How to apply for Converge Fiber

There are two convenient ways you can apply for a Converge ICT subscription. First, you can do the whole process in the comfort of your home. But if you’re not too technically advanced, you can go to your nearest Converge branch for assistance.

Step 1: Visit Converge’s FiberX internet website: https://gofiber.ph/apply-now

Step 2: Here you have to confirm if Converge ICT is available in your area.

To do so, type your first name, last name, mobile number, and email. Click the checkbox and hit Continue.

Step 3: Key in your address, then use the map to pin your exact location. Once done, click “Continue”.

Step 4: You shall see a pop-up like the one in the image below confirming that Converge Fiber is available in your area.

Now, click “Continue to Application”.

Step 5: Complete the rest of the application form that asks for your basic information, address, contact, and application information (employed or self-employed).

Step 6: Choose your plan and bundles.

Step 7: Review your cart and choose the mode of payment.

Step 8: Upload an image or pdf file of any government-issued ID, proof of billing, and proof of income (optional). After that, don’t forget to specify the document type in the “Sub document type”.

Step 9: Double-check that all the details you typed are correct. Click the checkboxes and tap “Submit”.

Proceed to your nearest Converge Business Centers. Make sure you bring proof of identification, and if you’re applying for a plan that’s worth Php3,000/month and above, you should also bring proof of income and billing. You can see the list below of accepted documents.

Just like most postpaid plans, household internet or mobile, all of Converge’s Fiber plans come with a 24-month or 2-year lock-in period.

According to Converge’s website, their Fiber have 30% minimum guaranteed speed of your plan with 80% service reliability.

Converge ICT is charging an installation fee of Php2,500 as a straight payment. If that’s too much, you can make a staggered payment of Php125/month for 24 months, which will be automatically added to your monthly bill.

After a successful application, a Converge ICT representative will install the unit in your home and activate your connection on their system. The whole process may take two to four days. Some may even take weeks, depending on the company’s availability.

Type your name, contact number, and email address.

Step 2: Input your province, municipality/city, barangay, and location type (subdivision, building, others), and choose the name of the subdivision/building.

Internet service provider Converge ICT Solutions on Wednesday, March 3, launched two new internet plans giving small and medium enterprises (SMEs) flexibility in bandwidth.

Converge launched Flexibiz Daytime which will give SME subscribers faster internet speeds from 7 am to 6:59 pm.

This option starts at 50 megabits per second (Mbps) during work hours and 25 Mbps for off-peak hours at P2,000. The plan is up to P15,000 for 300 Mbps during work hours and 150 Mbps off-peak speed.

In a briefing on Wednesday, Converge product management head Gilbert Virtucio said SMEs have tighter budgets, so they typically cannot increase internet bandwidth even if needed.

“Through the implementation of our network, we configured that we can give our SME twice the bandwidth and when they are not there in the office, we will revert it to the lower bandwidth,” said Virtucio.

For those who need 24/7 high-speed internet, Converge offers a premium plan called Flexibiz Peak which starts at 50 Mbps for P3,000 up to 300 Mbps for P18,000.

Converge’s older SME plans MicroBiz and iBiz – which offer 10 Mbps to 50 Mbps speeds – will no longer be available to new subscribers.

At the heels of its clean sweep of Ookla Speedtest Awards in February, fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions has again boosted its FiberX plans by as much as 600 Mbps for free for its existing customers.

The company’s flagship FiberX 1500 plan now has 300 Mbps, an upgrade from 200 Mbps. Converge previously upgraded the plan in June 2022 from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and again in November 2022 from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps.

Other plans with speed increases include FiberX Plan 2000, FiberX Plan 2500 and FiberX Plan 3500, which now have speeds of 500 Mbps, 700 Mbps, and 1 Gbps respectively.

Subscribers on work-from-home or learn-from-home arrangements using the Converge Time of Day plans also received speed boost of up to 1 Gbps which will enable them to get double their subscribed bandwidth from 7:00 a.m. to 6:59 p.m. for the Day Plan, and from 7:00 p.m. to 6:59 a.m. for the Night Plan.

Gaming-focused GameChanger subscribers also get a major speed boost of at least 500 Mbps up to 1 Gbps, allowing for an ultra-high-speed, high prioritization, low latency, and low jitter gaming experience.

The nationwide and automatic speed increase special offer will be effective from February 22 until March 31, 2024. All existing residential subscribers with subscription plans ranging from FiberX Plan 1500 to 7000 are eligible for the speed boost. No additional eligibility criteria, cost, or sign-up is required. 

In celebration of its successive wins, Converge held a lighting ceremony of its Manila headquarters, illuminating it in purple as well as key areas across the country.

Converge also lit up Plaza Anghel in Angeles City, Fort San Pedro in Cebu City, and Damosa IT Park in Davao City. The brilliant display was simulcast online and in front of media guests, brand ambassadors, and subscribers.

Recently crowned as the fastest and most awarded Internet service provider in the Philippines, Converge is enabling this speed boost in gratitude to its over 2 million customers. 

Based on Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index, the average fixed broadband speed in the Philippines as of January 2024 is 93.31 Mbps for download and 93.05 Mbps for upload.

As of the second half of 2023, Converge reached top download speeds of 457.56 Mbps and top upload speed of 448.15 Mbps.

NCR subscribers can further have instant and HQ video experiences with Converge Vision Xperience Box, an all-in-one entertainment hub with over 88 multi-genre and multi-language local and international channels.

The company is currently offering it with no cash out and plans to roll out the box to regional customers very soon.

‘International cable systems will boost Converge profits’

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. anticipates that its investments in two international cable systems will account for a “single-digit” percentage of its overall profits, recouping its investment of “hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Dennis Uy, the company’s CEO, said the company plans to sell its excess capacity in the Trans-Pacific Bifrost Cable System and the Asia Pacific SEA-H2X Submarine Cable System.

“We’re going to wholesale our capacities. If you put more capacity in the future, the Philippines becomes a hub. You need to sell the capacity to other regional [players],” he said at the sidelines of Ookla’s awarding ceremonies, where Converge bagged four awards.

Uy added that since Converge invested “hundreds of millions of dollars,” the company anticipates that they will contribute to the company’s bottomline.  When asked how much the contribution will be, Converge COO Jesus Romero said it should account for “single digit at the minimum” of the company’s net profits.

“Hard to say how big international would be. Because if Bida and S2S explode, that takes up a bigger part,” he said.

Romero said the two cable systems should be done within the fourth quarter or towards the first quarter of 2025.

Connecting Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines to the West Coast of North America, the Bifrost Cable System will span over 15,000 kilometers and will deliver capacity to “support the booming digital connectivity needs of the Asia-Pacific region and provide a critical, direct link with North America.”

Meanwhile, the SEA-H2X cable system encompasses a minimum of eight fiber pairs connecting Hong Kong to Singapore, boasting a robust design capacity of 160 Tbps to effectively address the escalating bandwidth demands within the region.

Converge’s net income for 2023 rose 22 percent to P9.1 billion from the previous year’s P7.4 billion on the expansion of its subscriber base. Revenues grew by 5 percent last year to P35.4 billion from P33.7 billion in the previous year as its residential business went up to P30.3 billion.

It registered an all-time-high quarterly gross adds of 29,844 and 38,810, for its postpaid and prepaid lines, respectively.

Due to upcoming international subsea cable payments, the inclusion of capital outlays for data centers, and delays in supplier invoices earmarked for 2023 payment, the company said it will spend P17 billion to P19 billion in capital expenditures this year, up from last year’s P9 billion.

Converge eyes virtual reality gaming business

LISTED CONVERGE ICT Solutions, Inc. is looking at cloud and virtual reality gaming as possible expansion routes for the fiber internet service provider.

“In the future, maybe virtual reality, we can also enter that, also cloud gaming,” Converge Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis Anthony H. Uy told reporters on the sidelines of a media event in Pasig City last week.

“We have started some gaming partners already with some content,” he added.

He noted the gaming industry in the Philippines is exclusive to the high-income segment due to the requirements that games demand to achieve maximum performance.

The internet provider offers the FiberX Gamechanger fixed broadband plan that is dedicated for gamers and gaming enthusiasts. It offers high-prioritization access and high internet speed plans.

Converge said   that it operates the biggest fiber-to-the-home network in the Philippines, with more than 7.9 million ports as of end-2023.

The network is equipped with 10 gigabits per second passive optical networks (GPON) technology.

“Converge selected the better version of 10GPON called XGS-PON, which is symmetric. The upload and download are done at the same speed. This is important because many of the applications today actually require more upload than download. The reality of the Metaverse for example, requires a lot of bandwidth, data transfer to the cloud, and augmented reality and virtual reality,” Converge Chief Operations Officer Jesus C. Romero said in a separate statement.

In 2023, Converge recorded a 22.3% jump in its net income to P9.1 billion as consolidated revenues climbed by 5% to P35.4 billion.

The internet provided had 2,128,052 subscribers as of end-2023. This is comprised of 2,013,216 postpaid subscribers and 114,836 prepaid subscribers.

Scott Kolack, a shopper at a Dollar Tree store in West Palm Beach, Florida, told the local TV station WPTV that if items were to go up to $7, "that'd be too much," adding: "I'd rather just get everything at Walmart."

In the weeks since the $7 price announcement, some Dollar Tree customers have commented on the company's Instagram posts expressing their displeasure.

"$7 dollar store!! Not shopping with y'all no more," one comment on a March 25 post reads.

"$1.25 was acceptable, but $7?" another commenter wrote a few days later. "We might as well go to Five Below , Family Dollar, Dollar General. Don't be surprised when business depreciates."

Dollar Tree didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The higher prices aren't coming to all Dollar Tree stores right away. CEO Rick Dreiling said earlier this year that a selection of about 300 items, which are priced from $1.50 to $7, was being rolled out to 3,000 Dollar Tree locations. The company operates about 8,000 stores under the Dollar Tree brand, as well as a similar number that uses the Family Dollar name.

Last year, Dollar Tree started experimenting with prices as high as $5. The more-expensive products included items that the retailer's executives said they hadn't previously been able to offer, such as frozen waffles and coffee creamer.

Some shoppers have flocked to dollar stores to save money as inflation has pushed prices for many consumer goods higher. Dollar Tree has even said it's noticed more customers who make six-figure incomes stopping by its stores.

But one Dollar Tree store manager in Minnesota — who worked for the company for a decade and a half before leaving in 2022 — told BI that many other less-affluent Dollar Tree customers were likely to be turned off by the higher prices.

The manager recalled that many customers bought fewer items after Dollar Tree's 2021 decision to increase prices to $1.25.

"Your average sale should actually go up a little bit if they're paying more," the manager said, adding that he instead noticed people counting at the registers and saying: "Oh, geez, I'm at $5 already. That's only four items."

"A quarter don't sound like much, but when that's the people you're catering to, it is a lot," he said.
