule planner too.

Of all of the planners I have tried, the Erin Condren planners have been some of the most impressive. You can customize the planner with your name on the cover, the color of the coil, and the design of the month and week planner pages.

8. Hourly 2024-2025 Planner

This college assignment planner had amazing reviews on Amazon, and as I looked at it more I realized how perfect it was. It's really simple but it has all of the pages you need. It has time blocking (just like our BSL college planner) and monthly pages too!

9. Black Rugby Stripe - Day Designer

I always thought Target had the best selection of planners, but recently I realized they lack a really good college course planner. This is the planner that I used throughout college, the Day Designer, and I really think it is a great planner.

If you're a die hard Target fan (like me) you will know that this is the BEST. Their planners are so cute and they are really good quality too. This minimalistic dot planner is adorable and perfect for a college student who just needs a good, basic planner.

This Sugar Paper planner from Target is so cute and girly!! I'm obsessed. It also comes with a ton of cute stickers which makes it even better!

12. Rocketbook Academic Planner

Have you ever heard of this super high tech reusable notebook? You use a special pen to take notes and then you can upload all of your notes to your computer through an app. That would be soooo helpful in college when you have to submit everything online.

What planner is best for college students.

I may be biased, but I really believe the BSL College Daily Planner is the best planner on the market for college students. I designed it so carefully alongside other college students and it truly is perfect. We made sure to include every single thing a college student will need to stay organized and on top of everything their days throw at them.  

Should I use a planner in college?

I HIGHLY recommend using a planner in college. When I tell you you will have a lot on your plate, I'm not kidding. Not only will you have a million school assignments with due dates and test dates, you will also have a social life to balance that you will need to fit in. You 100% will need a planner of some sort. 

How many college students use a planner?

While I don't have an exact number to give you, I can tell you that almost every single of the successful college students I knew and know now use a planner. If I were to give you a rough estimate, I would say that about 80% of college students use a planner of some sort.

How do you organize college planners?

I like to organize my college planner by using time blocking for the week days and a simple to-do checklist for my assignments and errands. I also like long term planning in my college planner to visualize my due dates throughout the year. 

Do planners really help students?

Short answer: YES. Long answer: planners are literally the only thing that I think can effectively help students organize and prioritize their to-do's. Always write it down, that's just my motto in life. 

What do you write in a college planner?

I put pretty much everything in my college planner. I scheduled out everything from classes to doctor's appointments to parties. Basically, if something was happening in my life, it was in my planner!!

In high school and college there’s a whole lot to keep track of. It can be overwhelming! If you don’t have a plan, it’s easy to forget things, miss deadlines, or find yourself running out of time. You need a system to keep track of everything to keep stress low, achieve academic success, and enjoy school and life! What does your system need? All of your commitments in one central location. By putting your assignments, activities and projects into your college assignment planner you can easily see what your week or month holds. As a student you know that school work is just part of the big picture. You may have jobs, sports, clubs, and volunteering, as well as hanging out with friends. By adding all of these extracurricular and social activities to your college weekly planner, you can see how it all works together. With the full picture you can effectively manage your time. Master Your Planner in 4 Easy Steps

1. write down your goals.

Studies show that people who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them than people who don’t. Take a moment at the beginning of the year to write down what new habits you want to form or things you want to achieve.

2. SEE YOUR WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Write down your schedule for classes, work, sports and any other regular activities and commitments. This lets you quickly see when you have unscheduled time and allows you to block time for studying.

3. MAP OUT YOUR SEMESTER

Transfer the deadlines from your class syllabi into your monthly views. This is also a great place to record other big commitments (sports or extracurricular events) or fun activities (formals, football games, etc.). With everything laid out in your monthly view you can start to see which weeks are going to require extra work and when you will need to get started early on assignments when you have multiple deadlines in the same week.

4. PLAN OUT YOUR WEEK

Use the different sections of the day (Remember to, Quizzes/Tests/Projects/Papers, Assignments and Activities) to write down your schedule and to-do’s for each day in your college weekly planner. Pro tip: fill this out on the weekend to give you a sense of what your upcoming week looks like. Some people plan as far in advance as possible while others do it week to week. Whatever you decide, make it a habit. Set a reminder on your phone (like “Plan your week!”) and you’ll be a planning pro in no time.
