جیسا کہ آپ سب جانتے ہیں کہ قائد اعظم علی جناح آسمان سیات ہند کا وہ روشن ستارہ ہے جو بغیر 72 سال تک طلوع رہا۔ جس کی روشن کی کرن میں آج بھی پاکستان کی صورت میں اس عالم کو منور کر رہی ہیں ۔

کسے معلوم تھا کہ کاٹھیا واڑ کے رہنے والے چمڑے کے ایک متوسط درجہ کے تاجر جناح پونجا کے ہاں پیدا ہونے والا بینحیف ونزار بچہ بڑا ہوکر اسلامیان ہند کا نجات دہندہ اوران کاغم خوار بنے گا، وہ اپنی ملت کی ڈوبتی ہوئی کشتی کو سنبھالے گا اور اسے ساحل مراد تک لے آئے گا ، یہ معصوم بچہ بڑا ہوکران ظالموں اور شیروں کا محاسبہ کرے گا جو گزشتہ دوصدیوں سے اسلام کے نام لیواؤں کو اپنے ظلم اور نا انصافی کی چکی میں نہیں رہا ہے۔گزشتہ دوصدیوں سے اسلام کے نام لیواؤں کو اپنے ظلم اور نا انصافی کی چکی میں نہیں رہا ہے۔

محمد علی جو بعد میں جناح کہلائے اور پھر اسلامیان ہند کے کروڑوں مسلمانوں کے قائداعظم بنے ان میں سیاسی رجحان تو لندن میں زمانہ طالب علمی کے دوران ہی پیدا ہو گیا تھا مگر ہندوستان آ کر ایسی اقتصادی اور مالی دشواریوں سے دوچار ہونا پڑا. لیکن جب حالات ذرا ساز گار ہوۓ ، مالی دشواریوں کا بوجھ کم ہوا اور نسبتا سکون و آرام میسر آیا تو آپ کا دبا ہوا جذ بہ پھرا بھرا اور رفتہ رفتہ جناح نے سیاست میں حصہ لینا شروع کر دیا۔ آزادی کا سویرا بھی بہت دور تھا۔ نو جوان بیرسٹرمحمد علی جناح جسے دنیا قائداعظم کے نام سے جانتی ہے ، اب بمبئی کا جوان بیرسٹر جہاں عدالت کے کمرہ میں اپنی بیاحت بیان اور طلاقت للسان کے جو ہر دکھا تا تھا، وہاں کانگریس کے اسٹیج پر ایک بلند خطیب اور ایک شعلہ مقال مقرر، ایک بے باک سیاستدان کی حیثیت سے اس کے جو ہر کھلنے لگے، وہ کانگریس کے پلیٹ فارم پر شیر کی طرح گر جتا اور بلبل کی طرح چہکتا تھا، اس کے زور کلام کی دھوم مچ گئی ۔ اس کے دلائل کے آگے بڑے بڑوں نے سرتسلیم خم کردیا۔

یہ نوجوان اپنے اندر ایک عزم و حوصلہ رکھتا تھا، وہ خوف کی اس تاریک شب میں ہونٹ سینے سے مر جانا بہتر سمجھتا تھا. اسکی مقبولیت اور ہر دلعزیزی میں ساعت یہ ساعت اور لمحہ بہ لحہ اضافہ ہو رہا تھا۔

اب جناح کی محبوب شخصیت عوام میں روشناس ہونے لگی تھی ۔ 1908ء میں سپریم امپیریل کونسل کے ممبر بلا مقابلہ منتخب ہو گئے۔

اس انتخاب کی داستان بھی بڑی پرلطف ہے، سپریم امپیریل کنسل میں مسلمنان بیٹی کی ایک ہی نشست تھی۔ اس نشست کے لئے دو امیدوار تھے۔ دونوں خطابات سرکاری کی دولت سے مالا مال اور نعمت دنیاوی سے بہرہ ور تھے ، دونوں کی تمنا تھی کہ کونسل میں جائیں لیکن دونوں ایک دوسرے کی سرکاری و جاہت، سرمایہ داری اور سرمایہ دارانہ اثر و رسوخ سے بھی خائف تھے۔ دونوں ممبر ہونا چاہتے تھے لیکن ایک دوسرے کے مقابلے سے بھی گریز کرتے تھے کہ انجام خدا جانے کیا ہوگا۔ یہاں تو کوئی ایسا شخص چاہئے تھا جو آندھیوں کے سامنے اپنے جسم و جاں کی دیوار کھڑی کر دے۔ وہ آندھیوں سے ٹکرانے کا عزم رکھتا ہو، جو اپنے گھر کی حفاظت کرنا جانتا ہو، آخر کافی غور و خوض کے بعد مسلمانوں کی نظر انتخاب محمدعلی جناح پر پڑی ، انہیں ان سے بہتر کوئی امید وار دکھائی نہ دیا۔ اس لئے بمبئی کے مسلمانوں نے فیصلہ کیا کہ وہ اول الذکر دونوں امیدواروں کو میدان سے ہٹا لیں اور کسی تیسرے کو میدان میں لے آئیں۔ جس کی اجابت رائے ، معاملہ نبی ، قابلیت اور سیاست دانی کا دونوں لو ہامانتے ہوں۔ قرعہ فال جناح کے نام پڑا۔ دونوں حریف اس نام پر متفق ہو گئے۔

مسز سروجنی نائیڈو نے مسٹر جناح کو ہندو مسلم اتحاد کے سفیر کا خطاب دیا ہے ، وہ اپنے اندر پوری خصوصیت رکھتا ہے۔ قائد اعظم نے سیاسی میدان میں قدم رکھا، کانگریس کے پلیٹ فارم پر اپنے خدمات ملکی کا افتاح کیا۔ مسلم لیگ کی رکنیت قبول کی اور محسوس کر لیا کہ یہ ملک اس وقت تک آزاد نہیں ہو گا جب تک ہندوؤں اور مسلمانوں میں خوشدلانہ اور مخلصانہ تعاون اور مفاہمت نہ ہو ۔ جب تک ان دونوں بڑی اقوام میں علیحدگی رہے گی، اس وقت تک غلامی کی زنجیریں بھی مضبوط سے مضبوط تر ہوتی چلی جائیں گی۔ چنانچہ آغاز کار سے قائد اعظم کی یہ کوشش رہی کہ ہندوؤں اور مسلمانوں میں اتحاد پیدا ہوجائے ۔

جنگ عظیم کا آغاز 1914ء میں ہوا، اس وقت پھر قائداعظم نے محسوس کیا کہ آزادی حاصل کر نے کا یہ بہتر موقع ہے۔ اگر اس وقت ہندو اورمسلمان و ہندوستانیوں کی حق دار نا پڑے گی ۔اس پر کان دھر نا پڑے گا اوران کا متحد ومتفقہ مطالبہ ماننا پڑے گا۔ اس مقصد کے پیش سبب جب کانگریس کا اجلاس ہورہا تھا۔

قائداعظم نے کوشش کی کہ مسلم لیگ کا اجلاس بھی یہیں منعقد ہو، تا کہ ان دونوں بڑی جماعتوں کے لیڈ رآ پس میں بیٹھ کر ایک راستہ تلاش کر لیں ۔ جوسب کے لئے قابل قبول ہو، کانگریس کے خلاف مسلمانوں کے دل میں بنی تھی ، وہ کانگریس کی روش سے بیزار تھے، وہ کانگریس سے بوجہ مخصوص ومعلوم دور رہنا چاہتے تھے، ان کی اس روش کے باوجود انہیں کانگریس کی طرف مائل کرنے کی کوشش ان کے کانوں تک کانگریس کا پیام پہنچانے انہیں کانگریس سے صلاح و مفاہمت کر لینے کی دعوت دینا بڑا مشکل کام تھا ، لیکن اس کار دشوار کواس باہمت رہنما نے خوبی اور خوش اسلوبی کے ساتھ انجام دیا۔ اپنے بہت سے مسلمان دوستوں اور ساتھیوں کو ناراض کر کے آپ نے بیہم سر کی لیکن نتیجہ کیا ہوا؟ کیا مفاہمت ہوئی ؟ جواب نفی میں ہے، اور اس المیہ کی ذمہ داری بھی مسلمانوں پر عائدنہیں تمام تر ہندو رہنماؤں پر ہے، جنہوں نے وقت کی پکار سنے سے انکار کر دیا، جنہوں نے معاملہ کی اہمیت نہ تھی ، جنہوں نے ایک بہترین موقع اپنی کوتاہ فکر سے ضائع کر دیا۔

ہمارے قائد اعظم کو خدائے عظیم نے قائدانہ صلاحیتیں، رہنما کی صفات، بلا کی ذہانت حد درجہ محنتی، ایماندار، ب اصول ٹھوس اور غیر جذباتی انداز کا حامل بنایا تھا۔ آپ چاہتے تھے کہ آپ کی قوم، آپ کے غیور شہری، قابل فخر پاکستانی، باہمت اصول پرست مسلمان آپ کی زندگی ، شخصیت، افکار، فراخ خود اعتمادی کا نمونہ ہے۔

۱۴ اگست ۱۹۴۷ کے دن ایک سبز ہلالی پرچم دنیا کے نقشے پر اُبھرا، ایک ایسی مملکت جس کے حصول کے لیے لاکھوں لوگوں نے جانیں قربان کی لیکن آزادی پر کوئی سمجھوتہ نہیں کیا۔ قائد کی انتھک محنت، کاوش اور قربانیوں کا زندہ پیکر، اے سوہنی دھرتی تیری آزاد اور پاک فضائیں ہی تو بھاتی ہیں تیرے متوالوں کو، تیرے بیٹے سرحدوں پار اور سرحدوں کے اندر بھی دہشت گردوں اور تیرے دشمنوں کے سامنے سینہ سپر ہیں۔ تیرے گلستان، پربت، جھیل، دریا تیرے حسن و پاکیزگی کے عکاس ہیں۔ اس آزادی کو محسوس کرو ان پاک فضاؤں میں، اس مٹی کی سوندھی مہک میں رب کا شکر ادا کرو۔ اس بیش قیمت نعمت کے لئے، اے عزیزِ من سب پاکستانیوں کا عزم ہے تیری سلامتی اور تیری ترقی، آزادی کا جشن برپا ہے۔ اس وطن کی گلیوں، محلوں میں، آزادی کی خوشی عیاں ہے ان سبز پوشاکوں ان چمکتے چہروں سے۔شاعر نے محب الوطنی میں بہت خوب لکھا؀

عالی وقار! ہم کسی بیرونی مُلک میں قیام پذیر ہوں، تو ہمیں پاکستانی جانا جاتا ہے۔ سندھی یا بلوچی، سرحدی یا پنجابی نہیں۔ ہمارے کارہائے نمایاں کسی پشتو یا پنجابی بولنے والے کی میراث نہیں ہیں، بلکہ اردو بولنے والے پاکستانیوں کی شناخت ہیں۔ ہماری سرگرمیاں کسی کشمیری اور آرائیں جیسی برادری کے لیبل کی مرہونِ منت نہیں ، بلکہ ہماری خدمات جلیلہ پاکستان کی وجہ سے نمایاں ہیں۔ ہمارا نام، انعام اور مقام صرف پاکستان ہے۔ ہمیں پاک سرزمین کی محبت میں رقصاں ہونا چاہئے۔ ہمیں اپنے دیس، اپنی ماں کو ادب و پیار دینا چاہئے کہ وطن کے درو دیوار کی چادر عصمت کی طرح مقدس ہیں۔ اس کا نظریہ ماں باپ کے عقیدے اور ایمان کی صورت جگمگاتا ہے۔

جناب صدر! کسی سیانے کا قول ہے کہ محبّت قربانی مانگتی ہے، عشق صلے سے بے پرواہ ہوتا ہے، اور پیار دینے اور دیے جانے کا نام ہے۔ اور اگر اس پہلو سے پرکھا جائے تو سب سے پہلے جو سوال پیدا ہوتا ہے وہ یہ ہے کہ ہم اس ملک کو کیا دے رہے ہیں؟ اجتماعی سطح پر یہ سوال اٹھانے سے پہلے آئیے ذرا انفرادی طور پر خود سے یہ سوال پوچھیں۔

ملک بھر میں صفائی، گندگی، اور بلدیاتی اداروں کی نااہلیوں پر تبصرہ کرتے ہم خود بھی ایسے ہی لوگوں میں شامل ہیں جو گاڑی میں سفر کرتے ہوئے کھڑکی کھول کر ریپر اور تھیلیاں باہر سڑک پر پھینک دیتے ہیں۔ ٹریفک جام میں پھنسنے پر ٹریفک پولیس کو برا بھلا کہتے کہتے ہم خود بھی کئی گاڑیوں کا راستہ روکتے خود پہلے نکل جانے کا راستہ تلاش کرتے ہیں۔ رشوت کو برا کہتے اور رشوت لینے والے افسروں اور اداروں پر لعنت ملامت کرتے ہم خود بھی ڈرائیونگ لائسنس، پاسپورٹ یا دیگر کاغذات بنوانے، یہاں تک کہ ٹریفک سگنل کی خلاف ورزی پر (جو کہ سراسر ہماری غلطی ہوتی ہے) چالان کروانے کے بجائے رشوت دینے پر آمادہ ہو جاتے ہیں۔

Myanmar: Middle class ‘disappearing’ amid uptick in brutal fighting

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has warned that poverty is surging and the middle class in Myanmar is “disappearing” amidst worsening insecurity and conflict.  

In a new report published on Thursday UNDP said that the middle class has shrunk by half, compared with before the 2021 military coup, and that three quarters of the country’s population is either living in poverty or “perilously close” to the national poverty line.

“The new data show that less than 25 per cent of the population in Myanmar manage to secure steady incomes to live above the poverty line. Without immediate interventions to provide cash transfers, food security and access to basic services, vulnerability will keep growing, and impacts will be felt across generations” said Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator.

According to UNDP estimates, $4 billion per year is required to address ballooning poverty, via cash transfers and other means, to help families recover from the “L-shaped” recession amid plummeting economic activity and few signs of recovery.

“We call on all stakeholders – inside and outside Myanmar – to take action and preserve vulnerable households from slipping into irreversible poverty and despair” Mr. Steiner urged.

Zero spending on education

Polling over 12,000 households across Myanmar, the report also found that families and households have been forced to resort to various, often unsustainable, coping mechanisms.

Speaking to journalists at UN Headquarters in New York, Kanni Wignaraja, UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, explained the dire situation.

“During the COVID-19 [pandemic], the spending on education was meagre - two to three per cent of household’s income - it is now close to zero,” she said, adding that families are pulling children out of school and unable to spend on healthcare and other basic services.

“We are going to see a whole generation that just has a learning and health deficit that is very scary,” she warned.

Regional picture

The report has also revealed an alarming picture at the provincial level.

The states with the lowest rates of per capita income are Kayah, Chin, and Sagaing – regions experiencing high levels of conflict between the junta forces and groups opposing.

In addition to heightened poverty levels, conflict-ridden were also marked by destruction of homes, restricted access to farmlands and an increase in internally displaced people (IDPs) – all leading to yet more hardship.

IDPs arriving in urban centres such as Yangon and Mandalay, both for safety and basic services, no longer have any safety net, Ms. Wignaraja said.

Proliferation of organized crime

The UNDP Regional Director also emphasized the challenges posed by skyrocketing criminality in the southeast Asian nation.

She cited recent findings by the UN Office on Drugs and Crimes ( UNODC ) that Myanmar is the largest producer of opium and the massive proliferation of organized crime, especially the so called “scam centres”.

“If these illegal economic activities – where there is a lot of money involved – are not curbed, and we cannot restart intensive international and regional mediation efforts to stop the ongoing war, the story of Myanmar is going to be of the disappeared middle [class],” Ms. Wignaraja said.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Raj Thackeray’s contradictory Gudi Padwa speech leaves cadre upset, voters confused

Two key contradictions in the political stance and an unanswered question have thrown Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) into a tizzy! The contradictions include seldom contesting elections officially and disputing their own stand of asking not to give votes to anyone that splits other parties, while simultaneously seeking support from the BJP. The unanswered question pertains to how votes will translate by switching the party from one extreme to the other.

A 360-degree turn in Thackeray’s political stance during his Gudi Padwa speech at Shivaji Park on Tuesday has left his party cadre upset and the voter base hurt and confused, seeking answers. They state that the last hope for Marathi “asmita” (pride) and Maharashtra has finally fallen.

Thackeray, in his speech, announced “unconditional support” to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state’s Mahayuti alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He stated that the MNS will not contest Lok Sabha polls but did not rule out contesting Assembly elections slated to be held later this year, urging his party members to start working towards it.

Within hours of Thackeray’s speech, MNS general secretary Kirtikumar Shinde tendered his resignation on Wednesday morning, opposing Thackeray’s decision to support the BJP. He stated that “BhaMoSha” (BJP-Modi and Shah) had “ruined” the country.

Whenever MNS used to lose any seat in polls, Thackeray used to give examples of the BJP in the 80s, showcasing their resilience. Even yesterday, he contradicted himself in his speech by asking his party members and voters not to endorse the kind of politics prevalent in Maharashtra and then sought support for Narendra Modi and the BJP, which has been leading splits in state parties.

“It was like giving a war cry to his army and then, when they assemble, telling them that we are not fighting and backing out. His entire speech was like a criminal trying to defend himself in court. It was unexpected and unnecessary for him to criticise the media that had made him a hero. Regarding his political stance, he was not even defending himself properly, but just making an unconvincing attempt. He has shattered the hopes of many,” political analyst Prakash Akolkar said.

Political commentator and Lokmat’s Senior Assistant Editor Sandeep Pradhan felt that Raj Thackeray’s support to the BJP was a strategic move to weaken Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. “One thing is clear: his party could not align with the alliance where Uddhav’s Sena has been. He had to join the other one. He has given a clear call to his party cadre that they should support the BJP and not Shinde Sena. Given his background, Thackeray’s allegiance has always been with the BJP, and the only way to weaken Shinde’s influence eventually was to have a Thackeray onboard the existing alliance, and this is exactly what he has done,” Pradhan said.

“Raj Thackeray seems confused every five years, always confusing his voter base and cadre. Just when you think Raj Thackeray is doing right, he takes a U-turn. This move was expected after his visit to Delhi, but then why exert so much effort and hold rallies about Marathi pride and businesses going away to Gujarat?” a commentator said.

“It seems your stand has been taken as a politician. Nothing happened in Maharashtra’s interest today. Why is there no mention of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial? He started politics in support of the Marathi people 18 years ago and ended up supporting Modi. Quite a fall,” another commentator said.

MNS leader resigns

“Five years ago, Rajsaheb Thackeray vehemently opposed BJP-Modi-Shah during the frenzy of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It was a very important time for me (politically). During those days, I attended all the public ‘Lav Re To Video’ meetings held by him and wrote detailed articles about the facts and thoughts he presented against BJP-Modi-Shah in the meetings. I sincerely tried to make his stance known to more and more people,” party general secretary and leader Kirtikumar Shinde said.

“Today, at a very crucial moment in the history and democracy of the country, Rajsaheb has changed his political role. How much of it is wrong, how much of it is right, political analysts will tell. Well, nowadays, leaders can take any political stand. But what about all those like us who believed in him? It is our defeat. What about that?” Shine added.

“In the last 10 years, especially in the last 5 years, ‘BhaMoSha’ has ruined the country. There has been no transparency, only threats of ED, CBI, and Income Tax investigations. Rajsaheb Thackeray taking the side of ‘BhaMoSha’ may be a political necessity for the party’s existence, but it is unlikely that there will be any benefit for Maharashtra’s Marathi people. His stance may be right in power politics, for the survival of MNS and himself, but the side he has taken is correct,” Shinde said.

“Why has MNS become Maharashtra Namonirman Sena? Why is Raj Thackeray supporting and welcoming Modi? Which of his files have been opened, and why has he surrendered like this? He should answer the people,” Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said.

BJP has scored a self-goal

Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi  president Prakash Ambedkar said BJP had scored a self-goal by seeking Raj Thackeray’s support, as people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and south India would not approve. “They (MNS and undivided Shiv Sena) staged protests against south Indians and north Indians. They were attacked, and beaten. How do you expect them to forget it? These people will not vote for the BJP,” he said.

Ambedkar said he was waiting for the equations in Mumbai to change (in the wake of MNS support). “It was because of it that I did not announce candidates for Mumbai’s constituencies. I will declare them by Thursday,” he said.
